Is it worth paying extra to have Jiménez over Jota?

Fantasy Premier League managers may have a tough decision when considering Wolves’ attacking options in 2018/19.

A price hike for Raúl Jiménez (£7.5m) has put clear daylight between him and colleague Diogo Jota (£6.5m).

Despite the latter’s switch from midfield to the forward department, his offer of a £1.0m saving is certainly enticing.

In this latest members article, requested by readers on site and social media, we will compare Wolves’ two central strikers to assess which is the better option for our Fantasy teams.

As this uses data taken from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for 2019/20 can access the bulk of the article.

Selecting the right period for comparison

Wolves changed their formation to a 3-5-2 in Gameweek 15.

On the surface, it’s hard to look past Jiménez given that he outscored Jota across the 2018/19 season.

The Mexican recorded a final total of 181 points compared his Portuguese colleague’s 139.

That is probably why Jiménez is, by a long way, the more popular of the two following the release of the 2019/20 game.

In fact, currently sat in 42.7% the former Benfica man is the most fashionable asset in any position.

Obviously, his price means that auto-pick selections will still be influencing that figure, and it has dropped slightly from the 43.5% he was at on July 5.

However, to suggest either his 2018/19 score or early 2019/20 popularity are cause to back Jiménez over Jota would be somewhat naïve.

I can't stress enough how amazing it will be to own O'Connell for Sheffield United home games. You will need to rotate him though.

I want Dean Henderson perma keeper all season -reckon a lot of teams will have difficulty scoring against sheff Utd at home, and away he should hopefully rack up saves

Sheffield will be tough to score against I agree. Also, the way their CBs attack is magnificent to watch. Had fully expected O'Connell to be priced up with Stevens.. Seeing him at 4.5 is just brilliant. 4.5 for a very attacking defender from open play who is the main set piece threat in a pretty resolute defense (though untested in the epl) looks a bargain. Can see their tactics confusing teams for the first few games at least.. Maybe they'll be found out soon.. Either way I want to play O'Connell for CRY LEI SOU and I've found a way to do so. Expecting a 15 pointer in one of those along with a huge price hike 🙂

You think? Their defensive system sounds really exciting, but it hasn't been tested by PL-quality players. I need to see it in action before committing myself to any Blades defenders.

Can see it being difficult for trams to cope with at the season start. Risky though.. Hence why I'm limiting my exposure to just oconnell and that too for just the home games.

Im currently going with Perez and King.. With O'Connell on the bench. Oconnell coming on gw 2, 3 and 5 for Perez(Che), King(MCY), Perez(mun). Works perfectly for me since I basically get a blue set of fixtures for perez and King by doing so lol

    Anyone else considering going with
    TAA VVD Robertson
    Sterling(c/vc)
    Kane(c/vc)

The 3 pool defenders are arguable the best fpl defenders to own and Kane and Sterling captaincy rotation for the first 12 are AVL TOT NEW BHA WAT CPL SOU WOL WAT AVL SOU SHU. Considering you want to captain your premiums its doesn't get much better than that at just 23 million plus you get the benefit of the 3 best fpl defenders in the game

Yeh, it's good. I had those 3 Pool defenders when I thought Salah might not start GW1. But Egypt's elimination has changed my premise. I'd prefer Salah to Kane or any other premium forward, personally.

Same. Would prefer Salah over Kane any day.. However, the compromise with Kane saves me 1.5 million, gets me 3 pool defenders and gives me an amazing captaincy rotation with Sterling :).. Risky but it could work.

          Over the year, yes.

These are great moves looking at the whole season but you are only looking at the first few GW’s especially with an early WC likely to be used after we get a few games of sample size.

If Liverpool concede in 2/4 and Salah has two 12+ hauls it could be quite ugly for you.

Could definitely work but keep in mind the short term results rather than the long term.

Very temping but also easy to see Salah bagging a hat-trick against Norwich on the first day, while Kane does his usual August thing and Sterling gets rested a couple of times, so you'd be playing catch up all season.

Difficult to say. I think TAA has matured a lot over the season and is good for loads of assists this season. I think VVD started to get up and score more headers as the season went on, so I can see both moving forward, whereas I feel it's more likely Robbo will stand still. The three of them will be the highest scoring defenders in the league, all top value though.

I thought of this myself and agree.

My thought process is also that by owning TAA and VVD, if VVD scores then it’s going to be TAA assisting him. So at least by owning those two your doubling up on your attacking returns when VVD bags.

Anybody considering the 5.0 keepers? Fabianski only scored 2 points less than Lloris and he beat Kepa. Guaita would have been up there too if he had played all season. 5.0-4.0 isn't excessive for keepers, the same amount as the preferred method of previous seasons (4.5-4/5).

I think it's the worst price bracket. Go cheap and get a 4.5 or go big and get Ed/Al/Pick. Can't see the added value in any 5s.

        • 5 Years

That seems to be the consensus and I was blindly following, but Fabianski got 20 points less than Pickford who costs 0.5 more and 40 points more than Ryan for costs 0.5 less. I know that Ryan missed some games but also he has a more attacking manager this season so I doubt his points tally will be too much higher. We will see, just something I will bare in mind rather than dismissing the 5.0s completely.

According to the Daily Mail but not confirmed by Spurs themselves no? I can’t see Spurs selling Trippier with Aurier injured unless they sign Sessegnon (which will signal his exit from team and being replaced by either Zinchenko if he looks like a starter in pre season or Coleman).

I don’t really like the mid priced mids so I’d need at least £2.5m from somewhere to get Zaha (or more for Siggy). That would mean significantly downgrading one/two defenders which I’m not keen to do.

I don't like 5 at the back. Midfielders get the most points historically so only having 2 is an issue. Get at least 1 mid-priced option, allowing you to jump on whoever is on form from that bracket.

Spurs are away to City, Arsenal and Leicester in 1st 6 GWs so don't like Trippier pick.
You only have Vardy as a guaranteed penalty taker (Milner and Wilson could be 1st choice), and you seriously lack set piece takers in general which are a big source of points.
Fire and forgot on Heaton is mental considering they are away to Arsenal and Wolves, and also play Liverpool in 1st 4 GWs.

I would remove Trippier for bench fodder and try to upgrade GK and a forward.

Tielemans price predictions? 4,8 points per game during his 13 games he played last season (63 points).

Comparable to Fraser at 7.5m (4.8ppg), Siggy 8.0m (4,8ppg), Mili 7.0m (4,4ppg), Maddison from Leicester only 3,8ppg but priced at 7.0.

I'd say 7m/7.5m, 6.5 would be underpriced and 8.0 overpriced.

Thanks, the idea was to rotate him with Diop but I’m not massively keen on him either. Tempted for one of the Burnley keepers if I loose ederson

Pjanns followed my posts. Rich started with a bang last two seasons and completely tailed off around GW16. Logic dictates start with and monitor

Can't see City getting more than 1 clean sheet in opening 3 so would avoid Ederson early doors.
Dunk as a GW1 starter (away to Watford)? no thanks.
    Can't see Perez playing 90mins.
    Prefer Siggy to Richarlison.

I currently have King but will get rid if Wilson takes over penalty duty.

People underestimating Villa at their peril. Pay close attention to pre season

Miss will always be more difficult. Zaha to watchlist for me with uncertainties around him. Realistically would you rather have a TAA or Robbo at the same price?

    VAR = PK?
If yes, I will pick 5 pk takers to my team.
    Salah, Kun, Siggy, King, Jimenez.
So i give up Stetling, Zaha, Jota.......

in theory yes - however should also benefit the skilful dribblers like Sterling & Zaha who draw fouls in the box with assists

    RMT (5-4-1)
    Pickford
    Robbo/TAA/Walker/Zinch/Coleman
    Salah/Sterling/Tielemans/Zaha
    Wilson

    Bench: all 4.0-4.5 fodder

    Hello world

    Ryan (Krul)

    TAA Laporte VVD Digne (Kelly)
    Brooks Salah Sterling Sigurdsson Tielemans
    King (Greenwood Xande)

Any thoughts on a better combination on my 3 medium priced options: Tielemans, King and Brooks?

      Hi,
like the fact you have Salah and Sterling but not convinced at all by attack. I can see you invest a lot in def maybe there is a potential to downgrade and upgrade attack?

    Hi Guys,

    RMT please:

    Ryan (Button)
    TAA Coleman Walker (4.0, 4.0)
    Salah Zaha Maddison BSilva (4.5)
    Aguero Jimenez King

Still not sure about Aguero. I am thinking about switching BSilva to Sterling and replace Aguero but there is no proper option in such price and I don't feel confident without premium stiker. Any advices?

I can save some money switching TAA to VVD (0.5) and Jimenez to Jota (1.0) then I can afford Vardy.

    Thanks!

While we're at it, is there any striker option below 6.5 but above the 4.5 bench fodder mark that sounds reasonable?
