The Dugout Discussion opens for the concluding fixture of Gameweek 34, which sees 17th placed Wigan Athletic travel down the 3rd placed Arsenal. The team news for the game is in, and the sides line-up as follows…

Arsenal XI: Szczesny, Sagna, Djourou, Vermaelen, Andre Santos, Song, Arteta, Walcott, Rosicky, Benayoun, van Persie.

Wigan XI: Al Habsi, Alcaraz, Caldwell, Figueroa, Boyce, McCarthy, McArthur, Beausejour, Moses, Di Santo, Gomez.

A single change from the side that brushed Wolves aside for the Gunners, as Tomas Rosicky comes in for Aaron Ramsey in midfield.

Despite condemning Manchester United to only their fourth defeat of the season, Shaun Maloney isn’t in the visitors squad. Jordi Gomez replaces the Malaysian born Scot.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom is open and can be accessed right here.

Looking Wigans form would it be a smart decision not to double up on Fulham defenders and replace Kelly or Schwarzer with Vorm, Caulker or Turner???

Strangely enough, the highlight of my FPL weekend was a sneaky Szczesny save deep into injury time for an extra point added to my GW total.
You gotta love this game and what it makes you wish for !!

Why is Wenger such a bitch? Man up and admit the better side won the match. Away in a huff and not speaking to the media. I hate that.

It was pretty excessive but that's what every team does when they're in a winning position and against a stronger team. This doesn't make it right but it means the officials are the ones to blame for not resolving the issue.

Nonsense! Al Habsi got booked for it which is fair enough but you can't lost out in much injury time. They did nothing with the possession anyway. Wigan truly deserved the win and Wenger can't admit that. Such a bad loser.

Same problem here, since i have 3 fulham players, currently considering replacing Kelly with Caulker or Turner.

They could also let up a bit after getting some pressure off their backs.

    Plan ignoring City vs Wolves:

    GW35 save FT

    GW36 - 8pt hit
    Turner > Baines (if fit)
    Sess > Ben Arfa (dgw)
    Rooney > Ade (dgw)
    RVP > Jelavic (dgw)
    9.9m in bank!

My take from watching the match:

    - Firstly Wigan once again played far better than a team of their position. Defended in deep and counter-attacked superbly. Passing was once again precise, even the clearances were aimed with care, they looked like scoring every time they broke, and they thoroughly deserved to win.
    - Arsenal defence utterly compromised by the double whammy of Koscielny out and Djourou in. Djourou is a liability. Worse still, Verm didn't defend partiuclarly well either.
    - Arsenal midfield looked rudderless after Arteta was injured around 20 minutes. He is the deep-lying playmaker and responsible for starting attacks and indirectly protecting the defence by keeping possession... neither of which we did properly this game.
    - Arteta was replaced by Ramsey. That says it all.
    - Wigan pressed high up the pitch and often broke up Arsenal attacks barely past the halfway line creating goalscoring opportunities...
    - RVP looked off-form again, Walcott too, though this must be seen in context of Wigan marking and tackling like absolute beasts.

    Implications for next GW:
    - Koscielny is back from suspension next match against Chelsea which should improve the defence.
    - Arteta injury is very important. If he's back next match, fine, if not, that's a bad sign for both the defence and attack in my view. As are the odds of Ramsey playing...

People need to stop seeing Aguero or Tevez as a kneejerk transfer. It clearly makes sense the way City are now playing. And they will probably go on to win all their games to try and win the title. If Dempsey never scored 2 at Bolton he would not be so badly sought after and the same with HBA in his last couple of matches. RVP is particularly goal shy atm and Rooney is getting the points but looking pretty flat all the same. I want some exciting players in for the last few games.

Yeah you don't need Sess + McClean. One will do there I reckon. I totally agree about Dempsey. I've had him for ages now. It's just that if we rewind to the pre Bolton game he was off the radar and his away form was terrible. 2 weeks later and most people want him again. Quite jerky behaviour.

There'll no doubt be a members only "versus" article on it later in the week! Either become a member and read it or wait till members have read it and infer what the article said from the comments below it...then bring that one in*

*Except that these articles are always inconclusive, so that won't work

    I did....

    Walcott > Petrov
    Bentner > Tevez

Tevez, RVP, and Rooney up-front now, happy days.

      Very good point!

I think he's being completely overlooked at the moment and could be a good differential...

Winning my league by around 80 points

Is RVP > Tevez a stupid idea?

Not really, this season is form over fixtures, though if Drogba starts v Barca, I'd be tempted by a cheeky Torres punt instead!

    So, rethink time...,
Is Dempsey essential now Wigan are playing well??

    Which would you prefer??

    Walcott to Dempsey
    Rvp to Aguero
    Rooney to Aguero
    Or stick with
    Val/Walcott/Bale/Siggy
    Rvp/Rooney/Cisse
    ??

Definitely. I posted a similar question up this page and the guys here said Fulham might beat Wigan or better, thrash. That's how football works anyway. It's like Liverpool beat the top teams but lose to mid-tabled teams.

Considering a few options for this week, which would you say is the best?

    Have 2 frees

    A) Rooney -> Tevez
    B) Walcott -> Silva
    C) Sessegnon -> Silva
    D) Rooney -> Tevez AND Sess -> Dempsey
    E) None of the above

A and D, which is Sessegnon to Dempsey, but Sessegnon might score against Villa. You never know when someone goes quiet and all of a sudden... shakalaka BOOM! 😛
