Captain Sensible

Who are the best captain options for FPL Gameweek 2?

Jan Sienkiewicz was the king of the Fantasy Premier League captaincy in 2019/20, scoring a whopping 657 points from the armband, the second-highest in the whole world. We asked him to help out with the captaincy debate ahead of the Gameweek 2 deadline.

The Fantasy Premier League community has been relatively unanimous in picking their captain for Gameweek 2 – but have they chosen wisely?

That’s what the Captain Sensible article is here to find out, with an in-depth analysis of the key form options, as well as the defences of their upcoming opponents.

Captain Poll

For the second week running, Arsenal’s premium midfielder Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£12.0m) leads the Fantasy Football Scout captain poll. The former Borussia Dortmund man has once again received more than a half of total votes and looks to be trusted by the vast majority of his owners for his Gameweek 2 match against West Ham (home).

Only Jamie Vardy (£10.0m) has scored more goals than Aubameyang since the start of the 2019/2020 season and the Gunners’ captain will be looking to celebrate signing a new contract at the club by improving his impressive tally against the leaky Hammers’ defence.

Despite not featuring in Gameweek 1, Bruno Fernandes (£10.5m) is attracting some attention for the armband. The “Portuguese Magnifico” sits second in our captain poll with 11.7% of votes. Manchester United’s talisman has been in scintillating form since moving to the Premier League in January, providing eight goals and eight assists in that time. In fact, since Fernandes’ arrival, Ole Gunnar Solskjær’s men have gained more points (32) than any other team in the division, which highlights the midfielder’s positive impact.

The remaining players have all gained less than 5% of votes, with the likes of in-form Mohammed Salah (£12.5m) and new Everton star James Rodriguez (£7.5m) all failing to attract many Fantasy managers for the armband. In this article, we will look at how good of a captaincy option Aubamyang actually is, as well as try to spot some overlooked assets.

KEY MATCHES

Arsenal v West Ham

using-the-top-10000-ownership-to-increase-your-fpl-rank-andys-article 9

Gameweek 2 pits two clubs together who could not be further apart in terms of outlook right now. In a week where Arsenal won 3-0 at Fulham and tied club captain Aubameyang to a new contract, they host a West Ham that got off to the worst possible start to 2020/21.

The Hammers were substandard to say the least in their 2-0 home defeat to Newcastle, a particularly ominous development before travelling to the Emirates Stadium. If David Moyes’ men were dominated by the Magpies, how much more damage could Arsenal do?

Best option here folks?? On WC and will be rotating two 5.5 mids, one will be Podence so this is the scenario I’ve got to make my mind up on....
    A- Greenwood and Doucouré
    Or
    B- Colombian J-Rod and Klich/Harrison

Many thanks and good luck to you all this weekend!!!!

        Currently looking like this
        Mate...
        Martínez
        TAA Digne Lewis
        Aubameyang(Salah GW3) Bruno J-Rod(Eve) Klich
        Martial DCL Wilson
        Subs- Steer Podence Saïss Ferguson
1.0 in the bank too for flexibility

An admirably strong bench! but too strong IMO. Easier said than done but I would really try to get both Auba and Salah in (Auba -> KDB GW3) so would need a few downgrades including J-Rod and DCL probably.

Hi mate, yeah good points well made there!! Thankyou will have a bit of tinker, essentially I’ve done Salah to Bruno and will do Aubameyang back to Salah straight away, annoying that Bamford is 5.6 as would be a good enabler while we see what happens with Brewster

It could well pay off. I'm currently on this:

              Martinez
              TAA, Digne, James, Justin
              Salah, Auba, Fernandes, Podence
              Martial, Wilson

              (Steer, Bissouma, Mitchell, Brewster)

With Auba -> KDB GW3 and then GW4 using the 0.5 to upgrade the pretty hideous bench...

              Good luck!

Could be a good option if you're confident in Greenwood's minutes. If not, I do like Podence and Harrison individually so you could stick with the original plan and ditch whichever one isn't performing if you need the money down the line. Could also downgrade one and go Wilson to Jimenez maybe? Team looks good either way 🙂

I think having Greenwood and Martial with Bruno with 1.0 In the bank make a decision to potentially move Bruno to KDB or Sterling a bit easier, I do like Jimenez and would certainly like to get him in next gameweek for Wilson if I can, certainly plenty of options this year mate!! Going to be a long nights tinkering for me do sure!! Cheers buddy thanks for you help and best of luck!!

The points gap between TAA and VVD over the past couple of seasons hasn't been particularly big now I look at it. And the gap between VVD and Robertson has been minimal

    1. Catastrophe

Oof. Maybe VVD will be a bigger goal threat this year - well based on one game anyway! That 1.0M could go a long way....but just can't go without TAA.

Biss will get you 2 points, very unlikely to be anything else.

KWP may conceed a couple, and get 1pt, but against his old club he might ruin your B.Davies clean sheet, and I'd take that gamble 🙂

Bissouma is a 2 pointer, you want to be collecting ALL of the KWP attacking returns at home, if you have him, at home, play him.... Spurs aren't looking amazing yet either.

    Rashford v Sterling

    Rashford 17 goals 8 assists 9 cs 2645 minutes = 203 points as midfielder

    Sterling 20 goals 6 assists 13 cs 2651 minutes = 204 points

Did Rashford miss minutes due to injury? Sterling missing minutes just due to rotation? Rashford is more nailed than Sterling just because of Pep roulette?

    1. Flair
      • 3 Years
      3 years, 6 months ago

Sterling was very off form, the 20 goals is misleading. He was benched frequently midseason due to how poor his performances became. Basically only turned up towards the start and end of the season. He is not nailed but plays most of the matches, Pep roulette is exaggerated for him.

Rashford got injured after being overplayed in a match against Wolves, he is nailed.

A fair bit of criticism of Calvert-Lewin on the previous page as a donkey who cant finish etc.

Worth pointing out that he has 14 league goals in his last 28 appearances and plays Wb, Palace, Brighton, Southampton, Newcastle, Fulham and Leeds before December.

Ofc, but I am talking in terms of his scoring stats and fixtures. I don't think he is the second coming and Rich and J-Rod are better players but he is a super pick until December. He wont score every week but I dont think an expectation of 5-6 league goals by December is unreasonable.

With the players that are available to Frank do you think he will shift Havertz more centrally? If so he could be worth the hold.

If he keeps him pushed out wide then I would be inclined to ship him short term to see if he picks up his game.

      Think he will go 3-4-3

      GK
      Azpi Christensen Zouma
      James Kovacic Kante Alonso
      Havertz Werner Mount

Or possibly Giroud in for Havertz and Werner playing wider

So either way it wouldn’t be in his most beneficial position to aid his FPL appeal right?

I think for me the -4 will be worth it even if I end up getting him back later.

James Rod is the only good option right?

Thoughts on how much is Bale going to be in FPL? They are bound to put him in at 10m min surely, just cause its him

Makes sense to own a player at 5.5 that you wont start at home to Brighton....

you have been playing this game 6 years . Have you not ever started with a player that you decided was a bit of a mistake to buy ? So then you bring in another player who you think has better fixtures this week. Justin over ASM for me.

You sound like you are new to the game with this garbage

If you go around calling questions stupid, expect some comeback.

The point is that you spent pre-season thinking about ASM and then have decided in one week that he isnt worth it and so you wont start him. It's possible that this instinct is wrong too - 1 week is nothing.

Personally I think he is historically quite impotent as a player, but I'd start him at home to Brighton.

My mistake was bringing him in in thr first place but i needed a 5.5 and Armstrong was injured so i reluctantly made the move.

Yeah Armstrong would have been more interesting, as I could see him improving.

Taylor easily. You don't want to play any defender against a City side that can spank anyone 4-0
