Captains

Man City options to headline Gameweek 37 captaincy

Manchester City and Chelsea are likely to be the teams at the forefront of the Gameweek 37 captaincy debate.

Both teams have appealing home fixtures this weekend, with Leicester City coming to the Etihad Stadium and Watford visiting Stamford Bridge.

Sergio Aguero (£11.9m) has more goals at home than any other forward this season, while the Foxes have not kept a clean sheet on the road since Gameweek 21 – before Brendan Rodgers took charge from Claude Puel.

The fact that the Argentinian found the net for the first time since Gameweek 32 on Sunday afternoon, he will certainly be in the minds of our voters.

The latest captain poll is now open and users can cast their choices either embedded in the article below or in the sidebar of our website.

Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) is likely to be another go-to option, despite registering just an assist in his last three Premier League outings.

He still has a 66.9% ownership among the top 10,000 managers, just 6% shy of Aguero.

A potential differential for Gameweek 37 could be Eden Hazard (£10.9m), and it will be interesting to see how much traction his cause becomes in the next few days.

The meeting with Watford on Sunday afternoon could conceivably be the Belgian’s last in a Chelsea shirt at Stamford Bridge, which might bring the best out of him.

However, Hazard has home form to back that sentiment up, with 47 points in his last four in front of his own fans.

That averages out at 11.75 points per game in that time, while Watford are without a clean sheet on the road since Gameweek 25.

Despite scoring five times on Huddersfield at Anfield on Friday, it is possible that a trip to Newcastle might put some managers off Liverpool options for Gameweek 37.

However, the Magpies have just one clean sheet at home since Gameweek 28, and with Premier League safety now secured the stakes are not quite as high for Rafa Benitez’s side.

Sadio Mané‘s (£10.1m) goal threat has largely been limited to Anfield matches this season, but Mohamed Salah (£13.3m) has more away goals than any other midfielder this season.

Manchester United’s visit to Huddersfield could present an opportunity for some differential captains.

The Terriers have now conceded 15 goals in their last four matches, at an average of 3.75 per game.

They are the perfect opponents for the Red Devils to face as they hope to book a finishing place in the division’s top four and claim Champions League football.

Paul Pogba (£8.5m) and Romelu Lukaku (£10.7m) will probably the ones that are looked at, although Marcus Rashford (£7.3m) is sure to be considered if he is passed fit.

Meanwhile, the form player in the league is Jamie Vardy (£9.0m) with the same number of goals in eight matches under Brendan Rodgers than in the 28 before that.

Such incredible form could see him act as a differential captain once again, even if Leicester travel to face Manchester City in Gameweek 37.

Raúl Jiménez (£6.9m) might also be looked at with Fulham coming to Molineux although the Cottagers have now recorded three clean sheets in a row.

12 points behind first in my ML. My rival has no City cover but has Hazard and Salah. Guessing he'll captain one of them.

With this in mind better to replace Eriksen with Hazard or Sterling? Already have Aguero

  22. Warning against deliberately misleading pre-deadline posts
    Geoff

    • 11 Years
    4 years, 11 months ago

As many here know, we've had trouble lately with some users posting comments just before the deadline making claims about teamsheets that aren't true. These comments often take the shape of '[player's name] benched', or other similarly short comments. These have to stop.

I don't want to stop people who actually have information from posting that information, so every case will continue to be looked at on a case by case basis. I will however be giving out long bans for this going forward, even for a first offence. A second offence will carry a very serious ban.

If you actually have information, make sure you write a few lines about it. When there's an online source you should include that. If your source is legitimate you need to do as much as you can to show users, and mods, that it's real.
There have been cases in the past when someone consistently has inside information. If you do you should contact me directly and I'll inform the mods to give you more space to post. Still, a two word post isn't good enough - taking the time to write a few sentences is something you should look to do!
And if you think you know something and after the team sheet comes out it turns out you were wrong, and you didn't include a source, you should email me immediately to explain why you posted what you did and I'll look at that as well as your post when considering a ban.

So going forward, Mods have been instructed to remove posts that say, for example, 'Aguero benched' if they appear immediately before the deadline without a source or explanation. This will likely be accompanied by a 24 hour loss of posting privileges. I will then either look at the post and give a longer ban in 24h if I have time, or it will be extended to Monday when I can give it a proper look. Again, it is mostly the very short, deliberately misleading posts that I'm here targeting.

For the majority of users, this shouldn't force a change to your posting behaviour! This is directed at a select few who post comments that either deliberately mislead other users or do it accidentally. False information cannot be tolerated.

If you have serious concerns feel free to email me about them (geoff@fantasyfootballscout.co.uk). I'll leave this thread open for now, but if you want to have a long conversation I'd prefer to do it in a more direct way over email.

But do let me know if you have questions 🙂

      Good stuff.
I've always thought the main purpose of this site was to help each other.
I never understand why people who come on here during the week asking for help, with transfers, or captain picks etc, then come on over the weekend to post false information, or LOL posts.

I think so too. This is backed up by the very low level of long term bans issued in the last year or so. Some users have come back from long term bans and have been great as well

This site has always cared about stopping users from deliberately misleading other users and has always tried to create a helpful and inclusive environment.

This really isn't a significant change of site policy!

      Yes, but...

Irresponsible froth like this flies around on twitter all the time. The increased appearance of it on FFS (and the downslope in the quality of posts in general) owes a lot to the fact that FFS now regards its twitter presence at least as importantly as this site. Probably more.

Someone commented recently that we seldom see the FFS staff posting on here nowadays by comparison with how it once was "because they are only interested in twitter really". I believe there is much truth to that. Their level of contribution has fallen and the quality of user posts and articles has fallen at the same time.

I am all for an attempt to correct a problem (and stupid 'Kun benched' posts are a problem, I agree) but you need to look at underlying causes, not just the symptoms, Geoff. What does FFS want to be? A proper, specialist website or a player in the froth-world of twitter followings? The membership fee suggests it should be the former but it seems to be increasingly behaving like the latter. Which personally I consider to be a shame.

Play in mud and you will get muddy. Play in twitter and you will get twitter-froth all over the FFS site. Simple really. If you want to drive those idiots out stop pandering to them by putting stuff into their arena.

While we are at it, could you please comment on who owns FFS now, who directs it and what its purposes are? It clearly isn't the same site I started using 5 years ago. The suspicion is that it has become a primarily commercial enterprise with a close association with FPL/EA but there has only been a deafening silence about all that.

I think you do a good job, Geoff, but that there are underlying eddies and currents that are making it difficult to square the circle. Which is why so many long-standing members are leaving (or just not posting here any more). It is one thing to contribute to a 'hive' of interest. It is another thing to contribute to a commercial enterprise where someone else profits from your voluntary efforts and thinks you should be 'grateful for the exposure'.

Certainly lots of the things you address are things that I've talked about with people behind the scenes recently, and I'm meeting with the whole FFS team the week after the season finishes to have a look at improvements and changes for next season. That will include the Members Area and general site upgrades, our behaviour and outlook, and the future goals of FFS.

The future goals of FFS of course means both as a sustainable commercial enterprise and as a place where FPL conversation can flourish, as well as the other FPL things we hope to do. As for who owns FFS nothing has changed - and what its purposes are haven't really changed either. It isn't the same site it was before because staying the same both wouldn't be possible and wouldn't be a good thing, and the suspicion that the site is primarily a commercial enterprise doesn't, for me, make a lot of sense, even though I get where people are coming from. Of course it's a source of income for those who own it but the reason it exists is because it is something useful and interesting, a place with tools like those in the members area, a place with editorial content, and a place where people can form a community to talk about FPL.

Also for the many who ask about Mark's involvement it's still there, just behind the scenes. I can't obviously speak for everyone at FFS but I speak with him a few times a week and he's still very much involved in directing what happens on site. Much in the way that despite my not posting as much as I'd like to, I'm always aware of what is being written in the comments section and directing the work the mods do.

I'm quite aware there are underlying issues and part of my job is to try to address those, and I'm also happy that we've taken steps that way since I started. There is still lots to do of course, I won't dispute that at all.

Good! I find it annoying to pay for membership and that I still should follow twitter. When you improve this site, please consider informing new tweets that have significant info also here. Hulk them or add another colour?

It would be nice to have a section where to check latest rumours about injuries and who hasn't travelled with squad etc.

I think the reason why FFS staff and a lot of other people post on Twitter and not here is simply down to convenience and the usability of the 2 websites. Twitter is quick and easy; FFS requires a bit more effort and is a bit more of a drag. Plus the notifications tab on Twitter is a huge advantage - on FFS things get lost when the page turns.

Tagging people with the @ symbol is another advantage for Twitter. This functionality could work well on here.

I think what you're suggesting is tending towards the traditional (?) format for a forum with it split into different topics and you can get notifications for those threads that you bookmark/follow or notifications is someone you follows posts or someone replies to post etc.

This would make more sense and a better forum. This has been debated before on here and I think the conclusion from the administrators/owner was that the current format works best.

The current format has it's advantages and is a good way to jump in and out of any conversation but it lacks any deeper debate or conversations.

A further and more pertinent problem is the amount of dross on here, with random/transient people posting RMTs or passing comments with no follow up (I am aware of the hypocrisy of this comment). For that reason, I think we (you?) have now come to a point where the format of this website needs to change (at least in part) to that described at the top of my post. Otherwise it will continue to decline to a cess pit of drivel fed by the clickbait tweets.

This was once a good forum that attracted and retained good posters. I'd be interested in ex-director Mark Suthern's take on it all...

        spotted - adjective

        2 : being sullied : tarnished
3 : characterized by the appearance of spots

Thanks. Will probably do Doherty to someone and play JWP final GW, don't know if it is worth saving one, but Zaha on the counter v Cardiff could be nice

    Ok I have already taken a -4
    Hazard in Eriksen out
    Long in Gray out.

Would I get back another -8 over two gameweeks if I did
    Lukaku in Firmino out
    AWB in Trippier out

So it would be a -12 in total

That would gambling on a palace clean sheet v cardiff and spurs conceding v bournemouth, Lukaku going mad v huddersfield.

Don't do it. Lukaku may be injured according to reports as well.

Thanks I will look into that.

      A -12 in 37 sounds horrific.

Yeah maybe it would be a bit silly not giving myself much chance to get value out of it with only 2 gameweeks left.

So I think it boils down to this for me if Hazard doesn't play 90 mins on Thursday
    A. Salah to Hazard (and the reverse next week)
    B. Son and Vertonghen to Hazard and Peilter (-4)
    Help!
