How Azpilicueta’s goal threat is affected by Alonso and Hudson-Odoi

Chelsea’s 2-2 draw with Burnley on Monday night was a mostly disappointing result for Fantasy managers who own the Blues’ defenders.

Although he was unable to bank a 15th clean sheet of the season, Cesar Azpilicueta (£6.4m) at least compensated with an assist for Gonzalo Higuain‘s (£9.1m) goal against the Clarets.

That was Azpilicueta’s seventh attacking return of the season, with five of those arriving in the last 11 Gameweeks.

Having played mostly as a centre-half under Antonio Conte in a three-man backline, Azpilicueta has had to re-acclimatise to life as a right-back since Maurizio Sarri’s appointment last summer.

The Spain international has not been without his detractors this season, especially for his limited ability going forward.

Marcos Alonso (£6.3m) had previously suffered criticism from Chelsea fans and beyond, of course, but his weaknesses are very much defensive in nature and Fantasy managers cared little about negative critiques of his all-round ability as a left-back while the attacking returns were flying in at the other end.

It is actually since Alonso lost his ever-present status in Gameweek 24 that Azpilicueta’s output has improved in terms of goal involvement.

Having registered no goals and just two assists up until that point, Azpilcueta has one goal and four assists from the beginning of February onwards.

Azpilicueta would traditionally be the full-back to hang back in defence as Alonso bombed forward but the latter’s frequent absence of late has perhaps freed up Azpilicueta to get forward a little more.

Not that Alonso’s no-shows and Azpilicueta’s increased attacking threat are mutually exclusive: the much-maligned left-back has been on the pitch for three of those five most-recent returns.

Nevertheless, we will use Gameweek 24 as the starting point for our analysis of Azpilicueta’s performances in the Members’ article below.

Could Zaha have a swansong for Palace?

For a -4 have the exact money for Eriksen > Salah, and Vardy > Zaha.

Conscious it could backfire badly but worried about no Salah coverage. Have Mane and Robbo.

    A) KDB >> Bilva / Moura
    B) KDB + Mariappa >> Bilva + VVD (-4)
    C) something else 0.8 itb

    Lloris
    TAA • Duffy • Dunk
    Mane • Son • Sterling • KDB
    Kun • Jiménez • Gray

      Hi

At the moment, I'm considering saving the FT but I'd like to bring in either Sterling or Salah - just not sure how best to do it. Or are Aguero and Mane enough from either team?

Anything jump out that needs changing for GW36?

      1FT, 0.0ITB
      Lloris (Foster)
TAA / Laporter / Duffy (Bednarek / Dunk)
      Mane / Eriksen / Son / Pogba / Jota
      Aguero / Jimenez (Gray)

      Thanks!

EXCLUSIVE: Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk beats Manchester City's Raheem Sterling to be crowned PFA Players’ Player of the Year | @Matt_Lawton_DM https://trib.al/B4MktIe

Madness that it's decided before the end of the season. Both worthy winners but for me it should basically be decided by the league in cases like this. By definition one of them won't have don't enough.

For me indivisual award should be indivisual. I agree they should have seen for all matches of the season. Sometimes bad teams have someone who give all his heart and soul and does everything right. But they dont become champions due to bad teammates.

I get your point, klein, but then I think the player of the year becomes a lot wider of a field.

At least we don't have the mess of "most valuable player". Although I sense at least this year we would have the same winner.

Slightly left field but I’d be tempted to go KDB Dunk to
              Bernardo Robertson

Have salah mane and vvd. Is it wise to get 2nd liv def in place of salah to accomodate sterling and upgrade elsewhere? Probably not before hud but what about after that?

Thinking of Doherty > Kelly and Martial > Mane for a -4

Need to cover Mane as both my ML rivals have him. Slight worried about how nailed Kelly is but he looks best option that's 4m or less for GW37 when I am struggling for a good 3rd defender.

Rival has a 5 point lead and has Jimenez (TC), Sterling and Jota playing tonight.

I have Aguero (C), Jota, Jimenez, Laporte and Doherty.

Who will be leading after tonight then?

            Thanks...

Just looking ahead. How are you planning on following the final day? Motd challenge? Watching BT/sky people watch the games? What we need is redzone.

If it were me, I'd opt for C. You already have Mané, and Son is out of the first leg vs. Ajax so he'd likely start against West Ham.
