Eight gameweek’s later and here we are, the final of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup III, sponsored by Paddy Power. From over 1300 entrants just two remain, with “tippman” and “gooner dave” hoping to follow the likes of donnellyc and Jonty into our Hall of Fame.

Let’s take a look at the fantasy squads at the disposal of both our finalists going into the weekend…

tippman – Overall Rank: 4,759th, Squad Value: £102.6M

As is stands, tippman has nine of his squad playing away from home this weekend, and one major injury doubt in Rafael Van der Vaart. It looks likely therefore that selection and transfer decisions will be pivotal to his success this week.

gooner dave – Overall Rank: 2,516th, Squad Value: £104.9M

As for gooner dave, he has just six playing away from home, as well as Rafael Van der Vaart. But when you consider three of those six face West Brom, it perhaps isn’t too big a worry.

The main sources of talking points are when you compare both teams. Looking at the goalkeeping situation, it’s probably gooner dave that has a slight advantage. Both managers have Ben Foster playing at home, but gooner dave has the strong(er?) option of Paul Robinson playing at home to Wolves. Seeing as tippman could well double up on Birmingham clean sheets, gooner dave may well choose the safer option of covering that slightly by playing the former Manchester United keeper.

Moving on to defence and, somewhat surprisingly, Paul Konchesky is the only common player. Alex and Ashley Cole perhaps cancel each other out, but one could quite easily outscore the other by a margin. For me, it’s tippman that has the bigger selection dilemmas this weekend. There must be a temptation to play Gary Cahill in the hope of another bore draw, but that’s a bit of a long-shot to say the least. If last week is anything to go by though, defence isn’t where this contest will be won or lost.

So, onto the front eight. As I mentioned, both have the impressive Dutchman at Spurs’ a likely absentee, and other than that only Nani and Tim Cahill cancel each other out. When you consider both their cheap options have away trips, it looks like the key to victory will be how their respective expensive players perform. For tippman, that’s Florent Malouda and Nicolas Anelka at home to Everton, and Dimitar Berbatov in Blackpool. For gooner dave, that’s Carlos Tevez and an out-of-sorts Didier Drogba. One final thing to note is gooner dave’s trio of Newcastle players, compared to tippman’s zero. How Newcastle perform looks likely to shape how this final plays out.

Let’s not forget our 3rd place play-off also taking place this week, as DRP and The Von battle it out for a free £50 bet courtesy of Paddy Power.

I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing both our finalists the best of luck this weekend, as they attempt to write themselves into the Fantasy Football Scout history books, as well as earn an early Christmas bonus. I’ll bring you news of how the final played out next week.

So is Blackpool - Man U the only game under-threat this weekend due to lack of under-soil heating?

I thought the issue is usually more to do with the surrounding area, so are not most of the fixtures affect...?

    Cheers.

Frozen pitch is going to be a problem for them. Sunderland v West Ham is probably also the most at risk due to surrounding areas. We'll probably hear this afternoon if any matches are looking sketchy for tomorrow.

I have VDV and not sure wether to hold onto him and hope hes back for chelsea game or my other option is VDV to MGP for a 4 pt hit and put Elmander on the Bench. Or should I just play Elmander ? Opinions appreciated 🙂

so youd be taking a hit to bench a top 3 scoring striker? Id say definitely not. Im not promising elmander will score, but i think the MGP bandwagon is getting a little out of hand when people are taking hits to bring him in so they can bench a proven goal threat. Yes, I said it, Elmander-proven goal threat. I feel dirty again. Love the Creed avatar BTW, definitely my favorite character from the US version.

Thing is he is away to Man City. But you are right. Bolton are playing some nice stuff and if they manage to score early on we could get a good game! And Elmander does like scoring away from home. Will see who plays well at the weekend on my watchlist and get them in before next gw!

Yes I agree Creed is a special character! His moments are brilliant!! I love the way he always gets in there with one or two brilliant comments. He is the man

Mine is back last season when Michael is getting everyone to tell about the bad things they have done in life and Creed asks 'What if youve done something really really terrible?'

But what exactly is the point of those last minute presentations anyway? It would be good to know if any voting delegates changed their minds on the strength of a 4 minute video and a polished talk. If they did, then they are morons.

    N'Zogbia, Nani, Kuyt, Bale, (Jarvis)

I hope so. I know it is probably hard for people to remember but RSC was fecking awesome for us and we managed to keep him fit. Would love to get Bentley as well as those two must have combined for 10-15 goals when we had the pair. Although i expect Hughes will be in the market for both of them as well.

As for Pedersen, i don't have any problem with people getting him. He's one of if not the most in form midfielder in the game right now and he is dirt cheap.

Im doing Alex-Kol as I know Alex out

Might well hold back on VDV though as his injury in uncertain..although even if he does return I cant see him playing a full Christmas schedule...

Not worth a 4 pointer in my opinion. Only defender you should really ever consider a 4 pointer for is an in form Cashley at home to someone in the relegation zone otherwise its just not worth the risk assuming you can play someone else.

Yeh they don't seem far off from here until the end of the season could easily see Kolarov out scoring him. At the end of the day though taking a hit for a defender is not a good idea. Hoping they keep a clean sheet then you realise it hasn't actually got you any points!

Bramble/O'Shea->Kyrgiakos/Samba and VdV->Nasri for a 4 pt. hit?Good choice or bad choice? And who to sell first-Bramble or O'Shea?Bramble is out till January but O'Shea is dropping like a stone in price(bought him for 5.6,now he's on 5.0).If I hold off on transferring him out until next week,he might go down by a further 0.2.Besides,he doesn't even come on as a sub these days so he's as good as injured.

All you can deal in is definates mate and Bramble definately won't turn out, Oshea could.

The VDV to Nasri 4 pointer depends on who else you have available to play if you don't make the transfer.

Possibly to the second. Torres and Darren Bent are also in line for next week.

Thing is I kept giving him one more chance for weeks but got rid of him 2 weeks ago and havent looked back. Thing is, you cant win if you sell him and he scores your gutted, if you keep him and he scores you wont want to sell him!!!! I hope he gets 1 goal so that my rivals think of keeping him! I have watched his last 4 games on tv/internet and he is so off the boil its unreal!!!!

At this stage think I am keeping him in, in some crazy hope that he does a Berba or something! If Rooney can put together a good few games then will look at that switch.

He also reckons that the private sector will create meaningful full-time work to absorb the extra million or so losing their jobs in the next 18 months.

Of the two, I'd put my money on Villa.

Should I do VDV to Nasri, straight swap for free; OR

Take 4 points for Davies to Tevez and VDV to Bale/MGP/Dunn?

"The machine looks like something we've borrowed from a fairground," Holloway said. "I waited for about 10 minutes trying to get a hot dog. I hope the game can go ahead because the whole town has been looking forward to this fixture all season.

"If we play we stand a chance of being embarrassed on the pitch, but I think we'll be even more embarrassed if we have to call it off."

However, without undersoil heating, there could be little Holloway could do if the match officials decide that the game must be called off.

Is ground like a body of water, cause once a body of water is frozen surely it takes more than one day for it to cease being frozen. Honestly, it would have to be siberian tundra for them to call the game off, ManU in town for the 1st time in 36 years. If it were wigan visiting, it may be a diffrent story.
