No Premier League football before April 30 but plans remain to finish the season

There will be no professional football played in England until the end of April at the earliest, the game’s governing bodies announced on Thursday.

A commitment to finishing the 2019/20 domestic campaign was reiterated, however, with the original June 1 deadline extended “indefinitely” to accommodate any outstanding fixtures.

Those were the two main takeaway points for Fantasy managers from the meeting between the Premier League and other administrative parties earlier today, although, with so much still unknown surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic, the usual disclaimers apply.

In a joint statement, the Football Association, the Premier League, EFL, the women’s professional game, the PFA and the LMA said:

We are united in our commitment to finding ways of resuming the 2019/20 football season and ensuring all domestic and European club league and cup matches are played as soon as it is safe and possible to do so.

We have collectively supported UEFA in postponing Euro 2020 to create space in the calendar to ensure domestic and European club league and cup matches have an increased opportunity to be played and, in doing so, maintain the integrity of each competition.

The FA’s Rules and Regulations state that “the season shall terminate not later than the 1 June” and “each competition shall, within the limit laid down by The FA, determine the length of its own playing season”.

However, The FA’s Board has agreed for this limit to be extended indefinitely for the 2019/20 season in relation to Professional Football.

Additionally, we have collectively agreed that the professional game in England will be further postponed until no earlier than 30 April.

The progress of COVID-19 remains unclear and we can reassure everyone the health and welfare of players, staff and supporters are our priority.

We will continue to follow Government advice and work collaboratively to keep the situation under review and explore all options available to find ways of resuming the season when the conditions allow.

As things stand in Fantasy Premier League, everything up to and including Gameweek 35 would be affected.

Whether FPL retains the current Gameweek deadlines is another question, however, and there will surely be a further announcement off the back of Thursday’s developments.

So far as we know, the Gameweek 31 deadline – which is set for Friday at 19:00 GMT – will pass as scheduled, with no fixtures taking place but the usual rules surrounding free transfers, points hits and head-to-head scores still applying.

An international break would have followed anyway, so we can likely expect some decision from FPL towers long before Gameweek 32 was originally intended to get underway on April 4.

The two options would be to shift the Gameweek deadlines back to when play resumes (whenever that may be) or to keep as is, thus creating three bumper Gameweeks – including a massive Gameweek 38 – at the season’s end.

That last, increasingly unlikely scenario relies on play actually getting back underway at the start of May, too, which there must be still some doubt about given the projected spread of COVID-19.

Further disruption will potentially occur, then, before we see a ball kicked again.

Just want to make sure that I understood correctly... as it currently stands it appears as if Gameweek 30 will be pushed back and simply played on the weekend of April 30th?

I don’t think so. I think they are saying, at the moment gw36 onwards fixtures stand as is. Update to follow.

I remember 16/17 Marco Silva came in Hull, did very weel, they had 2 consecutive clean sheets with sunderland up next at home....
So I decided to triple up on hul defence, Maguire, Robertson and some cheap 4.something, well anyway they lost 2-0 to Sunderland, who were pretty much down already..

Just to make sure I understand correctly:

We’re given free transfers for every deadline still, so in principle we can «slow wildcard» our teams until PL matches actually resume?

Yes although you will suffer a slight drop in overall rank and won't get to see a game week rank of 1 (not that the game week rank matters of course)

When players are on the same points number of transfers made is one of the deciders. Lower transfers means better rank.

Why does losing game rank in a get there are no fixtures matter? You can use FTs to improve team and be in good position when things resume. If/when it does most weeks will be Double Gameweeks so be needing Willard & chips.

And worth noting, that does include wildcards. So if you did an efficient non-tinkering first wildcard and haven’t used your second one yet, you could be well ahead on transfers from someone who has used both so far and tinkered in and out with lots of transfers.

I should use FT as I've 2 atm. 0.2 itb

    Pope - Button
    TAA - Lascelles - Boly - Taylor - Rico
    Mane - Salah - KdB - Barnes - Traore
    Auba - DCL - Ings

I prob should downgrade Barnes or Traore to cheap 5th mid and then upgrade in defence or attack. Any suggestions? Though I don't know if this is a good plan.

Following our statement today on the postponement of all Premier League fixtures until at least 30 April 2020, here is how it will affect Fantasy Premier League.

The deadlines for the following Gameweeks will remain at their scheduled times:

    GW31 - Fri 20 Mar 19:00 GMT
    GW32 - Sat 4 Apr 11:30 BST
    GW33 - Fri 10 Apr 19:00 BST
    GW34 - Sat 18 Apr 11:30 BST
    GW35 - Sat 25 Apr 11:30 BST

Any activity FPL managers undertake ahead of each deadline will apply to that specific Gameweek.

Given each fixture in these Gameweeks has been postponed, all players will earn zero points.

For FPL managers who took a points hit for transfers, their Gameweek scores will reflect the points they lost.

There will definitely be a way but maybe they think it's more trouble than it's worth.

Perhaps they might have done something if it wasn't a free game and/or if there was a decent prize at stake.

Because maybe they need time to develop next season's game so they can release it before next season to get the numbers. Be suprised if they continue after gw38. IF the league doesn't finish till june ( big if it will continue at all) then that leaves them less than 2 months to sort the game for next season and release it in time to get the massive numbers

If I’m reading the FPL announcement correct- it means that at most we will have actual games in GW36, GW37 and GW38?

If so (and assuming no extra GW’s are added), then for those with FH, WC, BB left there is literally no point making any transfers now is there?

Incase they decide to add extra GWs or whatever. If that happens, unlikely but could happen, then that could change your chip plan.

May as well sort out any dead/crap players in the meanwhile.

If (and big if) they were played it probably makes sense to WC36, BB37, FH38.

There'd be a minor advantage in 36 over those who'd tweaked their team using free transfers over empty gameweeks.

If GW38 has like 6+ games then that has to be BB week. It’s potentially 24+ more games than non BB players. That’s 50+ point head start!

Surely the priority has to be BB38 - given that it could well have 60 fixtures in it!!!!

I was thinking (assuming any football is ever played again):
FH36; Risk free, in case starting line ups/form have changed after our enforced closed season.
WC37; Hit go as soon as the deadline of GW36 ticks over - catch all (or as many) of the price rises.
BB38; 15 players, some playing 5/6 times - quids in.

Yep good point, means you can use your FTs up to 36 now and if it all goes to the dogs, FH in 36

            Or just save them!
            If you FH36 - there’s no point tfr-ing beforehand.
I don’t see another price change happening until someone kicks a ball, so you don’t need to ‘catch a rise/fall’

So if we have any free transfers, is there any logic to who we should be targeting?
My team was in a reasonable shape, especially for blank gameweek 31 but I don't want to lose the free transfers unnecessarily.

Target players with good injury histories that are nailed on to play and will still have something to play for later in the season.

You are essentially building to a set and forget game week 38 so you want to minimise your risk, preferably with bench boost in hand.

    An update from Barnet TK

    https://www.barnetfc.com/news/2020/march/club-statement/?fbclid=IwAR30uovA8ZC-xi-zEu8WkOMVvGkaao_9vni_beDZDhQxYjNWUQoMzyR1gcA

Basically our Academy was going to have to get shut if we dont get promoted this year anyway as the FA have stupid rules. We have some of the best facilities and early youth development in the country. But league status apparently matters greatly.

    BS

Hard times, the FA should take this opportunity to add the National League to the top four tiers of the English football system, it's a disgrace (and has been for many years) that non-league teams have to play in a nationwide league anyways especially given that so few promotion slots are available.

I hope of those millions that footballers earn, they will actually help these lower end clubs. Easy to say when you're not part of it but giving back to footballing ecosystem makes sense.

They're not allowed to help. I understand why but this is an extreme situation.

Okay will watch for the reasons. I think they should relax the rules though

Yeah definitely. Or the top leagues should just put their hands in their pockets and help themselves. And the TV broadcasters.

It's probably me that's wrong. I could have sworn when Bury were about to go bust that there were details about other clubs not being able to help.

Arsenal used to help us with youth loans. Something must have gone wrong at some point. I remember them sending Gavin Hoyte to Lincoln when we desperately needed a fullback.

The treatment with a combination of malaria medicine and certian antibiotics has been tested on 20 people infected with corona with all of them recovering, that's 100 % success rate. However this is still early and a very small sample. Feeling hopeful tho'...

Hopefully they're upto something. But what if it's only acting like other normal medicines which adds to our immunity instead of curing the exact virus 😮

My knowledge of this is zero so don't know ...

I'm far from an expert too, can't say much about something in that early stages. Hopefully on to something however. Latest on this is that one patient died, doesn't seem effective on the patients in critical stages. More to follow...

Used to take mad hits & keep dreaming that one day i will get GWR 1 😀
It's incoming now although it doesn't matter but in hindsight I'm actually fulfilling my fantasy !
Don't want to post BS during such tough times but hey ho nobody will in this world apart from guys here would understand it.

    Hi all

I have 2 FTs, do I need to use one in order to roll the other one to next GW? Or are FTs just being rolled forward, so I would have 3 next week

    Thanks
