Eight gameweek’s later and here we are, the final of the Fantasy Football Scout Cup III, sponsored by Paddy Power. From over 1300 entrants just two remain, with “tippman” and “gooner dave” hoping to follow the likes of donnellyc and Jonty into our Hall of Fame.

Let’s take a look at the fantasy squads at the disposal of both our finalists going into the weekend…

tippman – Overall Rank: 4,759th, Squad Value: £102.6M

As is stands, tippman has nine of his squad playing away from home this weekend, and one major injury doubt in Rafael Van der Vaart. It looks likely therefore that selection and transfer decisions will be pivotal to his success this week.

gooner dave – Overall Rank: 2,516th, Squad Value: £104.9M

As for gooner dave, he has just six playing away from home, as well as Rafael Van der Vaart. But when you consider three of those six face West Brom, it perhaps isn’t too big a worry.

The main sources of talking points are when you compare both teams. Looking at the goalkeeping situation, it’s probably gooner dave that has a slight advantage. Both managers have Ben Foster playing at home, but gooner dave has the strong(er?) option of Paul Robinson playing at home to Wolves. Seeing as tippman could well double up on Birmingham clean sheets, gooner dave may well choose the safer option of covering that slightly by playing the former Manchester United keeper.

Moving on to defence and, somewhat surprisingly, Paul Konchesky is the only common player. Alex and Ashley Cole perhaps cancel each other out, but one could quite easily outscore the other by a margin. For me, it’s tippman that has the bigger selection dilemmas this weekend. There must be a temptation to play Gary Cahill in the hope of another bore draw, but that’s a bit of a long-shot to say the least. If last week is anything to go by though, defence isn’t where this contest will be won or lost.

So, onto the front eight. As I mentioned, both have the impressive Dutchman at Spurs’ a likely absentee, and other than that only Nani and Tim Cahill cancel each other out. When you consider both their cheap options have away trips, it looks like the key to victory will be how their respective expensive players perform. For tippman, that’s Florent Malouda and Nicolas Anelka at home to Everton, and Dimitar Berbatov in Blackpool. For gooner dave, that’s Carlos Tevez and an out-of-sorts Didier Drogba. One final thing to note is gooner dave’s trio of Newcastle players, compared to tippman’s zero. How Newcastle perform looks likely to shape how this final plays out.

Let’s not forget our 3rd place play-off also taking place this week, as DRP and The Von battle it out for a free £50 bet courtesy of Paddy Power.

I’m sure you’ll join me in wishing both our finalists the best of luck this weekend, as they attempt to write themselves into the Fantasy Football Scout history books, as well as earn an early Christmas bonus. I’ll bring you news of how the final played out next week.

I believe we are all football people who enjoy watching the game, therefore take out politics and each one of us who know anything about football would say that Messi is the player of the year.

He was awesome last season carrying an underperforming barcelona to the title.

Scored over 40 goals for the second season in a row

Has been immense in his domestic league again this year with 23 goals and 11 assists.

            8 hatricks this calender year.

Although he didnt score in the world cup how many times did he hit the framework 4or 5 times as well as creating goals.

His influence on the team and the fear he creates in opposing teams is self evident.

Iniesta scored in a WC final..what else?

            Xavi...poor mans scholes!

            Ronaldo...predominantly a small game player!

            Sneijder...awol since WC!

All footballing people know that Messi is the best redardless of the result.

Skrtel mate 1000%, he is the only nailed on starter even when carra/agger are back. Konchesky should start monday but rumours are aurelio might and the long greek will start but if u got the cash martin skrt is a far better option

Jesus. I am from Norway and I don't really understand all these worries with the weather. Someone care to explain?

In Norway, matches are being played at -15C. It's no problem. Why should there be problems in England, when they have even better stadiums than we have?

It's because norway has an infrastructure in place to deal with freezing conditions and snow, the UK doesn't. Simple really.

When I hear people complaining about the government and local councils not doing enough in the snow it reminds of the episode of The Simpsons with the Bear Tax.

"We demand Bear Patrols 24 hours a day."
"Hey, why has my tax gone up?"

It's not about the stadiums in the most part, although Blackpool is obviously an exception. It's about the surrounding areas and how dangerous they become when it snows heavily. In England the infrastructure isn't able to cope with excess snow, because we don't have safeguards in place as we can't afford to spend millions and millions on preventative measures when it snows heavily so infrequently here. So when the snow does come down heavily, the shit hits the fan and everything grinds to a halt.

Do all the stadiums in Norway have undersoil heating etc?

No, but is honestly not a problem.

Our season lasts from April to October. Besides, the teams that are likely to play in the Champions League/Europa League (not that that is so likely to happen), do have under-soil heating. Like Rosenborg, for instance. At Wednesday they played in -15C against Bayer Leverkusen.

You probably don't remember that match, but in November 1997, Chelsea visited Tromsø (for those of you who don't know, Tromsø is one of the northernmost cities in Norway). And won 3-2. The reason?

Fail. The game actually took place in October (yeah, that's how Norway is in October), not November. Whatever!

    Hey everyone,

My team at the moment is:

    Foster, Krul
    Vidic, Bosingwa, Coleman, Dann, Konchesky
Adam, Nasri, Nani, Van Der Vaart, Cahill
    Tevez, Elmander, Carroll

I have 1 free transfer and 4.6 in the bank.

Just noticed someone saying that Nasri is also a doubt for the Arsenal game!

Which of these would you do:

    A. Van Der Vaart and Coleman OUT, Bale and Kolarov IN.

    B. Van Der Vaart OUT, Lampard IN.

Or if there are any other suggestions anyone has, they will be much appreciated. Especially now that the Man United game has been called off.

Wow man our teams are almost identical, and I'm so worried dunno what to do. I have literally the same team except I have Givet for Dann, Fabregas for Nasri, and Arteta for Cahil :(. Also 1 free and just 1.2 in bank.
I need serious advice, i still have wildcard though, but not keen on using it.
