Captains

Captain Sensible – No leading option for Double Gameweek 35

It looks like Fantasy Premier League managers will have the opportunity to use a differential captain for green arrows in Double Gameweek 35.

Just as was the case in the previous two Gameweeks, there is no one standout candidate for this round of fixtures, which significantly reduces the risk of going against the grain.

In fact, such is the nature of the schedule over the next few days that even a handful of single Gameweek options can make a strong case for the armband.

As usual, we’re here to analyse each player to help you find the best captain…

As this article uses Opta data, the main bulk is only accessible to Fantasy Football Scout members.

Captain Poll

Once again, there is no clear and obvious favourite in the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll. Currently in the lead is Wolves striker Raúl Jiménez (£6.9m) but he has just 26.35% of the vote at the time of writing. He is certainly not a bad choice with five goal involvements in as many Premier League outings. Double Gameweek 35 has probably been the kindest on Wolves, who have two favourable fixtures coming up. At first, they host Brighton, who seem to have sleepwalked into the thick of the relegation battle, before Arsenal come to Molineux. The Gunners have just one clean sheet on the road this season, while Wolves, and Jiménez in particular, tend to do better against the bigger clubs.

Soaring into second place after an impressive display in the Champions League midweek is Raheem Sterling (£11.5m). He has five goals in his last four league matches and also has two fixtures in Double Gameweek 35. They pit Manchester City against Spurs (home) and Manchester United (away).

Such is the support for the defending champions despite difficult fixtures, that Sergio Aguero (£11.7m) is currently third in the captain poll. His one goal since Gameweek 28 is not of huge concern to the voters as he has 14.87% backing at the time of writing.

Son Heung-min (£8.8m) heads up a very tightly-packed contest to be the best of the rest for Double Gameweek 35. His support of 5.95% is only just a little more than Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) on 5.84%. While the Spurs man has two fixtures, against Manchester City (away) and Brighton (home), this is where we see how many managers are concentrating on single Gameweek players.

Salah and his Liverpool colleagues travel to Cardiff, who have conceded at least two goals in every match played against top-six sides this season. The Bluebirds shipped four when they went to Anfield in Gameweek 10, with Salah producing a goal and two assists. Furthermore, the Egyptian looks like he could be back to his best after his spectacular strike against Chelsea on Sunday ensured he had goals in back-to-back league games since Gameweek 23. Sadio Mané (£10.1m) is also in the top 10 with 3.55% support.

Arsenal’s Double Gameweek fixtures aren’t too bad as they face Crystal Palace (home) and Wolves (away). However, uncertainty over Unai Emery’s team selection is probably why none of their options backed by more than 4.41% in the captain poll. That honour falls to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m), who has a backed by just a few more than colleague Alexandre Lacazette (£9.4m) on 2.77%.

Kevin de Bruyne (£9.7m), Eden Hazard (£11.0m), Andre Gray (£5.9m), Gerard Deulofeu (£5.6m), Christian Eriksen (£9.3m) and Lucas Moura (£6.8m) are the only other options on 1% or more.

    are either of these moves worth a -4?
    A - Ryan to Leno?
    B - Duffy to Cathcart/Yoshida?

    Ben Davies an option? Think he’ll play at least 90 minutes in the double and probably against Brighton. Then likely to get played in the games in between the CL.
    Can’t see many better options with up to 5.6 to spend on a defender
    Played 90 mins in last two prem games

    Which defender gets more points this week? One week only for my draft team so ignore prices:

    a) Masina
    b) Coady
    c) Jonny

    There are 3 factors to consider:

    1. Clean sheet potential: Wolves defenders come out slightly on top with 48%+25% versus 36%+31%.
    2. Likeness to start both: Coady has played every minute, Masina looks very likely to play both with Holebas out, I’m not sure on Jonny but think there’s a good chance he misses a game.
    3. Attacking threat: Jonny is probably ahead here, no idea on Masina but I’d guess he’s more attacking than Coady

    I feel like the last few weeks with all these chips and stuff I’ve spent so little time on my captain as I’ve been so busy with my FH/WC/hits.

      Get captain right this week and next then huge rank rises are possible.

      Captain choice is much more important this week than whether or not to transfer a Brighton defender out for a Watford / saints one

        Yeah. Maybe I’ve lost sight of that. Then again maybe I’m making excuses. Hazard and Kun did ok before Duffy did the 1 point

        I’m between Sterling and Jiminez. Outside shots on Kun and Son are not unthinkable

          Jimenez, Sterling or Son for me with aguero a clear 4th. It’s the Brighton game that makes Son attractive. You can make a good case for all 3. No idea what I’ll do

          Between Jimi, Son and KDB actually

          Dunno if Duffy has put me off capping a non Top 6 player. Son is rested so will play but not sure I see him scoring against city for a third game. I like KDB as a differential who loves the big games.

          Will probably go KDB in the end

    What move should I make?

    A) Vardy, Eriksen -> Llorente, Sterling (-4)
    B) Vardy, Eriksen, Camarasa -> Sterling, Moura, Long (-8)
    C) Camarasa -> Hojbjerg
    D) Vardy -> Wilson

    I’m flip flopping between KDB, Jimi and Son

    KDB is a big game player so fixtures suit him if he starts (bit of an if as would be 4 in a row)
    Jimi is solid and usually dependable but worried Wolves will be in beach mode (also remember the Huddersfield games, 0-2)
    Son is in crazy form without Kane there. Don’t think he’ll score again at the Etihad (city will get revenge, that’s how football is) so it’s all on Brighton game.

    Also own Raz but not expecting to play both, also capped him in both other DGW (11 and 3 as returns)

    Any thoughts anyone has on which I should go for?

      I'm currently flipping between Son and Sterling. Not ruling out Kun.
