With another Gameweek down, we rule over the fixture list once again, seeking out those sides who appear to have a smooth passage through the festive period and those who may well suffer a rough route into 2011…

The Highs

Man City
Roberto Mancini’s side unleashed the shackles somewhat against Bolton at the weekend, peppering their opponents’ goal with efforts. This new emphasis on attack, coupled with a defence that has kept the most clean sheets in the league, is taken into a run of games that has them face kind opponents both at home and away over the coming weeks. Discount the potentially tricky Eastlands clash with Everton in Gameweek 18 and the next real test doesn’t arrive until Gameweek 22 with a trip to the Emirates. Once back from bans, both Carlos Tevez and Aleksandar Kolarov look irresistible targets for this spell, while David Silva must creep into the reckoning in midfield.

Liverpool
Even before last night’s Anfield clash with Villa, Roy Hodgson’s side look to have a set of fixtures that allow them to progress up the table over the Christmas period. With Steven Gerrard set to return, possibly by Gameweek 19 if not before, Liverpool should gain extra impetus and could fetch reasonable returns at both ends. A punt on Sotirios Kyrgiakos as a goal-getting Bonus magnet at the back for just 5.1 looks a particularly good option with Newcastle, Fulham and Wolves in the next four.

Everton
The hugely encouraging display at Stamford Bridge will provide plenty of confidence for an Everton side that has struggled for consistency. They will take that boost into a home clash with Wigan this weekend and follow that with a run that, a trip to Eastlands aside, appears to give them potential to climb up the table. Clean sheets continue to look a big ask for Moyes’ men but owners of Tim Cahill will likely be holding firm right up to his expected departure for the Asian Cup over Christmas.

Also Consider…
Tottenham – The home clash with Chelsea won’t intimidate an in-form Spurs and following that, trips to Blackpool and Villa offer plenty of goal potential. They are followed by home clashes with Newcastle and Fulham.

West Brom
– a strong performance against Newcastle will provide a timely boost ahead of derby matches at Birmingham and at home to Wolves. Such matches are hard to call but meetings with Blackburn and Fulham follow to extend a decent run for Di Matteo’s side.

Fulham – Mark Hughes’ outfit have little form to cling to but can at least take comfort in a fixture list that hands them three Craven Cottage clashes that could help them dig their way out of the mire.

The Lows…

Arsenal
While Samir Nasri’s form has sparkled brightly enough to mask the flaws in Arsene Wenger’s defence, the fixture list hands them a series of tough tests that may yet reveal them further. The trip to Old Trafford this coming Gameweek starts proceedings, while clashes with Stoke, Chelsea and City in the next six appear to afford little by way of home comforts – they will all severe tests for very different reasons. Trips to Wigan and Birmingham meanwhile, provide unpredictable opponents who could stretch Wenger’s men. The message appears to be keep Nasri, think twice about further investment.

Man United
Aside from City, these are testing times for the top four. United’s clash with Arsenal this weekend is hard to call but, if Alex Ferguson’s men falter, they will face severe tests against Chelsea at the Bridge, followed by uncomfortable tussles with Sunderland (who have already seen off Chelsea) and Birmingham at St Andrews. Attacking returns should keep flowing but clean sheets look endangered over that run of four.

Newcastle
The new manager won’t get any favours from the fixture list. This weekend’s home meeting with Liverpool will provide a stern enough test but that’s followed by a decidedly tricky trip to Birmingham with consecutive clashes with top four candidates in City and Spurs to come next. Wigan and West Ham wait for them on the other side but by then the Magpies could be in deeper trouble.

Be wary of…
Stoke – home encounters with Blackpool, Fulham and Everton look crucial over the coming weeks but their run of away games that appear to offer little by way of potential returns.

West Ham – Two more trips to Blackburn and Fulham seem likely to extend the Hammers run of miserable away days and they are sandwiched between tough home matches with City and Everton.

Birmingham – fail in the local derby with Wolves this coming Gameweek and they will face a pressure home game with Newcastle before embarking on a nightmare run consisting of a trip to Goodison and home matches with United and Arsenal.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

any views on A Cole? always reluctant to drop a player who has done the business consistently..but cant help feeling that Chelsea are a long way from getting out of this slump..and certainly no cleansheets on the horizon..

I'd be a bit more bullish on Stoke than suggested here. Our of their next five games, BLP and FUL are very tasty indeed, EVE/bla kind of OK-ish, and ars not isurmountably bad.

Someone like, say, Huth in for manager's who've yet to shift Elmo mightn't be a bad idea at all. Etherington seems to score a lot better with Pennant out of the team. Jones up front not a ridiculous idea.

I'm finally ditching Alex this week.
    Any replacement advice?

    Requirements:
    - Long term or atleast good to keep for a couple of gws
    - Fixtures are (so I’m looking to avoid investing more into the hard Man utd (Che&Ars) or Chelsea (Manu&Tot) fixtures)
    - Money isn’t an issue

    So far on my watchlist:
    - Kyrgiakos (but he's prolly temporary)
    - Konchesky (not much of a threat/better options out there?)
    - Nedum Onuoha (Sund are getting lots of clean sheets. Worth a shot?)
    - Baines (Don't like Everton's cs potential, but he's such a great offensive threat for a defender)

It'd help if your team was linked/we knew what your defence was.

LIV/MCY/BLA defences should all be considered IMO. I have made sure I have 1 from each for the coming weeks. (All 3 btw, paid off this week. Unfortunately, Kolarov's sending off spoilt 3 points of it!)

Sunderland also seem to be keeping a good amount. Onuoha is a good call. Everton, not bad.

Can't link my team, not playing on the official site.
        My current line-up however:

        Hart
        Cashley, Sagna, Dann, Alex
        Ethers, Cahill, Nasri, Nani
        Berbs, Rooney

        Bench; Tevez, Nolan, Elmo, Carson

        Transfers this week
        Alex --> ??
Either Rooney or Berbatov --> Elmander or Torres

Anyone getting Kyrgiakos? If not, why not? Because he is only temporary, surely he is worth it? If he suddenly looks like he isn't going to get starts then ditch him in the January wildcard, thats what I am planning on doing, just a straight swap with him and Konchesky when I play my wildcard. Got to get him first though.

Yeah i dont really like the idea of not having Drogba against Spurs or Torres against Newcastle. So the Tevez move makes sense to me. Other striker is Carroll and im not sure how he'll perform so im either gonna bench him, or take a hit for Odemwingie.

Newcastle could be in disarray after the sacking of Hughton... And they'll still be without Williamson and Collocini, so Torres could run riot against Big Sol.

And Liverpool actually looked quite decent last night.

My sub keeper has scored more than my actual keeper in each of the last 5 weeks. Doh!!

    1st choice keeper total = 54

    sub keeper total = 62

And that includes a couple of weeks where Jussi was suspended and obviously got 0 points on the bench! Playing Foster every week would have got me 74 points.

    DISASTER!!

Considering that Foster has virtually matched both of them, I think not. Plus having Hart or Cech would make me reluctant to get someone like Kolarov or Alex in, which isn't ideal. SuperDunny was making that point a couple of days ago, and it's a good one...

That's why I have Jussi, because no one in their right mind would ever want a Bolton defender!!

          *whistles guiltily*
Well I'm underwhelmed by Kolarov so far, I thought he was poor against Bolton (sending off aside). Out of the city backline Hart is the most dependable rotation-wise, I'm certainly considering it.

He still nearly scored a couple of times though didn't he? We've been pretty unlucky with him so far... He has the potential to score very big one week, and with City's fixtures I reckon it will be soon.

Plus he's the cheapest option in the defence that has kept the most clean sheets.

Absolute no brainer having him IMO.

Hmm, I dunno. Tis one or t'other for me, will have to go stat rummaging on Kolarov. I'm not a 100% but I'm fairly sure he didn't score many in Italy.

        GW10-16:

        Hart 6.7m, 34p
        Cech 6.7m, 21p
Robinson 4.6m & Begovic 4.3m, 33p (all home fixtures, good home fixtures continue non-stop till GW28)

R&B is my decision, saves me about £2m also.

I’ve picked wrong most weeks too. Having said that I would probably pick the same way again each time, was a flip of the coin most times. Putting Foster on the bench at Citeh for example, even though my other option is only Carson was the right thing to do in my eyes. Sh*t happens. You got a green arrow this week at last! I did too, though was only a very small one.

I know what you mean, I didn't expect to go up this week at all after Saturday's showing. But 10pts more and you are up more than you expect to be. I'm not hopeful of a green arrow this week, doesn't look good, defence is beyond awful. Then again I've thought my team was pretty sound in previous weeks and they all clearly decided to go out on the piss on Friday night.. So maybe they'll suprise me.

May be brave and do Carroll to El Nino or just do two next week, really not sure a present.

I currently have Foster and Cech as my GK partnership. I'm happy with Foster but Cech was definitely a mistake. I want to downgrade Cech to give me more funds elsewhere but not sure how to play it. I like the look of the Robinson/Begovic combo as suggested above but playing two GK transfers over 2 weeks seems risky when I might need them for something else. Does anyone have a suggestion for a good partner for Foster or another way to proceed?

I'd keep Foster. I flirted with the idea of getting rid a few weeks back and decided against it in the end.. Birmingham are one of the best shouts for cleanies in the league, regardless of fixtures.

Begovic, Robinson and even Fabianski look like decent Cech replacements.

I would take the one game hit and bring Tevez in for GW18. Not convinced with Balotelli.

    Hart
    Vidic Coleman Kyrgiakos
    Arshavin Nani Jarvis Bale
    Elmander Drogba Carroll

    Subs: N’Zogbia Bosingwa KToure

Any obvious transfers? Strongest side? got £2.9m in bank. tempted by Balotelli for Drogba

Shifting Bosingwa if anything, solid team though.
Also not convinced by Arshavin, at the risk of edging onto the bandwagon Nasri does seem much better value. Not exactly screamingly important though.

Is Coleman getting a game? How about swapping him for Bardsley, Sunderland's defence have been pretty good this season and you will have 0.5 or so in the bank to boot as well.
