Scoutcast Episode 294 – Endgame

“We’re in the Endgame now.”

With just one round of fixtures left of the season the Scoutcast team attempt to wrap up all of the outstanding talking points ahead of Gameweek 38.

Andy, David and Az began by overcoming the frustrating nature of Gameweek 37 in order to get truly excited about the final day of the campaign.

Not surprisingly, the key player to be discussed was Son Heung-min, whose red card against Bournemouth ruled him out of Gameweek 38.

We looked at all the potential replacements and examined all the implications of moving him on for a cheaper midfield options.

That included our thoughts on Manchester United and Southampton assets after poor performances in Gameweek 37.

Next up was a debate on what Wolves can bring to Liverpool in Gameweek 38, especially with so many managers either double or tripled-up on them.

In the aftermath of the Reds’ incredible Champions League semi-final win over Barcelona, we also looked at what we thought Jurgen Klopp’s men are capable of in their Premier League finale.

Also, an injury to Andrew Robertson on Tuesday night prompted discussion about what to do with the left-back in Gameweek 38.

Finally, Andy, David and Az tackled some last day of the season dilemmas from managers wondering what tactics to employ to ensure the highest possible finish.

This episode of the Scoutcast can be accessed on our YouTube channel or embedded in the article below.

Once again, we apologise that we are still unable to publish it in a podcast form and will endeavour to rectify this for the 2019/20 season.

As a Valery owner I'm very concerned about playing him:

    - Gave away bad goal, Ralphie was fuming on it
    - JWP will come back, will it be a RWB?
    - General rotation has been mentioned
    - Has come on for under 15 mins a few times before

Last thing I want is a 1 pointer...

I'll be playing TAA and Laporte - then its him, Digne or Doherty. Not like I don't have other options and my nearest ML rival has both the latter two.

Play digne at least he will play 90.

Spurs form is terrible and no son or Kane plus whatever happens in the champions league. Everton should ease that game on current form

I'm currently starting Valery because I don't think Hassenhuttl is the type to drop a youngster because of a mistake, he kept faith with him when he looked shaky when he first came in but it's the last game of the season so anything could happen.

Big decisions this week. Currently 4400 rank and really want a top 10k finish. Aguero is really the only player who can realistically jeopardize this as a non owner. I have 2 free transfers and can bring Aguero in. Trouble is I don't think he is gonna score big. Anybody else in a similar position?

    1. Bubz
      • 10 Years

He will be the highest captained player in top 10k, so if he hauls you will drop like a stone. Depends how brave you are in your prediction of him not scoring well

Yeah this is the concern. If I get him I probably won't captain him but it will at least limit the damage. I really don't like making decisions based on fear though. I just don't invisage a haul. He rarely hauls away from home and I do agree with the guys on the scoutcast in that I can see them just doing enough to win, maybe 1 or 2 nil.

I would bring him in to counter the captaincy if for free for sure. I am thinking of doing the same with Salah if he’s confirmed fit to play.

I'd have thought there's sufficient a gap to 10k that you could afford to just have Kun but not (C) him and go with someone else for (C)

I have him, and am trying to stay in the top 100, but I keep sniffing at Wilson and thinking he could be my man this weekend.

If I go ahead with my planned Jota ----> Redmond xfer, this will be me for this week...

    Ryan/Boruc
    TAA, Laporte, Doherty
    Salah, Hazard, Redmond, Babel, Deulofeu
    Aguero, Rashford

.., Jiminez, Rice, Duffy..... 1M ITB

Reckon anything would be worth a -4? Namely the goalkeeper, as lets face it, Ryan will probably be lucky to get a point and Boruc probably wont play

I have JWP, Yoshida and Valery.
Planning on playing 1 SOU def and JWP at the moment.

People more in the know re Southampton - will JWP play on Sunday? Is Yoshida likely to be fit?

This will become more relevant also if Robbo is still a doubt at the deadline as I'll probably play him and if he doesn't play then either Doherty or a SOU def will come on from the bench

    Cheers

There was absolutely nothing wrong with their video. That's like calling any pundit a swear word for celebrating last night. It's football, you're meant to enjoy moments and that's what they did last week.

If you watch Lineker from last night he was praising Liverpool, Liverpool fans have this notion that everyone has an agenda against them. Gary is a Leicester fan who celebrated watching a fantastic Messi goal live at the Nou Camp ... Why would he be upset Pool went through, I remember him saying at one point that would be his preference - A potential all English CL final.

If I was with a friend at the Nou Camp, had the view that they had and saw Messi score that Free-kick live then abso-f***ing-lutely i'd be hugging my mate and celebrating. You know for a fact if you were in that position and it was Messi scoring that FK against anyone other than L'pool you'd be celebrating.

Liverpool have always had the mentality of 'It's us against them', I was actually surprised by how praising the ex-non-Pool players on punditry were, same for Phil Neville on Radio 2 this morning. Nothing but positive words.

That's my current plan atm also and def making me nervous!

To be honest if Wolves are going to put anything past us it will be one/ both of Jota and Jimi so it's hard to get it totally right but we have shown last night that even with some of our top players not playing, we can keep out the most attacking formidable teams so I am feeling more confident today than I was this time yesterday

    Last nights come back:

“Better” than Istanbul or United v B.Munich 99 final?

Note: Obviously I know it wasn’t the final last night and it means nothing if Liverpool don’t win the CL but still curious what you think.

      Istanbul is still the greatest.

That AC Milan team was arguably the best in the world and were better than Liverpool in every position, Gerrard aside. Only 45 mins to do it too. And a trophy was on the line.

      1. OldBenKenobi
        • 7 Years

I think you're right. The fact it all happened in the final and with only 45 mins to turn it around was just believable.

Also as good as Barca are they aren’t the good as they used to be and that Milan team was top notch at the time.

A trophy being on the line ultimately seals it for me.

And even though we were without Salah and Firmino, last nights team was closer to Barcelona's than 05's team to Milan's.

I mean the fact that they had to keep a Messi teaem scoreless over 90mins of need to score 5 was some ask and they did it!

      Just too hard to compare.
The players only had HT break in Istanbul to think about it
This year, they had a whole week to reflect which probably relieved any pressure. To do it whilst in the midst of a title race without Mo/Firmino makes it even more unbelievable
Either way, greatest night at Anfield

What to do with this team? Planning on playing JWP in place of Gray, if I was to transfer out Gray for someone i'd have to bench JWP which I don't want to do against HUD.

    1FT, 1.2m in the Bank.

    Ryan - Leno
Robertson (Flagged) - Valery - Dunk - WanB - Shaw
    Sterling - Eriksen - JWP - Bilva - Hazard
    Gray - Jimenez - Aguero

    1. Kola + Son -> Kompany + Bilva (0.6m).
    2. Kola + Son -> Laporte + Fraser (1.0M).
    3. Other moves.

    Lloris.
    Bednarek, Kola, TAA.
    Salah (c), Mane, Son, JWP.
    Vardy, Aguero, Jimenez.
    Foster, Romeo, Duffy, Dunk.
2ft, 0.0m. 120k. Hoping to make the Top 100k at least.

Still allowed to sign under 16s though... I'm sure FIFA are aware of the irony of that

      Azpi / James - Rudiger - Luiz - Emerson / Alonso

Will depend on how they're priced I think, but you have to worry about the strength of the squad once you take Hazard out of it.

A cheap Reece James would be tempting, if he plays. Big if.

I think Pulisic will be over priced for sure, I'd like to see Hudson-Odoi become a proper option if Willian were to leave.

He’s the hear and soul of Chelsea attack, who excels year after year. This season alone would’ve been a complete disaster without this guys.

I’m sure if Chelsea wants to stay a top 4 team, they’re ready to keep him at any cost.

After a poor season, they're eager to prove that they're turning it around. Issue is Chelsea want 100 mil, and won't budge whereas Real want far less.

Looks likely he will go, but who knows in this mad world! Definitely loves the club though and will try to go on good terms with the fans

Far from certain. 3 teams have gone to CAS on appeal regarding their bans

        Atletico - Rejected
        Barcelona - Rejected
        Real Madrid - Reduced ban

Still think there's a good chance it will be delayed, question is how quickly can Chelsea get it through CAS - obviously they'll push it as hard as possible.
