Our Differentials have a distinctly retro feel this week. All three are on the wrong side of thirty but with the added motivation of a new contract to play for or a new manager to impress, each is currently going through a purple patch of form that’s brought them to the attention of the Scout Selection Committee..

We’re going through a bit of a revival of our own recently and, after last week’s Differentials almost outscored my entire FPL team, we’re hoping for another bumper return from this week’s picks.

Tomas Rosicky

Arsenal’s Renaissance man Tomas Rosicky epitomises the recent upturn in his club’s fortunes; after spending 20 months out with a tendon problem, it was feared that Rosicky would never return to the same level of old but the Czech schemer has been back to his glorious best in recent games. Despite managing just 15 starts all season, he has begun the last seven in a row and played a pivotal role in victories over Spurs, Liverpool and Milan. With another crucial game against Newcastle up next, Arsene Wenger will be looking to the 31 year old to produce another strong performance to ensure the Gunners’ momentum remains unchecked.

With Arsenal seemingly scoring at will at the moment, choosing another attacking option in addition to their imperial front man looks like a smart ploy. This week’s Scout Pick Theo Walcott is probably the best option available but priced at 8.9, the fleet footed winger will be beyond the budget of most Fantasy managers. The other main contender, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, offers plenty of potential but has the likes of Gervinho and Yossi Benayoun as rivals for the left flank role. Rosicky’s place looks a lot more secure, on the other hand and, with two goals in his last three games, still offers a decent attacking threat for the budget price of just 5.7.

Bobby Zamora

QPR are starting to look a much improved side of late there are plenty of decent differential options in their ranks; Adel Taraabt tops the ICT index for midfielders in recent weeks, Akos Buszaky looked a constant threat against Everton last time out and Djibril Cisse also returns from suspension this weekend. Despite the strong alternatives, we’ve opted for new January signing Bobby Zamora, after another excellent performance last weekend saw the ex-Fulham star score and pick up the maximum bonus to add to his already impressive record in recent weeks.

Last week’s haul takes his recent tally to 4 goals, 3 assists and 8 bonus points in his last seven games for an average of 6.7 points per game – to add a little perspective, that’s more than Emmanuel Adebayor, Wayne Rooney and Sergio Aguero have managed over the same period, making a mockery of his 6.7 valuation in the FPL game. Granted, 17 of those points came against Newcastle while playing for Fulham, but QPR look more than capable of finding the net and his move across London hasn’t slowed him down. Zamora’s strong hold up play is the perfect foil for a side bursting with pace and creativity in Cisse, Shaun Wright Philips and Taraabt, and he looks good to provide a steady stream of goals and assists over the coming weeks, despite the relatively difficult fixtures coming up.

Carlos Cuellar

With Vincent Kompany expected to miss Man City’s next couple of games, the masses will no doubt be looking at Liverpool’s double gameweek when considering a possible replacement. Before diving in, however, it would be well worth checking out Aston Villa’s defensive options. With Richard Dunne out of action for at least another month, Carlos Cuellar looks set for a continued run of starts at centre half alongside James Collins and, while both defenders have picked up bonus points in their last two games, the Spaniard has scooped the maximum in both matches as well as an assist, and looks by far the better value of the two, at 4.9 in the FPL game.

From a defensive perspective, Villa’s next two fixtures look as good as they come; in stark contrast to their free scoring home form, Fulham have managed just eight goals on their travels all season, and Bolton have only found the net once in their last five. All the signs points to a profitable period for Villa defenders and with ownership of just 0.1%, Cuellar would be a great differential.

Good Evening/Morning (depending where you are) everyone,

With Gerrard a doubt, who is on peno's for Pool?

    Suarez? Adam ?

I had a bizarre dream last night. Liverpool beat Sunderland 6-0, Suarez got all 6 and 3 were penalties.

I think this site would go into meltdown if that happened.

As for your question, I think the order of pens at L'pool goes: Gerrard, Kuyt, Adam, Suarez, although they all seem incapable of taking them so who knows!

They're not that bad. Carroll would just toe punt it as hard as possible and then gallop around the field regardless of the outcome.

sorry for the repost but im pretty stuck,

is it worth going Kompany to Enrique for an 8 point hit (already done 3 transfers) or should i use my WC and get Suarez in for Ba aswell?

already have Skrtl as LVP defense, if i dont transfer Kompany it would mean playing Shawcross

I'm in the same spot as you. I've taken a 4 pt. hit already and have Kompany - Kelly - Evans - BAE - Simpson as my back line.

I think I'll bring in Enrique for the 8 pointer.

In your case, i would keep my WC until after DGW. Demba Ba vs NOR looks mighty juicy to me next week.

I have all of them on favorites so I can pull them up for you at any time. Secondly, that is exactly what this site is about. If good picks and predictions were a requirement, then scout picks wouldnt exist. Even I can out pick them week in and week out - Total FPL puts them to shame week in week out and you aare still here arent you?

They beat Milan 3-0, if rested, he wouldnt have missed that 2nd half chance and they would have probably progressed. Another Stupid move by Wenger.

Stupid decision by Wenger? What're you on about. RVP was the sharpest player on the pitch last Tuesday. He missed that chance because of poor shot selection, not fatigue. You're saying it's stupid of Wenger to rest him v Liverpool when it was a crucial match that RVP single handedly won.. bizarre.

Short term results dont dictate stupidity, but decisions in themselves decide stupidity. 4th place is pretty much locked down, and the anfield game wasnt what was going to decide it. RVP had a niggle going into that game and Arsenal had an important game coming up in the only competition that could possibly bring them silverware this year. By playing RVP 90 minutes both games off of a niggle that has historically put him out for months was stupid to say the least. Pool cant score more than 1 goal per game so they could have left him on bench and seen what was panning out. Lastly, if RVP gets injured this gameweek or next, you can bet it is because of Mr Wenger refusal to rest him when his body is clearly showing signs of imminent injury. This is mr glass we are speaking about. You can save this post as well so you can remember me when RVP gets injured and Arsenal go winless from there on out because of it. Just remember it all started at anfield.

A prediction that RVP will get injured at some point. Oh you're good 😉

The fact is that the Milan tie was all but over, nothing short of a miracle would've rescued it, and it nearly happened. To suggest RVP missed that chance because he wasn't rested against Pool is just plain idiotic.

Now, most practical people would assume that with the Milan tie being a tiny hope at best, that Arsenal would focus on the league and do everything they can to get 4th spot - you're talking over £20m and more likely to keep players like rvp at your club.
Well guess what, RVP played against Liverpool and he was the outstanding performer on the day. And guess what else, Arsenal are currently sitting in 4th. Yes, you're quite right, Wenger's a fool, what a silly decision on his part 😉

Getting 4th is theirs as long as RVP stays healthy. Its not because they are a good team so much as because Chelsea and Liverpool are shit. As far as Champions League was concerned, that was their only chance at keeping RVP or bringing in new players, was to advance beyond the round of 16. No experienced big name player wants to come to Arsenal, its a developmental stop. No proven talent wants to go there because they will not win a European championship there. Wenger is a fool. He will lose his only established star left and keep developing talents for Europes real clubs. Everyone is so obsessed with the "we need to win this game mentality" and then they will go on to lose points to a team like Blackburn.

oh, is that what you are looking for? Wenger rests RVP earlier in the season against stoke when he was showing no srigns of wear. Surely a must win at home, cant afford to lose it, yet he is rested and needs to come in to win the game, which they barely do. Now that he IS showing signs of wear, he decides to play him 90 minutes within a 3 day period after being pulled out of int'l game, and so risking him for the final stretch of the season. I dont understand that, why is liverpool a more important game than blackburn, fullham, wolves , swansea. You give away points to so many shit teams and then act like its life or death to play liverpool that you are willing to risk your only goalscorer for the remainder of the season to get that result. It wasnt, it was still a winnable game - and if not, he could still come off of the bench like he did against stoke. Crazy managing to me. 4th place isnt dictated by the points that you have lost to other 4th place contenders, but by the points that you have given up to purely shit teams.

And its a history sort of a thing. Last time around, my rival gained a 65 point lead in the DGW. I couldn't do my transfers since i missed the deadline by 5 minutes due to a poor internet connection. Have been trying to recover from that hit since. All boils to another DGW. His captain, then was BAE. GJ to pull it back for me?

    Hello community,

I used up my free transfer on Sessegnon, replacing him with Adam for the double gameweek instead. Aside that, I've also taken a 4 point hit, selling Aguero and bought Pogrebnyak to prepare for gameweek 29 in which I will be facing the toughest opponent ever in my league.

However, I just learnt Kompany will be out for about a fortnight so basically I... I don't know, contemplating taking another 4 point hit? My starting lineup is...

    Mignolet
    Evans | R. Taylor | King
    Dempsey | McClean | Adam | Bale
    Ba | V. Persie | Pogrebnyak

On the bench, I have Vorm, Valencia (injured), Kelly (injured) and Kompany (injured). Which means, if any of my starting lineup doesn't start, it's a good game for me. What do you think? Should I take out Kompany and buy either Lescott or Skrtel instead? I mean, I've already taken a 4 point hit, and taking another one means it's -8 points.

    What do you think?

Yeah, I've got three injuries on the bench. I lose points if any of my lineup doesn't start tonight. Valencia has a better hope of returning more than Kelly or Kompany. I guess, I'll prioritise him first while Kompany second.

      Look at it this way, if you take another 4pt hit make sure it meets the following criteria;

      1. It is for a player in DGW (You should break even at worst)
      2. It is for a player whom you plan to keep until the end of the season. (as there are only 10 weeks left)

You have 5.1M in the bank, I would go Raylor>Enrique.

Thanks for the feedback and suggestions, guys. After taking everything into consideration, I decide not to risk the point hit as it's not worthwhile. I'll gamble on my lineup and just HOPE that no one gets injured, carded or benched.

Yes, I think the fact that Siggy gets points from set pieces means he has a chance against anyone. I can see that Villa - Fulham could be a Fulham cleanie, but Fulham don't travel at all well, so not risking it. But Senderos was definitely a reason why I didn't bother replacing Sess this week, as he's a reasonable 1st sub.

Btw Just wanted to say that I thought you and Jafa on Suarez was just a bit of banter and I enjoyed it. It didn't come across particularly OTT, so I wouldn't worry. I'm on the fence on Suarez's chances for this week, so enjoyed swinging this way and that with the banter.

Heh, I was goofing off for sure. I'd like to think he was too. Although, I'm just not sure anymore. We never talk on here unless were arguing. I miss the good old days.

Still, I went way overboard this week. I need to chill. Appreciate your words, though.

Kompany owners, what are you doing?

I don't want to do the switch around with Glen J or Enrique (already have Skrtel) but figured it may be worth it if I kept the replacer long term. 4 point hit to replace Kompany with Glen Johnson and keep him for the run in, otherwise I'd have to play Simson this week and pray for Kompany return. Sound right?

I don't feel good about this week. The last dgw was a nightmare (I got 5 players in) and it killed my season. This time, apart from the 2 Liverpool defs that I was always planning on getting for the run-in anyway, I've ignored it. Many of my team have bad fixtures. And I have a horrible feeling Suarez may just do something - though not convinced enough to get him in (and I have to say that the racism stuff puts me off him too).

Last season I loved double gws, and did really well from them. This season they make me nervous.

Sorry, that wasn't much of a post really.

This shit about Luis being racist is downright insane imo, even the FA admitted he was NOT a racist.

To what? The FA's report? Or Johnson's interview? Either way, no thanks. Have read both and quite frankly tired of the topic. Quite the easy distraction for a truly underwhelming Liverpool side that has escaped the amount of criticism leveled at say, AVB and Chelsea.

And no matter what a neutral, objective observer may think of the situation, it still will do nothing to sway the uncritical supporters of your club.

hehe, its sounds like if you think that the FA decision proves he is not racist!

i think you are mistaking the FA for a court of low there mate.

all they say is that "We, the FA, will not judge whether or not he is racist, only that the way he acted playing in our association deserves a lengthy ban".

That isn't of course the same as saying definitively that he is not a racist. Anyway, what's the definition of " a racist"? What matters is that it was an incident for which he should immediately have apologised unreservedly.

I don't actually believe he is a racist, either. He committed a racist act, but I don't believe he is a racist.

That said....since he DID commit a racist act, its perfectly acceptable for opposing fans to call him a racist.

Its like how anti-chelsea fans call Terry and Cole adulterous sex-addicts. They probably aren't, but those who dislike Chelsea certainly have every right to say it.

Agreed. Suarez is just as bad.

you are right that they are adulterous. But sex addicts? We cant say that for sure
Suarez made a racial remark. is he a racist? We can't say that for sure.

But I hate both clubs. So as far as I am concerned, Terry is sexual frankenstien and Suarez is a racist.
