This week looks like it could be one of the most one-sided captain debates in recent Fantasy Premier League memory.

Chelsea and Liverpool’s Stamford Bridge showdown on Saturday has cancelled out usual suspects Mohamed Salah and Eden Hazard, leaving just Sergio Aguero as an obvious candidate.

We’ve gone over our captain poll as well as data from the last four Gameweeks concerning individual players, team attacking numbers and opposition defensive statistics to find out the best option.

Captain Poll

Sergio Aguero (£11.4m) is set for the biggest margin of victory of any captain poll we have conducted so far this season in Gameweek 7.

The Manchester City man, set for a home fixture against Brighton, has 62% of the vote at the time of writing.

That’s not surprising considering that Aguero has averaged 11 points per home game in 2018/19, while the Seagulls have conceded five goals in their first three away matches.

The meeting between Chelsea and Liverpool has practically eliminated both usual suspects Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) and Eden Hazard (£11.0m).

They currently have 2.02% and 1.75% in the captain poll as a result of Saturday evening’s show-stopper event.

It is for this reason that Aguero is so far ahead in the vote.

Harry Kane (£12.4m) has come up in second place with 9%, which is still 53% lower than the Man City man.

Kane and his Tottenham colleagues do face a particularly appealing fixture in Gameweek 7 as they travel to face Huddersfield Town. The Terriers are one of just two sides yet to score a goal at home this season and they are yet to find the net from open play too. At the other end of the pitch they have been breached 14 times in six matches. Total domination is expected for Spurs, with Kane as the offensive focal point.

Ahead of the visit of a very leaky Fulham defence, Richarlison (£6.6m) looks set for a third-place finish in our poll. Before picking up a three-match ban in Gameweek 3, the Everton man had three goals to his name in the first two Gameweeks and appears to be a central attacking figure for the Toffees this season. He had more shots than any of his colleagues in the defeat at Arsenal so feels the most likely to take advantage of Fulham’s defensive vulnerabilities.

It is currently a close battle between Alexandre Lacazette (£9.5m) and Aleksandar Mitrovic (£7.0m) for fourth place, with 2.69% and 2.56% shares of the vote respectively.

Frenchman Lacazette has averaged 5.17 points per game so far this season and is preparing to host a Watford side with just one clean sheet in 2018/19.

Meanwhile, no player in the league has more goals than Mitrovic right now and Aguero is the only man to have fired off more shots than him in the opening six Gameweeks. Crucially, he’ll be facing an Everton outfit yet to keep a clean sheet this season.

The Gameweek 7 poll also showed early indications of Lacazette’s popularity compared to his esteemed colleague Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.8m). The Gabonese forward still remains in more Fantasy squads than Lacazette (11.2% ownership to 5.6%) but the latter has done marginally better in this week’s vote. While Lacazette has that 2.69% share, Aubameyang is below him on 2.07%.

Despite strong underlying numbers and a promising fixture in Gameweek 7, Romelu Lukaku (£11.1m) currently sits below both Salah and Hazard on 1.68% of the vote.

People ditched Richarlison for poor alternatives and have been regretting it. They thought they had learned a lesson and kept Mendy. Now they regret that. And the fact that they actually learned nothing?!?

Why would you bench one of the most expensive defenders in the game, without knowing when he is coming back? This game is about points, you can almost get whoever you want for Mendy, but still you would hold just to save a transfer? I wont at least.

      1. Licious Lizard
        • 13 Years
        7 years, 3 months ago

Take me for example. I’m still an owner and I will probably keep him for another week.
I have a good defence even without Mendy and I think I can get more points out of doing Wally -> Rich than someone like Trip. No obvious Mendy replacements for me and I would rather use FTs for fixing other issues.
Not saying it turned out to be the right call, but I still wouldn’t say it’s completely senseless

thing is the bench alternatives are pretty good , being your 4th and 5th defender . weird year but AWB and bennett make it easier to hold mendy and put your transfer focus elsewhere

It's different. Very few people held onto Richarlison for the two games he was out.

It's been 3 weeks since Mendy's last start and we're no closer to finding out when he's back.

How many points you're expecting from Trippier in next 3? Compared to say Wolves def & AWB rotation.

Maybe not too many good replacements this week, unless you go Laporte, or Doherty to free up funds. Personally I think I will free up funds to get someone like Sterling or Hazard for this gameweek.

See, downgrading makes sense to enable another move. But going for Trippier and buying Mendy back is not worth it even with the price swings unless your bench is crap

        Schmeical
        TAA Alonso AWB
        Lucas, Haz, Salah, Fraser
        Zaha, Jimenez, Aguero

Speroni, Kabasele, H Odoi, Mendy... 0.7 ITB 2 FT.

Obvious in Mendy and Lucas but Mendy will be fit in 1 or 2 weeks i reckon. Could get rid and get back in? Lucas i want to give one or 2 more fixtures. So i guess i could upgrade Odoi but hes my 15th player so idk if its worth.

If you are set on keeping Lucas and Mendy, I would use 1 FT on upgrading H-O, getting rid of Schmeichel.

Yup. Who takes your fancy? Tbh other few defenders aint too bad so could go cheap e.g. Doherty for rotation with AWB and bank money?

Doherty is a good shout. I'd go him. With Champions League going, we are going to see more rotation in near future. Nailed, cheaper defenders from teams like Wolves/Newcastle/Burnley will come into play.

Of course there is a risk.
People that say he will definitely be rested are biased.
People that say he will definitely play are biased too.

With Aurier out for this week and no erik for free kicks he'll play hud and barc for sure. I don't think even poch has considered the Cardiff game yet.

I expect Walker Peters to start vs Cardiff unfortunately

I think he'll play all games. I think worst case scenario is that Aurier isn't fit for Barcelona, but fit to play against Cardiff. I don't think Walker-Peters will be given a shot against Cardiff, but you never know. Trippier can handle playing 3 games for one week right before an international break.

No City def is a problem?
Would you play both Robo Alonso this week?

    Patricio/Hamer
    Alonso/Robo/Trippier/Bennett/WB
    Hazard/Richa/Maddison/Fraser/Hojberg
    Kun/Kane/Mitro

Funds ITB to do Kane Hojberg to Salah 4.5 before GW9.

50k out of around 5 mil active teams is not much. And the numbers are way way less in top 500k for example

Just thinking about all the rest/rotation surrounding other plays and not seen one person even question his game time. Fair enough he’s their main man but the CL is most important and the other two games are easy on paper so wouldn’t be surprised if he looses some minutes in the two games either side

    David Silva.

    Starts and plays 60-65.
Benched and gets run in 20 minutes
    Completely rested like last time
Starts and plays close to 90min.

    What's most likely?

    Please share opinions.

    Mendy replacement as everyone else.

I have come down to 5 names:

1-5 rating from best to worse

    Trippier:
    Fixtures- 1 (Based on seasonticker)
    Form- 4
    Price- 5
    Rotationrisk- 5
    RMT points- 1

    Total points: 16

    Doherty:
    Fixtures- 2
    Form- 1
    Price- 1
    Rotationrisk- 1
    RMT points- 4

    Total points: 9

    Monreal:
    Fixtures- 4
    Form- 3
    Price- 3
    Rotationrisk-2
    RMT points-3

    Total points: 15

    Laporte:
    Fixtures- 5
    Form- 2
    Price- 4
    Rotationrisk- 3
    RMT points- 2

    Total points: 16

    Shaw
    Fixtures- 3
    Form- 4
    Price- 2
    Rotationrisk- 4
    RMT points- 5

    Total points: 18

    Best options:
    1. Doherty (9p)
    2. Monreal (15p)
    3. Trippier & Laporte (16p)
    4. Shaw (18p)

Obviously not any blueprint, but interesting. Did not pick Bellerin because I think he is more rotation risk than Monreal. I can see me picking Doherty as a longterm pick. Unfortunately this week I got Ings playing against his side. Not sure if that makes me lean more towards another option and then get Doherty one of the gmw's after that.

    Thoughts?

Trippier is by far best player and fpl option from those. Only concern is his gametime.

Not when you have 3 playing subs.
I do think Doherty is a good option though.
You may want to post this on the latest article after the work you've put in 🙂

Obviously, but I'll take his 11 pointers with risk of being benched once in every 3-4 games. Good thing is he is either palying or not, minimal chance of getting a cameo and with active bench he's worth it for me.
