Papiss Cisse is amongst the goals once again as Newcastle pick up a win at the Hawthorns. Hatem Ben Arfa produces a masterclass to steer the Magpies to victory, while Demba Ba’s Fantasy owners have cause for concern after the forward suffers yet another blank.

Papiss Cisse
January’s signing from SC Freiburg continues to rack up the goals and leave former Fantasy favourite Demba Ba firmly in the shade. Yesterday’s brace at the Hawthorns took Cisse’s record to five goals in six games since joining Newcastle and, with an assist also thrown in against the Baggies, he has returned 41 points over those fixtures; an average of 6.8 per game.

Priced at just 6.7, Cisse has wasted little time in establishing himself as the Magpies main front line threat and with (LIV, swa, BOL) up next, his eye for goal looks set to be afforded plenty opportunity to maintain his role as the key attacking force for Alan Pardew’s side. Cisse was stretchered off towards the end of the game yesterday, but has since confirmed his problem was no more than cramp and has already declared himself fit and available for next week’s home clash with Liverpool.

Demba Ba
As the gameweeks go by, it’s becoming ever-apparent Cisse’s installation up front is having a detrimental effect on Ba. Granted, they have played just six games together but a comparison of Ba’s previous performances prior to Cisse’s arrival is alarming for his Fantasy owners. Since making his first-team start back in Gameweek 5, Ba had never gone more than a single gameweek without scoring or assisting, in a run that brought 15 goals and three assists in just 16 starts.

Returning from the African Cup of Nations, he hinted at a continuation of his previous level of consistency with a goal against Villa in Gameweek 24 but since then, he’s drawn blanks. In stark contrast to his above-mentioned displays, Ba has provided a mere nine points in the last six gameweeks and, having dropped 0.3 since Gameweek 27, he looks likely to lose further owners, as many more lose faith in his capabilities.

Hatem Ben Arfa
The Frenchman started for the third consecutive Gameweek at the Hawthorns yesterday – significantly, this was his highest number of consecutive first-team appearances this season. With Pardew recently praising his work-rate, Ben Arfa seems to have finally won his manager’s trust and a superb display on the flank against West Brom will surely have cemented a start against Liverpool next week, regardless of Ryan Taylor’s availability.

The chief architect in the 3-1 win, Ben Arfa grabbed a goal and provided a couple of assists for Cisse, picking up a 15 point return, with a couple of bonus points also throw in. Over those three starts, then, he’s averaged 8.6 points per game, with the opener in the recent loss at Arsenal also highlighting his attacking potential. Finally, he’s starting to look like the mid-price Fantasy asset his talent merits and, with an ownership of 1.6%, could prove a strong differential over the last two months of the campaign.

James Morrison
Subject of recent Fantasy interest on the back of two goals and four assists in his previous eight games, the midfielder was helped off with eight minutes left, forcing the hosts to play out the match with ten men. Morrison left the Hawthorns on crutches yesterday and early indications don’t look promising for his owners, with Roy Hodgson pessimistic post-match:

It’s obviously knee ligament damage but I couldn’t say what it is until he has had the scan. But the initial prognosis from the doctors – and they seem to be quite good at these things – is that, even though they need scans to justify their fears, it is not good. He won’t have the scan today because the knee will be too swollen so we’ll have to wait and see what tomorrow brings. We’ll have to wait and see if it’s medial or cruciate ligaments that he’s damaged.

Any period of absence for the Scotsman could perhaps afford Chris Brunt a chance to re-establish himself in Hodgson’s first-team thinking. Brunt had previously filled in on the flanks since returning from an ankle problem and came on as a sub yesterday, after overcoming illness. If Morrison is ruled out, 5.6 priced Brunt may be afforded the vacated role in the hole behind Marc-Antoine Fortune, if the Baggies manager opts to keep the pace of Peter Odemwingie and Jerome Thomas out wide.

Thoughts on Crouch as a 2 week punt? Wigan away and Wolves at home are among the best fixtures all season. He must be feeling confident after that goal and is looking for a place in the England squad.

    Nightmare week so far…

    Team for this week;

    Krul

    Evans BAE Verm

    Siggy Bale Valencia Walcott

    RVP Rooney Suarez

    Mignolet Dempsey Kelly Caulker

Should I go Suarez>Cisse for a hit or wait a week? Also, Siggy or Dempsey to start?

i am slowly gettin around to the idea of baines since i got loads of cash in the bank for the foll reasons
    1. Adebayor being the most expensive 3rd striker option
    2. Siggy being a week in week out player
    3. Mclean offerin a very cheap bench option as i usually play 3-4-3 with 3 big hitters in mid and 3 upfront and siggy
With the freed up cash goin to waste Baines with his gr8 run of fixtures till season end and everton's form seems a very good option suddenly

    I'm in a pickle here...

    My team for GW 31:

    Vorm
    Shawcross, BAE, Vermaelen
    Siggurdson, Bale, Dempsey, Walcott
    Pog, RVP, Cisse

    Ruddy, Cahill, Sessegnon, Caulker

My dilemma concerns Cahill and Shawcross – the reason why I have Cahill on the bench atm. is the statistics on the away scores – Chelsea doesn’t get clean sheets – Stoke, however, does.

Think I'm gonna do Mata > Valencia/Yaya this week, though that does leave me with a defence of Jevans, Skrtel, Enrique, Senderos & Santon. Think I can just about get away with it then get a more expensive long term option in a week's time, but no idea who I'll field this week.

You need to see a consultant about this, Christian. All we know is we only had 1 match rescheduled midweek out of 4 last year around. And that was Utd to avoid crowding due to CL fixtures. If that is anything to go by, we should have 4 postponed matches 😀

What are people doing about City coverage in the coming weeks? Surely they have to put some kind of run together, everybody's ditching Silva and rightfully so...is Yaya the way? Gamble on Nasri? Or just get Komp when he returns and rely on the defence?

Massive wagon to roll out if he scores tonight.

If he starts against Norwich surely he has as much chance of scoring as Demps?

Afternoon All,Looks like the major talking point for the week is gonna be the 3rd striker choice. I’m now looking at a cheapie (have ba) or cisse. It now seems going forward that Walcott/Valencia are essential breaking up the last 4 mf dynasty. In def jevan is essential there’s q’s over newc(colocinni out), Liverpool are frustrating, city are indifferent till bad c returns and there seems to be a lotta love for baines, verm.I suppose hits will be a plenty to try and recover mini-leagues etc....

Yeah, I was not planning any hits, but After seeing Qpr last kept a Cs 23/10/11 I'm thinking Walcott has to come in.

So either Siggy-->Walcott for free(0.0m cash) but I just got Siggy in this week! Which means Ba is probably going to be be headed.

This is worse than the fiasco of the indiscriminate way that were handed out in previous years as there is meant to be some kind of guide for points.

The BAE pt for Spurs is also bizarre.

ICT, which is completely independent of PPI, had Taiwo second highest rated for his match, and BAE third for his, clearly they both did *something*. I saw the Spurs game and BAE did well, perhaps not top 3 to my eyes but still well, how many people moaning about Taiwo actually watched the match? Genuine question.

        I'm sure he does! LOL

Can't someone on here query that allocation?
        It's ridiculous.

I'm chasing a 40+ lead - I need every pt I can get at the mo especially as BAE got an extra point for my rival for doing nowt!

They have in the past but this was before the its system.
        It can't be right.
How could Taiwo get 3 when he conceded 3.
OK, he scored. BIG DEAL. So did Suarez and he got sod all.

        The BPs are a joke.

It's down to the PPI and if that's correct (god knows how it is), then they won't reassess bonus.

If the PPI is correct, it needs to be seriously reviewed.
          It's a farce.
