A “stupid” injury is set to keep Sergio Aguero sidelined tomorrow, though Vincent Kompany should come back for City. Nani is out for United’s trip to Blackburn on Monday, Aaron Lennon is available for Tottenham again, while Anthony Pilkington remains a doubt for Norwich, due to a hamstring problem.

Roberto Mancini has ruled Sergio Aguero out of tomorrow’s clash with Sunderland. The Argentine missed out at Stoke last weekend due to a foot problem but his manager was more than a little cryptic in this morning’s press conference over the exact cause of the injury. Despite being quizzed several times over the incident, Mancini would only concede:

For Aguero, I am really disappointed- I don’t know when he can play.It is a stupid injury. I prefer not to say. It was not his fault but he can’t play with this injury; for one day, 10 days or two weeks. I don’t know. But he couldn’t play against Stoke and can’t play tomorrow. I hope he can recover for Arsenal next weekend.

Mancini revealed plenty more this morning, with further news of interest for Fantasy managers..

Vinnie…I think that he will be okay. Joleon- I hope for the next game. I don’t think that tomorrow he can play. Carlos- I don’t think that he can start but I think that maybe he can play more.

Kompany’s return will be a huge boost to City’s backline- the City skipper has missed the last three league games, with his side conceding in each of those fixtures. With Aguero out and Tevez a likely impact sub from the bench tomorrow, it seems that Mancini will turn to Mario Balotelli to lead the line, with Edin Dzeko perhaps afforded a first-team opportunity if the Italian decides to go with two up front.

Kenny Dalglish has dismissed reports suggesting that Charlie Adam is out for the season and revealed Liverpool will analyse the midfielder’s knee problem in a couple of weeks to determine the extent of his injury. While many in the media have written off the former Blackpool man’s campaign already, his manager isn’t looking that far ahead, with the club still optimistic he will play again this term. Dalglish also offered a relatively vague injury update on Craig Bellamy, Glen Johnson and Daniel Agger yesterday, saying:

They’re better than they were but we don’t play until Sunday. With a week you get a few people back you didn’t have last week.

Rio Ferdinand is fit and available for United’s trip to Blackburn on Monday evening. The defender was subbed off near the end of the 1-0 win over Fulham as a precautionary measure and has suffered no after-effects to his on-going back problem this week. Sir Alex Ferguson also revealed Nani will remain sidelined for the Ewood Park trip:

It’ll be the same squad as Monday night with no changes. We expect Nani to train tomorrow but the game will come too soon for him. Rio is okay, he just felt a bit stiff. We know the situation with that. We addressed it right away and put Chris Smalling on. He’s fine.

Gael Givet continues to be a doubt for Blackburn. The defender has missed the last six for Steve Kean’s side and the Rovers boss conceded he was still only 50-50 to recover from a hamstring problem in time for the showdown with the champions.

Brendan Rodgers has admitted Nathan Dyer may have to make do with a bench role upon his return from suspension this weekend. The winger has missed the last three after picking up a straight red in the Gameweek 27 match at Wigan and, with Swansea winning two of those three in his absence, Rodgers has revealed he may stick with Wayne Routledge for the trip to Tottenham this weekend:

It’s brilliant to see Nathan back. Whether he comes straight back in or not is one of those decisions you have to make as manager. Nathan might have to wait for a chance on the bench. The team have been fantastic if you look at March as a whole. Of course the Everton result (2-0 loss) was disappointing, but we took nine points from 12 overall. That is a fantastic return and Wayne has played a great role in that.

Tony Pulis expects to have Robert Huth available for selection this weekend, despite the centre-half failing to train all week. The German is suffering from a dead leg but should recover in time to travel to Wigan tomorrow, while Jonathan Woodgate is also said to be back in contention after recovering from a calf problem.

Aaron Lennon has been passed fit for Spurs’ home clash with Swansea on Sunday. The winger has failed to feature for the past three Gameweeks due to his ongoing hamstring problems but has been included in the squad for the Swans’ showdown. Lennon’s availability could allow Rafael Van der Vaart to move centrally again, joining Emmanuel Adebayor up front, though Louis Saha is also injury-free and affords another option.

Paul Lambert revealed Anthony Pilkington will continue to be monitored ahead of Norwich’s trip to Fulham tomorrow. The midfielder missed out on the 2-1 win over Wolves last week due to a hamstring problem and is a doubt for the game at Craven Cottage.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Food for thought on Swansea ahead of their trip to Spurs.

Since Sigurdsson's arrival, they have lost just four games - all to hard-working and well-organised teams (managed by O'Neill, Lambert, Pulis and Moyes). Against more free-forming and unrestricted opposition they have fared far better however, beating Fulham, Man City, Wigan and Arsenal, and drawing with Chelsea.

This might just be coincidence, but given their possession based game, it seems reasonable to assume that they struggle against better organised and harder-pressing teams, whilst revelling in the spaces left by more attack-minded and less defence-orientated opposition. With Spurs falling heavily into the latter category, a win for Swansea (and returns for Sig/Sinclair/whoever) would not be the biggest of surprises this weekend. In fact, it might just be going in my accumulator...

I like your thinking. It's almost as if the passing game has no end product when they play defensive minded sides and they get frustrated. While I think Spurs will dominate I reckon Swansea will have enough of the ball to cause Spurs a few problems.

I'm not sure about this, Fulham played against them at home with no width whatsoever, they crammed the midfield and consequently were short of ideas and space when they did get the ball. I think attempting to play Swansea at their own game is a mistake because they're so patient passing at the back - they'll create holes against pressure whatever the opposition's formation.

I think that width and pace might be the best way to harry them and get them playing in a way they're less comfortable with, I guess we'll see.

Fulham's problem all season has been a lack of width. It's been so evident, but when you have Dempsey drifting in off the right flank and an inverted Ruiz/Duff etc on the left, it's to be expected I guess.

My personal opinion, having seen Milan succeed at it v Barca midweek, is the best way to play Swansea is to press high and early, and then (if that doesn't force an error / win the ball) fall back into a narrow, compact defence. It's a risky ploy though, Wolves tried it earlier this season and Swansea just passed their way around them. The phrase 'headless chickens' came to mind.

Spurs will probably play as they always do, so we'll see how they fare. Swansea sit deep anyway, which will negate the threat of Bale's pace. Modric's creativity could thus be key...

Against Swansea it was clearly a conscious decision from Martin Jol to play narrow and tight, it wasn't that his side were fundamentally incapable of standing wider than the centre circle - and it was a strategic error by his own admission.

Pressing high and early is precisely what Swansea want, that's why the pass it around the back so much, perhaps it'll work for Spurs if Parker and Modric are disciplined enough, but I predict that having Bale and Lennon as wide outlets will get the Swansea defence turned in a way that playing narrow wouldn't. We'll see, interesting chat anyway!

Indeed, indeed. Wonder if the width will reap rewards for Adebayor centrally - he's due one of his 15-20pt haul matches!

(ps re my Fulham being narrow comments, that was more in reference to our approach in attack, slightly erroneously off-topic seeing as we were talking about defence! My bad. But you were bang on the mark re MJ getting the Swansea tactics wrong - think he sheepishly sort-of admitted as much post-match...)

I went through this thought process earlier today, but unlike Fulham, Spurs can harry (excuse the pun) a team... Bale, Parker, Lennon, Livermore/Sandro all have the work rate to press. Will be very interesting indeed if Harry starts with Modric and Parker in the middle and plays both Lennon and VDV... I'd fancy a Swansea goal if so.

Still, with Aguero out injured, then Siggy is in my first 11 this week (with Kelly first sub).

Harry's team choice will be key. If you go with the pressing tactic, you can't afford to 'carry' players, which is what would probably happen with vdVaart and his questionable workrate. Saving grace is that, despite appearances, Adebayor puts in the hard yards defensively which will help. Parker in the middle will be hugely important but he can't do it on his own, or so high up. Swansea's defence sees so much of the ball that Adebayor/Bale/vdV/RightWing will have to be at their best. Going two up top (Saha/Adebayor) with both pressing could be a smart move.....

I'd look at it this way - an Evans cleanie gets 4pts, a Sig goal gets 5pts.

Evans is still a safe-ish bet though. Albeit Rovers did "ok" v MU last time out... 😉

GUIDE TO NAVIGATING THE “BLANK PLAGUE” OF GW34 and DOUBLES OF GW36

    WARNINGS
    - If you don’t intend on attempting to put a full XI out for GW34, stop reading.
    - If you are resigned to going “hits crazy” in order get as many DGW players in as possible now, stop reading.
    - If you are the type of person that has to stop, point and laugh when they see two dogs humping in the street, continue reading, I like the cut of your jib.

    PRESCRIPTION
    A – 4 = B

    DIRECTIONS FOR USE
    1) A = The number of players you currently own who have a DGW in GW36. In my case, that number is currently 7.

    2) B = The number of these DGW players you need to get rid of before GW34 in order to field a full XI. In my case that number is therefore 3.

    3) Once you know ‘B’, you can then identify which of the players from ‘A’ you wish to discard. Obviously you will be choosing those who you think have the weaker form/fixtures or weaker double in GW36.

    4) May I suggest your replacements for ‘B’ are players from one of the following teams: Swansea, Sunderland and to a lesser extent West Brom. The reason for this is that not only do they have good home fixtures in GW34, they also have great home games in GW36 which you may choose to play them in.
    Swansea = BLA & WOL
    Sunderland = WOL & BOL
West Brom = QPR & AVL
Sure they aren’t doubles in GW36 but they are great games in their own right. It’s notable the FFS ticker actually rates Swansea and Sunderland’s 1 game in GW36 superior to the Bolton and Fulham DGWS that week. By that logic, the likes of Sess, McClean, Siggy, Sinclair etc are as good as, or better actually, than a DGW player from Bolton/Fulham.

    5) Depending on the number defined by ‘B’, you may have the opportunity to save a transfer somewhere before GW36. This will enable you to compliment the 4 DGW players you bench in GW34 with a maximum 3 DGW players before GW36 with no hits. Otherwise those unable to save a freebie and refusing to take hits will have to settle for a maximum of 6 DGW players.

    SIDE EFFECTS
    - May require you to plan on benching RVP, Rooney, Evans in GW36.
    - Test of will power.
    - Social alienation as most will fill their pants and go on a spree at the thought of 11 DGW players.
    - Abundance of freetime not spent worrying about GWs 34 and 36.

At more expense than the 3 you have mentioned Arsenal have WIG sto for those two - depending on how you rate sto that's work investment IMO.
City with nor MUN sounds unappealing but it allows you guilt free to bench Kompany that week with a Kelly or Simpson to play instead.

Looks like Kelly and Dempsey then between now and GW34, then save a transfer for a possible 8 DGW players with no hit?!

          Sorted.

Really useful guide - many thanks for this.

An additional complication is the double DGW for Bolton in Weeks 35 & 36. This slightly changes the calculation as to whether a Swansea and Sunderland player with only one game in GW36 is a better option than Bolton representation.

Hit a dead end at the bottom of last page. RePost.

    Afternoon guys.

Is it worth a hit to do Mata > Walcott this week? Id actually like to keep Mata for WIG next week, but RDM has hinted that he maybe a rotation risk. Already done Enrique > Vermaelen.

    Team:

    Schwarzer
    Evans. Vermaelen. Simpson
    Valencia. Mata. Bale. Sigurdsson. Dempsey
    Rooney. Van Persie.

    Subs: Vorm. Shotton. Caulker. Holt.

    Thanks in advance

EUROPA League Final Group Matches preview

    Group E

Gropu E still has a little to play for, but is not as open as some of the other groups we have looked at. Besiktas. guided by FFS legend Jack (off)Attack have secured qualification while Maccabi Tel-Aviv under LightKnight, will play no further part. Meanwhile both Stoke, under tournament co-founder Parmtree and Dynamo kyiv, under John D will look to seal a place in the 2nd round. Due to his H2H record over JohnD, Jack has already secured top spot. For Stoke, they must beat Besiktas and hope Maccabi can turn Dynamo over, nothing else will do.

Dynamo Kyiv (JohnD) v Maccabi Tel-Aviv (LightKnight) Dynamo can secure their place in the 2nd round with just a point in the match due to 2 wins over Stoke. No transfers have currently been made, and I don't anticipate that this is likely to change. The same can be said for Maccabi, so Dynamo will start with their 4 point advantage still in tact.

    Predicted Line-Ups

Dynamo - Bogdan, Skrtel, Verm, Evans, Walcott, Bale, Siggy, Valencia. Rooney, RvP, Suarez

Maccabi - Cech, Verm, Simpson, Distin, Siggy, VdV, Dempsey, Gerrard, Balo, Sturridge, RvP

Key Battle - 2 highly different teams with only Verm, Siggy and RvP in common, this battle is difficult to call. For Knight, much rests on Cech, Gerrard, Dempsey and Balo, but it may not be enough

    Prediction - Home Win

Besikats (Jack(off)Attack v Stoke (The Parmtree) Tournament co-founder Parmtree stares down the barrel of early elimination as his Stoke side face tough task away at already qualified Besiktas. Needing a win to have any chance, things don't look good. Both sides have taken a 4 point hit. For besiktas I anticipate that Ba and Enrique have departed, possibly for Cisse and Baines. For Stoke. I expect Silva and Sorensen have departed, possibly for Bale and Begovic

    Predicted Line-Ups

Besiktas - Krul, Richards, Verm, Evans, Baines, Walcott, Valencia, Bale, RvP, Rooney, Ba

Stoke - Begovic, Enrique, Evans, Simpson, Valencia, Dempsey, Bale, Barfa, Rooney, RvP, Yak

Key Battle - Walcott and Ba v Dempsey and Yak

    Prediction - Narrow Home Win.

I have just worked out my transfers and subs to hopefully get as much as possible out of GW34 and make the most out of GW36.

    At present I have:

    9 players playing GW34, and,
    7 players on DGW's in GW36

Is this enough? Should I be considering 'hits' to make this 11 and 11???

Help needed, I really want to win my league at work (£250) and I'm 50 pts adrift in 3rd at the moment!

You'd have to be sure Mancini holds no resentment towards Tevez. Even if he does start him at some point, would he pull him off for one or two misplaced passes because he can't stand the sight of him?

Better value out there, I'd say.

So that has Ryo & Bogdan written all over it, correct? Anyone else worth considering?

That's a fair point, although Bogdan can work til end of the season, if you've got a decent second keeper he can rotate with.....

I went for Miyachi cos Siggy seems to like playing away and Spurs tend to bomb forward and may leave the sort of gaps he can expose. Its a gamble either way.

Would say Siggy because of fixture, though Siggy away form is pretty amazing.

Pretty sure Cahill will play.......tested midweek means he'll be back in. Don't know about Senderos, lots of people in same Caulker boat...

I don't think I will, cause IF I did it, it would be for a 4pt hit for me.

There's a good chance RVP will score more than any DGWer in GW36, GW37 and GW38.

Finally did Mata > Valencia. Now have 1.6mil to play with...worth taking a hit to get rid of Enrique or Skrtel for Kompany or Verm?

I know the received wisdom is don't take hits for defenders but I have Santon and Senderos who are unlikely to start and doubling up on Liverpool any longer seems unwise. Could instantly pay off and leave me with an extra man ready for 34 as well.

Still wouldn't take the hit and just play Skrtel this GW, then swap for likes of Verm next week.

I'd have to play both him and Enrique.

          Is a pain, however:

-4 points, potential CS for Verm/Komp makes end total +2

0 points. No CS for Pool means end total is +2 still.

Just that you're erring on side of risk that Verm/Komp could easily concede and then you've taken a small hit, while Skrtel should at worst get +1 if he gets yellow.

Only a few points but all adds up, obviously swapping next GW at latest is somewhat essential though.

what do we think to the following planned transfers:
    GW32 Pog > Odem
    GW33 Enrique > Verm
    GW34 no transfers
    GW35 Mclean > Miyaichi
GW36 2 frees JEvans > Cahill and either Valencia > Mata or Odem > Cisse

This gives me 11 for GM34 and 7 for double GM36 without any hits?

Which of the latter would you go for?

    cheers
