Gameweek 11 Scout Picks – Man City and Liverpool attack backed

Sergio Aguero and Mohamed Salah are the big names in our latest Scout Picks selection.

We are expecting big things from the Manchester City and Liverpool attack in Gameweek 11 after revewing the latest Scout Squad pool.

After painful deliberation, we’ve picked out the best possible starting XI under £83m from Paul, Joe, Az and Peter’s choices. This week we line-up in the 3-5-2 formation.

Goalkeeper

Lukasz Fabianski (£4.5m) gets his hands on the goalkeeper slot this week as Burnley come to the London Stadium. He didn’t actually earn any top picks from our Scout Squad crew but was name-checked by all four. Jordan Pickford (£4.9m) was the pundits’ favourite but we’ve opted to save money with Fabianski and cover the Everton defence elsewhere. Burnley are the perfect opponent for West Ham this week, as they sit bottom of the league for shots, efforts in the box, goal attempts on target and big chances in the last four Gameweeks.

Defenders

Benjamin Mendy (£6.4m) was given strong backing by our Scout Squad crew this week. All but one of our pundits picked the Manchester City man as the top defender for Gameweek 11, Paul the only one to look elsewhere. That’s not surprising when he has a home match against Southampton coming up. The Saints have not scored for five matches in a row, while City have now accumulated eight consecutive clean sheets in all competitions. Throw Mendy’s creative abilities into the mix, with his six assists thus far, and you’ve got yourself a near-essential premium defender.

Marcos Alonso (£7.0m) is seen as the optimum way of capitalising on a Chelsea defence set to host Crystal Palace in Gameweek 11. He was Paul’s top pick while Joe, Az and Peter all selected him in second-place. Opponents Crystal Palace have been particularly poor in front of goal, just three sides registering fewer shots on target in the last four Gameweeks, so Alonso’s clean sheet potential is high. He also added a sixth assist of the campaign against Burnley to remind us that he is still capable of attacking returns.

Lucas Digne (£4.8m) is our cover for the Everton defence after he was name-checked by Joe, Az and Peter. The Toffees host a Brighton defence that has scored just three goals on their travels this season, only Cardiff have found the net fewer times away from home so far. Meanwhile, Digne has some involvement in set pieces and has proved to have great attacking potential in his advanced wing-back position.

Midfielders

Fresh from a 15-point haul against Cardiff, Mohamed Salah (£13.0m) goes straight back into the Scout Picks for a Gameweek 11 trip to Arsenal. The Gunners have actually been incredibly vulnerable recently, with only Burnley allow more big chances than them in the last four Gameweeks. In two Premier League games against the Gunners so far in his career, Salah has three goals and an assist.

Including Gylfi Sigurdsson (£7.4m) in the Scout Picks was a very easy decision this week. The Everton man is top of the league for shots on goal in the last four Gameweeks and is behind just Paul Pogba when it comes to accurate efforts in that time frame. Coupled with Sigurdsson’s awesome goal threat and penalty taking duties is his chance creation potential, only David Silva playing more key passes than David Silva since Gameweek 7. Furthermore, next opponents Brighton rank 19th in that time for goal attempts conceded in the penalty area, only Burnley allowing more.

Willian (£7.4m) stands in for Eden Hazard (£11.3m) for the second week running after some interesting quotes from Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri. He believes that Hazard may play a part against Crystal Palace on Sunday but is uncertain whether he will start or be able to play 90 minutes. With Willian registering a goal and assist in his last two matches, 11 key passes and 10 shots we believe he can fill Hazard’s void in the Scout Picks once again.

Saturday afternoon will be an emotional occasion for Leicester City as they play their first match since the tragic passing of chairman Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha at Cardiff. Our pundits are backing the Foxes to respond in the best possible way with a positive result in south Wales. Our pundits actually threw more support behind Jamie Vardy (£9.0m), earning a name-drop from all four, but we had to opt for James Maddison (£7.0m) to save some money. The midfielder remains their chief creator having played 12 key passes in the last four Gameweeks, only two FPL players have registered more in that time.

Roberto Pereyra (£6.1m) is back in form with two goals in as many matches since the international break. Watford’s new 4-2-3-1 formation appears to be getting the best out of him and he’ll be hoping for a third successive goal at Newcastle this weekend. Only three sides have allowed more shots in the penalty box than the Magpies since Gameweek 7 so Pereyra and his Hornets colleagues are sure to have plenty of opportunities at St James’ Park.

Forwards

Another home match for Manchester City, another clean sweep of top picks from our pundits for Sergio Aguero (£11.3m). Paul, Joe, Az and Peter all believe that the Argentinian will be on the scoresheet for the defending champions against Southampton as he continues to top the charts for shots inside the penalty box during the last four Gameweeks. That’s all with limited game-time too. The Saints come to the Etihad Stadium in the bottom five for shots allowed in the penalty area since Gameweek 7 – a perfect match-up for captain poll leader Aguero.

Marko Arnautovic (£7.0m) completes the Scout Picks XI as our second striker. Paul, Joe and Az all chose the West Ham man as their number two options up front, and with good reason. Only Raheem Sterling has more touches in the penalty box in his last four appearances than Arnautovic. Meanwhile, Burnley remain the league’s most obliging defence, allowing more shots than any other side so far this season.

Substitutes

Fabian Balbuena (£4.4m) is our reserve defender this week after finally delivering on his offensive potential in the Gameweek 10 draw at Leicester. He has had more shots than all defenders apart from Matt Doherty in the last four Gameweeks and hosts that goal-shy Burnley outfit too.

Riyad Mahrez (£8.6m) has registered three double-figure hauls in his last five matches and has found the target with his shots more often than Aguero in that time. With another injury to Kevin de Bruyne, we think Mahrez will start again this week and will be involved in the inevitable Manchester City goals against Southampton.

Isaac Success (£4.5m) has become something of an FPL celebrity overnight now that he has emerged as the only starting forward in his price bracket. His underlying numbers don’t look too bad over his last two starts and we think there are offensive opportunities for Watford at Newcastle this weekend.

Community Champion

Representing the community against the Scout Picks in Gameweek 11 is Mince n Tatties. He has opted for a 5-3-2 formation of Kepa; Alonso, Rudiger, Mendy, Laporte, Walker; Salah, Mané, Maddison, Vardy, Arnautovic.

The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season.

The Scouts have won six and lost four so far, fclackless defeating us 77-44 in Gameweek 10.

That 33 point margin has established fclackless as the current leader, with Eden Wizard‘s 77-68 Gameweek 2 win the previous best score.

I don’t think anyone really cares enough about these games at 3pm other than to check their own players. Nothing exciting and no threatening captain choices playing.

Those playing now are simply extras and differentials in the team.
