Who are the best FPL captain candidates for Gameweek 15?

Fantasy Premier League managers have yet another captaincy decision to make as the midweek Gameweek 15 approaches.

Starting on Tuesday night, the latest round of action pits Liverpool against Everton, Manchester City against Burnley and Leicester against Watford.

As per usual, the Captain Sensible article is here to help you make the right choice for the armband using a comparison of the in-form players and their upcoming opponents.

As this piece uses data from the Fantasy Football Scout Members Area, only those signed up for the 2019/20 can access it in full.

Captain Poll

Jamie Vardy (£9.9m) has absolutely decimated the captain poll for Gameweek 15, with a humongous 58% share of the vote.

Perhaps we should not be too surprised by such support given that the Leicester forward last blanked in Gameweek 8 and has eight goals in six matches since then.

The fact that Watford come to the King Power Stadium directly after losing a second manager this season probably does not help their cause, but may play into Vardy’s hands. Furthermore, Watford may also have to field another line-up short of key defensive personnel.

A long way off in second place is Wilfried Zaha (£6.6m) who has amassed just 6.4% of the vote.

The Crystal Palace man has scored in each of his last two outings, against Liverpool and Burnley and this week faces Bournemouth.

The Cherries have lost their last three matches on the spin, conceding at two goals or more to Newcastle, Wolves and Tottenham.

Sadio Mané (£12.2m) is looking at a third-place finish in the captain poll but is still only being considered by 4.4% of the voters.

The Liverpool man blanked at Anfield for the first time since Gameweek 3 on Saturday afternoon and faces Everton on Wednesday night.

The Toffees have conceded twice in three of their last five matches and continue to be plagued by rumours over the future of manager Marco Silva.

Mohamed Salah (£12.2m) will also likely be involved in the Merseyside derby but has been given backing for the captaincy by just 2.9% after his latest blank.

Kevin de Bruyne (£10.2m) is the most popular Manchester City option on the back of two goals in two for the midfielder.

With Pep Guardiola’s men travelling to Burnley, the Belgian has been backed by 4.1% of voters, while Raheem Sterling (£11.9m) is supported by just 3.3%.

His goal at Newcastle was the first since Gameweek 10, so it may still take a little while before Fantasy managers trust Sterling en masse again.

Two goals for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.9m) in the 2-2 draw with Norwich has helped him achieve the support of 3.7% for the Gameweek 15 captaincy.

Arsenal host a Brighton side that has conceded twice or more in six out of their last eight matches. They are especially porous away from home, having let in a total of 13 goals on the road so far. Only five teams have allowed more.

Christian Pulisic (£7.5m) may have two blanks in a row but he still has more goals and points than any other Chelsea player since Gameweek 10.

That’s why he is the most fashionable of his colleagues for the Gameweek 15 captaincy with the support of 2.1% ahead of Aston Villa’s trip to Stamford Bridge.

The Villans have let in two or more goals in five of their seven away matches so far this season and in each of their last three consecutive road trips.

Raúl Jiménez (£7.7m) and Alexandre Lacazette (£9.3m) are the only other options with more than 1% backing.

    A - Pope to Ryan
    B - Sterling/Mount to Alli/Son
    C - Tomori to Soy
    D - Saka to Fleck
    E - something else??

    Team now is:

    Pope/Button
    TAA/Lundstram/Rico/Tomori/Kelly
    Mane/KDB/Sterling/mount/Saka
    Vardy/Jimenez/Connolly

Dele Alli has been involved in 87 goals in 126 pl starts. Those are great returns for an 8.5m priced mid

People seem to forget just how good he was because he had a sub par last season by his standards mainly due to injuries.

Under Mourinho he has been fully rejuvinated and playing his natural position behind Kane.

2019-20 / Involved in 5 goals in 6 pl starts so far (4 goals 1 assist)

    2018-19 / Involved in 9 goals in 20 pl starts (5 goals 4 assists)

    2017-18 / Involved in 22 goals in 35 pl starts (9 goals 13 assists)

    2016-15 / Involved in 29 goals in 35 pl starts (18 goals 11 assists)

    2015-16 / Involved in 22 goals in 30 pl starts (10 goals 12 assists)

Thoughts? Are you looking to get him in chistmas for spurs good run of fixtures?

Just bought him in for Mount (super obvious form choice + I didn't have funds for Son). Man Utd are going to get beat. Mou back. It's written. NExt season Mou will probably play 6-7 defenders. Until then - I like Alli

his positionning against BOU was really impressive. Played way higher than Son and almost as high as Kane, if not higher.

      1. HurriKane
        • 11 Years

Agree. When in possession, Son sticks very close to the byline. This is presumably to stretch the opposition defense as much as possible as you have Aurier doing the same on the opposite side of the pitch.

Between Kane and Dele, one of them would drop deeper to link up with midfield while the other would linger further up the pitch. On Saturday, Dele was higher up for more of the game than Kane.

Dele is extremely good at finding space behind defenders and timing his runs perfectly. Son is very good at beating his man and is lethal given the chance.

Yh in your case i can understand. i am torn between getting in Son and Alli. Leaing towards Alli as i can use extra cash to upgrade Cantwell to Grealish for gw18-21 where he faces relegation trio and burnley in a row ((SOT NOR wat bur)

Cant see much difference in points potential with Son and Alli.

Tbh he had two and a half bad seasons in total now before Mou. Seems to be down to position and confidence but he's been dire for a long time.

Which actually makes his numbers more impressive.

When he gets going he is bit like Vardy/Salah, just goes on a insane run of points. Could be about to arrive. I had Son from Everton game so kind of already made my choice then before Mourinho came. If not, having to pick one now it would be tough to choose between them. My feeling is that Son is slightly more reliable captaincy option, but it is 1.3 between (well not if you bought Son at 9.6) so really depends as that is large chunk of money. I guess one have to look at one own team and then decide what is best for THAT specific team.

I currently own both Son and Alli, for a roughly total sum of 18.0m. I got rid of Sterling and DKB, which cost me 22.0m total. That 4 million saving allowed me to keep Mane, with Vardy up top and a TAA/Robbo double up. Pretty happy with that!

What do you guys think about Aurier?

He starts to be looking like a Mou Soldier isn't he? that kind of super nailed player and at 4.9 with a lot of attacking threat, isn't he once to really consider?

Sure spurs don't keep cleansheet so far but we all know Mou like to tied things up so I won't be surprised CS will start at spurs making Aurier even more appealing?

Yes but honestly, really don't need a good 4th choice defender seeing as TAA, Lundstram and Soyuncu just start every game from now until GW 18. He ends up just blocking good midfield/forwards.

Morning all! I'm looking for some advice... my current team

    Ryan
    TAA Soyuncu Lundstram
    Mane KDB Martial Maddison Mount
    Vardy Jiminez

    Button Tomori Rico Abraham*
    2FT, 0 in the bank

Umming and ahhing over how to use my transfer(s). I'm thinking:

    1) Martial to Zaha now, and then
    2) Abraham and Mount to Mousset and Alli/Son for GW16

What do you think? I feel a bit iffy about dropping both my Chelsea attackers when their upcoming fixtures aren't terrible. Though if Abraham is definitely out, I could swap him for Mousset this week instead of next. Any advice appreciated 🙂

Couple of options here - would love to hear your thoughts.

Tielemans & Mount both a little off the boil and I have 2ft.
I already have to bench 2 of Lund Tomori Soyuncu so considering a downgrade and an upgrade.

    1. Tielemans & Mount -> Alli & 5.2 (can then play one of Tomori / Soyuncu)
    2. Pulisic & Grealish. Form players but same benching issue.
    3. Keep one of Tielemans / Mount and get Grealish.

    Pope
    VVD TAA Lundstram
    Sterling KDB Mount Tielemans
    Vardy Abraham Jimenez

    Soyuncu Tomori Dendoncker

Think you need to take the risk. His ownership is gonna be huge and he is easily capable of big hauls in these next 5.

    Ryan
    VVD Soy Lund Dunk Lowton
    Salah KDB Maddison Mount Cantwell
    Vardy Tammy Jimenez

Ryan > Henderson today and Mount > Pulisic/Zaha after midweek games? If Tammy is out, I might do Abraham > Mousset/Ings and bring Alli or Son

    Ryan
    TAA, Soyuncu, Lundstram

He's listed as Alli, rather than Dele Alli. Try that, should work.
