Scoutcast Episode 360 – Opportunities for FPL managers during Blank Gameweek 18

Joe is joined by Karam and new regular Scoutcast host Seb to try to make sense of the fixture change impacting on Gameweek 18.

Content creators are having a tough time of late. As soon as a video or podcast is painstakingly researched and presented, a major announcement changes everything. Lately, that has been due to COVID-19, with players forced to isolate and games postponed.

This time around the Scoutcast has escaped such changes by scheduling its latest episode last night (Monday, January 11), just hours after it emerged that Tottenham’s game with Aston Villa on Wednesday had been put back due to COVID-19 concerns.

Instead, Jose Mourinho’s troops will take on Fulham in a hastily rearranged game that falls far more kindly in the Gameweek for owners of Spurs stars Harry Kane (£11.0m) and Son Heung-min (£9.8m).

Understandably, this important fixture change tops the bill in a show that marks the debut for Seb as the Scoutcast’s new regular co-host with Joe.

Also joining this week is Karam, who has had his own experience with coronavirus recently. He reveals how he was been isolating after a positive test and thankfully is now fighting fit to once again tackle this most irregular of seasons.

Our trio reveal their Gameweek 18 plans and the players they are targeting. Joe has already pressed the button on his Free Hit chip but Karam only needs one or two transfers to field a credible side. Meanwhile, Seb is Free Hit-curious, and undecided on whether to deploy this chip.

Differentials during this limited set of fixtures are also taken in. Are Wolves and Everton players being unfairly neglected?

Elsewhere, Arsenal’s low owned gems are scrutinised and long-term fixtures are frisked in a show that aims to ensure Fantasy Premier League managers are well prepared for today’s Gameweek 18 deadline.

The Scoutcast will return on Thursday night, when Joe, Seb and their guest will dust off their notes once again and focus on the coming weekend’s Double Gameweek 19.

As with many teams without very high TV, it boils down to whether prefer having Lacazette in team or Rashford

Either worth a hit? Both James and DCL are out for a while so I'm tempted.

    James > Stones or Dias

DCL > Wilson, Antonio or Cavani

Boils down to this (dependent on Sterling fitness)

    A) Stones, Auba, Martial
    B) Tierney, Sterling, Laca

    Opinions much appreciated

A but don’t love the Auba pick. A lot to pay for someone who may come off the bench.

Any glaring errors in this WC...
Covering a -16 (haven’t wanted to lose too much value in certain players).

    Martinez | Fabianski*
    Cancelo* | Stones | Dallas | Coufal | Lowton*
    KDB* | Fernandes | Son | Grealish | Soucek
    Kane | Wilson* | Bamford

    * (players traded in)
    BB in gw19.

Well first of all you don't have a playing GK this week?
Would not get Lowton. If you want any Burnley players surely it is Pope and/or Wood
Grealish is too much of a risk on WC. Even if the game against Everton goes ahead he could miss out due to Covid. He could also get a YC and miss the second game.
Dno if Fabianski will be fit to start?
Dallas and Bamford is too much if they don't play Southampton next GW.
On a WC I think Wilson could be downgraded to McGoldrick or even Brewster to save funds for elsewhere.

If you're doing a WC with BB in mind for DGW19 I think you should avoid: Villa, Leeds, Southampton, Wilson, Lowton

But if you're not going to BB in 19 then I think keeping especially Martínez makes sense.
Would partner him with Areola if Parker don't say anything about him being ill or something

        Cheers.
I don’t want to unsettle my team too much for a couple of gameweeks and then leave myself in a position where I lose points on the other side.
I was going to take the -12 as these are really the only trades I am willing to make, I can then revert to “normal” within 2 GWs.
        Thoughts...?

Your team for GW18 looks like

      Cancelo - Stones - Lowton
      KDB - Fernandes - Son
      Kane - Wilson

That is simply too weak when on WC

        See above.
WC was more to cover a -12 than build a team for simply two gameweeks and then navigate trying to get back to a set best team.

Have Stones on WC already so double up with whom for the long term:

    A) Dias - safety of starts and probably a goal or two in him by the time the season ends
B Cancelo - has the stats to suggest assists are coming but will miss the odd game with Zink, Mendy, Walker about

On a WC you'd want Cancelo.
You now have the opportunity to have a good 4th or 5th defender to cover when he misses the odd game 😉

        Yep agree with this.

      Pondering the same.
Walker plays on the right and Mendy seems out of favour.
I think Cancelo’s security is quite high so leaning that way.

    So,

    Lloris

    Tierney, Cancelo, Stones

    Smith-Rowe, KDB, Rashford, Bruno, Son

    Lacazette, Kane

    4.0, Kilman, Mitchell, 3.9

    Thoughts?

Not an FH question. Long term, would you rather pick Stones over Cancelo and use that 0.8 elsewhere or do you think Cancelo is worth that additional outlay?

      Stones.

    Which one sounds best?

    A) Dias Laca in 433
    B) Gundo/Saka Laca in 343
    C) Rashford Saka in 352
    D) Stones Rash in 442

    Core team is:

    Lloris
    Cancelo/Tierney/AWB
    KDB/Bruno/Son
    Kane/Wilson

Sorry if it's been mentioned somewhere, but is there a City presser today?

I'm hoping for some news on Sterling injury - hopefully it was just a small knock and he plays. My team is already several men down thanks to Villa game being off. Can't afford a Sterling no-show if I want to keep pace with FHers
