Captain Poll

Vote in the Gameweek 13 FPL captain poll

The 2019/20 Fantasy Premier League season continues to throw up more interesting captaincy debates for managers.

Gameweek 13 presents us with an intriguing set of fixtures that are arguably tricky to predict.

You can now vote in the latest Captain Poll either below or in the sidebar, while Joe and David have discussed this week’s options on our YouTube channel.

After scoring six goals in the last four matches, Jamie Vardy (£9.6m) is likely to be the people’s favourite as Leicester continue their excellent recent form.

Vardy travels to Brighton in Gameweek 13

However, it must be said that a trip to Brighton may not be quite as plain sailing as many will have hoped.

The Seagulls have admittedly been a little shaky on their travels in 2019/20 but at the Amex Stadium, they have fared much better.

In their last four in front of their own fans, against Burnley, Spurs, Everton and Norwich, Brighton have kept two clean sheets and conceded just three times.

During that sample, only Chelsea, Sheffield United, Newcastle and Leicester themselves have let in fewer goals (all two).

That said, Vardy and his team-mates come to Sussex in arguably much better form than

Furthermore, Graham Potter could still be without centre-back Adam Webster (£4.4m) while club captain Lewis Dunk (£4.6m) will miss Gameweek 13 through suspension.

That could see Brighton line-up with two so-called second string centre-backs in Shane Duffy (£4.9m) and Leon Balogun (£4.4m). Alternatively, Dan Burn (£4.5m) could return to the middle and allow Gaëtan Bong (£4.3m) at left-back.

Liverpool might find a trip to Palace harder than a home meeting with Manchester City

Meanwhile, Liverpool options might prove harder to captain for their trip to Crystal Palace compared to a Gameweek 12 win over Manchester City.

Pep Guardiola’s defence came to Anfield in fairly poor shape in recent away matches, which is why it was no surprise to see them concede three times.

However, Crystal Palace still have one of the best records at the back during home games this season.

They kept three clean sheets in the first four Selhurst Park matches of the campaign and were close to a fourth in the Gameweek 6 draw with Wolves.

Since then they have made Manchester City and Leicester work very hard for tight 2-0 wins.

It is also worth pointing out that Mohamed Salah (£12.3m) is still waiting on his first away league goal of the campaign although Sadio Mané (£12.1m) has five attacking returns on the road this season, only Raheem Sterling (£12.0m) and Christian Pulisic (£7.4m) have more.

Sterling was arguably Manchester City’s best player against Liverpool

Those two players are expected to be further down the captain poll results than usual because of the potentially unpredictable nature of a big clash between Manchester City and Chelsea.

However, there is every reason to believe that Guardiola’s men can reward managers who show some patience.

While Chelsea’s defensive prospects at Stamford Bridge have been very strong in recent weeks, they are still struggling to keep things tight on the road.

They come to the Etihad Stadium on Saturday evening still without a league clean sheet away from home in 2019/20.

The 12 goals they have conceded on their travels is the same number as Norwich, while only Aston Villa (13), Watford (13) and Newcastle (14) have shipped more than that.

Furthermore, Frank Lampard’s last four opponents on the road in Watford, Burnley, Southampton and Wolves all pose considerably less of a threat than Manchester City and still managed to find a way to score past his side.

That’s good news for anyone looking to holding Sterling and Kevin de Bruyne (£10.2m) for Gameweek 13.

The England international was Manchester City’s most dangerous goal threat against Liverpool, although still only has one attacking return in his last four league starts at the Etihad Stadium.

De Bruyne has fared a little better there, with a goal and three attacking returns since Gameweek 6 and perhaps a little added incentive as he faces his former employers.

Anyone else looking at getting Zaha come GW15? Palace fixtures get pretty amazing and it's only a matter of time imo before Zaha hits the goals seeing as his head is in the right place

Out of form player in a defensive minded team.
2 mids in his own team have scored higher than him; even McArthur who is 5.3..
A player who does not want to be at Palace.
We are "dragging up" the differentials.

Guys, a quick update on my situation as i know my friends on here will be interested:

Still alot of work to do this week, another 562 transfers to go till i hit the 2000 gw transfers. Then i need to assemble a new team ( i will of course be back on to ask all of my friends on here with help with that), then my new challenge of coming froming almost last postion to being the outright winner will be on.
    See you all on Saturday.

Tough - in exactly the same spot from next week with KdB rather than Sterling.

If the move is this week and Robbo is fit I'd go double Liverpool just. Very decent chance of a cs at Palace imo. It slightly depends on your fifth mid and 3rd forward. I'm reasoning that there is a decent chance of premium City mids being rotated for Newcastle and Burnley, United fixtures being ho hum and Soy having limited chances attacking returns.

If you made the Ings move we would be twins!!

My dilemma is that I already have Ings and Mount rotating for the 7th attacking slot with prime fixtures for both from 14 and Ota is clogging up my defence alongside TAA Soy Lund and Rico.

Suspect I'll end up with Robbo and benching Soy.

          Equation is

Robbo plus Ings/Mount > Soy plus Martial

What do we expect from brighton-leicester game ? see alot of vardy captains which makes sense considering his form and the way leicester are playing but brighton been somewhat solid at home this season and have 3 straight victories at home. Keep going between sterling and vardy for the armband.

Very tricky to call I think.

Potter has talked up how important Brighton's home games are to them and it won't be an easy game for Leicester. Vardy somehow feels the 'safer' pick than Sterling, purely because he and Leicester are in form.

      1. HurriKane
        • 11 Years

brighton leicester could be very open game as potters is an attacked minded manager and being at home they will push more in attack leaving behind gaps for Vardy to exploit.

Not to forget brightonntwo main central defenders are probably out (Dunk is suspended and Webster is injured)

True. Plus Brighton's defensive away form has been awful, so how much better can they really be at home against an in-form Leicester. And with at least 1 of their main defenders out!

My main issue with B Is the weekly benching headache. Could downgrade Mcginn or Mount maybe and bank the money.

Thoughts on Pukki and Cantwell to Jimenez and Hayden for free? Will allow me to do Sterling to Mane next GW.

I'm expecting Pukki to score this week now I've ditched him on a wildcard.

        Breakout defenders:
Which defenders do you feel we should be bringing into our squads in the coming ganeweeks and why? Is Mendy too risky? Is Trent primes for hauls? Is Maguire going to start keeping clean sheets?

          PvA is a temptation.

Palace have a golden fixture run that stretches beyond the horizon and he's averaged 5 goals a season consistently and has zero competition for his slot. Pricey of course if you're low on budget. In that case there is an argument for Ward as a bench sitter. He too is nailed but doesn't really offer much by way of attacking returns.

Worth noting that that the template defence of TAA Soy Lund looks problematic from 18 on where both Leicester and SU have City and Liverpool lurking. A decent 4th defender looks key even before you factor in festive season rotation.
