International Football

Which FPL assets are on international duty and when do they play?

A week of international football gets underway on Wednesday and, as ever, there will be plenty of Premier League representation across the world over the coming seven days.

We’ve put together our usual club-by-club guide to which players will be away with their nations, detailing the countries they are representing and when their matches are scheduled for.

There are a few notable omissions from the list below, with several well-owned Fantasy Premier League assets having a welcome fortnight off.

Jamie Vardy (£9.6m) called time on his England career last year, while David Silva (£7.6m) has also retired from international duty with Spain.

Anthony Martial (£7.7m) and Alexandre Lacazette (£9.3m) have been overlooked by Didier Deschamps, while right-backs Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£5.4m) and Kyle Walker (£5.9m) aren’t part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad.

Mohamed Salah (£12.3m) and Andrew Robertson (£7.0m) weren’t meant to have a two-week recuperation period, of course, but both Liverpool assets have withdrawn from their respective countries’ squads over the last few days.

Salah’s bothersome ankle has seen him ruled out of Egypt’s forthcoming internationals but only after the premium midfielder had travelled to Africa for a consultation with the national team doctor and head coach.

Salah had been pictured with ice on his ankle after the Gameweek 12 win over Manchester City and was spotted wearing a protective boot when joining up with his country on Tuesday.

A statement from the Egyptian FA said:

After medical tests, Mohamed Salah will not play against Kenya and The Comoros. The injury needs a period of treatment to recover.

Robertson, along with Ryan Fraser (£7.0m) and Scott McTominay (£5.1m), withdrew from the Scotland squad on Tuesday.

The Liverpool left-back himself said:

For the last two and a half weeks, I’ve not trained at all for Liverpool. I’ve trained the day before a game, could only play the last 15 minutes against Genk in the Champions League and missed the Arsenal game in the League Cup.

It’s a niggling injury which won’t go away unless I give it time. My ankle was already injured when a tackle from Rodri on me late in the game against Manchester City on Sunday opened it up again.

I was already a doubt for Scotland but, unfortunately, that made it even worse. I don’t want to pick up more injuries and ruin my season because of it. The call has been made and it has been taken out of my hands. It hurts as captain to miss out. I know a lot has been said about these two games being meaningless but we don’t believe that.

The in-form Christian Pulisic (£7.4m) won’t be part of the USA’s squad for their CONCACAF Nations League games over the next week, meanwhile.

Pulisic picked up a hip injury in the win over Crystal Palace and USA head coach Gregg Berhalter said:

This was a collaborative decision with the club looking after the best interest of the player. These decisions are always difficult because this group and the coaching staff want nothing more than to have Christian here, but it was a risk we weren’t willing to take at this time.

At the time of writing, Raul Jimenez (£7.3m) is still on course to be representing Mexico in their own CONCACAF Nations League ties.

Jimenez picked up a leg injury in the dying stages of Sunday’s win over Aston Villa but has reported for international duty, with a decision still to be made on his involvement in games against Panama and Bermuda.

The last of those games takes place in the early hours of Wednesday morning in Mexico so, if he is involved, a late flight back to England awaits Jimenez ahead of Wolves’ Gameweek 13 meeting with Bournemouth the following Saturday.

Looking on the positive side for his owners, on just one occasion has Jimenez been benched by Nuno Espirito Santo after international duty (March 2019).

Elsewhere on the long-haul flight watch, DeAndre Yedlin (£4.4m), Steven Alzate (£4.5m), Yerry Mina (£5.4m), Davinson Sanchez (£5.3m) and Jefferson Lerma (£4.8m) are all due to feature for their respective countries just after midnight on Wednesday.

Brazil and Argentina are in international friendly action in the Middle East, rather than the Americas, so the Premier League players in action for those two countries at least have a little longer to recover from their exertions given the time difference.

Sergio Aguero (£12.0m), recalled by Argentina, will face teammate Gabriel Jesus (£9.5m) in Riyadh this Friday.

Son Heung-min‘s (£9.6m) South Korea side will encounter Brazil next Tuesday afternoon in Abu Dhabi, having played Lebanon in a World Cup qualifier five days beforehand.

Sadio Mane (£12.1m) and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang‘s (£11.0m) international duty will be done by Sunday, with both premium FPL assets representing their countries in 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The 22 Premier League-based players in England’s squad will also be packed up early, with the Three Lions taking on Montenegro and Kosovo on Thursday and Sunday.

Raheem Sterling (£12.0m), of course, won’t be featuring for Gareth Southgate’s side in the first of those games, having clashed with Joe Gomez (£5.1m) in training.

Time to monitor him I guess but with Pulisic and Jimmy also flagged it’s a bit of a concern

I hate that we let people make such stupid decisions with awful consequences. No idea there were so many cases.
Probably hypocritical from an alcohol drinker though ffs. It also says Vardy drinks half a water bottle of port before bed too. I cannot understand how this can be real

Making stupid decisions is part of being human and is one of the best ways of learning.

I think every person is sovereign and "we" have not right to tell them how to live their life for better of worse.

Small bottle of Lucozade is 250 ml, half of that is about 12 cl. 12cl Port isn't actually that much imo. One 5 cl vodka shot has same amount alcohol in it. Could easily be true.

Will Luke Shaw mostly likely be back in Man Utd's first XI after the IB?

  4. Pinturicchio10

      Repost..

      Pope
      TAA / Lundstram / Rico
      Maddison / Salah / Mane / Mount
      Jimenez / Vardy / Abraham

      Button / Dendoncker / Fredricks / Tomori

      1ft 0.8itb

Think I should save ft or get rid of Fredricks for max 5.3 defender? Eyeing up Palace defence after this gw but thinking Guaita is the pick as PVA is out of budget and my defence well set fixture wise, although quite template. Or I could lose Mount, would have max 7.5 for a replacement. David Silva looks the pick of that bunch but very wary of City's drop in form and awkward schedule. Any thoughts guys / gals?

          Assuming injury free after IB:
          A) Rico and De Bruyne
          B) Robbo and Maddison?
Already have TAA, Mane, Soy and Vardy

Having exactly the same dilemma myself with the same group of players! The Robbo injury is putting me off right now and still unsure whether double pool defence is too much as city’s fixtures aren’t as bad as people make out and KdB is due a haul!

                  Very hard to call.

I see C as last place.

Puli is on fire. Madds too.

Very true if I was more sure of Pulisic being a regular starter then he'd go ahead of Jimenez. I don't he'll be dropped just could be left out to keep him fresh or take a rest. Jimenez and Maddison should play 90 every week areing injury / suspension you'd think.

All of them would be great and I just noticed that I do not own any of these.

-Pulisic after City is my prio if nothing special occurs. Really scary on eye test for non-owner.
-Martial seems like being great bargain again but I dont still trust United and not best fixtures
-Madds is maybe too relied on set pieces but a clever player if playing in 10 position
-Jimmy has proven again to provide that involvement per game so good choice as well

Would you make the sideways move from Mount to Pulisic?

Pulisic is top for shots, shots in the box, xgi and big chances over the last 4 gameweeks amongst mids.
                  2nd for Penalty area touches.

Seems like an upgrade to me.

What if lampard rolls out the kante Kovacic Jorginho midfield vs city and decides that is the new formation to go with? Means 2 of mount, Willian and Pulisic get called upon. Pulisic has the best form of the lot but does his place go away once the form does?

I can't see him sticking with that. None of those midfielders have the attacking qualities and pressing ability of Mount which is key to their style of play.
Also I think he's been pretty adamant to have an attacking No 10. When CHO/Pulisic were not ready he was using Barkley as No 10 and Mount on the wing because he was forced to. He has pretty much said he has 4 wingers in Pulisic, Willian, Pedro & CHO.

Not this week. Not until he's fit from injury and after the City game. Ideally, he comes off the bench vs City, plays midweek, scores and then you buy him.

                  Ryan - Button

KDB Mount Mane Sterling - Norwood
                  Vardy Abraham - Greenwood

Me too, I did Auba > Vardy. Brighton’s home defence is solid even without Dunk, personally think Sterling has more chance of a score vs Chelsea’s defence. Getting Robbo in for a hit risky as he’s an injury doubt

Could absolutely slaughter a number of teams in the near couple of months I think. Whichever way it comes I reckon triple up is 100% necessary.

I favor double attack myself as those mids will destroy the defenders scores over the season. Very expensive of course but huge points to be had and little to no rotation. Also quite like Silva as a pick so I'd keep him to be honest. Can you swing the midfield double up? If not then full back double seems most logical as Firmino's a liability fantasy wise despite being a truly wonderful player.

I mean who else apart from Sterling wouldn't play if you made the transfers.

                                      Sterling + Greenwood/other vs Maddison + Jimmy.

                                      Are they both free transfers?

Yes. Both freebies. One of the four starting defense will be benched. 3-4-3

I guess it depends how much you think Sterling can troll you.
Looks an upgrade on current form.

I feel he is the only one who will get City those goals. And they always come roaring back after a defeat. Score 5-6 goals for fun

KDB + Connolly/Rico vs Maddison + Jimenez in my case.

                                        What do you think?
I'm tempted to makes the moves as it also leaves me with money for Mount to Pulisic.

Super transfers them. Both in red hot form and fixtures are juicy too. Mount to Pulisic is sideways but I guess he is worth the extra cash.

McTominay just been awarded the goal at the weekend instead of an own goal. Who’s assist would it have been?

Fred sent the free kick into the box and it came off Dunk before it fell to McTominay if memory serves me right.

Bobby posting on some decent stats recent weeks, really unlucky not to grab a goal or two. Maybe consider for the third pool spot ?

They’ve so many class albums. In Rainbows just strikes a chord with me. Reckoner, Weird Fishes, Bodysnatchers great tunes

This. It’s just beautiful, pretty music. Reckoner is my favourite song ever. Nothing has knocked it off the top for a while.
Was lucky enough to see thom Yorke in summer and see him play it live on his Anima tour (which is class too)

The internet kind of killed it for bands after the 90s were over as they found it hard to sell albums and get off the ground over illegal downloading.

From then on us music lovers were just bombarded with commercial generic production crap with no soul with only a few exceptions.

Easily B. In Rainbows isn't in the same league, and they had plenty of B sides better than that album frankly. I grew up with them and was completely fascinated by OKC and Kid A, but can't listen to them now, through no fault of theirs. Love Jonny Greenwood scores though - especially Phantom thread.

Martial is a myth, one of his assists was a cocked up one on one that resulted in an easy last off.

Most of the hype is united fans looking for a reason to have one of their players.

                                                    I enjoy IB's myself.

First of all i actually like watching international football and it is nice to watch fpl assets playing without worrying about not owning them.

These breaks also give one chance to take stock and maybe do something in real life over the weekend. It is important to make the most of it a recharge the battery's because after this IB is over we are heading into a busy fpl period that gets real hectic around Christmas and you will need all the mental energy you have to get through it.

Even on here during the IB deadzone some of the long winded discussion can be good and is a welcome brake from pages flying with RMT's and A,B,C's.

I'm putting on the brakes on breaks 'Cause it's cold outside and I like to eat chicken stew with crusty bread against the glow of a real coal burning fire glowing my skin.

I know I should know this, but when is the liverpool v hammers game likely to be?

Can't be till into new year right? First chance if they dont make CC semis?
