Sunday morning’s deadline creeps ever closer and it’s time for a final roll of the dice. There’s only one chance left to overhaul that mini league lead and if you’re anything like me, then nothing short of a miracle will suffice. What’s needed is something truly special – a player that no one else has returning a monster score as captain, while the big names have an off day…

Very unlikely, of course, but while that chance remains there is always hope. With this in mind, we’ve picked out a trio of differential captain options, in the hope that one can help you pull off an epic last day turnaround to rival that glorious sunny day in 1994.

Leighton Baines

David Moyes is notoriously difficult to predict at times, but reports suggest that the ex-Wigan man has been back in training this week and looks set to return against Newcastle, providing an interesting option as a last day punt.

Everton’s impressive form over the last eight games has seen then turn in five clean sheets and score four or more goals on three separate occasions. What’s more, they’ve shipped just one goal at home in the last seven, a run that has seen City, Chelsea and Spurs come away from Goodison without a goal between them. Form is definitely on their side, then, and although Newcastle will be desperately pushing for the win to give them a chance of Champions League qualification, Everton will be confident they can keep the likes of Papiss Cisse and Hatem Ben Arfa at bay.

Defensive returns alone aren’t enough to pull in a monster score but, as arguably the most attacking defender in the league, Baines offers huge potential at both ends of the pitch and could easily top double figures. It’s a big risk of course; to maximise returns as captain, you’re relying on him playing 90 minutes and keeping a clean sheet, and will probably need a penalty or a couple of assists to boot. If there is anyone capable of pulling it off at Goodison though, Baines is your man and with just 5.5% ownership in the Fantasy Premier League (FPL) game, he would be a huge differential captain.

Carlos Tevez

If there is one player in the league capable of racking up a cricket score this week, it’s Carlos Tevez. With just 2.3% ownership compared to Sergio Aguero’s 29%, the Argentine maverick has the power to completely overhaul a mini league gap in one fell swoop.

After a huge 19 point haul against Norwich, he has not done much of late but we all know what Tevez capable of. Hugely influential in City’s late surge towards the title, he will be looking to further redeem himself in the only way he knows how; scoring a shed load of goals. With the extra incentive of beating his old club to the Premier League title, Tevez will be bouncing off the walls; chances are he’s either going to get sent off or score a hat-trick.

Priced at 11.6, squeezing Tevez into your team won’t be easy, and you may need to consider *gulp* dropping the imperial Robin Van Persie. We’re talking desperate measures here, though, and if you’re going to pull off a miracle, then you’ll probably need Van Persie to have a shocker at the Hawthorns anyway.

Andy Carroll

Second only to team mate Luis Suarez in terms of Fantasy frustrations this term, and with just one double figure return all season, Andy Carroll is perhaps the biggest gamble of our trio. With so much potential on offer, and so many chances handed to him on a plate, the former Newcastle man has hit the post or been edged off the ball at the vital moment time and again. It might be a slight cliché to say that Carroll is due a bumper haul, however, but he really is. One look at our members stats show he has been a real handful over the past four Gameweeks, creating umpteen goalscoring opportunities and firing several efforts at goal. Despite the fact that Carroll has returned just a single assist since Gameweek 34 onwards, only Van Persie has offered more in terms of key passes and goal attempts.

Don’t be fooled into thinking Liverpool have nothing left to play for. If they better Everton’s result against Newcastle, they will leapfrog their city rivals into seventh – this may seem like small consolation but means a huge amount to anyone associated with either Merseyside club. Coming off the back of a 4-1 thrashing of Chelsea and up against a Swansea side that are have shipped four goals in their last home game, Liverpool will be looking for a big win here and, with a bit of luck, Carroll could be just the man to take advantage.

Hmmm - maybe good feeling. If Kun scores 2 I may do well.
        I am in 4th and chasing 4, 8 and 42 for lead.

Em does it all herself and was ahead all season until two or three weeks ago....

She came 6th overall worldwide in December gamemonth two years ago!!

I am having a real hard time making my own decision though.... have good diffs from guys above me, but need to call whether its worth taking 4pts to bring in a MF over BArfa. You can look at my team [link in name] and tell me what you reckon if you have two mins - be real appreciated from someone in top 500!!! I see you had the exact same BArfa/Dempsey issue I have. Any advice would be welcome.... you went for Kun like everyone else?

        How you feeling about tomorrow?

"if Kun scores 2" as in 2 points, not 2 goals.

If Kun scores 2 goals I am screwed.

Nice! Sick, 6th worldwide is huge. After a quick look i like your team. Havent checked your rivals though. I'd ship Dempsey on a boat back to america, and bring in Silva or Nasri. Believe you should have some city cover for tomorrow. Like Ade up front, he could bag you some goals against fulham, hoping theyll lack creativity without Dempsey. I did 3 changes for a hit, shipping out demps, evans and cisse (having seconds thoughts over that one) for clichy, maloney and Kun for (c).
Im having a good feeling, Cisse must score 11 goals for me to lose my ML 50(-4) ahead, so im pretty calm, just looking forward to some premiership drama 🙂 barfa is on my bench, though pardew stated They will go all in tomorrow, maybe he'll grab an assist or a goal?

Cisse out - I was seriously thinking that until couple of days ago. Big call. I can see Kun getting small pts and need the differentail for all or nothing.

Clichy is a big poss for me - if not Evra or Kompany or similar. Prob make panic attempt tomorrow at 11:15 and find site is crashing from overuse......

Demps - Maloney. Nice. He looks way better than Moses for some reason. Also thinking Hoolahan for a wild option! Or Petrov keeps calling me, but no-one ever seems to put many past Stoke at home....

My diffs from the 42pts I am chasing are Ade, Friedel, Boyce, Siggy and poss VDV and RVP, hard to tell......

Would love to be ahead and not worry about hits, but 4pts might be all it takes esp if BArfa gets 5 or 6 pts.... but he has been pretty quiet for past few weeks. I heard he just got named in French euro squad, so maybe he will be all fired up from that? WHO KNOWS?

Nice to get your thoughts though Erik... Good luck tomorrow!!

Like your diffs, you should bag second place! Honestly, 42 pts is a lot, but Rvp 3 goals, vdv and ade might kick it, friedel cs, siggy to piss on pool and boyce cs, you never know my friend, shit can switch upside down like that. Barfa keeps calm for some gw, and then he strikes. He'll stay on my bench, but im hoping for you that he'll get some points tomorrow. Thanks mate, good luck to you as well, fingers crossed 🙂

Talk me up talk me up I like it.

Apart from deciding on a defender, BArfa is my only hard call for 4 pts.
I like the idea of nerves of steel and keeping him and bagging 12 pts....
Would be my decision of the season.....

                Fingers very crossed indeed.....

Look to your mini league and do the opposite is all i can say to that..... don't write Jelly off though he scores in 2/3 games consistently throughout career pretty much.

Defending a slender 4 points lead. Rival has done 1 transfer this GW. Which should I do?

    My team:
    Vorm,
    Kelly, Turner, Vermaelen
    VDV, Valencia, Bale, Sigurdsson
    Jelavic, Rooney, Van Persie

    Subs: Schwarzer, Simpson, Evans, Dempsey

    Predicted rival team:
    Vorm
    Taylor, Hibbert, Kelly,
Moses, VDV, Valencia, Dempsey -> Mata/Bale/Silva
    Jelavic, Rooney, Van Persie

    Subs: Krul, Simpson, Evans, Miyaichi

    A) Rooney -> Aguero (c) *Go for the kill and captain differential*
    B) Evans -> Kompany *Mirror frontline and build defence*
    C) Rooney -> Aguero, Evans -> Kompany *do both and take a 4pt hit*
    Others

    Cheers

      B

Tough decision though, I'm going to say no hit but that's all the more reason to do it...my rival has over come a 44 pt diff by taking big hits every week.

Thinking of swapping RVP for Aguero so my front 3 is Cisse, Tevez & Kun. Expecting Citeh to ease past QPR tomorrow so I'm keen on having both strikers 🙂

The other option would be Lennon to Yaya to get as much City cover as possible.

    Any thoughts?

Hmmm, even though i might see city grab a huge win (cfc did without their XI) I dont like getting them both. Aguero to outscore tevez, not sure tevez to outscore rvp

Thinking that Aguero will score more too, but a straight swap between him and Tevez seems pointless.

I'll take out RVP for Kun, everybody get ready for a RVP hat-trick... 😉

20 points behind going into this week.

    Sorenson Vorm
    Simpson Terry Evans Turner Kelly
    Valencia Bale VDV Dempsey Siggy
    RVP Jelavic Cisse

    His team:
    Vorm Krul
    Turner Evans R.Taylor Cuellar Huth
    Bale Petrov Siggy Walters Sess
    RVP Rooney Jelavic

Trying to work out the best way to catch him, only 1 FT and 4.5 in the bank, pretty sure he reads this site so will go for a striker to Aguero, any ideas??

    LAST MINUTE SEASON DECISION!

Chasing by 6pts, do I get any midfield and sell HBA (already have cisse) for a -4pt hit or not.
    Price is not a problem.

    A) Get Yaya (already have aguero captain)
    B) Get Moses
    C) Get Silva
    D) Young (No utd Coverage)
    E) do not do the -4pt hit
    F) other options

      my problem exactly

      A B and C I think overrated.
D good when he is good.
E works if your team has diffs already
      F Hoolahan, Scholes, Petrov

        already got Petrov
My team has 6 diffs but I have no Idea what transfers he will do.
I think I will not make any extra transfer because if I did a 4point hit and he did not then the difference is 10pts which is something I can not afford, but if he did the -4 and I did not then the difference is 2 points. I have to win, not an option. so what do you think? and maybe HBA will do sth.

HBA or not HBA that is the question..... anyone you change him for has to score 6 to break even. Decisions can only be seen to be great or poor tomorrow at 4:50pm.

6 diffs gotta be enough right?

I am chasing 42 and am wary about losing 4pts for it - esp as BArfa is a diff....

Man you convinced me enough I can not afford to be down 4 more points.
lets just hope HBA will score, that would be perfect.
Decision made its a risk that I can't simply take right now.
