Is Wan-Bissaka worth £5.5m in FPL after United move?

Aaron Wan-Bissaka‘s (£5.5m) price increase in Fantasy Premier League is as eye-catching as the £50m move to Manchester United that followed in late June.

In 2018/19, Wan-Bissaka was the much-heralded budget defensive gem, starting 35 of Crystal Palace’s 38 matches and returning 120 FPL points over the course of the campaign.

Wan-Bissaka – who was priced at £4.0m in Gameweek 1 of last season – was on the pitch for all 12 of the Eagles’ clean sheets, while he racked up 18 bonus points to compensate for a lack of attacking returns (no goals, three assists).

A year is a long time in FPL.

Championed for his value for money (26.1 points per million spent) last season, there has been something of a backlash against his price rise this summer.

Still, that hasn’t stopped over one in three FPL managers from drafting Wan-Bissaka into their initial squads.

Virgil van Dijk (£6.5m) and Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) are the only two defenders who are proving more popular in FPL at the time of writing.

As we have said before, that 34.1% ownership can perhaps be explained by a number of factors – a nostalgia for his returns in 2018/19, a move to a ‘big six’ club and a higher rate of so-called casuals playing the game at this stage of the year.

We shouldn’t just ignore those FPL managers who have acquired him, though, as there is much to admire about Wan-Bissaka’s game.

Whether there is enough to warrant a price rise to £5.5m is something we’ll be exploring in the Members’ article below.

AWB looks great in that strip - but there again Benteke did too! Perhaps he’ll get to look good again once United have ruined him as per Wilf

Personally, I'm staying away from Cherries defence?

Awful use of a question mark, sorry.

Also, I had forgotten about Diego Rico, who is a straw at which I am clutching in a vain effort to adjust other parts of my team.

Just wondering if people added their last season's OR would provide more valuable info? Finished around 930 OR last season. Here's my current team (but will change as the season draws nearer).

    Heaton
    TAA Robbo Laporte
El Ghazi Sterling Salah Richarlison Perez
    Wesley King

    Subs:
    Button Coleman Kelly Greenwood

Of course would like others to pick apart my current team.

    Notes:
    I like Villa's start, plus I'm a Villa fan.
Perez/Leicester will do well - banking on holding strong against Man U/Spurs/Chelsea

People add their OR during the season, means little tbh unless a big number and want to take more risks. May as well use HoF as it's a new season.

Not for me, but still a good tean nonetheless.
Questions asked over El Ghazi's consistency. Iffy on him.
Perez, if he starts and hits the ground running, is an excellent asset. Probably the standout at 6.5 midfielders.
I'd play Coleman over ElGhazi, obviously, but ofc team bias is team bias, what can you do.

Like Rich and Pérez combo. Agree on Heaton/Pope. Bit uncertain of Coleman on the bench - I’d go Holebas as reserve.

El Ghazi and Wesley? Dunno. Don’t see them as worth Sterling and Mo.

Laporte I’m doubting for value. He was a late season wonder and lucky second wc call for me. Feels like an expensive cs - even then City became cs wonders late season in the run in.

On my watchlist. Think plenty could usefully save 0.5 on Zaha that way. Brighton are likely to be more useful in attack than defence this season - contrast with Palace who have lost Bats who boosted Zaha and was brilliant value in himself.

30m to spend on just Man City, Liverpool, Everton & Bournemouth defenders.

    Currently on the below:-
    Coleman Smith VVD Laporte Robbo

But would you swap any to likes of Mendy, Walker, TAA, Keane, Digne or Ake?
