Fantasy Football Scout league round-up

As we mentioned in our congratulatory message on Sunday evening, Fantasy Premier League world number one Adam Levy was also the winner of both of our FPL leagues.

There was little-to-no chance of anyone catching Adam in either league as we entered into Gameweek 38 but there was plenty of movement in the places directly below our champion, as we will discuss in our end-of-season review.

Fantasy Football Scout League

In our free-to-all league, Adam finished 70 points clear of runner-up Andrew Green.

Andrew leapt from fourth to second on the final day and finished third overall in the world, with his final-day captaincy of Sadio Mane helping him to a Gameweek 38 score of 78.

This wasn’t Andrew’s first ever top 1k finish, with our FFS league silver medallist having ranked 525th in 2012/13.

What our first two had in common was that they both used their Triple Captain chip in Double Gameweek 25, each manager successfully backing Sergio Aguero.

Jay Lovejoy and Tom Love both slipped a place in the above table on the final day but had similarly excellent seasons, ending 2018/19 in 12th and 14th place in the world.

Jay and Tom had identical chip strategies – Wildcard in Gameweek 17, Free Hit in Gameweek 32, Wildcard in Gameweek 34, Bench Boost in Gameweek 35 and Triple Captain in Gameweek 36 – and finished inside the top 1k for the first time.

Our Live Hall of Fame leader, Sean Tobin, finished 16th overall and fifth in our Fantasy Football Scout league, just seeing off the challenge of Omer Weisberg.

Sean had previously finished 923rd in 2014/15 and has four other top 5k finishes to his name.

The average scores of our top five meant that the Fantasy Football Scout league – renamed ‘Get Well Soon Joe’ earlier this week – finished the season as the world’s best (see below).

A very well done to those managers in particular.

Fantasy Football Scout Members’ League

Adam’s winning margin in our members’ league was a whopping 99 points, a sign of how dominant he has been this season given that runner-up
Tore Bjørheim finished a superb 18th in the world.

Tore, like Andrew Green in our free-to-all league, only took two points hits all season.

Both Tore and third-placed Conor Myers leapfrogged Isrightlad United, himself a Live Hall of Fame high-flyer, in Gameweek 38.

Tore and Conor each scored 73 points on the final day, with both captaining Manchester City assets and benefitting from the 15-point hauls of Sadio Mane and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Ted Wickman crept into fifth place on Sunday, despite a blank for captain Mohamed Salah.

All of our top five played their Free Hit in Gameweek 32, Wildcard in Gameweek 34 and Bench Boost in Gameweek 35.

Only nine points separated fifth and tenth, with Dino Papadopoulos just clinging on to a top ten finish.

Fabio Borges, third in our Live Hall of Fame coming into Gameweek 38, finished eighth in our members’ league and 95th in the world – that being his second successive top 1k finish.

Our members’ league was the third-best in the world this season based on the average scores of our top five – again, a big congratulations goes out to these managers.

Mods and Cons League

A special shout-out to Rotation’s Alter Ego, who finished top our mini-league for moderators and contributors.

Ted overhauled Mark Sutherns‘ 27-point lead on the final day, with his Gameweek 38 score of 87 points (eight of his 11 players registered a clean sheet and/or attacking returns) also propelling him inside the top 1k for the first time in 2018/19.

Ted ended with an overall rank of 633 and was the runner-up in our second FFS Cup competition of the year.

Beset by red flags going into Gameweek 38, Mark took an eight-point hit and ended up dropping out of the top 1,000 but added one more top 5k finish – his ninth overall – to his name after another excellent campaign.

Sky Sports FFScout League

Away from FPL, Andy Luckhurst was the winner of our Sky league.

Andy finished 11 points clear of runner-up Kieran O’Keefe and finished 12th on the overall leaderboard.

Kieran and Reyhan Iqbal, who finished second and third in our above league, were ranked 15th and 16th in the world in the Sky game.

Scout contributor Adam Hopcroft finished tenth in our Sky league and 53rd overall.

A very well done to our winners and to the managers who pushed them hard all season.

Plan for the next couple of months:

    1. See out an old save on FM2008:
    Ipswich
    07/08 Winner (Championship)
    08/09 8th (Prem)
09/10 Currently sitting pretty in 4th at Christmas...Europe beckons!

    2. Buy Football Manager 2019 and let it take over my life and cause strife with my wife (that rhymes pretty good haha)!

I'm not sure what FM is. But, before 8-10 years i used to play Fifa on manager mode. I love that thing tbh.
      Notable memories are:
      A. Purchasing & playing Fabrigas, Jesus Neves etc CAM OOP Center forwards 😛
95/100 for fabrigas in that role 😮
      B. Win every possible trophy for Manchester United.
      C. Finding a player called Amey with 99 for all skils like physicality, dribbling, power, pace etc. & Giving him jersey no. 7 @ Manchester United 😀

FM is Football Manager (was known as Championship Manager back in the late 90s early 00s before they left that name behind to start the FM brand). It's the ultimate football management experience, kicks Fifa into the shade. You'd love it I reckon mate 🙂

Me too, just the text flashing on screen and using your imagination was great back in the old CM days!
Think FM2008 is great and have played that more than any version as it's still simplistic enough but havent played the new ones with the 3D graphics at all yet. Tempted to purchase one soon as my friends say that recent versions are much better.

Was Doherty the biggest 'fake' bandwagon this season?

Although looking dangerous every game, he got no double digit score from gw8 to gw37 (except the dgw), and still nearly had increase in ownership every week. Will anyone pick him if he is priced 5.5 next season?

Depends on the pricing of others. 5.5m is likely and need more CS to be interested.

Well, he was the best buy for me this season, alongside Robbo in gw 7/8 & Taa in gw 34.
      Doherty @ 4.4 for gw 5-8 was insane !!

Doubt that they'll remove them - it keeps more people interested for longer. It's just a shame that the inevitable postponements and subsequent DGWs lead to the same chip blitz between GW32 and GW35.

They (especially) were a lot better when they fired their manager. Looking forward to see how they do. Settled in PL and I think we might use them to balance the books and fit in the big hitters.

Having been 'trolled' all season by Bournemouth players I thought I'd give it one last chance to catch one of their hauls and got Fraser in for GW38.

From 4 Bournemouth players (Brooks, Wilson, Fraser and King) this season I got a total of 26 points in 15 games with just one assist, will try to avoid them next season but no doubt succumb by GW3.

Looks like Man City could get banned from Champions League next season. Below article form New York Times is an interesting read. UEFA might need to make an example but it would get appealed all the way is my guess.

    https://www.nytimes.com/2019/05/13/sports/manchester-city-champions-league-uefa.html

Would have major effect on FPL though. Man City would be major favourites to win the PL again and without rotation we all might wish that we had more slots for Man City players.

      • 5 Years

Not a lot of rotation this season tbh. What there was didn’t seem to be driven by number of fixtures.

      37 - Foden
      38 - Mahrez

Someone like Gundogan is always going to get plenty of games but impossible to tell which - sane true with Dilva now

Sure, the rotation issue at Man city was maybe "over hyped" a bit, I agree on that. And the rotation does seem to be more a case of Pep not liking some players (Sane, Mahrez).

          1. McEwan
            • 14 Years

I think it was certainly over hyped. For the most part the constants around Ederson, Laporte, Sterling, Aguero(minutes managed but workable) were enough to work around. Going off that track, you are entering a risk reward situation. Likes of Sane, it you get on and get a couple of hauls, it’s hard to move on from that
