With games against Blackburn at home and Bolton away, Tottenham have two of the best fixtures of the eight double Gameweek sides. A few weeks back, Fantasy managers would have been desperate to shoehorn three Spurs players into their squads but form has proved a cruel mistress in recent weeks. Surely, you’d think, this double Gameweek affords Harry Redknapp’s side a chance to turn around their dwindling fortunes?

The Prospects

Two wins in the last ten games tells a terrible story for the North London outfit. During this appalling run they have been beaten five times, including defeats at QPR and at home to Norwich, as well as conceding 14 goals. Similar to QPR, both Blackburn and Bolton are also fighting relegation, indicating Spurs may be in for a scrap, but a look at both sides’ defensive displays offers plenty optimism for Redknapp’s troops as they look to get their Champions League bid back on track.

Blackburn have kept just three clean sheets this campaign and shipped 73 goals – 41 of those have come on the road, the worst away record of any side in the league. Steve Kean’s side have recorded a single clean sheet away all season and have shipped two or more goals in four of the last five on their travels, strongly suggesting that goals could be on the agenda for the home side next Sunday at the Lane. In terms of goals scored, Rovers have failed to notch in three of their last five on the road, scoring just three times – two of those came at Molineux against relegated Wolves. Fantasy owners have every reason to be hopeful of a home clean sheet here.

Bolton have been similarly poor for defensive returns – Owen Coyle’s have also kept just three clean sheets this season, with a total of 66 goals conceded. The Trotters have returned a single clean sheet since Gameweek 11 and have shipped two or more goals in seven of the last ten Gameweeks. Having found the net in three of their last four at the Reebok, however, defensive returns for the visitors may not be quite so straightforward next Wednesday.

The Likely Lads

Reports earlier this week of a dressing room bust up between on-loan striker Emmanuel Adebayor and Spurs manager Harry Redknapp have yet to be confirmed by either camp, given the gossip little foundation at present. More concrete was today’s news that the Togo international is expected to overcome the hamstring problem that forced him out of last weekend’s trip to QPR. Should Adebayor – who is the fourth best striker in terms of total points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) – take to the pitch, he has the potential for a huge haul. Already he has 13 goals, 12 assists, 24 bonus points and five double digit weekly points totals to his name. If, however, Adebayor fails to make it for this Gameweek, given that Louis Saha is also a doubt with a groin problem, Jermaine Defoe may find himself as the only forward available to Redknapp.

The stock of Spurs’ forward thinking midfielder Rafael Van Der Vaart would also rise considerably if Adebayor is out of the picture, as he is certain to be handed spot kick duties. Among the Spurs midfield, Van Der Vaart has also shown the most promise in recent weeks, giving the 9.5m priced Dutchman strong potential to add to his nine goals, five assists, 23 bonus points and six double digit points hauls.

With 36.9% ownership, there are plenty of managers hoping Gareth Bale can replicate his form of earlier in the season – only Wayne Rooney has more owners than the 9.2 priced Welshman. With 176 points, he has the second best points tally for a midfielder in the FPL game, having returned 10 goals, 11 assists and 21 bonus points. Despite some eye catching runs from midfield into opponents’ penalty boxes in recent matches, his form is nothing short of terrible, averaging just three points a game in the last 10 Gameweeks. Aaron Lennon also has the potential to produce in the midfield but, with game time far from guaranteed, it’d be more than just a punt to consider snapping him up.

Patched up is a fair description of the Spurs defence. Ledley King is unlikely to play twice during Gameweek 36 due to his ongoing knee problem, Michael Dawson is out for the season, though Younes Kaboul could be set to return from a knee problem, despite being ruled out by Redknapp earlier in the week. It leaves William Gallas as the only centre-half likely to feature twice – the former Arsenal man has started three of the last four and, at just 4.6, offers a cut-price route into the back-four. His prospects would certainly be boosted if Kaboul does, indeed, overcome his knee injury.

With Benoit Assou-Ekotto a major doubt due to a shoulder problem, we’re overlooking the left-back’s obvious potential. Instead, we’re looking at Kyle Walker. The 6.1 priced right-back has returned 121 points so far, providing with one goal, one assist and five bonus points to date. Brad Friedel also offers potential – the 5.7 priced veteran has returned 134 points and accrued 110 saves this term and has played every minute of his side’s campaign.

Cheeky Punts

So often the man who assists the assist, Luka Modric tends to miss out on the points hauls his team mates have enjoyed during the season. Nevertheless his three goals, six assists and 11 bonus points cannot be dismissed. Priced at 7.9, he has started all but two games and has achieved double digit gameweeks on two occasions.

    Who would win in this case?
    A - Bale (c) - Mata - Rooney - Dyer
    B - VdV (c) - Ade - Jelly - Sess
    A is my oponent and I am behind 20 points.So, am I in better position with B team or him ?

          I think B regardless. It is safe to assume Ade and Mata will play an equal amount of minutes, and I expect Jelavic to outscore rooney and sess to outscore dyer. I also fancy VDV to outscore Bale so if i'm right you should be sorted!

    kv25561z SAYS : April 30 at 7:16pm

    "Hi. I'm on 73 points and have 9 DGWers left to go including my captain. Is this any good ? Will I get a green arrow ??"

    *please note, I've never posted on here before, or at best, only post on here when I get a good score, which is once every seven weeks. I haven't linked my team as I'm afraid my ML rivals will see it, even though I'm ranked 560,000. Now I come to think of it none of my ML rivals even know this place exists because most of them are 14. My user name is invariably an incomprehensible mix of lower case letters and numbers, in my case it's...kv25561z. My user profile contains six posts and zero replies. *Terms and conditions apply.

    RCA says : April 30 at 11:47 pm

    "Hi. I'm on 23 points and chose to go with only 5 DGWers, one of these was sent off and another, my Captain as it happens, was substituted with a season ending hamstring injury after 9 minutes.
    I'm delighted for you kv25561z, I really am. Your thorough preparation and steadfast planning are both commendable and laudable. Apologies for the four and a half hour delay in responding to your post, I had more pressing matters to deal with, which in the main, consisted of imbibing copious amount of alcohol. My wife doesn't understand me, you see. For some reason she thinks that my three children are more important than "that silly game on the computer with different coloured shirts that you're always looking at".
    Best wishes for the last two GWs kv25561z.

    so take -8 to:

    A) valencia + sessegnon —-> dempsey + pienaar
    (next GW would be cisse + BAE —-> rooney + 5.3 defender(-4))

    B) sessegnon + BAE —-> pienaar + defender for 6.8
    (next GW would be cisse ----> rooney(no hit))

    C) only -4 hit for sess —> pienaar
    (next GW cisse ----> ronney(no hit))

          Just check through the fixtures and work out if you have a reasonable team for 37 and 38, Newcastle have very tough fixtures, so a treble up isn't great after this week.

          Reina has Chelsea in 37, you might want a good backup keeper for that week, then Swansea away which isn't the best.

          Look at it is way, you want to bench Reina (CHE), Simpson, Barfa (MCI) Maybe Cisse (I wouldn't) so who's on the bench?

    KRUL
    Vermaelen SIMPSON KELLY
    DEMPSEY Sigurdsson BALE McClean
    JELAVIC CISSE Van Persie

    Subs – Vorm, Kompany, Evans, Valencia

    Was thinking about Kompany > Terry or maybe McClean > VDV.

    Team for this week:

    Schwarzer (Vorm)
    Caulker, Skrtel, Simpson (Turner, Evans)
    Dempsey, Ben Arfa, Sigurdsson, VDV (C)? (Valencia)
    RVP, Tevez, Suarez

    I keep being burnt by not having Cisse, but I'll stick to my guns, I dot fancy his fixtures after this week, and HBA will have to be my coverage.

    I do want Jelavic, but really can't decide which striker to drop:
    I brought in Tevez last week and don't really want to sell him as he does have potential even this week, RVP is RVP and keeps getting chances, and Suarez at least has the chance of a DGW, and will play at least one, maybe come off the bench in the other.

    So that brings me to:

    A) RVP to Jelavic (-4)
    B) Valencia to Pienaar (-4) (Bench RVP)
    C) No transfer

      I suppose Ben Arfa is decent coverage but i'm sure glad i'm not without Cisse this GW. Although also glad i haven't got to work out if he's worth a hit etc etc! I'd do A but i think i'd sooner sell Tevez

        Yeah, Tevez was a punt as I had 2 frees and the bandwagon picked up steam before the wolves game, I just feel I might as well play him against united because he'd love scoring against them

        Cisse is going to have to stay where he is, on my watch list I think, as I don't want 3 Newcastle players for 37 and 38..

    Alright with all the price rises tonight it's crunch time for my wildcard. Tell me what ye think

    Cech (Bogdan)
    Simpson, Huth, Walker (Vermaelen, Evans)
    Bale, Dempsey, VDV, Gylfi (Valencia)
    Jelavic, RVP, Cisse

    If United lose on Monday then ditch Cisse & Spurs mid -> Rooney & Ox. I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

    Thoughts?

                I just can't trust Everton players with captaincy, too unpredictable.

                If the Adebayor rumours were true i'd probably give it to VDV. I'm concerned Bale might be used at lb for one match with BAE out.
                So now it's looking like Cisse... though I really like Dempsey and he'll probably be up against Coates & Carragher..

    Any love for KAlou out there? As a forward player classed as a midfielder with 2 games who has been favoured by RDM and may even start both games he could be a great differential for those chasing

      You sell it well and maybe it could work so wont suggest otherwise, just difficult to get enthusiastic about such an average player. But then fantasy football is different to the real game so why not!

      he could be a great differential but nobody has mentioned malouda, played against arsenal when mata was rested. I doubt he will play 180mins

        Dont get me wrong, i dont have him but I have considered it and if i was chasing a lead and was short of cash i'd go for him. He's 3 mil cheaper than malouda and plays a lot further forward. Wouldn't be surprised to see him get at least 10 points over the double

    B) sessegnon + BAE —-> pienaar + defender for 6.8

          Liverpool will play the reserves v Fulham, they have nothing to play for in the league and their season rests on the final Saturday. Schwarzer will probably get a load of save points in those matches anyway, for what its worth I'll be playing him over Mignolet myself.

            Good point. I think there' s always more merit in playing a keeper you don't think will keep a cleanie over a defender who you don't think will keep one. The reason? Save points and penalty saving potential

                  I think 2 attacking players is the way forward for Spurs. 2 from Bale, VDV, Defoe and Adebayor i suppose. I currently have just Bale but i'd be surprised if he didn't rack up a good score against us.

                  They're wrecked though, same squad every week. There's been arguments with the manager too. Healthier prospects for the DGW I think. Only one I'd consider would be Bale for the sake of his runs down the side. Blackburn and Bolton won't keep up if he starts at that.

                Yeah you're probably right. Plus he doesn't seem the kind of lad that would feel pressure or be phased by anything. He always seems to play with a smile on his face, like the buck-toothed Brazilian ye were linked with not so long ago. Could be a tough ask for goals in 3 of the games though - city and everton will be tough fixtures. Sorry for the essay 🙂
