Sunday morning’s deadline creeps ever closer and it’s time for a final roll of the dice. There’s only one chance left to overhaul that mini league lead and if you’re anything like me, then nothing short of a miracle will suffice. What’s needed is something truly special – a player that no one else has returning a monster score as captain, while the big names have an off day…

Very unlikely, of course, but while that chance remains there is always hope. With this in mind, we’ve picked out a trio of differential captain options, in the hope that one can help you pull off an epic last day turnaround to rival that glorious sunny day in 1994.

Leighton Baines

David Moyes is notoriously difficult to predict at times, but reports suggest that the ex-Wigan man has been back in training this week and looks set to return against Newcastle, providing an interesting option as a last day punt.

Everton’s impressive form over the last eight games has seen then turn in five clean sheets and score four or more goals on three separate occasions. What’s more, they’ve shipped just one goal at home in the last seven, a run that has seen City, Chelsea and Spurs come away from Goodison without a goal between them. Form is definitely on their side, then, and although Newcastle will be desperately pushing for the win to give them a chance of Champions League qualification, Everton will be confident they can keep the likes of Papiss Cisse and Hatem Ben Arfa at bay.

Defensive returns alone aren’t enough to pull in a monster score but, as arguably the most attacking defender in the league, Baines offers huge potential at both ends of the pitch and could easily top double figures. It’s a big risk of course; to maximise returns as captain, you’re relying on him playing 90 minutes and keeping a clean sheet, and will probably need a penalty or a couple of assists to boot. If there is anyone capable of pulling it off at Goodison though, Baines is your man and with just 5.5% ownership in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, he would be a huge differential captain.

Carlos Tevez

If there is one player in the league capable of racking up a cricket score this week, it’s Carlos Tevez. With just 2.3% ownership compared to Sergio Aguero’s 29%, the Argentine maverick has the power to completely overhaul a mini league gap in one fell swoop.

After a huge 19 point haul against Norwich, he has not done much of late but we all know what Tevez capable of. Hugely influential in City’s late surge towards the title, he will be looking to further redeem himself in the only way he knows how; scoring a shed load of goals. With the extra incentive of beating his old club to the Premier League title, Tevez will be bouncing off the walls; chances are he’s either going to get sent off or score a hat-trick.

Priced at 11.6, squeezing Tevez into your team won’t be easy, and you may need to consider *gulp* dropping the imperial Robin Van Persie. We’re talking desperate measures here, though, and if you’re going to pull off a miracle, then you’ll probably need Van Persie to have a shocker at the Hawthorns anyway.

Andy Carroll

Second only to team mate Luis Suarez in terms of Fantasy frustrations this term, and with just one double figure return all season, Andy Carroll is perhaps the biggest gamble of our trio. With so much potential on offer, and so many chances handed to him on a plate, the former Newcastle man has hit the post or been edged off the ball at the vital moment time and again. It might be a slight cliché to say that Carroll is due a bumper haul, however, but he really is. One look at our members stats show he has been a real handful over the past four Gameweeks, creating umpteen goalscoring opportunities and firing several efforts at goal. Despite the fact that Carroll has returned just a single assist since Gameweek 34 onwards, only Van Persie has offered more in terms of key passes and goal attempts.

Don’t be fooled into thinking Liverpool have nothing left to play for. If they better Everton’s result against Newcastle, they will leapfrog their city rivals into seventh – this may seem like small consolation but means a huge amount to anyone associated with either Merseyside club. Coming off the back of a 4-1 thrashing of Chelsea and up against a Swansea side that are have shipped four goals in their last home game, Liverpool will be looking for a big win here and, with a bit of luck, Carroll could be just the man to take advantage.

Evening all! Rarely ask for advice but im in abit of a pickle...

    Current front 8:

    Bale - VDV - HBA - Petrov - (Dempsey)

    Aguero RVP Jelavic

As it stands i'd be benching Dempsey. In your opinion though, is there anyone thats worth a hit to get in for clint this week?
If i were to sell him, i'd then have to choose someone else to bench too..

I have a 9 point lead in my ML. Person in 2nd has taken a 4 point hit - so lead is effectively 13 points. I have no FTs left.

    My team is:

    Vorm
Verm - Clichy - Turner (Evans, Kelly)
VDV - Bale - Valencia - Siggy (Pienaar)
    RVP(C) - Rooney - Jelly

I'm worried the person in 2nd might have brought in Aguero.

    Would you:

a). Do nothing and hope the 13 point lead is enough
b). Rooney > Aguero (2nd also has Rooney so this could be risky)
    c). Bale > Maloney & Jelly > Aguero(C) (8-point hit)

I'd really appreciate your help. The person in 2nd is my sister......losing would be unbearable!

Any particular reason you favour Bale. Also im chasing a 27pt lead on my rival who has Bale, do you think Bale has is someone I need this week to not loose ground as I have quite a few different players to my rival, or is and extra differential with Moses potentially a ML winner?

I was down at a place called Hill Head yesterday which is on the coast not too far from Southampton. Drove past Peter Crouch's luxury house which is elevated and facing towards The Solent and Cowes. Absolutely incredible place !!

    Hi currently 14pts behind leader

My squad at the moment is as follows

    Mignolet krul

    Caulker evans vermaelen turner skrtel

    Dempsey siggurdson vdv bale Valencia

    Rooney jelavic rvp

1ft and 0.0m in the bank

    His squad is as follows:

    Bogdan mignolet

    Williamson Enrique Kompany koscielny caulker

    Valencia petrov bale pienaar cabaye

    Aguero rvp rooney

    1ft 0.0m in the bank

So how is the best way to make up the 15pt lead?

Do I take out rooney for ageuro and make him captain which I think he will and hope the rest of my team can make the points up?

Or do I take a risk on someone like torres, tevez or ade as captain hoping he can be a differential and score a hattrick?

Iv also played some mind games to my opponent and told him I will put in aguero to cancel him out but put someone else in to make captain. In doing this I hope he gets put off of makin ageuro captain.

You make up 15 pts by having at least 4 different forwards and cpt the best bet or 3 and cpt a differential (Jelavic or VdV) . . . and then hoping you get lucky - simples.

It's tough. The more lopsided games involve the more expensive players this week, so there are no cheap strikers that I fancy. I'd switch Dempsey to Silva and play 3-5-2, and Skrtel to a city defender.

are they free? presume u are looking for a differential with tevez ahead of aguero. aguero will get 90 mins, tevez will get 70. chelsea look to be weakened a lot tomorrow so torres may not get the service. If u are behind in your league they are worth the risk, if u are ahead u could be more resered with the transfers.

aaaarg 11 hrs to go! Have been changing my mind all week, bravest move being to sit tight with the free transfer and bring in a good defender to replace Taylor...... just seen 3 oppos in league have all made 2 transfers so down to chasing 4,8 and 42 points for climbing the table....

    team as is:-

    Friedel
    Verm, Boyce, Taylor [Evans, Turner]
    Siggy, Pienaar, VDV, BArfa [Dempsey]
    RVP, Cisse, Adebayor

    thinking:

0 hit would bring in Evra or Clichy

a -4 hit to put BArfa on the bench, and bring in PETROV or NASRI or YOUNG or or or or or

THE ETERNAL PROBLEM: BArfa likely to get 2 minimum, so relacemt has to be pretty sure to get minimum of 6

What do you all think - stick with BARFA and steal 4pts from rivals? I have good diffs in Boyce, Ade, and a couple more.....

    ???

I am counting on VDV to deliver for me against a weakened Fulham. Can you really discount Cisse to score and will MCTY really go goal wild if they are winning match comfortably? Cheap midfielder though I am looking at Petrov myself, but can;t decide if he is worth the 4pts.

it is a risk betting against cisse especially with a points hit. i like the idea of a frint 3 rooney, rvp and aguero/tevez for the last day of the season. cheap midfielder options are tough, maybe cabaye for 6 or maloney
