Captains

Vote in the Gameweek 16 captain poll

As the manic turnaround between Gameweeks continues we are back to picking our next captain already.

Our latest poll is now live so you can vote on who you believe the best option for the armband is in Gameweek 16.

There are plenty of candidates this time around with very few that leap out to us.

Arsenal’s home meeting with Huddersfield Town is perhaps the most eye-catching with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.2m) expected to be the favourite there although Alexandre Lacazette (£9.6m) is also considered.

Liverpool’s assets will be heading to a Bournemouth defence that has deteriorated statistically of late, meaning there could be returns for Mohamed Salah (£13.0m), Roberto Firmino (£9.2m), Xherdan Shaqiri (£7.0m) or Sadio Mané (£9.8m) if he is passed fit.

Fresh from his 12-point haul in Gameweek 15, Harry Kane (£12.5m) may also be a popular figure. He travels to King Power Stadium, to face a Leicester side he has scored seven goals against in his last four meetings with them.

Fantasy managers burned by Pep Guardiola’s rotation policy midweek may be reticent to make any of their Manchester City options their captain this weekend.

Raheem Sterling (£11.5m) will probably be the most backed among his colleagues. A start against Chelsea feels very likely given that he was rested against Watford and has four goals and five assists in his last five appearances.

Leroy Sané (£9.4m) and David Silva (£8.7m) seem the most likely alternatives unless Sergio Aguero (£11.3m) is declared fit between now and the weekend.

However, it will also be interesting to see how much their opponents Chelsea will temper interest in the Manchester City options.

      Season keeper. Atleast for me.
His attacking returns are just absurd.

Well it also depends about the price you bought him.
Gonna be hard to get him back if he has raised alot in value.

Alonso in spite of the golden duck he scored last night -
-- same points as Auba, 1 less than Haz and 11 less than Sterling
-- Highest points among defenders, more than Salah, Mane, Richa, etc. and higher than Kane, Aguero, etc.
-- Fixtures improving after City game

      Definitely keeping him!

54 points in his first 7 games, 39 in last 8

Even with that, he is averaging almost 5 points per game in his last 8! If he can maintain that average till the end of season, he'll be 200+ points!!! And that too for a player starting at 6.5mn price. If that's not a steal, don't know what is!

Ah now that's the real deal. I too would love to have an Arsenal player this week but just not sure if Auba will start and if Laca is worth the risk. Ideally, would love to have Auba

Think he should go. He's playing badly, Chelsea look shaky defensively and now big hitters up top are performing.

People always say he's the best value player in the game - but you can't directly compare players across positions because a 4.5m defender is way better than a 4.5m midfielder. You can also rotate at the back. FPL prices defenders cheaply for a reason.

But but Alonso is a mid with cs points 😎

As for OP, keeping as have other issues. Fixtures improve after City so I dont see the rush to sell.

It's just strange that such FPL veterans don't understand this point. If Alonso was literally categorised as a midfielder and got 4 points for a clean sheet and 6 points for a goal I'd definitely have him in my team. But he's not, he's classed as a defender.

Oh, I was just making a joke for the most common argument for keeping, hence the smiley. He's a solid pick. Usually good/decent money for value over the season. He was .5 less than last season too, I think.

And I'm no veteran btw. 2nd season and still making sh*tload of stupid mistakes.

Yes I recognised you were making a joke, I wasn't referring specifically to you at all. I was just continuing on my rant. I interpreted you as agreeing with me, as I've also found the line 'Also is a mid with CS points' to be ridiculous and an oversimplification.

                Sorry for the misunderstanding!

Nice post. First of all, when was the last time he scored a fk? Secondly, he`s not even their primary fk taker. Thirdly, City have the 2nd amount of clean sheets this season. Fourthly, being strong at the back and conceding from free kicks are two vastly different things. Try again.

Thanks for the enlightening post Psycho! Perhaps you need to check who set pieces page of FFS to know who their direct FK taker is! Get your facts in line before blasting your mouth off. You should never try though! 😀

He`s taken about half the set piece attempts Chelsea have made this season. I have facts. You don`t. You made a blatant ignorant post containing multiple flaws, and now you`re attempting to brush it off with whatever that was.

                • 7 Years
                5 years, 3 months ago

Really? He's taken half of the FKs so how do you know he won't take the next one and can't score? Oracle?

                  • 11 Years
                  5 years, 3 months ago

Because first of all, he`s only taken half. That means even if they get a free kick, he`s only going to take one half of the time, based on averages from this season. Secondly, he`s scored 0 from 13 attempts. You don`t have to be an oracle to predict that anyone is unlikely to score from a FK, let alone someone with that kind of record. Also i would you to adress what you said about City beeing poor at the back, first of all. And secondly how "beeing poor at the back" has any carryover what so ever to actually conceding from a direct free kick?

                  1. KGFC
                    • 7 Years

My point is that City are not as tight at the back as in recent weeks. Facts for you: kept 1 cleanie in last 5 PL games. This means there is a good chance that they may concede again esp away to Chelsea. Alonso has the capability to score from open play and that is the point about city being poor at the back. The second part is where I'm just giving my opinion! Pls reread what is written before blasting off your itchy fingers!

Right. You like to talk about facts? Let`s talk some facts. City have conceded the fewest attempts in general, and the fewest attempts on target for the last 5 gameweeks. Two of the three goals conceded have come from penalties. Saying that they`re "bad at the back" or that "they have a good chance at conceding" is just a very long stretch, at best. You also seem unable to phathom my point about the lack of correlation between someone scoring from a free kick and a team beeing "bad at the back". Unless the entire City wall makes an error, or Ederson makes an error, there would be no correlation between Alonso beeing a good free kick taker, and your alledged point. I have read your post multiple times. Maybe you should reread mine and atleast try to put some logical thinking into my words before you choose to get offended.

This is FPL Psycho! Even if City haven't had fewest attempts or not it doesn't matter coz 1 goal from 1 shot is good enough to rob you off the points! You are just trying to "show off" your "facts"... seriously!! Grow up dude.. this a game we are talking about and how to maximize getting points. Its not about your stupid access to a paid database of facts!

Haha, my god you actually are an idiot. Ofcourse one shot can be enough to score a goal. Statistics about how many chances a team concede, actually predict the likelyhood of how many goals they will concede. It`s clear you don`t understand what statistics are and what they are used for. You wanted to throw "facts" at me. These weren`t facts, these were opinions. I countered with real facts, you then tell me to grow up. You haven`t said a single thing about maximizing points until now. This hasn`t even been a discussion about that. This has been a discussion where you have made some statements that are false, and i`ve given you the opportunity to persuade me, of which you have done a horrible job.

Amazing specimen you are! Full of yourself... can't see the forest for the trees... stats don't just predict the "likelyhood", they also tell history! Not sure you'd be able to comprehend that. Like I said this is FPL and its about getting points. So when I said city have conceded in 4/5 PL game, these are not facts!!! You should take your medi soon boy! And this is the tops: " given you the opportunity to persuade me"... you are nothing but prince of poop!!! And dont have to persuade you!

City have condeded in 4 out of 5 pl games isnt a fact? Then what is it? And you have the audacity to call me anything. You are just a mentally deprived human beeing. Yes, stats "tell" the history. And it is by knowing history that we are able to accurately predict the future. Is it not?

Now you're contradicting yourself?? I told you the FACT that city have conceded in last 4/5. And hence my first point that City are not "that" strong at the back... thats exactly my point... and then using this history only I said that I won't be surprise that Alonso can score a goal and that through a FK. But it doesnt mean that he isnt their FK taker OR that he cant score from open play OR that I said city will conceded through an Alonso FK goal!

Is it now simply enough for you to comprehend? You are starting to show signs of it so its a progress... keep going.. you'll reach there soon!

I`m going to assume that you either can`t read very well, or that you have poor short term memory. I`m going to help you out here. You said in one of your posts above: So when I said city have conceded in 4/5 PL game, these are not facts!!! I then asked, "if they aren`t facts, then what are they?". How am i contradicting myself? You are contradicting YOUR self. I never said he wasn`t their main free kick taker. I never said he couldn`t score. I just argued against your "opinion/fact" that City at poor at the back, and that even if they were poor at the back (which they clearly are not, stats back me up here), that would have nothing to do with whether or not Alonso scores on a FK or not. And btw, Alonso has scored two times on a FK since all of last season, up until now. Another real fact for you.

They are also ignoring the fact that City's defence has been exceptional against the big sides - only one goal conceded and that was a consolation penalty from Martial

His so called original point is flawed, and backed up by the statement that "City are weak at the back". And like i`ve said, anybody is an underdog to score a direct FK. Proven by his 0/13 record so far this season, and i can`t even be bothered to checking his stats for last season. He has wonderful ability to take free kicks, and he CAN score. That`s not what im arguing here.

I think you’re both bypassing the fact that KGFC made a totally valid point initially (that it would not be a surprise to see Alonso score a DFK) and leaning too heavily on statistics.

Statistically, Man City have been defensively fantastic.

They do however, have 1 clean sheet in their last 5 in the league, and conceded 2 to Lyon. They give away chances in every game, as does every team, and therefore it would not be a surprise to me to see Alonso score a DFK. Who knows whether he will or not.

My concerns with his post weren`t at all related to the possibility of his claim that Alonso MIGHT score a fk. He said it wouldn`t surprise him BECAUSE City are weak at the back - which they are clearly not and which i have proven by the use of statistics. I have also "proven" that Alonso in particular (and anybody else for that matter) is a statistical underdog to score on a direct free kick attempt. Both of those in conclusion means it`s unlikely he scores on a free kick against City. I fail to see any of your points.

Arnautovic and Barkley have to be moved on, but I'd probably go with Mitrovic and Felipe Anderson. Not sure I trust West Ham enough to double up on their attack, the fixtures are good though.

          Surely Trippier.

6.1 is a lot of money for a player who's delivered 13 points over the last 5 GW's. That's Laporte by the way.

Seem that the news are good. Mourinho says it was precautionary and not an injury.

I think there was a quote somewhere along the lines of Martial feeling like it was a "pre-injury", he was feeling tight.

Hahaha turns out the elusive "somewhere" is the top of the Scout Tweets.

I'd be a little worried, if he's complaining of tightness and feels an injury is around the corner surely he's prone to a few rests over the Christmas?

What would you rather have on WC:

        A) Laporte, Fanderson
        B) Alonso, Snodgrass

Currently on A) but have no CHE at all and wondering if Alonso could pay off long term?

Personally not keen on either of those defenders at the moment. Laporte is overpriced and Alonso isn't playing well at all. I'd consider going with a slightly cheaper option and reinvesting the money elsewhere.

Agree if those are selling for hits

Those switching out on WC may be justified if it allows a more balanced and Xmas-ready team imo

            Alonso, Snodgrass vs Laporte, FAnderson

Enabled me to get Sterling - see that as a significant upgrade

Kept Hazard who got me 5 points where Alonso got 0

City likely to score so another blank for Alonso

Can reassess on Hazard and Alonso thereafter but on the cards is:

            Hazard > Sane
            Robbo > Alonso

Last year I took out Alonso for Christensen after Christmas - they performed at pretty much the same level for over a month

Like this year, much of Alonso's haul points came early season

After his insane start to the season, other cheaper options like TAA and Doherty are keeping pace. Kind of depends how you reinvest the money.

Thing is them three will get you 200+points and you may(and will) easily captain any of them so that's even more points, Alonso's ceiling as with any premium defender is about 170pts and he's not a captain material, so there's that.

It means Martial felt a tightness in his muscles. This would have made him more likely to get injured later on in the game, so he was substituted off to protect him.

I wouldn't buy him, but if your bench is ok I wouldn't rush to sell him

You should be fine. Your English wasn't the issue by the way, preinjury isn't a word, it was just how Martial described the feeling he had.
