Is it time to sell Barnes as Wood hits form for Burnley?

Ashley Barnes (£6.6m) has now gone four consecutive matches without an attacking return.

With so many blanks in a row, his owners are likely looking at whether they should be offloading the Burnley forward ahead Gameweek 8.

That said, the Clarets do face another favourable fixture this weekend as Everton come to Turf Moor. The Toffees have conceded at least twice in each of their last five matches.

However, the complicating factor in assessing Barnes’ potential is the recent form of Chris Wood (£6.2m).

Since the former Brighton and Plymouth Argyle striker last found the net, Wood has scored three times.

Is that a trend that will continue in Gameweek 8? We’ve assessed some of the most recent matches to find out whether Barnes is worth holding or if his colleague Wood is hogging the spoils at Burnley.

As this article uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those who have signed up for the 2019/20 season can access it in full.

Has Barnes been unfortunate not to score recently?

If you had the luxury of having 2 fts and the only other option was to burn it..would you swap Barnes to Wood? Saves cash and gets the current in form player

He looks a fantastic player. However, looks more of an enabler for yarmo and Anderson etc than an all out goalscorer himself. Also west ham just haven't been creating enough chances for him.. Especially from the wing(he gets into amazing positions and noone gives him the ball) .. So he tends to drop a bit deeper and create chances for those aforementioned players to cut in and shoot instead.

Agreed. I may join you with haller. Feels weird going Barnes to wood and don't need the cash anyway. Couple of assists and a goal in the next 4 a good possibility for haller I guess.

BTW the original tweet according to the city forums said this:

PEP (On @DeBruyneKev's injury) It's not serious. Today he could not play. We will see for next Sunday but right now I don't know (whether he will play this weekend). After international break, he will be fit

There was no "think" in the original quote. It looks its been added in later lol.

I wouldn't. He rested Sterling once and then played him twice thereafter. Looks to me KDB, Sterling and Aguero are all his first choice, but with the wealth of attacking options Pep has to rotate somewhat to keep his squad fresh.

With City 5 points behind Pool, My guess is he will play them if he can before the international break.

David Silva has started most of the games already on the other side of the midfield, I would think De Bruyne being out would let Bernardo drop into the midfield at times whilst also being part of the wide attacker rotation with Sterling and Mahrez. There should be more games for Gündogan too.

Thinking of KDB out, get him back as soon as he start full 90 minutes again (whenever that may be) or keep him and ride the storm with Cantwell starting every match till KDB is fit 🙁

    So two options here

Keep KDB, play Cantwell till KDB is fit again and do Kun to Auba FT for GW8

    Or

KDB to Sterling, Kun to Auba and Firmino to King for -8 before GW8 deadline.

I actually think King has turned the corner and IMO more value at his price compared to Wilson. I expect him to get points vs Arsenal defence.

Following week I will do Aurier to Robbo for free leaving me with

    Pope Button
    TAA Robbo Lund Dunk Rico
    Salah Sterling McGinn Mount Cantwell
    King Auba Pukki

    My finger is twitching...

I think so. Maybe a draw or close win for Livp. Leic will score I reckon.

Possibly, if you consider their performance over 10 man Newcastle more than their performance against a dross Man U.

        Are we ignoring Pukki (c)?

He has hauled every home game so far

If I didn't have Auba and Sterling I would be considering it

        Pope, (Button)
        TAA, Otamendi, Digne, (Lundstram, Soyuncu)
        KDB, Salah, Sterling, James, Cantwell
        Abraham, Pukki, (Greenwood)

        0.8m ITB, 1 FT

If KDB is confirmed out ?

        A) Save and play Lundstram
        B) James to Mount or Yarmolenko (play Lundstram)
        C) KDB and Abraham to Mount and Auba (for a hit)

Lundstram entering the NBNC category. Would start him in every game except Manc and Pool.
