With games against Blackburn at home and Bolton away, Tottenham have two of the best fixtures of the eight double Gameweek sides. A few weeks back, Fantasy managers would have been desperate to shoehorn three Spurs players into their squads but form has proved a cruel mistress in recent weeks. Surely, you’d think, this double Gameweek affords Harry Redknapp’s side a chance to turn around their dwindling fortunes?

The Prospects

Two wins in the last ten games tells a terrible story for the North London outfit. During this appalling run they have been beaten five times, including defeats at QPR and at home to Norwich, as well as conceding 14 goals. Similar to QPR, both Blackburn and Bolton are also fighting relegation, indicating Spurs may be in for a scrap, but a look at both sides’ defensive displays offers plenty optimism for Redknapp’s troops as they look to get their Champions League bid back on track.

Blackburn have kept just three clean sheets this campaign and shipped 73 goals – 41 of those have come on the road, the worst away record of any side in the league. Steve Kean’s side have recorded a single clean sheet away all season and have shipped two or more goals in four of the last five on their travels, strongly suggesting that goals could be on the agenda for the home side next Sunday at the Lane. In terms of goals scored, Rovers have failed to notch in three of their last five on the road, scoring just three times – two of those came at Molineux against relegated Wolves. Fantasy owners have every reason to be hopeful of a home clean sheet here.

Bolton have been similarly poor for defensive returns – Owen Coyle’s have also kept just three clean sheets this season, with a total of 66 goals conceded. The Trotters have returned a single clean sheet since Gameweek 11 and have shipped two or more goals in seven of the last ten Gameweeks. Having found the net in three of their last four at the Reebok, however, defensive returns for the visitors may not be quite so straightforward next Wednesday.

The Likely Lads

Reports earlier this week of a dressing room bust up between on-loan striker Emmanuel Adebayor and Spurs manager Harry Redknapp have yet to be confirmed by either camp, given the gossip little foundation at present. More concrete was today’s news that the Togo international is expected to overcome the hamstring problem that forced him out of last weekend’s trip to QPR. Should Adebayor – who is the fourth best striker in terms of total points in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) – take to the pitch, he has the potential for a huge haul. Already he has 13 goals, 12 assists, 24 bonus points and five double digit weekly points totals to his name. If, however, Adebayor fails to make it for this Gameweek, given that Louis Saha is also a doubt with a groin problem, Jermaine Defoe may find himself as the only forward available to Redknapp.

The stock of Spurs’ forward thinking midfielder Rafael Van Der Vaart would also rise considerably if Adebayor is out of the picture, as he is certain to be handed spot kick duties. Among the Spurs midfield, Van Der Vaart has also shown the most promise in recent weeks, giving the 9.5m priced Dutchman strong potential to add to his nine goals, five assists, 23 bonus points and six double digit points hauls.

With 36.9% ownership, there are plenty of managers hoping Gareth Bale can replicate his form of earlier in the season – only Wayne Rooney has more owners than the 9.2 priced Welshman. With 176 points, he has the second best points tally for a midfielder in the FPL game, having returned 10 goals, 11 assists and 21 bonus points. Despite some eye catching runs from midfield into opponents’ penalty boxes in recent matches, his form is nothing short of terrible, averaging just three points a game in the last 10 Gameweeks. Aaron Lennon also has the potential to produce in the midfield but, with game time far from guaranteed, it’d be more than just a punt to consider snapping him up.

Patched up is a fair description of the Spurs defence. Ledley King is unlikely to play twice during Gameweek 36 due to his ongoing knee problem, Michael Dawson is out for the season, though Younes Kaboul could be set to return from a knee problem, despite being ruled out by Redknapp earlier in the week. It leaves William Gallas as the only centre-half likely to feature twice – the former Arsenal man has started three of the last four and, at just 4.6, offers a cut-price route into the back-four. His prospects would certainly be boosted if Kaboul does, indeed, overcome his knee injury.

With Benoit Assou-Ekotto a major doubt due to a shoulder problem, we’re overlooking the left-back’s obvious potential. Instead, we’re looking at Kyle Walker. The 6.1 priced right-back has returned 121 points so far, providing with one goal, one assist and five bonus points to date. Brad Friedel also offers potential – the 5.7 priced veteran has returned 134 points and accrued 110 saves this term and has played every minute of his side’s campaign.

Cheeky Punts

So often the man who assists the assist, Luka Modric tends to miss out on the points hauls his team mates have enjoyed during the season. Nevertheless his three goals, six assists and 11 bonus points cannot be dismissed. Priced at 7.9, he has started all but two games and has achieved double digit gameweeks on two occasions.

Im going for Bale. Even fielding a weakened team Spurs destroyed Bolton in the cup recently, and Bale played a blinder.

If on a wildcard I would suggest:
al-habsi > cheap keeper (assuming Howard will play all games anyway)
Enrique, Simpson & Figeroa > Gallas, Hibbert & Gibbs
Petrov & Walters > Pienaar and Ferguson (*he will be 3rd sub till season's end)

I think these moves or similar moves would give you a better double gameweek coverage and better balance and fixtures till the end of the season

Would love your thoughts guys. Raking my brain on what to do. Crucial for Mini league (10 points off leader with WC).

Current team 0 FT 2.4 in bank.

    BEGO (Play Vorm?)

    ENRIQUE SANTON McAuley

    BALE DEMPSEY BARFA Valencia

    Rvp Aguero ADE

    Vorm Turner Evans Andrews

Willing to take a hit, was thinking Andrews to WALTERS/OSMAN & bench Val (-4)

Or Aguero & Andrews to Jelly & VDV (triple Spurs att)/MATA (rotation risk) (-8) 9 DGWers.

    Any idea's? Cheers in advance.

So is there any logic to suggest Mata is fresh enough for this week's game, and may get a start against NC due the outcome having a big say in the 4th battle? would really prefer Mata then tripling on Spurs?

Tough call, I haven't gone for him coz i can't be sure of his minutes but I don't have Ade so you should be covered for spurs if you opt for him. Probably best to go with Mata actually yeah - also, if you don't need huge haul from him this week, i wouls strongly consider nani for the final 2 games of the season - maybe you could get him in for Mata next week as mata plays away to pool and will def be rested for that one i'd say

Quite possibly yes, but will you want valencia for GW37? I'd have no qualms about playing McClean home to Bolton tbh, he's scored big in tougher games than that in the past. I'd just bench cahill now, just in case he comes on for a 1 pointer in the second game

I wouldn't bother selling Cahill. Just play Verm. All your transfers should now be in the attacking half of the field. Mids and Forwards will have the greatest impact in improving your score between now and the end of the season.

Good point. My 1 transfer this week was Kompany>HIBBERT to free up funds for the front 8 going into the last 2 GWs. One of the questions I'm asking myself is if I plan to take a 4 point hit next week and if so is 1 of the hits worth taking early for this GW (ie PIENAAR with wolves next week).

    Tevez > Cisse

Been tinkering with selling RVP for Jelly -4pts I'd end up with this team

    *KRUL*

Verm, Rangel, CAHILL inj. (Evans, Richards)
    *BALE*, *HBA*, *PIENAAR*, Siggy. (Valencia)
    *CISSE*, *JELAVIC*, *ADEBAYOR*

    Surman > Pienaar
    RVP > Jelavic -4pts

Is this a good plan or should I also consider selling the injured Cahill for a DGW defender for another hit? I don't fancy DGW defenders too much though especially potential rotation risks such as Terry or out of form teams such as Spurs defense. Even Everton conceded 4 goals in the last game.

If i were you, with loads of cash, i'd prob get terry in and not get pienaar. your defence look a bit weak. If not him, consider Huth, Walker or Jagielka. You'll be wanting rid of siggy and rangel after this week too i'd say, although you could prob get away with them being bench fodder. I really like Jelavic but i'd be seriously weary of getting rid of RVP for a hit

I am weary about it but having weighed it up I think its worth it. If RVP fails again then Everton have 2 games I'd be kicking myself. In terms of defense I will see if I can manage using my current defenders for GW37,38. Its a good point if I have to make a change their eventually I might as well do it in time for the DGW. Might wait and see how serious the Cahill injury is. I know I will need him for 37 and 38.

Hmm food for thought. Walker or a punt on Huth could be a nice differential for me. I don't trust Terry to play every PL game from here on in though with all the competitions Chelsea are still in.

I guess choosing VdV is not such a bad option when matching your ML rival. he is an overall league differential in the entire game and can score jsut as much as pineaar.

    Need some advice!

I am 24pts ahead in Mini League.

    Our squad;

    Me

    FRIEDEL
    ENRIQUE, SIMPSON, Naylor
    DEMPS,Walcott,Valencia, Siggy,
    rvp,CISSE,Rooney

    Mcauley, Moses, Jevans. minglotet

    Him

    SCHWARTZER
    CAHILL, verm, CAHILL, SIMPSON, Mcauley
    walcott, HBA, Valencia, Sess, Siggy
    Tevez, CISSE, rooney

    we both have 1 FT

Not sure what do to do.

I am planning to take a 4 or 8 pt hit the question is do i match his HBA or go for Pineaar and allow for a differential?

He has two Cahills. Neither will play in the DGW 😉

Looks fine to me. I'd probably only take a 4 point hit and get rid of Walcott and Valencia/Rooney for Bale & Barfa/Jelavic

I'd match his HBA with the sale of Walcott. Not sure he has two Cahills by the way. I think you only need to do the 1 change, perhaps selling Valencia to Bale/VDV could be worth a hit but your defense and front 3 are fine.

      I really want to take the punt on Mata.....however this last 2 league matches are;

      GW 34 vs ful - 21mins
      GW 35 vs ars - 17mins

It is the ars match that sticks out at me. Chelsea needed to win that match in order to catch Gunners and he was still rested for CL semi.

will RDM do the same in preparation for the FA final?

Since he only played 58 mins vs Barca i reckon he will problably start the QPR match and get subbed around 60 mins. Then rested in the NEW fixture and subbed on if needed.

    Bale* Dempsey* Petrov* Pienaar*

    Cisse* Jelavic* RvP

    Ruddy, McAuley, Valencia, Evans.

Thinking of just playing McAuley and benching Cahill to avoid possible cameo appearance. Alternative is to take a hit to bring in another dgw player for Cahill. Not sure it's worth the 4 pts unless for Everton defender I would play in wk 37.

I thought so too. Lamps might explode but i dont see him playing 180 with two finals in short succession. Also he has been rotated before both semi`s, so we kinda know that already. Pienaar surely is the better or atleast safer bet? Do Sess->VDV for a hit as well? Im on yes, so gonna take some convincing to do otherwise. Dont really see anyone else to consider?

On topic, i had the same kind of thought, then i saw that Sunderland havent scored in the last 4, and Sessegnon averages about 1 shot total each game the last month or so. Sunderlands totally off form, so is Sess, whilst Everton/Pienaar totally opposite.

Tbh i dont care for transfers that you have to correct for one week, specially since either have double fixtures. Aguero out for me since they have Newcastle away after that whilst UTD host Swansea. Jelavich might have fixtures, but Newcastle are chasing CL-spot and Cissè is just too hot to handle. I had posted yesterday about my doubts on Enrique's game time but was told by others that he was likely to play both!! So I don't know who to believe there? I had thought it might be wise to trade him for Eve/Tot defender now rather than later as my defence for next week is awful.

Well i obviosly dont know 100%, but beeing a Liverpool-fan and seeing how Kenny has done it before im fairly certain the Enrique wont start the last game vs Fulham. Kenny rotated 7-8 players before the semi`s, and there was even an extra day inbetween that time compared to this time. And, the week after Liverpool host Chelsea 3 days after the final, i dont really see lots of CS in the near future for us. I would want Jelavic too, but i wouldnt get rid of any of your strikers, pending Ade`s fitness. You could do Valencia->Pienaar, he`s dipping a little in form, bad fixture this week and with Nani back he could get rotated. Not very likely, but still its possible.

I will keep Moses.. not worth a trade. Next week Siggy to Pienaar.

RVP??? Damn. If only he could get his mojo back!

Thanks for all that Sizo, you're a champion.
Think I will play Turner in Enrique's stead.

Mmm.. will mull over Valencia > Pienaar as my only Eve coverage.

Np bro! Besides, you have to consider this: Will Pienaar get 4 more points than Valencia the next 3 games. I have Valencia, im not selling this week but will be benching. Only keeping him since i sold Rooney and want some United coverage and this cost me the least in point hits. If i were to give direct advice id go Valencia->Pienaar and bench Siggy next GW, possibly do Cisse-> Rooney if you want United next gw, if you can afford ofcourse.

Rvp vs a leaky Norwich. Even off form he`s had several in the woodwork and even if the midfield is thinning out, i still fancy him a ton for the final 2.

              Thanks Sizo,
              All welcome and knowledgable advice.
              It comes down to ...
Val > Peinaar and leave RVP (no Jelly).
              Or
RVP > Jelly and play Val.

              Mmmm..

Walker, Friedel. Friedel could end up with two clean sheets far more easily than that Chelsea dude who still wears a diaper on his head.

If you need both, then i`d go Cech/Walker. Cech only Chelsea player guaranteed for both, and Chelsea have been parking it/keeping it tight. Tbh i really dont see any cleanies for Spurs the way theyre playing + they have injuries at the back and really need to win games which means possibly taking greater risks. Besides, doubling up is usually not a great idea.

Ah yeah. Can you imagine the motivation that little twat has coming into this game? I mean, wow! Also i hope City wins the league for so many reasons, but Tevez winning it for `em would surely make this a season never to forget.

Not totally sure its all Tevez`s fault, think his agent has burned him some. But yeah i pretty much agree with what you said. Although, thats why it would be so nice if he did decide it for City yeah? Its one for the books no doubt:)

You're probably right the agent's are always pulling the strings, especially so in Tevez's case. It is very possible that he'll score although it would surely ruin my week. That would be true if you won no matter who scored though Tevez would just rub salt in the wound. Hope it is a good game and that there is no BS to decide the outcome.

I honestly fancy Tevez in that game and i hope for the neutrals and anti-united (like myself :p) that City wins it. But, again i fear that Fergie has the blueprint. We shall see, its defo the highlight of the PL season this game! Figure either a tight or super wide game, although the latter far less likely unless City bang in a couple before HT.

Sure he does, but still. Newcastle on the break are probably best in the league atm, and thats where he gets most his goals anyway. And, Wigan and Chelsea need the points equals plenty of chances for good counter-attacks. Certainly hes the main man in the PL as well these days, im seriously considering leaving him with the armband as he can score on anyone.
