Using FFS data and tools to find the best De Bruyne replacement for Gameweek 20

Just when Fantasy Premier League managers thought they could breathe and relax after Double Gameweek 19, many of us now have injury problems to solve.

Ahead of Tuesday’s deadline, Kevin De Bruyne (£11.9m) has been ruled out for “four to six weeks” with a muscular injury and needs replacing.

When these sorts of developments occur, there is a fantastic opportunity for Fantasy managers. With everyone going in a different direction from a common player all at once, the potential for green arrows goes up – if you can make the right choice. And, because Gameweeks 20 to 23 take place in a span of 14 days, the FPL landscape is going to change very quickly.

Accordingly, I have gone over some De Bruyne replacements to help you make the right choice ahead of Gameweek 20. As this uses extensive data from the Fantasy Football Scout Premium Members Area, only those with a valid subscription can access it in full.

Yes, I would personally. Not a single shot in the dgw is beyond brutal. Not my style to cross fingers and pray on a set piece.

Yeah I don't feel like there's another choice this week, I'd love to punt on Cancelo or Sterling but Bruno's EO will be too high and the fear is getting me.

Plus City not exactly scoring loads of goals, Big Sam has said not conceding is his priority, and it's pretty obvious KDB will be a monumental miss. City assets a punt too far for me (and I have 3 of them!)

    Tuchel: the PSG experience

It has been announced that Thomas Tuchel is replacing Frank Lampard.

After taking a few moments to regret the failure of this true legend that remains Frank Lampard (the dream of Lampard becoming champion as a Chelsea coach was beautiful, no matter how it ended), we as FPL Froggies can share with FPL community our appreciation of Tuchel's work as recent manager of Paris Saint-Germain.

    - General statement and legacy:

Arrived from Dortmund in 2018, Thomas Tuchel has arguably the best achievements as a Paris manager, with 3 Ligue 1, multiple domestics cups and a Champion’s League Final, that was longtime waited by Qatari owners.
Despite this, he has been fired 3 months after this Final, and he is not really missed by Parisian fans.
How to explain this indifference, remembering that his arrival was very well received ?
Probably the main answer is a big inconsistency in his management, style of game, with big highs but deep lows.
Main feeling is that Tuchel was not a bad manager… but not exactly the type of coach that was presented by German journalists. Evolution and adaptation is positive but when you do it as extreme, fans (and probably owners) get puzzled.

    - Management:

Tuchel was presented as a very modern manager, with an accurate sports management, based on fitness, healthy foods and philosophy. Damn, that was appealing ! The official PSG website even shared the two weeks diet program that players needed to follow carefully. To give an idea on how things changed during the three seasons, at the end of his spell Tuchel was attending Neymar‘s barbecues several times in the last six months, and a lot of players (including Neymar and Marco Verrati) were far from their best physical conditions.
In his human management, Tuchel was hired to keep the whole group as committed and involved as possible (one of the big weakness of former coach Unai Emerei). Treat everybody the same way, no privileges… He tried to do it approximately for about 2 months but very quickly ended up giving full power to a group of players (Brazilian + Mbappe to make it quick). Nobody pretended that it was an easy job, especially for a first experience in a top club (no offense to Borussia) with worldclass players to manage. But the disappointment was big.

    - Style of play:
Tuchel’s game play is close to Klopp’s one (he replaced Jurgen Klopp in both Mayence and Dortmund): a mix of possession game and quick counter attack. Let’s say that compared to Klopp, the cursor is more on possession, but with more frequent shots than Guardiola’s teams do for instance.
He switched frequently between 433 and 422, so difficult to define a preference and he likes to adapt to the opposition.

    - Favorite players (and out of position strange choices)
that’s the point where all went wrong. Each time Tuchel insisted to buy a player and fighted against his management for that (in France the coach is not in charge of transfers, it’s the job of a Sports Director – in Paris Antero Henrique, then the amazing and much loved by fans Leonardo), it was a fail: Kehrer, Abou Diallo, Idrissa Gueye, Eric Choupo-Motting….
Also to be notified: a strange habit to pretend to make players play Out Of Position,. A lot of examples during three years, but the weirdest one was to put Marquinhos(CB) in midfield, and Danilo (a pure midfielder) in central defense. Doing this during three matches in a row, when both players were complaining in media, and everybody was seeing that is was obviously not working was the last innovative creation of Tuchel before being fired by Leonardo.

    - What we can expect for Chelsea assets.

He managed Dortmund and Paris so differently, that it is hard to anticipate what will be his approach now.
Probably he will be clever enough not to impose directly German players as Havertz and Werner, but he will do it shortly after (2-3 weeks ?) . We would bet on a defense Rudiger Silva (sorry Kurt Z.), and Giroud Werner as most used attackers. Come on Thomas, give us Giroud five straight games, we want that !

PS: To be noted: Tuchel really likes Rudiger. He has been trying to sign him for PSG until late December 2020 so Rudiger at 4.5 has clearly to be an option to monitor as we believe Tuchel will go for a T.Silva / Rudiger CB pair

Plan to ship out Kdb and Rashford over next two gw's or both this gw but cant decide on the sequence

    A: KDB >> Son....then Rash >> Gundog (-4) in gw21
    B: KDB >> Gundog...then Rash + Wilson >> Son (-4) in gw21
    C: KDB + Rash >> Son + Gundog (-4) and no hit in gw21

C makes more as if i am anways going to take a hit, i should do it earlier so has a longer time for it to pay off. However, the benefit of waiting and doing A means i can get more info and decide whether i want maddison or foden over gundogen in gw21

    Differential captain case for Bamford

Got lost in the tumbleweed with 1 response. However this might offer some use for those prepared to risk against potentially one of the biggest EOs in Bruno this GW- myself included

Not heard anyone mention Bamford- I feel like he's being overlooked as a differential captain option when others are fancying the likes of Sterling, Antonio or even Cancelo for differentials

He hasn't had the best form of late, but Newcastle are so bad defensively that this is the perfect fixture for him to bounce back. In the reverse fixture Leeds also won 5-2

Also with Saint Max and Fraser back in the team, I can see this being end-to-end as Bruce will surely feel like he needs to change their current form around somehow.

I agree. I'm flip flopping between him and Bruno.

Hard to back him with no form and Bruno is going to have c170%+ EO so you need to be super confident in your captain pick. Not a GW for experimenting I think.

Cant decide whether Sterling is worth the short term double up with Gundo, just purely given fixtures...

    A) Soucek -> Sterling (-4). Would prob mean either going without any Spurs for 3 weeks (or another 4/8 point hit to get Kane for Brighton).

    B) No hit this week, then Adams & Soucek -> Grealish & Kane (-4) next week.

50/50. Zaha's always capable of diving for a pen.
