No goals from open play in seven league starts. Thatโ€™s a statistic which, a couple of months ago, would seem improbable of a player of the stature of Robin Van Persie. It looked like heโ€™d run and run until the end of the season; that Arsenalโ€™s skipper had successfully broken Fantasy football and made a slot in our squads his own, with the captainโ€™s armband soldered to his bicep.

Todayโ€™s blank in the stifling 0-0 with Chelsea at the Emirates was the latest setback for those clinging to Van Persie, in the hope that heโ€™ll recapture the stunning form which saw him reach essential status. Certainly thereโ€™s been no let up in goal threat from Arsenalโ€™s talisman. Today, Van Persie fired in seven efforts on goal โ€“ more than any other player in the Gameweek thus far โ€“ it was his most threatening display since Gameweek 18. Reassurance in numbers form โ€“ but is it enough?

Such statistics would indicate that his army of Fantasy owners, and those who skippered him yet again, were unfortunate to pocket just a single point after the Dutchman earned his seventh booking of the season. As Arsene Wenger commented in his post-match conference, Van Persie gave everything but, like his owners, he just got nothing back.

The question is, where do we go from here? A total of 74,000 net transfers out last week, already Van Persie is being shipped by thousands. Clearly thereโ€™s a tide turning against him as patience wears thin. Although fixtures against Stoke, Norwich and West Brom would suggest that Arsenal and Van Persie still have goals left to score.

Todayโ€™s injury to Theo Walcott wonโ€™t help acquire them โ€“ Van Persie will now have to do without his supply from the right flank for the remaining matches. However, that also deprives Arsene Wenger of the option of shifting Walcott to a central role and carrying out the unthinkable act of resting his skipper โ€“ even with 50 games in the tank. While Arsenal still have something to play for, Van Persie will surely start and, with those opponents, logic and statistics suggest that the goal drought surely cannot continue.

Itโ€™s getting tougher to hang on to such arguments, though. With Papiss Cisse maintaining a frightening and improbable scoring rate, itโ€™s almost as if the power has shifted. Like the goal mojo took a train to Tyneside, leaving the weary Dutchman searching for the knack, whilst Cisse went about feasting. Double Gameweek offerings will be the next to tempt us to pull the chord on the Van Persie ejector seat: the nagging doubts are building.

Todayโ€™s harsh lesson will surely see the armband kept from Van Persie when he rolls up at Stoke. A notorious setting, Wenger wonโ€™t relish taking his men to the Britannia and the majority will expect Van Persieโ€™s dry spell to be extended. Those who press the button prior to Gameweek will cling to the fact that the Gunners rarely enjoy their encounters with the muscular Potters who, at their best, can be formidable in front of their bellowing fans. It all points to another blank for the goalscorer supreme. I can almost see Tony Pulis, furiously waving a green flag for those now pondering disposing of Van Persieโ€™s talents.

Personally, Iโ€™m not sure I want to take Tony’s advice: I never trust a man in a baseball cap. Iโ€™m not turning my back on Robin, not yet. Maybe Iโ€™ll sleep on it. Maybe, once Wayne Rooney has done his thing against Everton, once City have torn up Wolves โ€“ maybe then theyโ€™ll be enough to convince me that itโ€™s time to give it up.

Right now it feels wrong. The good times are still too fresh in the mind. Even if part of me is watching my season whimper out along with Van Persieโ€™s, heโ€™s saved me so often, it’s almost as if I feel I owe to him to remain faithful.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

Chelsea fans didn't racially abuse Anton 'Battlefield 3' Ferdinand and maybe one or two out of 25,000 showed disrespect.

If you listen to it it's about 10 fans and a lot more trying to get them to shut up. Yes it was bad but it's moronic to label all fans of a team because of an obvious minority.

So you went from 1/2 fans to 10 within a comment. It was quite loud, don't ever think a camera will record a 'few' fans voices unless their voices are louder than Shrek's ? :S Nevertheless, noone likes Chelsea's fans.

For me it's Minnie the Moocher.

My plan is to take an 8 point hit to do.

            Rooney, Walcott and Kompany out
            for
VDV, Walker/BAE and Cisse leaving a lot of spare money in the bank

I could use the extra to upgrade Moses to a Chelsea Mid or Bale for a 12 point hit.

            This leaves:

            Vorm
            Williamson, Skrtel, BAE/Walker
            Bale/Valencia, VDV, Siggy, Dempsey
            RVP, Cisse, Jelavic

            Subs: Moses/Valencia, Kelly, Evans, Sorensen

What are you doing for the DGW?

Yeah i was close to saying that one as well. It's class.

As for the DGW, just looking over it now. Rooney and Kompany will also be departing my squad, although no real idea of who's coming in yet. Don't much fancy Spurs clean sheet potential so doubt i'll be going there although Adebayor and VDV are definite possibilities.

May look at a Chelsea player or two if i can work out who might be safe from rotation. Terry maybe?

I think Cech is the only one safe from rotation. When Ivanovic comes back from suspension or Luiz comes back from injury I think Terry will be benched.

Team linked, 3.1M in bank. Just playing to improve my rank now. I have leads of 81 and 45 before updates. I was also chasing 62pts but my leader had the foresight to buy Cabaye, we are on similar scores for the GW but he has more to play so he should win now.

    Contemplating this for a -4.

He bought Cabaye in this week! This guy is some kind of fantasy hero.

I\d take VDV for the simple reason that he is won't see the rotation that Chelsea players will. Of course it's still VDV so it's always a nervous wait for the line ups when you own him

He hadnt touched his team for 4 of last 6 weeks. Then he does this to me! Could not believe this, but I will be humble in defeat as he has been better. 2/3 mini league wins is great considering the deficits I have chased.

My thoughts are on VDV, but I am not sure if way spurs are playing I can justify a -4 for him.

Just checked our your team. Aguero > Jelavic looks good but the McClean transfer is only worth it if you're prepared to bench Valencia (assuming you'd play RVP, Siggy, Bale, Dempsey and whoever you're transferring in).

As for those midfielders, you have Bale so I'd rule out VDV so I'd certainly go for one of the Chelsea lads. I'm leaning towards Mata personally as Lamps hasn't really done enough to justify his price tag this season.

I would indeed bench Valencia for the city game.

I would prefer a mata that will play both games over VDV in current form, but I will get no indication that I will get that. So I am in a pickle and even thinking of doing Aguero--->Jelavic only. Then leaving 6DGW and 8.5M in bank.

Have you considered Pienaar and Jellyfish? I sure am, just not convinced with Mata/Lampard due to rotation. VDV could be a good option depending on your situation. I already have Ade and Bale so I won't be getting him in. I think Pienaar and Jellyfish for me.

I have but I am not sure I have that much faith in Everton to score enough to warrant both of them in my squad. I know they have Wolves after but still not convinced.

Mini leagues have been won and lost, last 16 PP cup is in the balance so I could have nothing to play for apart from rank.

Is anyone here a little concerned with Cisse possibly having more game time on the left wing? Once he got his goal he swapped with Ba so he could have a turn leading the line. I have no doubt Cisse would have got more points had he stayed as the main striker for the duration of the match.

Am playing Krul and Simpson. I would certainly play Krul over Vorm.

Get rid of Ade and play Bale, IMO.

Play both unless you are on a WC. Ade out if on WC.

so i have most of my team figured out for next gw. the only problem is deciding whether to play caulker or verm. currently, i'm playing verm (especially to spread the risk since i have vorm in net)

    vorm
    verm, cahill, jags
    bale, pienaar, dempsey, sig
    rvp, cisse, rooney

    bench: mig, caulker, valencia, evans.

what do do you think? anything i should change around?

Ok peoples... a little expert advice would be great... please?

My rank is dreadful, (as you can see) as I have not been able to play much of this season, but I am keen to improve what I have.
So basically my transfers will come down to this... I can't upgrade my side without freeing up some cash from my front line, but who in your opinion should exit out of Aguerro, RVP, and Ade?

For me, I am wary of taking out Ade being he is a 'possible' DGWer.
If I take out RVP I probably won't be able to get him back (which may work out to be ok).
Aguerro is in form but looking most likely to be transfered.

What do you all think? Any thoughts at all will be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance ๐Ÿ™‚

DGWer or not, Ade is the man to lose. Jelly would be a good replacement with good fixtures and a DGW. That would free up about 3m.

Ready to recieve his 4 points ๐Ÿ˜€ Friedel...my DGWer keeper. Doubt I could have made a worse choice.

They will keep 2 clean sheets between now and the end of the season imo. Friedel was terrible today though.

One lives in hope. What a steaming pile of manure that team has become, though.

            +1

They did this last year, too.

They just need a new coaching team, CBs, and strikers and they'll be close to respectable. Sad really.
