Crunch time has arrived. This Sunday brings the curtain down on another season and, at the top of the Fantasy Premier League (FPL), and over mini-leagues everywhere, there’s still plenty to play for. The handing out of the captain’s armband will, as ever, be a decision that proves crucial…

Manchester City have the best home record of the season (17 victories and a draw) by a country mile and QPR have accrued the least points on their travels (11 out of 54) out of all twenty Premier League sides.

This all points to the fact that we’re 90 minutes away from seeing Roberto Mancini’s men being crowned as Champions for the first time. It also explains just why Sergio Aguero is blazing ahead as the prime candidate for the Fantasy captain in this final Gameweek.

With the Citizens tipped for goals and their leading goalscorer and penalty taker the focal point of their attack, Aguero’s dominance is easy to explain. The reluctance to gamble on some of the rich talent playing behind him is perhaps more of a mystery. Even Carlos Tevez, the spark behind City’s late revival, can be found floundering in fifth spot in our poll, with just 4% of the vote compared to Aguero’s 39%.

Robin Van Persie is undoubtedly the real alternative. This season’s likely top goalscorer and Fantasy elite member, Van Persie, is earmarked as “Plan B” – a intriguing position for the Gunners’ striker who, for once, has emerged as a differential when it comes to the captaincy.

Arsenal find themselves safe in the knowledge that a win away at the Hawthorns will see them qualify for the Champions League, regardless of what any of their rivals manage on Sunday. Van Persie will surely spearhead the effort against the Baggies and there’s every chance we’ll see him add to his 30 goal tally.

Can Van Persie outscore Aguero on Sunday? The Arsenal skipper has returned double figures 12 times to Aguero’s eight and half of Van Persie’s big hauls have come on away trips. However, in Aguero’s case, six of his eight big scores have arrived in front of his home fans. While Aguero drew a blank in 67 minutes against QPR earlier in the season, Van Persie chipped in with a goal and an assist in one of his double figure returns, when Roy Hodgson’s side drew up at the Emirates.

It’s a huge call and, from the current poll results, it’s clear that these two are splitting opinion: mini-leagues could well be decided purely on their fortunes tomorrow afternoon.

Beyond the two goalscoring heavyweights, we find ourselves swimming with the sharks, surrounded by risky options that provide plenty of scope to recover leads but with just as much potential heartache thrown in. Both of these sentiments are perfectly typified by one Fernando Torres.

With a hat-trick at home to QPR still fresh in the memory, there’s some renewed faith in a striker who has been stung by much criticism over the last season and a half. Another home fixture for Torres, against a relegated Blackburn outfit (they were bad when supposedly trying to stay in the league, can they get worse?), offers us a tempting attacking option who walks the tightrope that Fantasy managers in the ‘Last Chance Saloon’ will surely need to consider.

Tottenham, as so often is the case, offer another viable source of alternatives. They came good over the double Gameweek and, despite frustrating at Villa last time out, the likes of Emmanuel Adebayor and, in particular, Rafael Van der Vaart, may just offer a final spurt to push Spurs and our Fantasy squads over the line. Fulham’s threat has been blunted by the absence of Clint Dempsey and Spurs have to attack to earn the three points. A home win looks likely and Van der Vaart is a strong bet to be involved in any goals scored.

The Aguero vs Van Persie argument will likely settle the score this weekend, with Van der Vaart a suitable armband route for those looking to throw rivals off the scent. Torres is the real outsider – undoubtedly he’ll be looking to play his way into Chelsea’s Champions League final lineup, but will he get the assistance from team-mates to stake his claim? If he comes good, Torres could, against the odds, make a significant final impact on our seasons.

Our Captain’s Poll is found in the middle menu of the Homepage and will be collecting your votes right through until tomorrow morning.

      No. You could make it back through that differential alone if things go right for you. If you lack differentials you definitely can't afford a points hit unless it is for someone who is guaranteed to outscore your current player by more than a goal or assist.

    8 points clear of ML rival.

    He also has only 2 available defenders.

    My team

    Ruddy
    Vermaelen Lescott X
    Sigurdsson Petrov Bale Valencia
    Cisse Jelavic RVP

    Which transfer to make?

    A) Cahill -> Clichy
    B) Cahill & Cisse -> Torres & Bennett (4pt)
    C) Cahill & Cisse -> Adebayor & Alcaerez (4pt)

        I think me might get Aguero in for Rooney and go with Aguero Jelavic RVP. But he has a weaker midfield and will go with 2 defenders or take a 4 point hit leaving him 12 behind. I think conservatism is best and will go Clichy in for Cahill. Double up on City's defence and a clean sheet there largely combats their attacking threat. Thanks.

    Right so it's tight at the top of my ML. Two of us on level pegging at the top with one a pt behind. I annoyingly did Evans to Clichy on Thursday and now Dempsey is out.

    Should I take a 4pt hit and who should I bring in. My midfield is this atm.

    McClean-Bale-Dempsey-Siggy-Pienaar

    Is Dempsey to VDV for 4pts worth it with it being so tight in my league???

          I agree but can you safely say that any other midfielder is likely to score more than an assist or goal (which is what you need to make a profit). I would say Maclean is as likely to make an assist or score a goal as any other midfielder is to make 2 goals/assists so stick and don't take the hit.

    Currently got armband on Tevez (25 points behind rival who has Aguero) but thinking about changing it to VDV..just have a feeling the Citeh game will be quite tight as both teams have so much to play for, whilst Fulham may be just going through the motions and Spurs will put a few past them.. is this madness?

      If he hasn't got VDV then it could be a genius move. It' the type of risk you might need to take.

      I'm not confident Tevez will be on the pitch long enough to give you a decent armband score.

      If he plays left back, which is unknown even now, Modric will be on the left with Scotty and Sandro central.

      Modric doesn't like the left, he drifts in, Bale bombs forward and the back line slides a bit. It's pretty simple, he doesn't change all too much.

          Don't you think it's an unnecessary risk to play Torres in a game like this in case he's needed in the CL final? Sturridge isn't going to play in the CL final I'd say as he's not played any other CL game under RDM this far?

            I guess there is a chance of that. Personally, I doubt it. I think Torres will want the game time to show his stuff for the Euro's if not the CL final, and I think RDM will let him. He hasn't had to play that much really, I don't think its much of a risk to give him 70 minutes. You're right though, he could be rested.

    I have a 17 points lead in my mini-league, with the only significant differences from rival is that he has Moses and Cisse and I have Valencia and Jelly.

    Worth doing a 4 point hit? And if yes, do it on either:

    A) Siggy --> Moses (to copy rival)
    B) Jelly --> Cisse (to copy rival)
    C) Rooney --> Aguero (to buy a player I have faith in scoring big to ensure that a big moses/cisse score won't destroy my first place.

        ah - it could also be that Dempsey dropped...all i know is that selling Dempsey and Jelly to buy Aguero and Moses would have been achievable last night with 0.1 left in the bank. This morning I am 0.3 short *grumble*

    3 points off the top of my ML

    Current attack: Jelavic, Aguero, Rooney.

    For a 4 point hit, should I swap it for: Jelavic, Aguero, RVP?

    Or, for a 4 point hit, should I swap it for: Torres, Aguero, Rooney?

    having a hard time picking my captain this weekend. my rival has rvp/tevez/rooney up top and vdv in midfield. i have 20 pts on him. in an ideal world we pick the same captain (normally i wouldn think this way, but as im ahead and its the last gw...) however, i have aguero. do i captain rvp just to cover that base or do i go with aguero, him being a more solid pick considering his home form/opposition/wba's recent home defensive record?

    this gameweek is excrutiating, i've been overthinking everything.

      Probably better to have the front seven you want imo, if you have to be short better it's a defender.
      I still don't like playing without 11. I would consider a hit rather than play 10. But it would only be for a good player from a team with a decent chance of a CS.

    Vorm
    Verm, Walker, Terry
    Nasri, VDV, Pienaar, Moses
    Aguero(c), Tevez, Jelly

    Krul, Siggy, Evans, Shotton

    Making 2 transfers, Clint and RVP to Nasri and Kun for 4 points. Considering selling Jelly instead of RVP but it would involve downgrading Terry and an 8 point hit in total. Have a 30 point deficit to overturn hence the all out City attack.

    Ok, my first ever post on here but Ive been checking this site for the 2nd half of this season - its great so next season I'll defo be signing up!

    I have an 11 point league in my cash ML, my team currently looks like:

    VORM (KRUL)
    GIBBS EVANS JAGIELKA (SKRTEL) (KELLY)
    VDV BALE DEMPS SIGGY (SURMAN)
    RVP(c) ROONPIG JELLY

    0.7m in the bank and 2 frees. Obviously Demps is now out and Evans unlikely so what should I do? Bear in mind my rival has the following team and has just done 2 trannies (I believe for a -4) His team is:

    109m team val
    0.1m in bank

    RUDDY VORM
    TURNER LESCOTT SMALLING SIMPSON TAYLOR
    VALENCIA SESSEGNON DEMPSEY BALE SIGGY
    CISSE VP ROON

    Now:

    2 transfers (last night)
    108.7m team val
    0.1m in the bank

    So do I start Nani or Siggy?

    If I knew he was going to start I would pick Nani - he has the most potential. I'm worried he will come off the bench for 1 point though. Should I play safe and play Siggy or gamble on Nani?

      siggy could do well anyway. i'd reason it this way- if nani had points on your bench you could console yourself with the thought that you made the reasoned, sensible option. however, if siggys points were on your bench and you had nani's 1 point from 10 minutes you'd feel like an utter twat

    4 points ahead of my closest rival. Which should I do?

    My team:
    Vorm,
    Kelly, Turner, Vermaelen
    VDV, Valencia, Bale, Sigurdsson
    Jelavic, Rooney, Van Persie

    Schwarzer, Simpson, Evans, Dempsey

    Rival's team:
    Vorm
    Taylor, Hibbert, Kelly,
    Moses, VDV, Valencia, Miyaichi
    Jelavic, Rooney, Van Persie

    Krul, Simpson, Evans, Dempsey

    A) Rooney -> Aguero
    B) Rooney -> Aguero, Evans -> Kompany (-4 pts)
    C) Jelavic -> Aguero, Dempsey -> Moses (-4 pts)
    D) Jelavic -> Aguero, Dempsey -> Moses, Evans -> Clichy (-8 pts)
    E) Jelavic -> Aguero, Dempsey -> Fergusson, Evans -> Kompany (-8 pts)
    F) Others

    Cheers!!
