With another Gameweek down, we rule over the fixture list once again, seeking out those sides who appear to have a smooth passage through the festive period and those who may well suffer a rough route into 2011…

The Highs

Man City
Roberto Mancini’s side unleashed the shackles somewhat against Bolton at the weekend, peppering their opponents’ goal with efforts. This new emphasis on attack, coupled with a defence that has kept the most clean sheets in the league, is taken into a run of games that has them face kind opponents both at home and away over the coming weeks. Discount the potentially tricky Eastlands clash with Everton in Gameweek 18 and the next real test doesn’t arrive until Gameweek 22 with a trip to the Emirates. Once back from bans, both Carlos Tevez and Aleksandar Kolarov look irresistible targets for this spell, while David Silva must creep into the reckoning in midfield.

Liverpool
Even before last night’s Anfield clash with Villa, Roy Hodgson’s side look to have a set of fixtures that allow them to progress up the table over the Christmas period. With Steven Gerrard set to return, possibly by Gameweek 19 if not before, Liverpool should gain extra impetus and could fetch reasonable returns at both ends. A punt on Sotirios Kyrgiakos as a goal-getting Bonus magnet at the back for just 5.1 looks a particularly good option with Newcastle, Fulham and Wolves in the next four.

Everton
The hugely encouraging display at Stamford Bridge will provide plenty of confidence for an Everton side that has struggled for consistency. They will take that boost into a home clash with Wigan this weekend and follow that with a run that, a trip to Eastlands aside, appears to give them potential to climb up the table. Clean sheets continue to look a big ask for Moyes’ men but owners of Tim Cahill will likely be holding firm right up to his expected departure for the Asian Cup over Christmas.

Also Consider…
Tottenham – The home clash with Chelsea won’t intimidate an in-form Spurs and following that, trips to Blackpool and Villa offer plenty of goal potential. They are followed by home clashes with Newcastle and Fulham.

West Brom
– a strong performance against Newcastle will provide a timely boost ahead of derby matches at Birmingham and at home to Wolves. Such matches are hard to call but meetings with Blackburn and Fulham follow to extend a decent run for Di Matteo’s side.

Fulham – Mark Hughes’ outfit have little form to cling to but can at least take comfort in a fixture list that hands them three Craven Cottage clashes that could help them dig their way out of the mire.

The Lows…

Arsenal
While Samir Nasri’s form has sparkled brightly enough to mask the flaws in Arsene Wenger’s defence, the fixture list hands them a series of tough tests that may yet reveal them further. The trip to Old Trafford this coming Gameweek starts proceedings, while clashes with Stoke, Chelsea and City in the next six appear to afford little by way of home comforts – they will all severe tests for very different reasons. Trips to Wigan and Birmingham meanwhile, provide unpredictable opponents who could stretch Wenger’s men. The message appears to be keep Nasri, think twice about further investment.

Man United
Aside from City, these are testing times for the top four. United’s clash with Arsenal this weekend is hard to call but, if Alex Ferguson’s men falter, they will face severe tests against Chelsea at the Bridge, followed by uncomfortable tussles with Sunderland (who have already seen off Chelsea) and Birmingham at St Andrews. Attacking returns should keep flowing but clean sheets look endangered over that run of four.

Newcastle
The new manager won’t get any favours from the fixture list. This weekend’s home meeting with Liverpool will provide a stern enough test but that’s followed by a decidedly tricky trip to Birmingham with consecutive clashes with top four candidates in City and Spurs to come next. Wigan and West Ham wait for them on the other side but by then the Magpies could be in deeper trouble.

Be wary of…
Stoke – home encounters with Blackpool, Fulham and Everton look crucial over the coming weeks but their run of away games that appear to offer little by way of potential returns.

West Ham – Two more trips to Blackburn and Fulham seem likely to extend the Hammers run of miserable away days and they are sandwiched between tough home matches with City and Everton.

Birmingham – fail in the local derby with Wolves this coming Gameweek and they will face a pressure home game with Newcastle before embarking on a nightmare run consisting of a trip to Goodison and home matches with United and Arsenal.

Mark Mark created the beast. He's now looking to tame it.

OK, my defence when Kyrgiakos comes in will be:

Vidic Kolarov Kyrgiakos + 2 from Alcaraz Simpson Coleman

With the first 3 likely to be picked for most of the games and as I prefer to play only 3 defenders, I'm thinking of taking Coleman out and leaving Simpson as a 'cheapie' who will rarely be selected.

Alcaraz is much less likely to be rotated than Coleman so Coleman is the weakest link.

    Sound sensible?

Yeah, Kyrgiakos is good for the foreseeable future. Leaves me 2 left to pick and Vidic and Kolarov have a decent run overall.

Alcaraz has 3 home games in 4 after Everton.

Basically, for the next say 6 games at least, it works well.

Camzy, Attila, still about? RBJ you out there man?

I have come to the conclusion I have two choices:

    Drogba > Rooney/Berba

    Carson > Foster

My team otherwise I'm happy with this week. Carson is away to Villa but they're crap. Having said that Carson doesn't really do clean sheets either so this might be the week to make the keeper switch? Like I'd said previously, I have 5mil in the bank so no worries there.

    What are your thoughts?

      Definitely not the 2nd one.

Foster's fixtures are terrible. I wouldn't touch him. Would much rather go for Gordon or Begovic.

Drogba out looks like the smart move this week. It's hard to tell now who to get, but you do have the CL game to make a choice. Hopefully, things will be clearer by then. You could also get Torres who's been slipping under the radar. Wait for him to drop first though.

Foster's fixtures are rubbish for the most part but I have Robbo for rotation. If I got Foster in this week I'd play him vs. Wolves.

I don't think Robbo will keep a cleanie against Bolton, and I already have him. It's either go for that and hope for points from Foster, or make the Drogba change, hoping for points from Torres or MU Forward. Since Spurs defence isn't great, I'm leaning towards the Foster move.

But yes, I'm awaiting CL games to find out fitness and availability etc...then move on Friday.

Thanks to all for useful comments!

So after 2 transfers next week this will be my team...

    Robinson Foster
    Evra Kolarov Baines G.Johnson Bosingwa
    Nani Bale Nasri VDV Cleverley
    Odemwingie Tevez Bent

I'm worried though that not having Cesc or Drogba may come back to haunt me. Do you think it's stupid to spunk so much on my defence? I have always had at least 2 cheap defenders over the years to give me money to spend elsewhere but am really liking the look of this squad.

What do people think... go back to cheap defenders and spend more elsewhere or aim for this squad?

Downgrade at least two of your defenders.

      It's way too heavy.

These December fixtures are known for goals. The players are more tired, and defenders lose both their footing and their concentration easier.

I'd get rid of Johnson and Bosingwa. Johnson is overpriced, and Liverpool aren't as likely to get offensive returns. Bosingwa is also an expensive investment and a rotation risk.

I haven't got Johnson yet, was thinking next week maybe. Liverpool have a decent run of fixtures and he is always likely to get some attacking points. I also think Bosingwa will be worth keeping hold of whilst Alex is out. Anyway thanks for advice, will have another think!

You're in the same position as me, I've got those 3 too.

My keeper is Hart though, and I have Nani, Nasri, Bale and N'Zog in midfield and Carroll and Davies up front.

My problem is that I don't want to get rid of either Tevez or Kolarov for just one week as I will want them both back for GW18.

So, I either bite the bullet and play Foley as my 4th defender in a 4-4-2 or I swap him for an upgrade. Or I get Cahill in for VdV.

What do you prefer? Health that recharges, or health pick-ups that restore health, where your overall health on any given level etc, is limited?

Both are obviously unrealistic, but the latter creates more of a challenge, ensuring that you are punished for any mistakes and there is a slight strategic element to your health management.

yup, toure has to go. baines probably looks like the best choice since u have konchesky already.

if possible, change konchesky> johnson, cole>ivanoic. i think it'd be a better combi. johnson and ivanoic are showing more potential lately.

Looking for some help on my team. Been doing ok, but haven't made good choices in my defence lately, and two Arse midfielders looks weak for the coming weeks. My team is here -

    http://fantasy.premierleague.com/M/entryhist.mc?id=1245039

    Here it is anyway -

    Foster (Robinson)

    Onouha, Cashley, Coleman (Foley, Williamson)

    Nasri, Bale, Arshavin, MGP, Nani

    Elmander, Caroll (Tevez)

4.5 in the bank. Could go for Toure or Krygiakos in for Williamson, or Cahill as a temp move Arsh. Any thoughts?

With 4.5 in the bank, why not Baines or G. Johnson for Williamson ? High end I know, but Baines has Wigan at home this week (and you could do worse than doubling up on Eve v. Wigan)and an OK schedule going forward and G. Johnson has a very good schedule and looked very dangerous yesterday.

Thanks guys. My concern about putting Cahill in is that my team starts to look the same as my main competitor who is 2 pts behind.

Anyway here are my latest thoughts -

        Johnson/ManC/Konchesky -> Williamson
        OR
        Johnson/ManC -> Cashley

        Cahill -> Arshavin
        OR
Balotelli -> Tevez and bench Arsh or MGP

Maybe consider Ethers and Huth frok STK, or Dempsey??

I guess it's back to the drawing board with regards to that option.

I too have Carroll and he's probably the safest, best valued player currently on the game (depending when you bought him). He's going nowhere.

When Bruce realises that he can't incorporate Bent, Gyan and Welbeck into the same team (as was clear for everyone to see on Sunday) one of them will need to drop out.

Sunderland play some pretty awful footballer without one of Malbranque or Zenden in their team. Hard to beat, but mind numbingly boring. Compare that to the side that played Chelsea and were absolutely brilliant.

If I was the Sunderland manager, Bent wouldn't be in my side. Fact.

betfair look similar, if you wanna open an account with them, let me know, ill give u a code for when yorue joining we both get free bets out of

Jamsiep, the money in the bank isn't part of a cunning plan, although I do like Torres fixtures of course from GW18 and am tempted to upgrade Elmander. I f@@ked up by going Arsha instead of Nasri but with Arsenal's upcoming fixtures am loathed to fix it. Alcaraz or Dann to Samba is on the cards, and I really must sort my keepers out. Schwarzer and Gordon perhaps.

Think I might ask for a WC for Xmas, can't wait to use it.

Very nice score this week, the start of a comeback?

Glad I'm not the only one who went with Arsh over Nasri. Hoping for Arshavin to do something against Man Utd anyway.

Strongest according to SAF, but he has been known to lie obviously. I'd Guess:

VDS, Rafa, Rio, Vidic, Evra, Park, Scholes, Fletcher, Nani, Berba, Rooney.

I think he may just give Smalling/Evans a confidence boosting run out.....

(Though I hope not- you should always have one experienced centre back to help nurture the youth.....)

Nah, have to win to avoid Barca, Real, Bayern etc. Give them a run out if it gets comfortable.

David Dunn IS a sicknote. That's about all we do know. Remember last year when he was due back every weekend for about a month? Was a nightmare, never again!
