Is it worth paying extra to have Jiménez over Jota?

Fantasy Premier League managers may have a tough decision when considering Wolves’ attacking options in 2018/19.

A price hike for Raúl Jiménez (£7.5m) has put clear daylight between him and colleague Diogo Jota (£6.5m).

Despite the latter’s switch from midfield to the forward department, his offer of a £1.0m saving is certainly enticing.

In this latest members article, requested by readers on site and social media, we will compare Wolves’ two central strikers to assess which is the better option for our Fantasy teams.

As this uses data taken from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for 2019/20 can access the bulk of the article.

Selecting the right period for comparison

Wolves changed their formation to a 3-5-2 in Gameweek 15.

On the surface, it’s hard to look past Jiménez given that he outscored Jota across the 2018/19 season.

The Mexican recorded a final total of 181 points compared his Portuguese colleague’s 139.

That is probably why Jiménez is, by a long way, the more popular of the two following the release of the 2019/20 game.

In fact, currently sat in 42.7% the former Benfica man is the most fashionable asset in any position.

Obviously, his price means that auto-pick selections will still be influencing that figure, and it has dropped slightly from the 43.5% he was at on July 5.

However, to suggest either his 2018/19 score or early 2019/20 popularity are cause to back Jiménez over Jota would be somewhat naïve.

The 6.5 is a tad heavy for some. I think he's useful and can be edged down to LB if one becomes nailed.

That last bit about Mendy is key. If he stays healthy there's every chance he starts or at least rotates with Zinchenko.

Hey WR, feels strange picking a squad this year when there’s barely any strikers screaming to be selected. All the key players seem to be priced 6-8m too, so I think that’s causing teams to be quite different yet not punty.

    Heaton
    Robertson, Digne, Laporte
    Salah, Sterling, Siggy, Zaha
    Vardy, King

I like that but, unfortunately, the 11th player is a rotation of Dendoncker, Greenwood, Gibson and Kelly.

Should there be a downgrade somewhere?

Need a better 11th. I'd downgrade one or more of the defenders. VvD, Walker and Coleman are good alternatives for less money.

Who's the best 7m mid to start with? I'd like to have someone at that price point because there's a plethora of options to switch to if someone hits form (Zaha, Felipe Anderson, Maddison) or seems to be first choice (Willian/Pedro depending on who Lampard likes, maybe even Sanchez if Ole gives him another chance).

I'm on Zaha atm so yeah I'd agree he's the easy one. Not too keen on the Leicester boys tbh. Some difficult fixtures which may suit Vardy but not sure how well the mids will do. I guess someone has to provide the assists though. If Fraser was 7m he'd be in. Can't quite stretch to 7.5.

If he looks likely to start GW1 for them then yeah probably. Their first two fixtures are good.

I'm starting to wonder if he'll be ready for GW1 regardless of which team he's playing for since he's still at AFCON with Ivory Coast.

Hi guys gone for abit of a gamble. Is it too risky? Have two subs who play which is why I like it and a lot of coverage on big teams.

    Ederson
    VVD, Digne, Robertson
    Mane, KDB, Richarlison, Zaha, Pereyra
    Vardy, King

    Button, A Smith, Kelly, Wickham

Sorry but I don't like it. It's hardly balanced when it has five defs and only one forward. Tbh it's hard to see where the money has gone with so many week links and not even got Sterling. I don't expect much from Grealish and Kodjia is far from certain to start so you may only have one sub.

I've got Maddison in at the moment but Tielemans has been on my 'most wanted' list since the end of last season.

You're probably both right with $7.0m, but you never know... $0.5m in the bank would be a nice insurance policy for those $0.1m price rises on the early season bolters!

You won't make money from any keepers all season. If they rise (which doesn't happen often) it's because they must be getting bought by a lot of people so you are unlikely to want to sell anyway. His job is to make sure you have a keeper if Ryan gets injure, suspended or dropped

Np. Also be aware that a player has to rise twice to gain .2m but you can only sell him for .1m

So if you have a player you bought for 5m and he rises to 5.2m you can only sell him for 5.1m.
If he rises to 5.1m you can only sell him for 5m

Focusing too much on price rises it sounds like. Best way to get price rises is have players in that do well, which therefore make other transfer in, which causes the price rise.

Forget price rises at this stage, nobody knows. The players who get off to a flyer will rise, the ones who have a mare or don't play will drop. Just concentrate on getting a good team and prices will look after themselves.

Team looks decent, I'm assuming 4-3-3?

Does having low ownership or high ownership make a difference?

low ownership will make the players price go up or down quicker

Maddison and Tielemens should be good under Rodgers this year. Fraser at 7.5 is also a great option.

Siggy at 8 isn't UNDER 8m. I've pencilled in whoever out of Zaha or Fraser goes to Arsenal. I'm also waiting on Tielemans at hopefully 7 or 7.5, but Maddy at 7 is a good 'un too.

How VAR effect the no of penalties ratio in comparison with previous season in other league last season?

    1. Clintymints

Read something a while ago about the Bundesliga after it introduced VAR and there wasn't actually too much difference with penalties

    2. Norman Conquest

Economist looked at the six countries that have introduced the VAR system for all games in their domestic leagues—Germany, Italy, Portugal, America, Australia and South Korea—we found no evidence of a spike in penalties. That suggests that for every extra spot kick that the VAR has spotted, there is another that he has cancelled

I watch atleast 3 games of A-league every weekend when in season (sad but yeah).

Feels like Var effects every single game (alot of the players are muppets) and there is atleast a penalty given per week with Var and thats with only 5 games.

Are we fairly confident Jorginho will be on pens and nailed under frank? Have tinkered to include Kane and Vardy without removing Salah Wilson vvd taa and coleman. Kinda need a 5.0

Just get a 4.5 and spend elsewhere

Didn't fancy him under Sarri and don't fancy him with Frank

RLC and Barkley will be better picks under Frank

Going for double Merseyside defence, until another viable option becomes available. Plan to dip into the 6.5 forwards pool of Jota, Wood ect.

    Pope,
    Robbo, VVD, Digne, Coleman
    Siggy, Salah, Sterling, Lucas
    King, Deeney

    Ryan, Dendoncker, Kelly/fodder, Wickahm

same as my midfield (look below) so like it. I'm going for Deulofeu instead of Deeney but could work out

Yeah Moura is going under the radar a bit. Leaning towards Deeney for PK's due to the introduction of VAR, but could switch. Pope not nailed but very likely to start ahead of Heaton. Heaton also linked with Villa so that could be one to watch.

Leno! Arsenal are allergic to clean sheets.
Taylor - place under threat from new signing Pieters.
Norwood - just bench fodder, yeh?
Origi - maybe one week if Mane or Firmino gets a rest.

Not sure about Zinchenko being a guaranteed starter and I'm leery of Zaha, given Ivory Coast is into the semis of the African Nations Cup. Could be a late starter. Really like the budget striker concept; matches my philosophy.

Despite a mixed start, Leicester look the real deal this coming season, at least their forward line. Should we be trying to include one or more of the likes of Pérez, Maddison and or Vardy?

Vardy is the player I’m most scared about not owning. I just can’t seem to fit him into any team structure - his price is quite awkward.

    A) Zaha, Jorginho (sub) & Long (sub)
    or
    b) King, Grealish, & Stephens (sub)
