Thursday’s FPL Team News ahead of Gameweek 13

Leicester City midfielder James Maddison (£7.5m) has returned to the club completely fit and ready for Gameweek 13.

That’s what Brendan Rodgers told the media at his Thursday press conference as the Foxes prepare to travel to Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

Maddison reportedly had to deal with a minor calf injury while on international duty with England but Rodgers has allayed the fears both of Leicester fans and the 22.2% of Fantasy Premier League managers in possession of him.

“James (Maddison) is fine (after calf injury). He’s ok. We’re all very happy for James (to make his England debut).” – Brendan Rodgers

Meanwhile, the Leicester boss reported that, following extensive game-time over the international break, Youri Tielemans (£6.7m), Ben Chilwell (£5.7m) and Ricardo Pereira (£6.3m) all had light training days on Thursday.

Jonny Evans (£5.1m) missed a recent Northern Ireland game through illness but is believed to be fit and ready by Rodgers.

There is plenty of interest in the injury latest at Brighton too, as Fantasy managers consider Jamie Vardy (£9.6m) as a Gameweek 13 captain.

Lewis Dunk’s (£4.6m) suspension has been confirmed since Gameweek 12, when he picked up his second yellow card of the season, and he will almost certainly be missed by the Seagulls.

Whether or not they will have to take on Rodgers’ in-form outfit without Adam Webster (£4.4m) does remain to be seen though.

Manager Graham Potter revealed on Thursday that he had been recovering from his ankle injury faster than expected and that he was in with a “chance” of starting against Leicester. That said, Potter did also highlight his alternative options at centre-back which include Shane Duffy (£4.9m), Leon Balogun (£4.4m) and Dan Burn (£4.5m).

“Adam Webster has a chance of being fit for the weekend and it’s a lot earlier than expected. He’s trained today and we’ll see how he is tomorrow. We have good options in that area of the field.” – Graham Potter

Meanwhile, Leandro Trossard (£5.8m) has recovered from the ankle problem sustained while on international duty with Belgium but Gameweek 13 has come too soon for Aaron Connolly (£4.7m) and Bernardo (£4.3m).

“Leandro Trossard rolled his ankle while he was away – it was more precautionary that he was left out. He’s trained with us and he’s fine for the weekend. Aaron Connolly will miss the game this weekend with the same groin problem from the Manchester United game, hopefully he’ll be back for next weekend. Bernardo has been back in training this week but the weekend is too soon for him.” – Graham Potter

Jose Mourinho will not be too limited in his first match as Tottenham Hotspur head coach.

Michel Vorm (£4.4m) sustained a calf injury which will keep him out until December while Erik Lamela (£5.8m) and Hugo Lloris (£5.3m) remain the only other long-term absentees with hamstring and elbow issues respectively.

There will be a late call made on Tanguy Ndombèlé (£5.9m) and Jan Vertonghen (£5.2m).

West Ham will get some much-needed reinforcements for Mourinho’s highly-anticipated visit to the London Stadium.

Mark Noble (£5.0m) is one of three players who have been declared fit for Gameweek 13, the club captain arguably the most important considering the attacking talent on offer at Spurs.

Also returning to availability are Michail Antonio (£6.9m) and Jack Wilshere (£4.7m).

“Michail Antonio, Jack Wilshere and Mark Noble worked the whole week without problem and will be involved in the squad list for Saturday.” – Manuel Pellegrini

Those backing Spurs assets may be relatively encouraged by Pellegrini’s backing for goalkeeper Roberto Jiménez (£4.4m).

The former Espanyol man has been in dreadful form of late and could arguably be benched for David Martin (£4.0m) in Gameweek 13 without too many complaints.

However, Pellegrini has urged those connected with the club to get behind him and help boost his confidence. While he did not explicitly state that Roberto would keep his place, it seems probable that he will on the back of these quotes.

“He has a lot of experience in a lot of countries. He knows it’s not his best performance in the last game, but I think that all of us must be behind him.” – Manuel Pellegrini

Dani Ceballos (£5.3m) continues to be absent with a hamstring problem for Arsenal, while Sead Kolasinac‘s (£5.3m) similar issues have him as a doubt for Gameweek 13.

Meanwhile, Unai Emery revealed that Rob Holding (£4.5m), Bukayo Saka (£4.5m) and Nicolas Pépé (£9.2m) missed training with the group on Thursday but did not report any injuries, the latter simply arriving back late from international duty.

“Holding, Saka, Kolasinac didn’t train. They could train tomorrow. Pépé arrived late because of travel and didn’t train with the group but trained inside. Will be ready for Saturday.” – Unai Emery

In something of a turnaround, Granit Xhaka (£5.2m) could feature for the Gunners despite suggestions that his Arsenal career was all but over.

“Xhaka is coming back better. This morning I have a very good conversation with him. My objective is for him to come back helping us. We are going to decide tomorrow (if he plays) but I want to give him confidence and comfort.” – Unai Emery

Sean Dyche does not have too many new injury concerns ahead of a trip to Watford.

Johann Berg Gudmundsson (£5.9m) and Matej Vydra (£5.3m) are both strong doubts for Gameweek 13 with hamstring and hip problems respectively.

“(Gudmundsson) is going well, he’s back on the grass with the physios, but I don’t expect him to make it. Vydra had a little tear in his hip. It was a strange one, we didn’t think anything of it, but he had a scan and that showed up. We’ll see how it settles. He’s got a chance, but probably a slim one.” – Sean Dyche

Steve Bruce was handed two timely positive updates from centre-backs Fabian Schär (£5.0m) and Florian Lejeune (£4.4m) this week.

“Lejeune + Schär have trained the last 2 weeks so they come into the reckoning. The big one is Flo because he’s been out so long but he’s ready to go and the same for Fab. As long as they come through the next few days unscathed.” – Steve Bruce

Both of them were declared fit for Gameweek 13 just as there were updates on injuries to Jamaal Lascelles (£4.4m) and Ciaran Clark (£4.3m).

It was revealed that the club captain’s problem is actually a fracture of the tibia which will keep him out for a few weeks, while Clark sustained a knock whilst on international duty.

With Schär and Lejeune back in contention though, Bruce may have no problems slotting the two of them into the side for the trip to Aston Villa.

Watford’s Ismaïla Sarr (£6.2m) has overcome an ankle injury picked up on international duty while Troy Deeney (£6.2m) is also likely to start against Burnley.

“Sarr is okay. He has been training with us for two or three days, no problem. He looks well in training. He is ready. Little by little, (Deeney) is progressing. He is ready and he wants to play, of course. He is wishing to go the pitch. It’s good news for us. He’s always good and understands perfectly what we feel, what we need, the necessities of the club and the team. He is able to transmit to the players the importance of every match. The presence of Deeney is very necessary for us.” – Quique Sanchez Flores

Domingos Quina (groin), Tom Cleverley (heel), Daniel Bachmann (hamstring), Danny Welbeck (hamstring), Sebastian Prödl (knee) and Roberto Pereyra (hamstring) are all out while Christian Kabasele is suspended.

Finally, Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhüttl revealed that he has no injury concerns in the squad anymore.

That ensured a yellow flag came off centre-forward Michael Obafemi (£4.9m) while Ryan Bertrand (£4.8m) should return after his three-match suspension.

“I have the whole squad now. The whole squad is available. I can pick the 11 that is in the shape I want to play.” – Ralph Hasenhüttl

      Yes and No.

Yes because of fixtures and him being a good player.

No as Good ebening is not to be trusted and Laca not scoring enough points to my liking over the previous seasons.

Article on Firmino, and his recent goal-drought. Summed up shortly, he has had similar dry-spells in all seasons under Klopp. Started strong , like this season. Then gone quiet for 6-7 weeks. Looks perfectly lined up. Right of a int. Break, right into some Green fixtures.

A bit fluffy but the point stands.

I like Firmino actually. Loads of people gave me stick for it, but the last few weeks have been tough fixtures for Liverpool. Going into a sea of green I'll be shocked if he doesn't get attacking returns in at least half of the fixtures, maybe more.

GW13 DS stats, fixtures and clean sheet odds

In the last GW there wasn't a team that made the grade but Chelsea (316DS) did come out on top out of everyone and beat Crystal Palace 2-0 at home. Manchester United (264DS) beat Brighton 3-1 at Old Trafford.

This season has saw the death of CS's tbh

As relative measures I find these CS stats very useful. Thanks G-Whizz.

Mistake in article as Liverpool aren't playing at Anfield this week. Palace away for them is much trickier than the stats suggest.

Looks like this is not the week to depart from the rule-of-thumb of not taking a hit for a defender, at least. Diop will have to make do

I like Scoutcast with Az more.
      He's bit more realistic/less superficial.

I think generally it is brilliant.

I massively miss Mark and the banter of the early days, but you can’t replace an individual.

The format this year has been very good, looking at good issues each week. And the variation in presenters each week has also been interesting.

Inevitably, the quality will vary from week to week. This week was one of the weaker ones this season - partly because of the fact we are in the middle of a long break, but also the thoughts of the presenters didn’t really flow well together. That’s an inevitable side effect of changing the lineup.

It's been terrible for ages. Joe is a decent host but his knowledge of the game better suited to one of the guests. He has alot of useful info to share but limited in his role as a host

It's now too rigid, can I say too professional? It's got a feeling of people turning up to work and walking over egg shells when making comments.

It was once something which was off the cuff, you could relate to the people talking. It's lost that and I guess that's expected with the way the site has gone.

It comes down to what you like. Many prefer this current format but it's not for me

Yes, I can understand exactly what you mean there. It’s a really tough balance to strike between professionalism and spontaneity.

For example, when Mark used to ask Granville for his clean sheet predictions for the weekend, and he hadn’t bothered looking at the fixtures, it was very unprofessional and shambolic, but also very relatable and funny.

Very hard to strike a balance that will please everyone.

I agree. The ScoutCast is weak. The guys really try and they truly care. I have listened to every single one of them since day 1, but gone are the great banter sessions between Mark and Gran. Granville got burnt-out and lost interest, while Mark has clearly sold the site and probably has a non-compete.

Our loss. There is sincere effort being made by Jonty and friends, but it is too sanitized now. I need the purity of Triggerlips, and the analysis of the General.

These Scout guys don’t know much more than I know and I don’t know much.

Keep trying boys, it was always my favorite, but we have lost the flow of the ScoutCast. I have always appreciated it.

Used to watch it every week with Mark hosting, last season wasn’t too bad with 4 of Joe, David, Andy, Az and Luke and the occasional guest. Haven’t finished a single episode this season and have pretty much given up on it.

Exactly my thoughts. The contents are still great (as always) although it's the personnel change that caused the less excitement. Give them time like most of us said here and maybe they can start having their banters as they know each other more, like how Mark, Az, Jonty and Granville did back then.

Talking about this topic, I started to think why I started listening to Scoutcast regularly, literally every week, cos of the mixture of BOTH great content and 'friendly' banters. It's the latter that is currently missing 🙂

I thought Tom was good this week. However, if possible, I think they need consistency with the guests they have on. It builds chemistry with each other and makes it more enjoyable to watch.

2 weeks my armband is on Sterling however the poll and EO scares me if Vardy who is my vice atm.

So the dilemma is play safe with Vardy since Sterling getting pts is enough or stand by my decision? Gw 1 I went against the crowd with Sterling captain...
