International Football

Which FPL players are on international duty ahead of Gameweek 1?

Fantasy managers are faced with the unusual situation of an international break taking place immediately before the start of the 2020/21 Premier League season.

A week of international fixtures got underway in midweek, with many key top-flight players in action for their nations and missing out on pre-season preparations with their clubs as a consequence.

The positive news is that only those representing European countries will be away from their clubs, as UEFA tries to play catch-up with the Nations League.

The likes of Mohamed Salah (£12.0m), Sadio Mane (£12.0m), Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m), Son Heung-min (£9.0m) and Raul Jimenez (£8.5m) will be staying put, then, while those European players who are on international duty at least won’t have to endure an arduous trek back from further afield given that all Nations League matches will take place on the continent.

This article gives a club-by-club rundown on which assets will be away from their sides during this period, also detailing the dates in which these players will be competing for their respective countries.

Firstly this template will change quickly when United and City assets get in this mix. For now, I've gone Mane instead of salah, Robo instead of VVD. As for Mitro, I just don't see anyone in that price range who is better.

Ticks a lot of boxes could do well in GW1 and setup for GW2. As per my previous comment I would rather 1 more big hitting mid over a strong front 3.

Where does West Brom's signing of Button leave owners - better or worse off? Genuine competition for Johnstone?

Good initial fixtures for West Brom, but I saw a lot of the Championship last year and they have a tendency to concede a lot of cheap goals. They did score a lot but this is level up and they're coming up against stronger defences.

Ryan is still #1 at Brighton, so if Button manages to win the starting job at West Brom you've got two starting keepers for 8.5. I'm sure another keeper will be added to the Brighton roster to replace Button, and if he's 4.0 it's just a matter of swapping out Button for the unnamed asset before the season begins. You'd still more or less be hitching your wagon to Mat Ryan.

The question bouncing around in my head is whether I would go to a Button/4.0 combo if Button is named starting keeper at West Brom.

TAA Robbo and Doc an overkill defence?
Have 1.5 in the bank and the idea of using that to get Mitro, Adams or Rodrigo seems pointless tbh

Trying to stay away from 451 tbh, but i really can see your point in it.
Im leaning towards a 352, but with my defence and attack does mean ill have 3 very good mids and 1 average with 1x5mill/4.5mill - and thats the killer part of it for me

              Nothing is ever for sure.

But if brewster was going this week there would be more noise than there is.

Last season klopp promised brewster game time and he did not go on loan.

By mid season klopp had changed his mind and let him go to Swansea but that was never the plan. Brewster performance at Swansea and liverpool's inability to bring in Werner has left brewster in a stronger posotion than this time last season when he did not go on loan.

I cant see klopp letting him leave until the last minute and my gut tells me he wants to bring him on late on and see what he can do in the first team.

Playing in qualifying rounds and a trip to Bulgaria between everton and Southampton for one..imagine Levy will be making it priority so i expect a strongish squad. Not sure in comparison to rest but we have an hard schedule.

Great midfield. I will go one up top too but certainly wouldnt have the balls to let that be Mitro. It could be genius with the flexibility you have at the midfield price points but still I don’t know - a step too far for me.

cheers, yeah it's a gamble in some ways, I just don't see Werner being worth more than Son, Alli and Greenwood over that spell - GW4 Mitro will either become Wood or Wood will be joining Mitro up-top

How confident are people on Werner going on a tear early?

I'm tempted to go Ings, then switch to Martial GW2. Gives me double ups with Adams and Greenwood against palace then I can look at the Chelsea team with more data to move with.

      I'm confident.

Shown ability in a strong league, still improving, playing in an improved Chelsea team, has been with Chelsea since July so no problems with acclimatising

Improved Chelsea team? More names there for sure but up to 6 to fit in.

If Kante can single handedly turn the defence around perhaps.

Hey guys, thoughts on whether this team is suffering as a result of planning to bring in fantasy assets? GW2: Ziyech > Fernandez
    GW3: Keita > Foden

    McCarthy

    TAA, Dier, Vinagre

    Salah, Aubameyang, Ziyech, Keita, Soucek

    Werner, Adams

    Subs: Button, C.Taylor, Mitchell, Davis

    3.5m ITB

      Solid, yes.

However I would say that no Spurs can hurt you, namely if they start delivering.

Maybe Ziyech to Son at lest for the first GW?

(I like the Ziyech punt however)

That place isn't nailed for me yet - I had Son and Alli but I'm still not convinced by their attacking players under Mourinho. Feel like Ziyech has to be in the mix with Werner and Pulisic making runs in behind.

    McCarthy
    Mitchell, TAA, Doherty, Vinagre
    Auba, Salah, Alli, Son
    Werner, Mitro

    Nyland, Ferguson, Lemina, Davis

After GW1 —> Alli to Greenwood
After GW2 —> Auba to KDB
After GW3 —> Son to the most-performing (10M max) mid or an improvement in defence.

    Cheers!

He shirley has to be a major factor this year at 10.5

If he hadn’t gotten injured in the DGW & had been able to partake in City’s end of season touting of everything that came in front of them there’s a reasonable chance he’d have been minimum 11.5 this year, if not even more

Every bit as explosive as the 12.0’s on the upside, probably even moreso, and the price tag might help offset some of his (primarily fitness-related) downside

Totally agree. That run of Arsenal (H), Leicester (H), West Ham (A), Leeds (A) from GW3-7 has a brace every game if he starts. Bringing in him and KDB then probably. 10.5 is a gift

Considering playing a 4.5 midfielder in week 1 and having a couple of players on the bench ready to go for week 2. Thoughts?

    McCarthy
    TAA Dier Egan Vinagre
    Aubameyang Salah ASM Reed
    Werner Ings

    Subs: Nyland, Brewster, Shaw, Greenwood

    0.5 ITB

    Wk2 - Ings to Martial

    4 years, 16 days ago

    McCarthy
    TAA Doherty Tierney Bellerin
    Auba Ziyech Alli
    Vardy Werner Adams
    (Button Taylor Bissouma Stephens)

    Vardy->Martial
    Auba->Sterling/KDB
    Bellerin->Laporte

Three trades planned over the first 2 Gameweeks, hopefully leaving 1m in the bank in case of a Werner->Aguero move.

Taylor my bench cover who can rotate with Adams or another player with poor fixtures.

Thoughts on the team sheet and early plans?

Typically at the beginning of the season I like to go with 2 questionable or even non-playing bench players (4.0 defender/4.5 mid/4.5 striker). These usually stay on the bench with money invested in first 11 and one decent sub.

However, with COVID and the threat of players isolating and not playing at short notice (like Soucek at the moment) is it more important than ever this season to have at least 2 or maybe even 3 decent bench option? This goes for keepers too - is a set-and-forget option more of a risk...?
