Liverpool options dominate Gameweek 36 captaincy in spite of Salah’s USA trip

Liverpool players are going to be the most popular in the Gameweek 36 captain poll.

After witnessing Manchester City reclaim the Premier League top spot outright on Wednesday night, Jurgen Klopp’s men will almost certainly be at their best when Huddersfield come to Anfield on Friday night.

However, selecting the right Liverpool player may take some work ahead of the Gameweek 36 deadline.

Sadio Mané (£10.0m) has already taken an early lead in our latest captain poll, which you can vote in below or on the sidebar of our website.

The Senegalese international has 10 goals in his last 10 Premier League home matches, making him the most reliable in terms of form in front of his own fans.

However, Mohamed Salah (£13.2m) may give Mané a run for his money given his impressive performance in his last Anfield match, against Chelsea in Gameweek 34.

The Egyptian’s spectacular strike in that game marked the first time since Gameweek 23 that he had scored in back-to-back Premier League games.

Salah also picked up an assist for James Milner‘s (£5.6m) penalty against Cardiff and has won more spot kicks in the league for Liverpool than any of his colleagues this season.

There may be some reticence from his owners to captain him though, after he spent some time in New York this week.

Salah was recently named one of the world’s most influential people by Time Magazine and was in the USA to attend the prestigious Time 100 Gala.

He has reportedly returned to the UK now but his travels (to a different time zone) could affect how much faith Fantasy managers are willing to place in him for Gameweek 36.

There are a number of options worth considering in Liverpool’s defence too.

Andrew Robertson (£6.8m), Virgil van Dijk (£6.6m) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (£5.6m) could all benefit from the fact that Huddersfield remain the division’s lowest scorers and Liverpool have more clean sheets than any other side.

While Barcelona await Liverpool next week, the fact that they are playing Huddersfield on Friday night should ease concern over rotation.

Outside of the Reds, it is hard to truly find much inspiration for a differential captain, such is the quality of Liverpool’s fixture.

Manchester City are the only team whose form is comparable as they travel to Burnley but backing Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) or Sergio Aguero (£11.8m) may still be seen as a risk.

The two players combine for just five attacking returns in their last four away matches, each player blanking twice in that run.

That said, Burnley look safe from the drop this season and have little to play for, so there’s every reason that Manchester City could record a heavy win, especially with no Champions League to consider any more.

Spurs, on the other hand, do have to concern themselves with European competition still, which could affect how they line-up against West Ham on Saturday lunch-time.

Son Heung-min (£8.8m) is banned from the first leg of the Champions League semi-final against Ajax so he should feature, and is probably the most likely to succeed out of his colleagues.

West Ham have one of the worst defences in the league over the last six Gameweeks, so there should be plenty of chances for Spurs.

Christian Eriksen (£9.3m) has been a key player for them in that time but he could be finally handed a rest ahead of midweek after starting every league game since Gameweek 18.

Jamie Vardy (£9.0m) remains in the picture as a differential captain too after he extended his scoring run to eight goals in as many league matches in Double Gameweek 35.

This weekend he faces an Arsenal side that continues to struggle away from home, most recently outperformed by Wolves in a 3-1 defeat at Molineux.

Salah is only 22% owned by the top 10k.

If he does very well, and you TC'ed him, expect bumper OR rise.

Why was Salah nominated as one of the worlds most influential people?

Sure, he is a great footballer and seems likable but what else warrants it?

Egypt is in crisis, and he seems to unite the people only by playing for Liverpool

People are unduly influenced by celebrity these days, but Salah has a massive following particularly in the MENA. Seems as reasonable for him to be on there as pop singers, actors, politicians' spouses and the like.

    Lloris
    TAA Doherty Dunk
    Sterling Mane(TC) Eriksen Son Redmond
    Aguero Wilson

    Foster Jimenez Bednarek Valery
    1FT, £1.8m itb

Sat at 10k and looking to push into top 5k hopefully!

    Best option for this week:

    A) Save FT and TC Mane

    B) Sterling > Salah (TC), can switch back next week

    C) Eriksen, Wilson > 4.5m, Salah (TC)

    D) Doherty > VVD

    Ryan
    Laporte TAA Vertonghen
    Son Eriksen Mane (TC) Jota
    Aguero Laca Jimmy

    (Foster Duffy JWP Valery)
    1 FT, 0.6m ITB

    1. Would you TC Mane or wait for Aguero GW37 (LEI)?

    2. Laca > Firmino now for free or keep Laca for GW37 (BRI) and save transfer?

    3. Duffy in for Laca if Ryan already in goal?

    Cheers!

Following a successful DGW, I need to rebuild a bit for the final 3 matches, to protect a slender 13 point ML lead. Any thoughts on this team would be welcomed:

    Foster (Ryan)
Robertson - Doherty - Trippier (Valery - Dunk)
    Deulofeu - Jota - Sterling - Eriksen - JWP
    Aguero - Jiminez (Murray)

    2 FTs & 2.7m ITB

I would like to lose Murray & JWP, but with the need to bring in Liverpool attack, that doesn't free up much in the way of funds!

I'm sure many must be in the same boat!

Salah > mane make sense for last 3 game weeks? A little concerned about USA trip and the possibility he will be tested for CL

    Unsure how best to get Pool attack into this;

    LLoris
    Doherty, TAA, Duffy
    Sterling, Eriksen, Son, Jota
    Jimi, Laca, Aguero

    (Foster, JWP, Yosh, Valery)
    1.3m ITB, 1 FT

    a) Jota/Laca > Mane/Zaha (exact money) (-4)
    b) Erik/Laca > Mane/Bobby (-4)
    c) Erik/Laca > Salah/6.7m (-4)
    d) Laca > Bobby (free)

Currently on a) and possibly will TC mane. Would prefer Mo but don't fancy any of the strikers cheaper than zaha (Mitro is a punt too far, right?) and don't want to take a -8

Current rank 25k and just looking to maximise this now as 70pts off ML

Why not just Eriksen > Mane?

If you are certain that you want the -4, C with Mitrovic may pay off.

yes this is true, the -4 is mostly driven by wanting Laca out now, abject performance plus EL fixtures incoming.

Vardy to Firmino worth a -4?

    Is the C poll correct?
Many can not afford Salah without multiple transfers, so Mane at 3 mill cheaper is an easier option.....
If both were same price might be different 😉

    Opinions

    Mid = Bsilva - Pogba - Moura - Hazard - Deulofeu
    Fwd = Rash - Aguero - Higuain

Should I swap to get Mane? Bin off Pogba

    Also Rash or Deulofeu

    Thanks

Should've went with Hojberg instead of JWP on wildcard, now I'm faced with keeping Eriksen or taking a -4 to switch for Mane. Worth it or not?
