Eliteserien Fantasy

Eliteserien Fantasy has launched for 2019 season

We are excited to announce that our coverage of Eliteserien Fantasy is back for another season.

This is the third year that the developers of Fantasy Premier League have run the game, which is based on Norway’s top flight.

Their 2019 campaign is now a few weeks away from kick-off and there some compelling chips to excite those of us too familiar with what FPL has to offer.

So we’re here to introduce you to the game and bring you the basics…

WHAT IS FANTASY ELITESERIEN?

As mentioned above, Eliteserien Fantasy features the top division of Norwegian football.

The concept and rules of the game are the same as FPL, which makes it huge accessible for Fantasy managers looking for similar games to immerse themselves into.

The only differences between Eliteserien and the UK version are the chips and bonus points are decided by a ‘man in the stand’ rather than statistics-based formula we are used to.

The season runs from the final weekend of March right up until the first week of December, which will make for a nice summer distraction for anyone starved of football between the 2018/19 and 2019/20 Premier League campaigns.

Roughly one-third of the season takes place during the Premier League break so why not join us and soften that ‘no FPL’ summer blow?

How do the Chips Work?

Last season, the ‘Park the Bus’ chip, which doubled your points for all five defenders, proved to be hugely overpowered last season and has been replaced for the 2019 campaign.

In comes the ‘Rich Uncle’, which is effectively a Free Hit with considerably fewer restriction.

Here’s a basic description of what all the chips are:

Spissrush (Attack! Attack!) – All forwards get double points.

To Kapteiner (Two Captains) – Both your captain and vice-captain score double points.

Rik Onkel (Rich Uncle) – Make unlimited free transfers with an unlimited budget for a single round. At the next deadline, your squad returns to how it was at the start of the round.

Double Gameweek Focus

If you’ve not had enough exposure to Double Gameweek strategies, the Eliteserien throws one up very early on.

Due to some of the Eliteserien’s teams entering the Europa League qualification at a very early stage, fixtures from Gameweek 15 have been moved to Gameweek 2.

That means the early focus at the start of the season will very much be on Double Gameweek and how to navigate straight out of the traps.

With the early indication being that this might well be the only Double Gameweek of the season, using a chip at the opening stage looks like an important strategy, making the first few weeks even more exciting.

Look like decent picks if going the RU chip route

Is Rolantsson worth it without defender cs points?

Good point, he did only play in defence a handful of times last season, no surprise to see him re-classified.

This is my first year, wondering if you could shed any light on Bye & Kastrati for me. Are they both strikers fighting for a place or both pretty nailed playing different roles?

Similar number of minutes played last season, similar output too. I've gone Bye simply for price reasons, and they do play recently promoted Viking in GW1.

Torn between using RU in DGW2 or just loading up with DGW'ers from the start and possibly WC early.

The advantage with the last option is that you can build up decent TV because loads will be buying these players before GW2 without using rich uncle. I know TV hasn't been an issue in the previous seasons but by the looks of things it will have a much bigger part to play this year.

I'd rather start with a DGW-packed squad, and play spissrush/two captains.
If I have to wc so be it but think I could get away with 2/3 transfers for GW3.

Think a lot of people will play RU though - apparently that's what the FK Podcast guys are suggesting

This is current draft - quite a lot of risk with lineups/form, and not ideal for GW1. Really want Wormgoor but can't squeeze him in atm:

            McDermott / Arnebrott
Haraldseid Teniste Kristiansen / Hernandez KBK cheapo
Hestad Shala Ejuke Kalludra / Vetlesen
            Bamba James Vilhjalmsson

Good points. I like the look of the squad I can build with RU2 in mind, wouldn't leave me over-committed to the DGW, but I like Attack Attack early as there shouldn't be too much rotation at this early stage and strikers seem to be more predictable early in the season/teams not found out offensively yet.

Fun fact: Some of the Norwegian teams in Eliteserien do in fact have a rich uncle (rich person giving them gifts). Tromsø and Vålerenga would probably be bankrupted several times if not for their nice sweet uncle bailing them out.

Will change a few times before the end of the month, but here's my current team. Going in with a ridiculous defence (31.5m), awful midfield, and provisional plan to spissrush dgw2....

          McD (4.0)
          Wormgoor, Teniste, Meling, Haraldseid, Stølås
Hestad, Gjertsen (Ingebrigtsen, Leikvoll Moberg, Njie)
          James, Bamba, Kastrati

Ingebrigtsen looks like the best 5.5m midfielder to me, I like that pick. Still think TIL's squad is a bit light having not really replaced Lehne Olsen or Åsen but Ingebrigtsen could step up and should have a very attacking role. Want to see what this Brayan Rojas guy adds.

Cheers, saw a recommendation for him on Twitter so thought he was worth a punt. Did have Åsen in initially but think he's a bit too expensive for now.

Match report of TIL 9-0 lower division Fløya says Ingebrigtsen with a goal and an assist. Brayan Rojas 4 goals. Onni Valakari (coach's son) keeps popping up in these reports, he could step up.

Interesting, cheers. No space for strikers from the off but Valakari could be an interesting option at only 5.0 and 0.6% ownership

Don't know I'm afraid, but was certainly recommended Kastrati as the better pick.

Kastrati probably more nailed, he joined KBK halfway through last season. Would've been in lots of teams if he wasn't ridiculously aggressive, he had more bookings than goals and picked up several suspensions. Bye is a bit more of a target man, both should be good picks

            Q. If I’ve got 2 free transfers this week and play free hit, how many free transfers will I have next week?

              Only 1

(make sure you don't make the same mistake when you play the Rich Uncle chip in FES!)

Hmm...ok. What if I used both free transfers, confirmed it, then went on to use free hit chip in same week. Can I do that?

Those will get cancelled, if you play FH your team will revert to what it was after the GW30 deadline

Really happy Eliteserien and Allsvenskan Fantasy is back! The Allsvenskan team needs a lot more attention before looking anywhere ready, but the Eliteserien one is getting somewhere:

            Rossback
            Meling - Wormgoor - Bjørnbak
Shala - Eikrem - Mateo Lopez - Antonsen
            Høiland - Vilhjálmsson - James
(Wichne - Bjørkeeiet - Ronald Hernández - Jansen)

At the moment I have 1,5 m available, so there's room for upgrades. I'm also considering Rojas Jiménez over Høiland, and that's another 0.5 itb. Any suggestions? Could always make room for more Rosenborg assets, but I'm not sure how that midfield will look this season.

As far as chip planning is concerned, I'm a bit open as to what strategy I'll go with. Playing Rich Uncle in GW2 is something I'm looking at, but several key players in that double are also decent long-term options.
