Missing the dizzying highs, the terrifying lows and the creamy middles of Fantasy Premier League?

Scoutcasters Az and David certainly are, and they’ve decided to simulate the rest of the 2019/20 campaign on the popular computer game, Football Manager.

To add an extra dimension, each round of action will see David’s Scout Picks selections go up against a community team headed by Az.

They’ll be using FPL’s scoring system to determine who wins and there are more details on how this works in our introductory article here.

Gameweek 31 is next up for the pair and yesterday Az asked you to help him with some 50/50 selection calls.

Now the head of the community team wants you to pick his captain for his forthcoming head to head with David.

Gameweek 31 in our Football Manager simulation, as would have been the case in real life, is a Blank Gameweek, with five fixtures postponed because of the clash with the FA Cup quarter-finals – although the league matches that have survived are different in this virtual world.

The games going ahead are:

Burnley v Watford
Manchester United v Sheffield United
Wolves v Bournemouth
Leicester v Brighton
Norwich v Everton

AZ’S COMMUNITY TEAM

Based on the results of Wednesday’s polls, Az’s Gameweek 31 team is now as follows:

  • Pope (WAT)
  • Maguire (SHU)
  • Doherty (BOU)
  • Pereira (BHA)
  • Mac Allister (lei)
  • Maddison (BRI)
  • Martial (SHU)
  • Richarlison (nor)
  • Jimenez (BOU)
  • Wood (WAT)
  • Rashford (SHU)

Vote on Az’s Captain

Az has narrowed his captaincy shortlist down to four candidates and you can vote for your preferred option below:

Tune in to our YouTube channel on Saturday to see how the simulation of Blank Gameweek 31 pans out.

I'm getting closer to downloading FM2020 with each passing day

Too bad my laptop is from 2014 & would probably struggle with one background league let alone 10-15

For that reason I'm playing CM01/02 with recent squads and patches from champman.
One issue I have hot with it though is the high number of players with many 20's in their atribute stats - not sure who is deciding about it but pretty sure it was more subtle in original game.

Might look into that - loved CM01/02 back in the day

Wigan were always a great project - from Division 2 to Champions league within 4-5 seasons

Dave Whelan's £15m cash injections at the end of every year padding the team out with bulk-bought Nordic, African & European-Passport holding South American wonderkids

Hopefully we'll have some CAs up on it soon 🙂

Am I correct in saying it's a league that's less likely to be affected by CV than others? Thought I read something about Sweden taking a pretty relaxed approach to it all.

I'm not sure. Sweden's approach has been more "relaxed" than in Norway and Denmark, but I don't know how/if that will affect football. In any case, all Fantasy deadlines have been postponed until the beginning of June, according to the Allsvenskan site.

The government announced the other day to postpone all sporting events. So it’s still affected. No lockdown yet, but tension and pressure on government to act is rising.

Kacaniklic at 10.0 a must have 😉 Kujovic also in for a fine season I think, as could Jóhannsson be if he keeps starting for Hammarby up top...

Looking forward to the new season, whenever it might start. We’ll probably have an article up at the start of next week as an introduction.

Hoping the community around it grows even bigger this year! 🙂

Looking forward to reading that article, Meltens! 😀

I'm trying to complete a draft which includes Tankovic and Kačaniklić. So far, no luck in managing that! Who do you think will be the best pick out of Kujovic and Holmberg?

Personally I suspect Tank might be slightly overpriced this season as he’s likely to leave when the transfer window opens, and he was not at all as good the second half of the season but we’ll see 🙂

Kujovic no doubt imo, Holmberg will mostly play as a “ten” and Kujo will be on the end of most crosses. Price difference is too small.

            • 7 Years

Tank is definitely pricy, which leaves the question if he's worth 11.0 (especially if he's likely to leave). High ownership is a given though, so I fear going without!

Thanks! I have Holmberg in my team at the moment, but if I can find an additional 1.0, Kujovic is likely to be in my team. 🙂

If it ever matters, which United defender:

    A) AWB
    B) Maguire

Hardly any difference, take your pick.

They have 3 goal returns between them in 4,940 minutes..or if you like, 55 appearances. So you're only getting them for clean sheets anyway.

AWB for me as he's more likely to get BPS.

Either works I think. I'll probably end up with A, but not ruling out DDG either as the defenders don't offer *that* much more.

Saints players, coaches and directors have agreed to a 3 month deferral so non-playing staff can be 100% of their salaries.

    Classy from Saints

Does deferral mean they're still expecting to get paid fully at some point though?

Yes, they'll be paid whatever they've sacrificed 3 months from now. Might sound easy giving their wages, but they're the only PL club to do it so far. Protects the non playing staffs jobs.

Be even better if they gave up a small amount which would easily cover the lower paid staff though, rather than saying they still want it all later

I don't see why they should. Nine gameweeks shouldn't be too hard to juggle, and they'll probably bung some players a lifeline anyway.

      First draft team:

      Haugaard
      Käck Michel Ahmedhodzic
      Christiansen Kačaniklić Ylätupa Haksabanovic
      Moro Paulinho Kadiri

      Törnqvist van Looy Löfgren Wede

Plenty to change when we get an idea of how the fixtures will unfold.

Really interested in the Ylätupa, van Looy, Moro picks. I think they could be absolute bargains!

Michel doesn’t start and is a placeholder.

Working on my slow wildcard at the moment - Confused as to how I should use my 1 FT.

    Guaita/Button
    TAA/Soyuncu/Doherty/Cresswell/Mings
    Salah/Martial/Fernandes/Sarr/Cantwell
    Auba/DCL/Jimenez

    Guaita to Pope/Henderson?
    Mings to Egan?

Not convinced about Vardy on a slow wildcard. Fixtures aren't as good as some people think and he's not really been showing a lot of form before the suspension. Am I wrong?

I think you can push form back in your thinking with such a big gap forming, but he definitely hasn't been that high in my thinking.

There's a good few forward options to go with right now - Jimenez, Abraham, perhaps Rashford, Ings, DCL etc who all come in cheaper and look decent options.

Once you consider the raft of more expensive midfield options (Salah, Mane, KDB, B Fernandes, Martial, Son and whoever else) I'm pretty set on the cheaper options so I can load elsewhere. Can't have them all, and sadly Vardy isn't close to getting a look in yet for me. May all change with fixtures though, but we'll see.

I wouldn't bother if I were you guys...

What is there to say that's Fantasy football related? It's going to be June at the earliest before we get any football.

And, as much as I like watching your channel and the Scoutcast, I'm not going to tune in just for your banter and chit chat.

By the way, I'm not having a go, I know you guys have got to keep on trying to produce content and get through this with your jobs intact. But still, a scoutcast is totally uneccessary at this point.

Hopefully I'll be tuning in again in May sometime....

Afternoon Andy, hope you and those around you are well at this time. I can't believe how much I still habitually check this site despite there being footy/FPL. Good to hear you are all doing a scout cast.

Be interesting to know which form players you may have been considering before the season was postponed and if your intended targets have now changed given the impact this delay will have had on momentum. Maybe look at any high risk high reward players you would consider or those due a return from long term injury, perhaps the likes of Sane, Kane, Son, Rashford etc.

So many unknowns about how the season will conclude or if it does at all but I remain hopeful and it's still good fun to consider options and keep FPL deliberations alive. Have made a few transfers already as part of a 'slow wild card' with Bruno, DCL & Pope now on board.

      All the best.

This is probably the most interesting thing we're going to get. I think the FPL gameweeks past 35 will be treated just like 31-35, so we'll get to 37 and there will be no fixtures in it, so then what do we do in case 38 does end up having fixtures in it.

Although it could all be moot, as if they have 0 fixtures in 37 they'll almost certainly tell us what is going to happen in 38.

Assuming that the Premier League will resume, but not till after the GW38 deadline, is FPL Towers going to let us know before then whether further game-weeks will be added after GW38 or will all remaining matches be placed in a mammoth GW38?

We need to know before then so that we know whether to play our Bench Boost in GW38 or save it for later.

If the remaining premier league games are going to be completed as quickly as possibly, are centre halves and talismen like Zaha and Grealish the only players who are immune to rotation and likely to play all the games?

If Liverpool get the two wins they need, will Liverpool assets become redundant? Will Klopp really care about records given how tainted the season has become by the current health crisis?

Which players should FPL managers on a slow Wildcard be bringing in?

Please sing a song for all of us to spread joy in these depressing times.

And yeah, talking of FPL, do you guys think that whenever the season resumes, it will be like a new season with form and and FPL points till GW 29 of 19/20 season quite meaningless from a trend analysis perspective. The break is long enough to ensure that players/teams who were out of form so far come back mentally rejuvenated and some other form players/teams lose their rhythm.

Welcome return, and I hope you're all in good health.

Almost impossible to predict how FPL will structure the remaining gameweeks until they have the fixtures in.

But for those still taking the season seriously, should we perhaps now be using any free transfers to bolster our squads based on a flat succession of remaining fixtures (much as we'd start the season), with any prospect of DGWs resigned to the past?

Just seems wasteful to be ignoring our free transfers.
