Captain Poll

Man City assets among the attractive Gameweek 10 captaincy options

There was more armband misery for many of us in Gameweek 9, with the highest score among the top ten most-captained Fantasy Premier League assets being Raheem Sterling‘s (£12.1m) modest five points.

Coupled with no-shows and blanks from several other high-profile captaincy options, it was another weekend to forget in this difficult opening quarter to the 2019/20 campaign.

Sterling will be one of a handful of Manchester City assets expected to feature prominently in our latest captain poll, which is now live in the article below and on our homepage.

Pep Guardiola’s side take on Aston Villa at home in the Saturday lunchtime kick-off, with this being the first of two successive league matches that City enjoy at the Etihad.

Many of us will be waiting on Guardiola’s team selection for the Atalanta game on Tuesday, of course, with rotation a possible concern for Gameweek 10.

Ederson (£6.1m), indeed, is City’s only ever-present this season.

Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne‘s (£10.1m) owners will be yearning for more luck than they got at Crystal Palace last Saturday, while those of us who have Sergio Aguero (£12.2m) or Riyad Mahrez (£8.7m) in our squads will hope to see their assets back in the starting XI following their benchings in Gameweek 9.

The dreaded one-pointer off the bench, of course, is always a worry with Guardiola.

We ought to give a mention to David Silva (£7.6m), too, who can boast more double-digit hauls than any Premier League player this season.

Aside from City, Arsenal are back on home soil after their latest away-day struggles at Sheffield United.

The Gunners are unbeaten at the Emirates this season, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.1m) only blanking in one of their four home fixtures – although he is yet to deliver a double-digit haul in north London.

Two of the more free-scoring teams this season have trickier games on paper.

Chelsea are away at a Burnley side who have performed well in the opening two months, while Liverpool entertain a Tottenham Hotspur team who have already salvaged draws at Manchester City and Arsenal.

Spurs, of course, are in a fairly dire way at the moment, taking only one point from matches against Brighton and Watford and shipping seven goals in their recent Champions League tie with Bayern Munich.

Owners of Sadio Mane (£11.8m), Mohamed Salah (£12.4m) – if fit – and Roberto Firmino (£9.6m) may well fancy their prospects of an attacking return or two against Mauricio Pochettino’s below-par side, particularly as Liverpool average three goals per league game at Anfield this season.

Chelsea, meanwhile, have been more prolific on the road: 12 of their 19 league goals have been scored in their last three away fixtures.

Mason Mount (£6.8m) and Tammy Abraham (£7.8m) have delivered attacking returns in all three of those matches.

Bournemouth and Manchester United face appealing trips to Watford and Norwich City respectively, although the bad news for owners of Callum Wilson (£8.0m), Marcus Rashford (£8.4m) et al is that these two previously porous clubs showed a bit more defensive resilience in Gameweek 9.

Still, the Hornets and the Canaries have shipped a league-high 21 goals each in 2019/20.

You can now vote in the latest captain poll on our website, either below or in the sidebar on the right.

Joe and Neale will be having more captain-led discussion in our weekly video, which you can watch on our YouTube channel from 12:45 pm on Tuesday.

He seems to be staying more out wide without Sane in the team and not getting as often close to goal for tap ins.

    Pope,

    TAA, Lundstram, Otamendi, Soyuncu

    Salah, KDB, Sterling, Mount

    Vardy, Wilson.

    Bench: Button, Connolly, Cantwell, Reid.

    On WC, any suggestions?

fancy tammy or jimenez instead of wilson but i've had him all season and seems risky to take him out with the watford game coming up.

Pukki to Maupay worth a hit?

Brighton have 3 homes games in the next 4 (EVE, NOR, mun, LEI) where they have been a strong attacking unit.

Maupay also has good stats. Has more shots, shots in the box and on target last 4 matches than alot of other popular premium players.

My patience approach is starting to pay off (slightly) but this week I feel like KDB is a must have - got very lucky being a non owner this week IMO.

How would you advise getting him in?

    Button/Pope
    Rico/Soy/TAA/OTA/Lundy
    Salah/Sterling/James/Cantwell/Mount
    4.4/ Aguero/Tammy

    1FT

    A) Sterling > KDB (C) probably an unpopular one but can do this for free

    B) Salah and Ota > KDB and Boly -4

    C) Save and roll a transfer
    D) Any other suggestions

If I remember, Howe said they had "a couple of issues" with returning IB players. guess he could've been one of them.

Good option if he plays but H. Wilson, Solanke, Fraser and Danjuma are all vying for the attacking places alongside Wilson so I don't think i'd keep beyond this GW.

City triple for the next two? Aguero, Mahrez and KDB (already have Kun and Mahrez, will somehow bring KDB in)
    This is the team:

    Pope
    TAA, Otamendi, Lund
    Salah, Mahrez, Mount, Yarmo
    Aguero, Tammy, Wilson

Button, Soy, Rico, Cantwell 1FT, £0.4ITB
Thinking of doing Salah, Otamendi to KDB, Tomori. I can then spend the rest of the money elsewhere.
    Any help appreciated.

      Hi Andre,

You've the same predicament as me ha! Thinking exact same move as you although would be Boly over Tomori!

My only worry Is Salah against a ropey spurs defense! He scored x2 against them season before last at home too! Doesn't mean a great deal admittedly but I find it worrying!

I'd be tempted to upgrade Mahrez to KDB at least you eliminate one benching headache that way!

Rícó & Lundstram have been some double act :

GW6 autosub in for Sterling & Kelly - 17 points
GW9 autosub in for Salah & Ota - 14 points

Always have a bench kids, you never know when it'll come in handy

I actually (generally) don't consider FPL to be an effort at all, but rather enjoy the process of identifying, targeting and selecting players with good potential, regardless of their price tags and the roles they might play in an FPL squad 😉

The good thing is there's rarely (DGW's aside maybe) a single season defining gameweek - City could win 8-0 again and Kun could get 7 points again from it similar to Norwich ( or it could be Sterling's turn, or someone elses etc)

Lovely fixtures though, no doubts there - I just wonder how champs league & their centre back situation will affect things

Is he the kind of player that needs a couple of games to get back into the groove after a few weeks out it he can hit the ground running?

In his Liverpool career (84 league games) He's only ever gone more than 1 game without an attacking return on 7 occasions

5 of those were simple 5 game droughts, all ended with a goal in the following game... The 6th was a 5 game drought from 27-31 last year which he ended with 5 goals and 3 assists in the following 6 games

This is his 7th such spell so I'm fascinated to see how it ends 🙂

Slapping the armband on Salah Permanently should do the job, underlying stats are there, VC Sterling

Sterling is more threatening when kdb plays...so I guess if both starts this gw,sterling dry run may come to an end..

Sterling could've easily scored 20 points in that game.

He's more threatening if Mendy plays as he doesn't get stuck out on the left wing, see last game for evidence.

    Considering a switch....

    Aubameyang > Rashford
    Son > Mane

    Thoughts?

Prefer Rashford myself. Had Martial for one week and he then got injured.

Sterling/Pukki>KDB/Vardy - Yes or No? Only other City is Dilva.

Yep. Might have to take a few Sterling hauls on the chin but worth it overall.

Thanks. Yeah could go either way between Sterling & KDB but Vardy better than Pukki.
