With six sides currently facing a blank Gameweek 34, our regular look at Frisking of the Fixtures is slightly affected this week. While there’s every chance those missing matches could be scheduled for the same Gameweek, at present we are leaving those teams to one side and focusing on the sides that presently have a definite fixture in place.

For the moment, we’re also omitting Bolton, due to the uncertainty over their upcoming schedule, in light of Fabrice Muamba’s current condition…

The Strong

Man United

The champions continue to rack at the goals at an eye-catching rate in their attempt to reclaim the title. Sunday’s 5-0 win at Wolves was the latest in a run of games that has seen them net two or more goals in all but one fixture since Gameweek 15. Antonio Valencia’s return looks timely, with the Ecuadorian once again proving a key performer in United’s offensive ploys- priced at 7.5, the transfers-in are already racking up.

Wayne Rooney may have drawn a rare blank but his form remains strong; seven goals in his last five appearances is likely to see plenty more Fantasy managers draft in the forward. Javier Hernandez served a reminder of his differential potential with a brace at Wolves, while Jonny Evans’ goal and clean sheet made a mockery of his 4.8 price tag. With (FUL,bla, QPR, wig, AVL) to follow in the next five, the fixture list continues to offer plenty potential for the red half of Manchester.

Arsenal

An obliging schedule is on the cards for Arsene Wenger’s side, with Robin Van Persie set to be locked in constant battle with Rooney for the Fantasy Premier League captain’s armband. Home games against Villa and Wigan offer the Gunners skipper strong opportunities to rack up the points and extend his lead as the top Fantasy points scorer, while trips to QPR and Wolves are equally enticing. Arsenal also play host to City and Chelsea in the next six but, given that they’ve just seen off Sunderland, Spurs, Liverpool and Newcastle in such resilient fashion, confidence is sky-high right now.

Theo Walcott will surely see an upturn in Fantasy ownership – over 56,000 have drafted the winger in over the past three Gameweeks due to his recent performances. Alex Song’s steady rate of assists offers a decent mid-price option, while Thomas Vermaelen’s eye for goal and Bacary Sagna’s delivery from out wide have been fundamental in the Gunners’ chase of north London rivals Tottenham in the race for third.

Stoke

The installation of Asmir Begovic in goal seems to have steadied the Stoke ship. The Potters arrived at Chelsea last week on the back of a two-match winning run, with no goals conceded; an act of folly from Ricardo Fuller mean the visitors were forced to play most of the match with ten men and narrowly lost 1-0. Stoke’s short-term fixtures look appealing, even with a home game with City this upcoming weekend; given that Roberto Mancini’s side have notched just two goals in their last six away games, a home clean sheet is even a possibility.

Pulis’ side then face two of the bottom three – a trip to Wigan and a home game with Wolves – before heading to Villa. Victories in all three looks feasible, with Matt Etherington’s form on the wing likely to be crucial to their chances. Begovic and the likes of Robert Huth also offer clean sheet potential, with Ryan Shotton a cut-price out of position option, albeit a slightly risky one, given Pulis’ penchant for rotation. Andy Wilkinson is your budget option – with perhaps that little more security than the forward-thinking Shotton.

Also Consider

Swansea – with three straight wins and no goals conceded, Brendan Rodgers’ side are showing no sign of slipping as the season heats up. Home games against Everton and Newcastle, with a trip to White Hart Lane sandwiched in between, would normally be classified as tricky but, given the Welsh side’s form, a couple of wins from those three would not be surprising. Games against QPR, Blackburn and Bolton then follow – the likes of Steven Caulker, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Danny Graham offer cut-price potential right through the spine of the team.

West Brom – the Baggies have three winnable home games in the next five, as Newcastle, Blackburn and QPR all roll up to the Hawthorns. If Peter Odemwingie recovers from a calf problem, investment in the Nigerian looks certain, given his recent form. James Morrison offers cut-price potential in midfield, though with Roy Hodgson admitting he intends to utilise his squad over the remainder of the season, question marks may be raised against many of their players.

The Weak

Blackburn

The next five gameweeks offer Steve Kean’s side little optimism as the Ewood Park outfit continue their battle against the drop. A home clash against United affords the champions a chance of avenging the Gameweek 19 reverse at Old Trafford, while Liverpool also pay visit to Lancashire, with the Reds beginning to return to form following Steven Gerrard’s comeback from injury. Rovers may struggle to pick up points, with just three wins in the last eleven in front of their own supporters.

While the Gameweek 28 win at Wolves boosted the confidence and registered a first clean sheet of the season, Terry Connor’s side are clearly in free-fall. Trips to in-form Swansea and West Brom hardly bode well for Kean’s troops and, with next weekend’s trip to Bolton possibly up in the air, Yakubu and co may find it hard pushed to produce for their Fantasy owners.

Aston Villa

With the midweek home game against Bolton now postponed, Alex McLeish’s side have some work to do if they are to accumulate points over the upcoming Gameweeks. An improvement at the back, with Carlos Cuellar alongside James Collins, has seen them ship just two goals in their last four but the absence of Darren Bent up front has hit hard, with only three goals scored since the end of Gameweek 23.

Currently on 33 points, an upcoming schedule that reads (ars, CHE, liv, STO, mun, SUN) suggests Villa’s season may go down to the wire if they are to avoid the drop. The likes of Cuellar will be pivotal at the back if the Villains are to profit from the next six Gameweeks.

QPR

Mark Hughes’s side have a horrendous run of upcoming fixtures, with the schedule simply merciless on the off-form Loftus Road outfit. Home games against Arsenal, Swansea and Tottenham, in addition to trips to Sunderland, United and West Brom, suggest their Premier League prospects could well be doomed before long. Faith in the likes of Djibril Cisse and Bobby Zamora as Fantasy prospects is likely to quickly diminish over such a punishing period, with points looking particularly hard to come by as Hughes seeks to mastermind an escape from the drop zone.

Also Be Wary Of

Sunderland – in the short term, at least, the Black Cats have three tricky tests in the next four. While this weekend’s home clash with QPR looks promising for the returning Stephane Sessegnon, Martin O’Neill’s outfit then face visits to City and Everton and, with Sunderland picking up a single away clean sheet since O’Neill’s installation, both matches could spell trouble for owners of the likes of Simon Mignolet. With a home game against Spurs sandwiched in between, the Wearsiders may struggle for consistent returns before an upturn in fixtures in Gameweek 34.

Wigan – a glance at the season ticker suggests Roberto Martinez looks to have his work cut out if the Latics are to avoid the drop. Wigan have Liverpool, Chelsea, United and Arsenal in the next six, with a trip to Fulham also thrown in. Indeed, the most favourable fixture in their next six is a home clash against Stoke but with a single home win all season, the clouds are gathering over the DW Stadium right now. Despite renewed faith in Victor Moses after a goal and assist in the last couple of Gameweeks, the 5.0 priced midfielder may well be returning two-pointers once again.

Alot of people seem to be considering drafting Lampard in for his GW32 game against Wigan BUT surley he has alot higher chance of being rested for it than actually playing?

Chelsea matches around that game are:

Benfica on the Wednesday the 4th
    Wigan on Saturday the 7th
Away at Fulham Monday the 9th

Surely with RDM favouring Lampard for the big games he will play against Benfica & a tough away match at Fulham and be rested at home to Wigan? Can't see him playing 3 games in 5 days. TBH I think the same can be said for other prospects too unfortunately ie. Mata/Terry/Drogba.

Anyone got any thoughts on this?

posted a longer post about chelseas fixtures around this time yesterday.

also if they progress in CL then the game at home to newcastle cannot be in gwk34 so theyll have a blank

as much as mata and lampard tempt me i cant pay that amount for players thatll imo miss the best fixture they have

it definitely has but the point still remains that they are very unlikely to play every game as they play midweek and weekend now until mid-april (start of may if they qualify in CL)

if i was RDM looking at their fixtures id be playing malouda kalou meireles etc against wigan at home rather than a local derby v fulham or a CL quarter final

its a shame as wanted lampard myself but think its too much of a risk

RDM will still heavily rotate IMO. Although he likes the old guard more than AVB he will want them fresh for the big games and will chop and change around them.

Anyone care to share their feedback on the following WC team? 🙂

    Mig Bog
    GJ Evans Rich Simp Caulk
    Mata Walc Sig Demp Val
    Graham RVP Roo
    Bank - 0.9

    1) Looking to rotate Graham & Demp for the season. Viable?
    2) Mata (C) for one game vs Tot. And he's out.
    3) GJ becomes Skrtel if he isn't fit by the deadline. Should I Enriq instead?
    4) Schwarzer worth the extra 0.8 over Bog, considering they have only 2 CS-able fixtures? Bog also has DGWs.
    5) Richards should play week in week out sherly?

    Much appreciated 🙂

get skrtel over gj anyway. if they were the same price id take skrtel myself

if u really want man city defensive coverage go for kompany. or go hart/turner instead of richards/mignolet

like the midfield apart from mata (benched in the last home game and likely to miss out on wigan at home imo due to fixture pile-up)

like the attackers. might be getting graham myself next week, either him jelavic or adebayor

Hope Komp regains his fitness by the deadline so I can consider him. You're skeptical of Richie's injury track record I assume?

As mentioned, Mata's a one-two week punt. My gut tells me he's going to rip the Spurs defence.

      Not really.

Getting in players for specific gw's always seems to backfire on me.

Nowadays I try to go for players who have form on their side rather than just good matchups on paper.

Plus got no idea whats going to happen in a few weeks time so I usually don't look that far ahead when making my transfers.

      Depending on plenty of things;
      32 - VDV/Silva/Lampard (I'll see if I think he'll start)
33 - Balotelli (depending on MCI striker situation)
I don't think they're must haves though, just looking at some differentials/possible transfers

Made my one (and likely only) transfer for the week in Nani -> Valencia, so now looking forward to GW31 - what do we think is the best use of my 2 freebies in GW31?

    Migs, Bogdan
    JEvans, Skrtel, Enrique, Caulker, Shotton
    Dempsey, Walcott, Valencia, Siggy, Surman
    RVP, Rooney, Suarez

    Bank 2.5m
    2 Free transfers

Currently looking at Bogdan & Suarez -> Friedel & Adebayor. Any better offers?

Surman will be benched every week (except this week). Ideally I'd like to upgrade also, but quite like having an uber cheap 5th mid who always plays.

0.2m short of Surman -> Sess

No. Ba has just as much chance of scoring a goal as Balotelli. He may even have a better chance if Balotelli doesn't start. It might be worth it for a FT but not for -4pts

Ba > Suarez provided the injury he sustained on Sat isn't severe. With Gerrard back in the side I can see him racking up the points, very favourable fixtures too and he plays every game whilst Kuyt / Carroll / Bellamy etc are rotated.

No No No. Reading the posts between Joa/tosey/EnR....my gw 32 Chelsea plan looks like it's gone up in fire. Or has it? One week punt on say Kalou? He always comes to the part when least expected. Sturridge?

Then again it looks like Wigan has somehow kept the goals conceded reasonably low the last couple of weeks, not like Wolves which are shirley not avoiding the drop...

Anyone I need to consider getting in/out for a hit? So far all my trades seem to be desperate ones such as getting rid of Silva for Valencia and Linde for Begovic. Are there more strategic ones I need to do, I'm 70 points behind my fiercest rival (Scottish Brother in Law)

    Krul (Begovic)

    Enrique, Evans, Rangel (Richards, Kelly)

A little word about rotation at the Chelsea Flower Show ...

The bottom line with Abramovich will be money. If Chelsea don't get AT LEAST 4th spot, there will be Hell to pay.
di Matteo's brief will be: "Get that 4th spot, and there is a bonus for you. Get 3rd, and I will make you a rich man."
How much extra can they earn, compared with that, if they go one stage further in the C L - or even two stages?

The big boys will play ALL the league fixtures, imo.

Hmm, another way of looking at it is Abramovich has spent a lot of money on players and managers with what would appear the sole aim of winning the Champions League.

If it looks like they have even an outside chance, but could risk losing out on 4th I could see Abramovich wanting to go for the UCL victory.

Suit yourself. They are not going to beat Barcelona - or even Real Madrid with that crew, managed by di Matteo - and Abramovich know's that.

I think every sensible football fan knows that but if (and that's a big IF) they get anywhere near the semi final or final I can see Abramovich willing to allow RDM to focus on the UCL rather than the league.

Counter argument: Why would they throw everything at just trying to qualify for a competition (for next season), when they're currently in the quarter-final, and will probably be in the semi-final, of that very competition?

Money, yes, but (I think I'm right in saying that) Champions League is the one Abramovich really wants.

Well, he is enough of a realist to know that that is fanciful. Now here is the rub: the big deal, buckswise, is the preceding pool. Qualify for that, and you can buy another Torres. It is all about arriving, not departing.

I expect Chelsea to get to the semis, most likely against Barcelona. If that does happen, yes I do think it's unlikely they'll progress over the two legs, but nonetheless, I can't see anything other than a Champions League semi-final being the priority in that case.

It'll be (if they do get to the semis):
          14 Apr FA Cup semi
17/18 Apr First Leg Champions League Semi
          21 Apr Arsenal Away
24/25 Second Leg Champions League Semi
          29 Apr QPR Home

Tough run, most likely the QPR game is where some will be rested, imo. Right were you'd want them.

Dont know if I agree with this.

Chelsea can beat Wigan at home, for instance, without Lampard, Drogba and Mata, or at least with them on the bench/being subbed early.

I think bringing in a big hitter from Chelsea could end in tears.

A lot will hinge on how Chelsea do against Spurs and City though - if they are in 4th spot after the Tottenham game, I can see them prioritising UCL

Doesnt Abramovich throw his toys out the pram for pretty much anything? I mean, Ancelotti won the double and was fired the following season.

I dont think De Matteo feels particularly secure either way! Plus its not as if their second string side is incapable of beating Wigan or QPR.

As I posted above, looking at the fixture schedule around the home clash with Wigan

Chelsea matches around that game are:

Benfica on the Wednesday the 4th
      Wigan on Saturday the 7th
Away at Fulham Monday the 9th

The old guard are almost guaranteed a rest against Wigan. As much as you may want to convince yourself Lampard will play against them you know that is highley unlikely.

And regarding this game it doesn't mean by resting players they aren't still afta maximum points in the league. There are more than adequate players to beat Wigan at home rather than usuing Lampard.

I think Young will play next week, but who can be sure?

I think SAF will definitely play Valencia though. There is no need to rest players during the run-in, given they play only once a week. Therefore the best fit XI will take to the field each week - whetehr this includes Young remains to be seen. It could be Giggs on the LW?

    Hey guys,

Just noticed that Morrison has only had 1 shot in the last 2 games and it was off target. Anyone seen West Brom's last 2 games? Is this due to the team's shape being affected by the return of Brunt? Or is there another reason for his sudden dip in goal threat?

He still has a decent rate of key passes it seems.
