Pro Pundits - Lateriser

Who are the best West Ham players in FPL ahead of their Gameweek 8 fixture swing?

Three-time top 200 finisher Lateriser takes a deep dive into the Premium Members Area statistics as he looks at the Hammers’ best Fantasy options for the weeks and months ahead.

West Ham United have impressed in the league so far this season. While David Moyes is everyone’s favourite meme, he’s giving it back to the critics by making some really good decisions.

At the back-end of the last campaign, West Ham were very close to getting relegated and Moyes made some difficult decisions in benching a lot of expensive talent – which paid off.

That trend has continued this season and the Hammers look like a completely different side. They sit amongst the best five teams in the league for shots in the box and are also amongst the top five for shots in the box conceded. Given that they have already faced Arsenal, Wolves, Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City so far, those numbers look even more impressive.

Moyes’ troops are about to embark on a great run of fixtures after their game against Liverpool this weekend, which extends right the way through until Gameweek 20. Keeping that in mind, I thought it would be a good idea to take a closer look at options from West Ham in both attack and defence.

As you can see above, this is a very impressive fixture run for the Hammers and they look primed for offering a lot of value at both ends of the pitch. After Liverpool at the weekend, they only face Manchester United and Chelsea from the traditional top six between Gameweeks 8 and 20.

Defence

I hope this deep dive into West Ham helps you with your decisions. Good luck for the Gameweek!

What is FPL Upside Chasing and how can I implement it in 2020/21?

I think Antonio out mens they'll have to defend more as their won't be any outlet. So they'll become weak at both ends

Defending more is only good news for Coufal and CS points. The way I see it is Haller = more crosses into the box from wingbacks

Antonio and Souček already on my team, Masuaku and Cresswell the only others on my radar. Bowen a great choice if you want someone other than Souček.
I expect Haller to start GW7, even with Antonio fit, if the intention is to boss from GW8 onwards.

Looking at GW9 when it all starts turning around in terms of fixtures. Who would you have in your team:

Fixtures aren't what they seem this season, so far anyway. Ings is a better striker than Calvert Lewin until CL can prove he can be as consistent as Ings.

    Thanks LR.

Been looking at Masuaku v Coufal myself. Masuaku is posting better numbers, and Coufal does seem to be prone to a YC [1], with 2 YCs in 3 games so far. So if both are nailed, I prefer Masuaku. But you've got me concerned about the possibility of Moyes switching to a 4231. That would mean Masuaku misses out... so perhaps Coufal is the wiser choice long term... I'm not sure...

Masuaku attacking returns virtually non existent last 4 seasons, just wondering why you would be favouring him over coufal?

      1. Piggs Boson
        • 12 Years
        3 years, 5 months ago

Because he wasn't playing wingback then, he is now. His underlying numbers are superb, and passes the eye test for me. Seen him put in some nice crosses and seems to have made huge improvements. Moyes praised him too.

Coufal's data isn't as good and he's prone to a YC.

But for security of starts I would still prefer Coufal over Masuaku atm. You don't really want to be spending a transfer on a 4.5m defender down the line, and the threat of a formation change is real. Either Fornals or Masuaku has to make way for Benrahma. So Coufal for now.

Fair enough re positional change for masuaku but I seem to recall him playing as a wb for West ham a good bit in the past too. He could as you say just be maturing as a player also which would help. Coufal looks the play to me unless we are confident of west ham cs in which case the extra for Cresswell might be worth it.

Very unsure what to do with this team - 2 ft

    Martinez (4.0 fodder)
    Mitchel, Dallas, Chilwell, Robertson, Saiss
    Grealish, Pulisic, Salah, Rodriguez, Bowen
    DCL, Kane, Wilson

    0.0 itb - 2 FT

    Any suggestions?

I have the same front three, I cant decide what to do with Wilson but I feel like I pretty much need to get Ings into the team. So I'd consider that, also going by last week I have nae idea what the situ is with Jrod now.

        Ings is a good shout

i feel like i need son for the long haul but will take 3 transfers to get him in, unless i downgrade robertson to a 4.0 and upgrade James

Aye, Son is an essential. I'm genuinely considering getting rid of DCL for the next few game weeks for a hit to get Ings and Chilwell/robbo in. Maybe having Adams instead alongside Son could be an option

Not sure still, i just cant see Moyes changing formation. People (thats me included) thinking West Ham be hammered most weeks with how bad their fixtures have been. But with the way theyve come out it, you really think Moyes will go 'well weve done really well, now lets change it all up'

      I just cant see it

Im going Masuaku, if he does get dropped, easy swap to Coufal

Roughly 50% chance. The downside is I don't think today's match will provide any indication on it. Lampard doesn't hesitate starting players he is happy with in back to back games. But he just randomly rotates some positions in some games.

    Martinez
    Robbo - Chilly - Dallas
    Salah(c) - Son - Pulisic - Grealish
    Kane - DCL - Maupay

    (KWP, 4.4m, 3.9m)

2 free transfers and not a clue what to do. Zilch in the bank.

Pulisic and Maupay are testing my patience at the minute, should I move them on?

Hmmm, I'm off the opinion that it's Ings or nothing from Soton

Maupay + Pulisic to Ings + Bowen?

I’d be making any transfers with gw10 fixture swing in mind. Look at who you’d want for that week and work your transfer plan to that.

Cresswell and Antonio are the two I am keeping eyes on.
Cresswell got a mean free kick on him too.

This is where I'm at too. Hopefully Antonio isn't out but that's 2 weeks in a row now with a question mark over his hamstring so even if he's passed fit this week I still might hang on and see.

Anyone know how nailed on Balbuena is? He has started the last 4 games.

I need a 4.4 defender and he seems the best option excluding Kilman & Mitchell

Guess he's alright but that extra 0.1 would help a lot

I'm in the same boat. Looking at him or a Newcastle player. Would guess he's fairly nailed for now though so leaning towards him.

Not owned any Everton assets all season (to my annoyance).

Dodged a bullet over the past 2 weeks.

Fixtures still good for them - should I be looking to get James / DCL in now?

Now is not the time for DCL with Digne out

Newcastle have a pretty damn good run of games coming up mostly against teams that concede, not too keen personally on the idea of dropping Wilson.
