It’s here. After ten gruelling stages, we’re down to the final two participants of the Paddy Power Cup VI. Gameweek 37 saw our final four lock horns in the Semi-Finals. Here’s how they played out…

1. Optimus 45 – 69 mch

Both Optimus and mch nailed the captaincy for Gameweek 37, with the irrepressible Robin van Persie delivering the goods once again. The difference ultimately was mch’s relegation-threatened players proving they still had some fight left in them. A double Queens Park Rangers clean sheet, along with a bundle of points courtesy Martin Petrov puts him in the Grand Final.

2. DrD 53 – 49 ajay_kl

Joining mch is DrD after his razor-thin four-point victory over ajay_kl. Again, both Fantasy managers backed the Dutchmen with their captaincy, but what separated them was just the odd point here and there. An extra save point, a midfielder clean sheet, and Wayne Rooney’s assist was the difference.

So, the Gameweek 38 fixtures are as follows…

The Grand Final

mch (1,225th overall) Vs. DrD (1,260th)

3rd Place Play-Off

Optimus (1,676th) Vs. ajay_kl (42,029th)

In terms of overall standings it’s our closest ever final, with just 35 Fantasy Premier League places and a single point between mch and DrD.

Here’s a reminder of what’s at stake, courtesy of Paddy Power and ourselves…

  • Winner – £150 worth of free bets. £50 Amazon Voucher
  • Runner-up – £75 worth of free bets. £30 Amazon Voucher
  • 3rd Place – £50 worth of free bets. £20 Amazon Voucher

Good luck to all four managers competing in this final Gameweek of the 2011/12 season!

B sounds pretty good. I might be tempted to shift Bale rather than Demps on recent points scoring.

Any reason why people are ignoring Tevez and going for Aguero this week?

I'd pick Tevez, I think people are just going on the fact the Aguero has scored more goals more often...

Since his return Tevez has been the one who has dragged City to the finishing line... by the scruff of their collective necks...

If he hadn't been such an absolute tit early season he would have been their top scorer again...

but having said that... Aguero is .4 cheaper and i want to bring Torres in too... so i'll have to pass on Tevez...

Ok fair enough everyone, just wanted to go for a differential in order to rise up as far as possible, Aguero is not going to help me do that as it appears everyone around and above me is making that move.

I am also thinking of Eagles, as he is more than capable of double figure scores.

Nope, although I don't dislike him sufficiently to leave him out of my fantasy football team! He's an idiot who displays an arrogance which is completely inappropriate to his ability as a footballer and a human being as far as I can see. Possibly a bit harsh but it's just my opinion.

Maybe they're going on Blackburn's overall scoring form this season - they've not drawn a blank very often and Chelsea are likely to take it fairly easy to avoid injuries for the Champions League final.

I have him in my draft team but doubt he will stay there. I'm not sure how much gametime he has been getting at Spartak Moscow. Read he had fallen out with the manager. May be wrong on this. Maybe Vlad is about, he used to give me an update on how Adien was getting on in Russia

    Szcz
    Terry skrtel caulker (evans,Kelly)
    Siggy Moses vdv pienaar (demps)
    Rvp jelly aguero

Up against this side which I'm 5pts behind in money league
    Bog
    Kompany Figueroa jagielka
    Fellani Mata Moses petrov (hba)
    Rvp rooney tevez

I'm tempted to take a hit either in defence or midfield, my defence looks very weak but surely a hits not worth it in the last week?
Silva or nasri tempt me too but then I have an even bigger selection headache, guess I'd drop pie as I have jelly anyway.
    Any advice greatly received, thanks.

cheers for all your replies, really stuck this week, have 2 frees and 3.4m in back, team is:

          Schwarzer TOT (A)

Caulker LIV (H) / Jose Enrique SWA (A) Vermaelen WBA (A)

          Moses WOL (H) / Dempsey TOT (A) / Pienaar NEW (H) / Bale FUL (H)

          Jelavic NEW (H) / Rooney SUN (A) / Van Persie WBA (A)

          Bench: Mig, Miyachi, Taiwo, Evans

          Planned on doing Jelavic ->Aguero(c)

Unfortuantely that doesn't leave me enough cash to upgrade enrique or evans so was looking at a midfielder....

How much more do you think the field will narrow next season? I suppose only fpl towers could tell us, but how much has the points spread for 'players' (active teams) narrowed over the last 2 years now that RMT has become standard, even for bored housewives like me?

How much closer and higher do we expect averages to be next year?

I'm stuck most of year in 65-100k band, v hard to get out of it, admitettedly some poor capt choices coupled with Dempsey/cisse has cost me but I understand where your coming from in terms of 'the game narrowing ' due to similar teams, maybe HQ can develop a strategy going forward.

I am doing Jelly --> Aguero.

Which transfer should I take to fund the first one.

Ronney --> Tevez (and then play M.Davies)
    or
Brunt --> Hoolahan/Beausejour/AOC/Scholes (only got 5.2 to play with)

My rival's front three are Cisse,Rooney,Jelly, and he's leading by 3.

Tevez hasn't done much the last 3 gameweeks, I should know coz he cost me my ML lead when I got him instead of Petrov so I have a grouse. Try Brunt to Maloney, I suspect he has something up his sleeve and look particularly at his home form.

Thanks for the input. Maybe I'm too blinded by City's fixture.

I already own Maloney, so if Wigan, then Beuasejour.

                If Norwich, then Hoolahan/Pilkington.

Or a random punt on Scholes.

I see those as my best optins. Agree? Who'd u prefer?

Out of that lot it has to be Pilkington he is due a start and a goal. Scholes has got his goal already last week expect another next season (if he continues) and I don't see Hoolahan repeating the trick and to be honest. By the way, I really think people are under estimating the Villa defence.

Nasri is a better one week punt (Higher ceilin)

I'm doing this team for a friend but I can't really figure out what to do....they're in a H2H final against someone who's taken an 8 point hit. I've currently chosen this line-up without transfers...what to do...

    Ruddy
    Huth Verm Rafael
    Bale VDV Siggy Eagles
    Adebayor RVP(c) D.Cissé

    Howard McClean Lichaj Coloccini

1FT 0.3 in the bank. It needs City coverage but I'm not sure how to go about doing it...any thoughts?

Ok only 7 or 8 points behind my rival. Both have RVP/Cisse/Roon, and Bale/Demps in midfield. I have Sinclair who is fine this week, he has Valencia. I have Sess to his Moses. Should I block him off with Sess to Moses and hope other players outscore his, or Sess to Petrov for a punt?

Have thought Demps to Silva and captain as a major punt but all my punts blow up in my face I seem to do better taking the steady steady approach! So RVP captain for me this week and hope he doesn't as last week he did Roon which worked well for me...

I've got 0.2m in the bank. Don't really want to take a hit as they never work out for me! Or sell Rooney/RVP as had them since the start, would be sick to sell now and they go and get a couple. I can see Cisse scoring again this week too...

On DGW I took a four point hit for three transfers and scored the same as if I'd only done the two transfers I had in mind but was four points down overall lol 🙂

With only 7/8 points behind, you're not that depending on a big differential, but still u two got pretty similar teams. So if ure not too keen on a hit, then probably just do Demps-->Nasri/Silva, or Sess-->Ramires. And RVP(c).

I'm playing catch up with my brother who has a 14 point lead, any suggestions..

    I have

    Begovic/Defries

    Hibbert/Huth/Vermallen
    Bale/Dempsey/RVD/Pienar
    Rooney/Adebayour/Jellyfish

    He has

    Vorm
    Terry/Vermalen/Lescott
    Bale/Demspey/Scholes/Moses (Siggy on the bench)
    RVP/Rooney/Jellyfish

I was thinking of doing the following as I reckon he will be bringing Aguero in

    Rooney out Tevez in
    And then
Dempsey out and either Silva or Nasri in.

    What do you guys reckon.

    Cheers in advance

Just inside the top 10k for the 3rd season and plan on staying there!!
I would just like to say thanks to everyone in this community for help over the year!

Final gameweek situation = 16points clear of rival to win €250
My team = Schwartzer - Migs
Evans - BAE - Enrique - Ream - McAuley (terrible defence, 2pts last week)
Moses - Bale - VDV - Dempsey - Siggy (All 5 look good)
RVP - Rooney - Jelavic (All 3 look good)

I free transfer... Feeling rival will bring in Aguero (c) so prob need to combat that..

His differentials are = Begovic, Ruddy, Walker, Vauldwell, Caulker, Barfa, Petrov, P Cisse..

What do you guys think, one last piece of advice to bring home the bacon / dolla dolla bills!!

I've already got Tevez and want another City attacker. Which should I do:

    a) Dempsey - Silva
    b) Dempsey - Moses & Jelly - Aguero (-4)

    Thanks

28 points is a lot. You need to sell players you have in common and bring in high scoring differentials.

Which of your players does the other guy also have? Take one hit or maybe 2 to sell those guys and captain someone like Tevez or Torres.

    Ade/cisse > Tevez
    +
    Nani > ramires
    4 pt hit

    Or

    Nani > Silva
    Dempsey > Nasri
    4 pt hit

    Rival has Aguero

      Chasing?

Dempsey could still get some points @ spurs.

A looks best for imo! Then u spread some points on both Chelsea and City, instead of being to dependent on City doing good.
