Just three days removed from their forgettable FA Cup Final meeting, Liverpool and Chelsea meet once more. This time around the setting is Anfield and, if truth be told, the stake is pride more than the three Premier League points on offer. The Dugout Discussion opens for the occasion, and the team news is in…

Liverpool XI: Reina, Johnson, Carragher, Skrtel, Agger, Downing, Henderson, Shelvey, Maxi, Suarez, Carroll.

Chelsea XI: Turnbull, Ferreira, Ivanovic, Terry, Bertrand, Essien, Romeu, Ramires, Sturridge, Malouda, Torres.

Hoping to avoid the worst tally in over 60 years for home points in a season, Kenny Dalglish plays Andy Carroll (at the expense of Craig Bellamy) alongside Luis Suarez following the impact he made on Saturday. There’s three other changes that see Jamie Carragher, Maxi Rodriguez and Jonjo Shelvey replace Jose Enrique, Steven Gerrard and Jay Spearing.

With a season-defining game awaiting in Munich later this month, a much-changed Chelsea line-up take to the field. There’s only three survivors from the weekend, with Champions League Final suspendees John Terry, Ramires and Branislav Ivanovic all keeping their place.

The Dugout Discussion chatroom is open and can be accessed right here.

    Off topic:
Backed Gunners top four finish quite a while back and now I wish to hedge for a guaranteed return.

Sky Bet go 16-1 (Arsenal not to finish in the top four)
Can I improve on that by placing a cumulative bet on Sundays games?

Minus points for Terry last night means that Mrs China Mag is still (just about) in with a shot of our mini league title. She is 26 points behind the leader (I am 37 points behind). She has a much stronger team going into this week than me as well. She was planning on getting in captain torres for chico. But after last nights result i'm not so sure. Didn't see the game. Are chelseas minds already in munich? Or will torres start, and be desperate to perform so he gets picked for the final?

Any hope for my team? My rival would either have to take a hit, or sell RVP for aguero. If he doesn't, I will buy and captain him. If it looks like that is his move, what options do I have? Captain Tevez?

Although thinking about it, i'm probably better off going for the title with Mrs China Mag, and just trying to ensure that I finish inside the top 10,000. That means aguero, regardless of what my rival does. Right?

Yeah and tbh I think 37 points behind is too far gone, so is 26 points. Be realistic about how you can maximize your points return for this weekend. Don't take any ridiculous gambles. Aguero in is fine

26 pts is just a captain success v a captain fail. Definitely possible (though highly unlikely). Mrs China Mag has a better team than our rival too.

Mrs China Mag: Krul, Big Verm, Boyce, Caulker, Bale, Silva, Siggurdson, Aguero, Ade, Torres (possibly)

Rival: Howard, Terry, Walker, Huth, Valencia, Dempsey, Pienar, RVP, Dave, Jellyfish,

Yeah. No point getting in the same players at him at this stage. Its either torres or tevez I reckon. How come so strong anti torres? I'm thinking that he might be motivated to try and win a place in the team for the final

I agree....that Aguero is a better choice than Rooney this week. But would it be worth a hit?
If you have RVP aleady as (c) does it make sense to bring in Aguero for Roonpig for just 1 week ? Am i making sense?

Too much guess work to say whether its worth a hit or not. I'd play it save and keep Rooney, there is no reason why he shouldn't score in his final game of the season.

He has no Citeh; however, you have no Aguero and too much money in defence (naughty boy) to buy him in. Luckily 2 freebies.

      1. Cisse->Aguero
      2. Verm-> cheap 4 mill defender like Caulker.

Is there any way in which you can afford Aguero. He isn't the be all and end all but when there is only 1 point in it you still have to play it safe. Consider selling Valencia too, he seems to have gone off the boil.

ok guys chasing a 12 point gap in ML... Thinking about a hit to get Holt in for Pogs. Can I get some opinions? Also, who is more likely to start Nani or Val got both need to ship 1. Would leave front 7 of:

    Bale - Silva - Dempsey - Valencia/Nani

    Aguero (c) - RVP - Holt

Don't take a hit for Holt. If he scores anything less than 6 pts it will be a loss.

Between Nani and Valenica, Valencia is guaranteed to play. But if you are looking for explosive returns you will just have to hope Nani plays and ship Valencia out.

as far as I can see you have to gamble on a differential, and best way to make up a lot of opints is my having a differential captain scoring big, while his big hitters stay quiet

I'd say your plan fits this bill

    A) Silva + Rooney + Adebayor

Well I took 5 hits which is 4 more than last year. 5 hits for me is equivalent to say, 150 for someone like Doosers.

37 doesn't sound like a lot and it still falls below the total no of gwks. I tended to use them before dgws which generally, worked out well.

I think if you look at the leaders, most have kept hits to a very bare mimimum. It probably wasn't a season for taking lots of hits. Players holding form home and away were a factor.

Contrast this with last year when most of the top 10 took 40 or more transfers. I think injuries were down also. For my team at least.

37 weeks so far with 4 weeks where one takes no transfers (2 w/cs plus first two weeks) means 33 transfers would be no hits.

If you made 37 transfers with 5 hits, that must mean you didn't use (and thus lost) a transfer at some point? Does that sound right?

Impressive anyway - I must learn to take fewer hits...

I did 37 transfers this season as well!

      I'm in good company 😀

My policy on hits is "only when I have injuries" as the points lost are evened out as long as the player I brought in gets 2, so I try to take good hits to get 3+

    c) Spurs, Nufc, Arsenal
    d) Nufc, Arsenal, Spurs

ok guys chasing a 12 point gap in ML… Thinking about a hit to get Holt in for Pogs. Can I get some opinions? Also, who is more likely to start Nani or Val got both need to ship 1. Would leave front 7 of:

    Bale – Silva – Dempsey – Valencia/Nani

    Aguero (c) – RVP – Holt

There is a generic team that goes around. Some players just end up being fixed because everyone has them or they have have an excellent pre-season. Like Moses, who ends up ruining everyone's team.

So to answer the question, no, I really don't think it was worthwhile.

To be honest, I think the start of this season was a freak. I still believe it was fundamentally sound to go without man utd players for their horror run at the start of the season. I would do the same again next season. Where I recognize my mistake is in not being wise to man utds red hot form, and getting in rooney against a depleted and demoralised arsenal.

Surely the start of the season is always unpredictable. There is no form to go by and if anything pre-season is a terrible judge of form. I had a gut feeling Rooney will do well and I came out on top. I'd hate to miss out on this sort of gut feeling next time around.

There is pretty much zero form at the start of the season. So you can only really go on fixtures (and your gut). Hence why many of here went man utd free at the start of the season.

There is nothing to stop you going with the generic team, plus a few gut picks. But remember for every rooney at the start of the season, there is a torres looking like he was back on form, at home against norwich!! 😉

I'm not saying you have to follow what the masses say, just that in my opinion, 9 times out of 10, the generic FFS team (at the start of the season at least) should be better than any team an individual can come up with!!

But remember, when we talk about a generic team, there is never a team of 15 generic players. It is more of a core of between 5-10 players. So there is plenty of room for your own choices.

The thing is not all of FFS can get off to a good start, has this ever happened? if everyone has the same sort of team then together an average starting position can only be achieved. I suppose you can still judge by %owned so it may not be so generic perhaps.

The generic FFS team, is probably the best team that you can start with (give or take a couple of players). Think of it as the combined brain power of some of the best fantasy players in the world!!

I'm still tempted to base Mrs China Mag's team for next season as close as possible to the generic FFS team all season, and see how well it goes.

The site is good for finding out about hidden gems. Also good to find out who is performing well pre-season, but remember that doesn't necessarily mean that form will continue into the season (moses, sess, boselli).

Defensive rotations is the one thing that is worth looking at. You can sort of do that from the season ticker though in terms of home/away rotation

In my opinion, home/away is only one factor affecting the best rotations. But yes, you can work them out yourself using the ticker. But its a LOT of work. Much easier to come on here and get the info (from the likes of me ;))

Moses, Dempsey, Valencia, Gylfi or Jelavic?

How come so certain on jelavic? I'm still deciding on whether to get rid of dave or jelavic. Leaning towards keeping dave at the moment

      Gylfi for me.
Maybe because i'll be playing Demps & Val.
Def think there could be something in it for Demps though.

Regarding the thread about the generic FFS team above, thinking about it, the only time there has been a really generic FFS team was around the time of the winter wild card when there were LOADS of big hitters players not performing, so not to many players to pick from.

At the start of the season, with no form to go on, it is unlikely there will be a really generic team when you have to decide between RVP, Rooney, Aguero, Tevez, Torres, Adebayor, Cisse, Jellyfish, etc.

there will be one.. everyone will have lambert along with two set piece takin mids from the promoted sides.. also chasing fixtures everyone will have the same big hitters, and followin defensive rotations on here, the same defenders.. most everyone atleast
