With only six fixtures to choose from this week, the Premier League has decided to give Mike Dean the day off. Another of our favourites, Lee Mason, is also out of action, setting the stage for spot-kick obsessive Jon Moss as the man most likely to make waves from the Gameweek 34 schedule…

Jon Moss

Never afraid to court controversy, Moss is streets ahead of any other whistler when it comes to dishing out spot-kicks. He’s been the man in the middle just nine times so far, yet has awarded seven penalties – an average of 0.78 per game. Given that Dean is next best with 0.46 spot-kicks awards per game, Moss’ previous in the art of penalty-giving should set off alarm bells ahead of his next match at the Hawthorns tomorrow, when West Brom entertain QPR.

For the hosts, this could be good news for Chris Brunt, then. The Irishman has recovered from a knee problem and is set to return tomorrow, though should he only make the bench, Peter Odemwingie is available to step up. Should Moss revert to type. Bobby Zamora’s Fantasy owners could also receive a timely boost, though if the former Fulham man fails to recover from the knock picked up against Swansea in midweek, Adel Taarabt is next in line to benefit for Mark Hughes’ outfit as they go in search of a crucial away win.

Andre Marriner

His love affair with yellow cards looks set to continue at the Emirates on Monday evening. So far this season, Marriner is fourth top for cautions per match, dishing out an average of 3.59 yellows over his 17 games to date. Potentially, Wigan could suffer more than Arsenal from Marriner’s penchant for flashing the cards – the Latics have been the second most culpable side for fouls conceded this term, with only Everton making more.

Marriner’s no-nonsense approach has also seen his hand out three straight reds (second only to Martin Atkinson) in addition to a couple of further dismissals for two yellow cards. The likes of Gary Caldwell, James McCarthy and Maynor Figueroa are the likeliest culprits from the away side, while with Laurent Koscielny serving a two-match ban for picking up 10 bookings, Alex Song could be in Marriner’s sights.

Interestingly, Roberto Martinez’s side are also second top when it comes to giving away penalties, with a total of eight beaten only by Newcastle’s nine. Marriner, however, seems to be somewhat shy in this respect – he has pointed to the spot just twice this season. Clearly, Mike Dean needs to have a word.

Neil Swarbrick

Finally, we turn our attentions to the match at the Stadium of Light, where Sunderland entertain basement-dwellers Wolves. In terms of dismissals per match, Swarbrick’s stats are joint-top for referees; in just 10 matches, he has handed out three straight reds, an average of 0.3 per game – Mike Dean has dished out the same number over a total of 26 games.

Wolves should be most wary. They’ve picked up a couple of reds in the last five Gameweeks and, with Karl Henry back in the first-team, Swarbrick could be up to his old tricks tomorrow afternoon. Martin O’Neill, on the other hand, may well be hoping Lee Cattermole misses out for this one, with the Black Cats skipper currently a doubt after picking up a knock in the 4-0 loss at Everton.

Paul Is certain he won't make the same mistakes next season. Follow them on Twitter

Reasons to (C) RVP for me:

I support Wigan. If RVP doesn't score, hopefully only Walcott will who I have too.
If they indeed don't Wigan could grab a draw or even another fantastic win.

If they score, I'm happy Fantasy wise...and Wigan are still staying up anyway 😉

Plus it's the last game...always makes it more exciting 😀

I imagine he's fully capable, given the run Arsenal are on, plus they're at home...then again the same could have been said about when we played Man U 😀

I'm just going to watch the match and hopefully enjoy our continued form and playing, if we get anything it's a fantastic bonus. 🙂

Going with RVP too. I think Arsenal will get a result on Monday at home, I'm afraid, Kirby.

I'd consider him too, only got McClean as Sunderland attacking and despite being against Wolves, I feel he's too unsafe to risk over likes or RVP or even Rooney.

Protecting a 27 point lead, however guy below me can only field a maximum of 9 without hits, whereas I'm fielding 11 without any.

Best to play safe, I guess 🙂

I'm sort of banking on it. Got only nine starters, so a GW average in the 20s would be bloody marvellous.

If Rooney and Co go bananas, and the average is 50-plus, I'll be going down faster than a Salford hooker.

Guys, I'm trying to get my head around the DGW. Any suggestions are very welcome.

For GW 34 I currently have 11 playing:

    Mignolet (Krul)

    Verm Evans Caulker Kompany (BAE)

    Siggy Valencia Walcott Sess (Dempsey)

    RVP Rooney (Cisse)

    For GW 35 I’m going Walcott>Bale and Verm>Baines. (4 point hit)

    For GW 36 I’m going Rooney>Ade and Sess>HBA. (4 point hit)

That will give me 8 DGW players playing twice, Cisse, Ade, HBA, Bale, Dempsey, Baines, BAE, and Krul.

    Good plan?

Looks a lot like my plan. Except take the all the hits at once pre GW36. Baines is playing Man United GW35. No point getting him unless you fear a price rise.

Spliting the hits makes it more palatable. 🙂

GW 35 defence will be Kompany, Evans, BAE. Baines will be benched. Not worried about rises, I have more than I can spend!

True. Depending on the FA cup results Im also considering doing:

          Walcott --> Bale + Kompany --> Baines
          +
          Valencia --> Pienaar + Evans --> Huth

Two hits for two defenders doesnt look right, so maybe Rooney to Ade is the right thing to do instead of Huth.

I did consider Huth but, like you, I don't want to take a second hit for another defender. Everton's value is in defence, so I discounted Pienaar. They don't score enough goals.

You know, i have a feeling Wolves are not going to be the push over everyone thinks this week.
And if the rumours about Sess being unsettled at Sunderland are true, then this game could be a hard one to call.
McClean does well when Sess is on form.

Had a major stupid moment and posted this in the scout picks, long day.
Happy with 10 players. Would need a 4 pointer to sell either a defender, Dempsey or Cisse. Can’t see any sense in taking a hit for a defender and to cell either of Dempsey or Cisse just for one GW (and losing plenty of money in the process) doesn’t seem like that inspired an idea! Then again, this could be my undoing 😉

Not tempted by the Roo pig? After the acid that Fergie's been spitting all week I reckon they'll want to hammer Villa, who aren't exactly leak proof. Wigan will be fairly boosted by their win at United and have shown that they can perform very strongly against the bigger teams in the past while.

I want to get in a city or Arsenal defender and I fancy Sagna or Richards to sneak an assist this week.

I am leaning towards Richards, but worried he may be replaced by a more defensive approach by Mancini(Zabaleta probly) this week.

Then there is the issue of Sagna, where I can see Wigan score after their performance against United, plus the difficult fixture in gameweek 35 against Chelsea.

    Any opinions on this?

Neither have great fixtures, so if you're going for one of their defenders you'd go for someone with some attacking threat - Sagna's not a bad shout, but 2 assists in 10 starts since his return isn't as good as his potential. Get Verm if you can afford him.

Wish I could afford Verm, but he is out of my reach, and so is Kompany. I think out of all of them, they will most likely score the highest 🙁

just been bored (or sad) enough to take a gander at the last 32 teams for the fpl cup. Some unbelievable rankings still in there, the highest I noticed was one guy about 660,000 in the world (and playing since GW1).

Just goes to show how flukey these h2h's can be
