No Gylfi pleasure for me, Dempsey heartbreak more like. A trip to the Cottage inspired the decision to throw my FPL armband the way of Captain America, only for Sigurdsson to steal the thunder and banish me to a miserable tube ride home.

Mark lends an (un)sympathetic ear in this latest episode, as we roll through the regulars whilst discussing how we’re all heading back to the drawing board for our third striker solution.

I think doing it tonight would potentially be doing it for the wrong reasons, i.e. price rise. Points are more important now. Wait until Sat am. If it still seems like a good idea after the price rise/s then do it.

Lmao they gave Mata that assist from last night. Your rule is a joke FPL.

Just listened to the podcast, how come there's never any love for Wellbeck around here? I'd rate his prospects just as high as Valencia. Or you could have both with Rooney and forget Evans.

Welbeck doesn't score enough IMO. but he is heavily involved in all of utd's attacking play at the moment, so he is a decent shout I suppose.

It's a fair comment actually if you can put up with the rotation. 6.5m for a United is some bargain.

I think Hernandez is better choice. He will have same roll as RVP in Arsenal, rest of team will work for him. So i will probably go for Rooney, Hernandez and Valencia, since there is no better 3rd striker at moment, anybody else same choice ?
      Rotation my only concern.

I don't know what to think at the moment, I can see a 0-0 borefest or a 1-1.

But then, if Adam gets dropped, with Gerrard and Spearing in the middle then Liverpool MIT actually do alright.

The 3 man central midfield with Adam in just doesn't work, but Gerrard is nailed on, and he has his fitness back, he should be able to manage up to two games a week, I reckon he's a good shout, because he is at the heart of Liverpool's attacking play.

But I'm not sure he's worth 10 mil, I'd have him over Silva ATM though.

What do people think has gone wrong with Spurs lately?

I think Saha's emergence has really hindered them. After he banged in a couple in his debut and scored against Arsenal, Harry seemed to develop an unfounded faith in him and changed his formation to fit him in. A formation which was bringing them a lot of success.

Several injuries and a no natural cover in wide positions continued to restrict Harry's options, meaning he couldn't revert back to the tried and tested formation. With players playing out of their favoured positions, they became one dimensional and narrow going forwards. This meant they no longer pinned teams back with their wide men and exposed what was always (IMO) a slightly questionable back four.

Obviously a lot more to it than this but just my thoughts.

I think the whole courtcase thing was a distraction and once you start losing a few games it is very easy to have a little slip of form. They will be back up there with the best once they have a PL win or two under their belts again.

      1) As Doosra, says they have been playing some shithot teams (mostly)
      2) Harry's gone mental (and stopped playing the best system and the best players in their best positions, even allowing for injuries)
      3) Ledley KIng is just gone now sadly
      4) They really have had no 'luck' if you want to call it that (and I'm not a great believer in that)
      5) They're choking?
      6) Getting distracted by Harry to England stuff causing uncertainty?

The games they've lost recently are kind of the games you would expect them to lose with Everton and Stoke being slight disappointments, the whole thing has been magnified however by Arsenal getting/making some 'luck' so it looks worse than it is (last minute winner at Liverpool, last minute winner against Newcastle, Drenthe 'goal' last night). Of course none of those games involved Spurs but because Arsenal got results in them all it just (truthfully of course as they're chasing them) frames the Spurs results even worse

All of that said I think they need a really big result in the next couple of games to show their intent or 3rd is way off the agenda, I still think they'll finish 4th though, even if they lose at the weekend, unless there really is a a bigger problem maybe. Despite never occupying one of the CL spots last year they really crumbled at the run-in despite having probably the nicer run of fixtures out of the pack. That was blamed on the CL campaign (something I didn't buy) so it could just be that 'choking' / running out of steam again... They only got 4th two seasons ago by three amazing results against Arsenal, Chelsea and Man City when it looked like they were out of it, a bit of a reaction maybe to going out of the FA Cup in 'humiliating' style to Portsmouth, I think they need that kind of reaction / wake up again if they are to finish 3rd and at least some improvement to finish 4th, that or Harry waking up...

I think 2 is the key, but would place more emphasis on injuries. Although Harry favoured the 4-4-2 for a while, I think injuries have made it almost impossible to revert back. I think Chelsea are still struggling, despite one or two decent results, so can see it going to the wire. And you cant write off the possibility of Arsenal capitulating again, although seems unlikely right now.

Really need to build up some depth if they want to challenge again next year. Only 2 established wingers is madness.

Agreed, I think Chelsea despite slight recent improvement will also be bad enough to ensure 4th place for Spurs (unless the implosion really does get much worse for Spurs)

I think also that Spurs have got a bit lucky in the last few transfer windows by just scraping by (even though Rafa Van Der Vaart is an amazing player he seemed to just fall in their lap.) They 'got away' with only signing Adebayor (on loan), Scott Parker and Brad Freidel (and no-one of note last Jan I recall) and I reckon this played a bit into their thinking to 'only' get Saha and Nelsen in this January.

I can almost see Levy thinking 'well CL is certain this season let's keep the powder dry even longer, after all it's worked for us fairly well recently' (missing out on the CL last season aside, though of course they did have that nice run in the comp)

That and the loans / player exits too, Spurs have been able to get away with losing a lot of players (they did have a big squad of course) and not really been caught out by any injuries in a major way, but it looks like this time they've left themselves a bit too threadbare, for example as average as Pienaar was for them, I don't think anyone can tell me he couldn't have done a job for them the last few weeks, instead he's loaned to Everton, for what? saving a few quid on wages, in the meantime there is a realistic chance that that lack of cover could damage them in the league (maybe severely if they miss out on top 4) and the FA Cup too, plus don't forget 3rd place is an easier route into the CL as well (possible to finish 4th and still miss out on all the cash if you go out in your qualifier)

High stakes and fine margins 🙂

I've been really trying to give Ba the chance to come alive and start scoring again but he's been really disappointing. I'm giving him one more week the Baggies and if nothing, then he's gone. Can afford a striker upto 11.5M and already have Rooney and RVP. Got rid of Aguero recently and am reluctant to get any City players as Mancini's tinkering drives me nuts. Who'd people here go for as third striker?

I think that boat has sailed. Ba will without doubt score at some point cos hes quality but i feel his value was in consistancy for a mid prices striker, this is no longer the case and will always share his points with cisse anyway.

My 3rd striker is currently suarez witha very keen eye on Tevez who will be his replacement if he gets more than 30 mins on the pitch this weekend.

Yeah, agree he's quality, that's why I've held on for so long. But seeing him play so much deeper is a worry. One more week of nothing and that's it.

I'm also keeping my eye on Tevez but that would require a rejig of my team to get him in and City's rotation is a worry. Tevez could however be a massive differential if he gets going.

I mean, just for me personally, the way my team is and transfers have worked out but I do have my eye on him as a possible Dempsey switch (or even Bale if things go really bad for Spurs) going to sit on it for a couple of weeks though I think

I would definitely consider it if I have no other better options though
