Scout Picks

Double Gameweek 29 Scout Picks includes Arsenal triple-up

There are three Arsenal players in the Scout Picks team selected for Double Gameweek 29.

The Gunners host West Ham at first before travelling to Manchester City in midweek.

After deliberating over the Scout Squad submissions made by David, Neale, Paul and Geoff, we picked what we believed to be the best XI for the next round of action.

This time we line up in 3-4-3 formation, the cost of our team coming to £84.8m, £0.2m inside our budget of £85.0m.

Goalkeeper

Dean Henderson (£5.2m) was the most popular goalkeeper in the Scout Squad submissions this week as Sheffield United host Norwich. Only three clubs have recorded more clean sheets at home than the Blades this season while the visiting Canaries remain comfortably the worst attack on the road. In 14 road trips, Norwich have scored just six times, five fewer than Bournemouth and Watford, who are tied as the second-worst sides on 11 goals each.

Defenders

Alexander-Arnold's consistency continues as Firmino unlucky to blank

Trent Alexander-Arnold (£7.8m) was unanimously chosen as the best defender by our Scout Squad pundits this week. Blank Gameweek 28 may have produced his first blank in a match he started since Gameweek 13 but the visit of Bournemouth should help him get back on track. The Cherries have scored one away goal since Gameweek 18 and Alexander-Arnold himself has more assists at home than any other Liverpool player this season.

Matt Doherty (£6.2m) looks like he could repeat the heroics of his Blank Gameweek 28 haul at Spurs when Brighton come to Molineux on Saturday afternoon. Over the last four matches, Wolves are second only to Manchester City for fewest big chances conceded, while Doherty is in the top two for touches and shots in the box among defenders during that time.

Jack Stephens (£4.5m) gets into the Scout Picks this weekend ahead of a favourable home meeting with Newcastle. The Magpies currently sit bottom of the league for big chances in away matches this season while the Saints’ centre-back has assisted twice since Gameweek 21.

Midfielders

Mohamed Salah (£12.8m) retains his place in the Scout Picks despite Liverpool’s capitulation at Watford last time out. The Egyptian has recorded attacking returns in each of his last four at Anfield, where Bournemouth have lost their last two Premier League visits 3-0. Furthermore, over their last four road trips, the Cherries have conceded 10 times, an average of 2.5 per game.

In his Friday press conference, Pep Guardiola sounded relatively positive when he gave his injury update on Kevin De Bruyne (£10.7m). The Belgian holds onto his place in the predicted line-ups and retains a starting berth in the Scout Picks too. We expect this season’s top-scoring player to be involved in at least one of the Double Gameweek fixtures on offer (maybe more), which is about the same as what we can expect from any of his attacking team-mates anyway given Guardiola’s rotation policy.

Two matches in Double Gameweek 29 for Arsenal sees Nicolas Pépé (£9.2m) make his Scout Picks debut. West Ham have conceded the most shots in the box of any team over their last four outings, while it’s hard to fully trust a Manchester City defence without Aymeric Laporte. That bodes well for Pépé who, over the last 10 matches, is second among his colleagues for goals scored while no Arsenal player has registered more assists than him.

Bukayo Saka (£4.6m) is our midfield enabler who we are confident will play twice in Double Gameweek 29. While he has been playing at left-back recently, Aubameyang’s runs into the box from left midfield have allowed Saka into very advanced positions – which have helped him to attacking returns in each of his last three at home.

Forwards

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£11.1m) is an easy inclusion in the Scout Picks this week, selected as the best forward by all of our pundits. The Arsenal man is just five points off Jamie Vardy to be the top-scoring forward this season and has found the net three times in his last two at home.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin (£6.4m) is the form player in the Premier League right now, having scored more goals than any other player since Carlo Ancelotti took over at Everton. Chelsea have kept just one clean sheet at home since Gameweek 13, and over the last four matches, Calvert-Lewin is in the top three for shots in the box, big chances and shots on target.

Diogo Jota (£6.3m) proved to be the most popular Wolves forward among the Scout Squad pundits this week as Brighton come to Molineux. The Portuguese international has put together two double-digit hauls in a row and, over the last four matches, has superior figures for minutes per shot in the box and minutes per big chance than Raúl Jiménez.

Substitutes

Alex McCarthy (£4.5m) is another route into the Southampton defence as they host Newcastle on Saturday.

Enda Stevens (£5.1m) is a cheaper alternative for investing in the Sheffield United defence with more chances of attacking returns than Henderson.

Romain Saïss (£4.5m) is the cheaper route into the Wolves defence with some threat from set pieces too.

Phil Foden (£5.1m) is our budget route into the Manchester City attack after Guardiola hinted that he would play some part in Double Gameweek 29.

The Captain

The Scout Picks has a captain for the 2019/20 campaign.

This skipper is chosen using the conclusions of the latest Captain Sensible article and a four-way vote between David, Neale, Paul and Geoff.

Because the use of Fantasy Football Scout data is used so heavily in this process, the captain we choose each Gameweek is usually known only to those who have signed up to Membership for the 2019/20 season and revealed to the public only when the deadline has passed.

Here’s how we voted:

Community Champion

Representing the community against the Scout Picks in Double Gameweek 29 is Bilal7.

They have gone for a 3-4-3 of McCarthy; Doherty, Mendy, Saïss; Salah, De Bruyne, Pépé (c), Mahrez; Aubameyang, Calvert-Lewin, Nketiah.

The community member who beats our picks by the biggest margin over the campaign will win a £100 Amazon Voucher and a place in our Contributors and Moderators League for the following season.

ZoumasBloomers was beaten in Double Gameweek 28, the Scout Picks winning by a 47-30 score-line.

Community Champion gwitbrock beat our Scout Picks 86-63 in Gameweek 25 and as a result, their winning margin of 23 points is now the target to beat.

    A) Richarlison, Pereira
    B) Mahrez -4, Pereira
    C) Pepe -4, O'Connell

Long post for a Friday night (I apologise in advance) but here goes.. I've got my FH, BB and WC still left. I've decided to work around BGW with FTs and hits. So I'll FH34, WC 36 and BB37.. This is my current team..

    Ryan - McGovern
    Kelly - Trent - Lascelles - Stephens - Saiss
    Salah - Mane - KdB - Cantwell - Fleck
    Vardy - Ings - Jimenez

I know I'm going to have to take multiple hits (maybe a -12 over the coming weeks) to get a respectable team out in GW31. Considering the players I'm losing don't play, I kind of don't mind. The question really revolves around getting Auba in this week. I've mapped out two options to try and work out the transfers from now until then..

    Option A - WITHOUT Auba

    GW29 - Saiss + Vardy to Doherty + Jota
30 - Fleck to Sarr (possibly Kelly to Feminia, too)
    31 - Ings + Ryan to Deeney + Pope

A -4 every week would make -12 to field 9 or 10. I know Saiss to Doherty is maybe a slightly sideways -4 but if I'm not getting Auba I want to benefit somewhere. Obviously this option runs the risk of not going with Auba for the next two weeks when he has three games..

    Or...

    Option B - WITH Auba

    29 - Vardy + Jimenez to Auba + Jota
    30 - Bank the transfer
    31 - Ryan + Fleck + Auba + Ings > Pope + Sarr + Jimenez + Deeney

Ultimately this will let me attack the DGW with captain Auba, also the nice fixture for Arsenal in GW30. The hits are the same (-12), and the players end up quite similar. With option B, I would never own Doherty and would lose Jimenez for two weeks, but as stated, gain Auba.

Sorry for the long post, but this has got me questioning and double questioning myself. Anyone got any thoughts on what option to go through with?

Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Thanks Kuzser. It's only really tonight I've talked myself into working around the BGW with FTs and set to work a plan of not having Auba. I was all settled on option A then in the last hour or so have gone back and tried to work a way in which I can still have a fairly respectable team in GW31, but also own Auba this GW as it could be a killer with people captaining and TC'ing him and I haven't even got him in the squad. Not to mention a fairly nice game with Brighton in 30. Trying to do all this and keep the hits below crazy levels as well. B is the best I can come up with. I'd like to have Jimenez but something has got to give for Auba and Jota is in fine form also.

Completely understand you. I’m on a wc and missing around. 0.7 from the team I want. So looking at going ahead with Dcl instead of Jimi, as I got him early and will get Jimi for Auba in gw31.
In think you need Auba. If he hauls and you don’t have him it’s a massive rank drop

I lost track a bit (v tired) but I would just FH31. It makes things a lot easier and could save you points hits. Sorry if I don't seem much help.

No, I appreciate all comments mate. I was going to FH in 31 but thought in all honesty there's only so many players who can really hurt in GW31 in my opinion. I already own a fair chunk of them (3 LIV and 2 WOL) with three weeks to build onto them. I'd be wary of not owning any Spurs assets as that could come back to bite me, but feel the FH in DG34 could be more beneficial.

Yeah Spurs players are horrible but that's actually one reason I think i'm free hitting. You can get them for just that one week then they're gone! Yay!

Agree with that. If I FH I would get Aurier, Alli and Moura from Spurs, but with this team I get Sarr, Deeney and Jota. Speaking purely for GW31, I don't think there would be much difference in either 3, points-wise. Granted, Spurs have a very nice fixture against WHU, but I am just not sold on Mourinho's Spurs right now. I think West Ham won there last season too and it wouldn't stun me if defensive Moyes set them up to get something again, especially with no Kane or Son. I think this ultimately comes down to I don't really want to use my FH for Spurs players (as I'd have most others through transfers).

I agree with Ragabolly below. You may actually save yourself points hits by free hitting GW31. Sure, you may need some for GW34 but that's currently uncertain.

FH31 and save yourself the headache. Invest in the current moment as things usually change too much for future planning

Thanks Ragabolly, although I'm already headache deep in this team to save myself any trouble. Ha ha! If Liverpool were not playing in 31 it wouldn't be a question but with me still having the 3 main players for LIV, and a couple of Wolves, I dabbled with trying to work around it and was surprised that I didn't really have to move heaven and earth to get a canny team for 31.

I thought about it a lot and then decided to FH31. I would be missing potential DGW29 hauls if I focus on 31. Also multiple hits needed. Also an injury/suspension between now and 31 causes more hits. All that for a promised dgw that no one knows how it will look or whether teams will actually field their strongest.

That's my two cents for a team who's similar to yours

I absolutely appreciate the advice mate and can see why you're FH'ing in 31 in all honesty. The fallback option if the DGW34 turned out to be a damp squib would be FH in GW38 when things are a bit clearer for one week. I just think if a couple of fairly decent teams get a double in 34 (I'm thinking EVE, CHE, MUN) then it would be more beneficial attacking those doubles with the likes of DLC, Alonso and Fernandes than using it for primarily Spurs players in 31.

Once again I appreciate the advice and I'm just playing devils advocate. Your plan is solid and should pick up hefty points in 31.

Option B transfers this week seem ok. Auba could be great, and it could be a liability not to have him for the next two gws, and Vardy could be nothing again. The Wolves swap over could be anything but I think that's worth a -4.

Thanks Syke. With all 3 options in play (A, B and FH'ing in 31) I do think I'm leaning more towards B. Aubameyang would be a -4, yes. But I plan on captaining him to take away some of the points loss, and then keeping him for 30 against Brighton could also work out. Jota to Jimenez is just cover really but also trying to cash in on a player in top form. Ideally I'd never want to lose Jimenez but have decent team value and will able to bring him back in a few weeks for BGW31.

Am I crazy for thinking of taking Saka, Pepe, Auba in for Mane, Ings and Fernandes for -8? TC on Auba in this case
Thats the only way for me to get Auba and Pepe. I will use FH in GW31
Or should I just take Pepe for Mane and be more sensible?

Perez. Saka will get what? 3-4 points playing at left back. Perez could do damage against that woeful Villa defence. Don’t be blinded by the double

I think FH 31 makes most sense. (If I’ve used wildcard)
Let’s you set up your team I. These weeks for the doubles and not have to stock up on players without double. Also double 34 looks smaller so easier to prepare for

That's how I see it too but I only have 3 currently playing in gw31 so it was a no brainer. Squad will be loaded with dgw players by default and not stuck with dross that has no ggw

    Hi Guys,

On FT, Vardy or Firmino >> Aubameyang? or Keep tranfer? Currently only have KDB for DGW.

    Please advise. Thank you.
