FPL differentials the key figures as West Brom host Brighton

It is the Fantasy Premier League differentials on offer in the second match of Double Gameweek 26.

Despite playing just once over the next few days, Brighton are the more popular outfit in this match, Lewis Dunk (£4.9m) starting the match with 5.6% ownership.

Robert Sánchez (£4.5m) is another leading figure as the Seagulls travel to West Bromwich Albion although on 3.0% of Fantasy managers currently rely on the goalkeeper.

2.8% are still invested in Neal Maupay (£6.1m) who leads the line today, accompanied by an out-of-position Leandro Trossard (£5.7m).

It looks as if Graham Potter has gone with a back-four for the visit to the Hawthorns, with Dan Burn (£4.2m) and Joël Veltman (£4.3m) in the left and right-back positions either side of Dunk and Ben White (£4.4m).

Meanwhile, Matheus Pereira (£5.4m) is the most fashionable starting Baggies option today sat in 1.8% of teams.

Ahead of facing two fixtures, the midfielder has a goal and assist in his last two at home.

Mbaye Diagne (£6.0m) has been a much-discussed asset in the build-up to Double Gameweek 26 and starts up-front for the fourth-successive Premier League match.

He is inside the top-four among all players for minutes per expected goal involvement (xGI) over the last four matches but only 0.8% of Fantasy managers are invested in the forward.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles (£4.6m) is also on the radar even though just 0.6% of managers possess the Arsenal loanee.

He is deployed out of position once again today, operating on the right-hand flank of West Brom’s attacking midfield trio.

Double Gameweek 26 Line-ups

West Bromwich Albion XI (4-2-3-1): Johnstone; C Townsend, Bartley, O’Shea, Furlong; Yokuslu, Gallagher; M Phillips, M Pereira, Maitland-Niles; Diagne.

Brighton and Hove Albion XI (4-4-2): R Sánchez; Burn, Dunk, White, Veltman; Connolly, Mac Allister, Bissouma, Groß; Maupay, Trossard.

Double Gameweek 26 so far…

Another Double Gameweek, another attacking haul for Manchester City’s centre-backs.

João Cancelo (£6.1m) watched Saturday’s lunch-time kick-off in dismay as Pep Guardiola benched him for the first time since Gameweek 21.

And his absence from the team, which lasted the whole game, made goals for Ruben Dias (£6.1m) and John Stones (£5.2m) all the more painful for the Portuguese international’s 26.6% ownership.

Cancelo was named on Manchester City’s bench alongside Raheem Sterling (£11.6m) and Phil Foden (£6.1m), although the latter made it on for the second period.

Kevin De Bruyne (£11.8m) and Riyad Mahrez (£8.1m) were the providers for the Citizens’ two goals while Ilkay Gundogan (£6.2m) continued his run of matches without an attacking return to three before coming off in the 89th minute.

      So here's what happened

Ref blows the whistle to allow Brighton to take the freekick assuming Dunk will wait for wba keeper to set himself, Dunk hears the whistle and thinks free goal for me and shoots. Ref realising he's let Brighton take a free kick before wba keeper is even ready panics and blows the whistle a second time while the ball is in midair

VAR check was to see whether ball had crossed the line before second whistle was blown

      Madness!

Not so new. Are you old enough to remember the English referee in a World Cup who blew full time as Brazil were taking a corner? He blew up between the corner being taken and the ball sailing into the goal.

        it's a nonsense

The WBA should be ready to play to the whilst. What does Dunk have to wait for him to be ready.

Why is Johnstone not ready - working on his Phd thesis or making a cappucino?

But him blowing the whistle indicates start of play, why does he feel the need to blow the whistle to tell dunk to wait? Dunk is already waiting to hear the whistle to take the kick...he heard it and scored. It’s a good goal

My guess is refs are getting kaned left right and centre these days and he panicked thinking in a vital relegation match I've let a free goal go in basically by not waiting for Johnstone to set himself before blowing the whistle

I agree completely he knows he messed up but that’s not Brighton’s fault, they played to the whistle and scored a fair goal. Are the refs now just allowed to change rules on the go? What a shambles lol

Then why give the goal before going to VAR ?

English refs are too arrogant to admit they mess up on a weekly basis. About time they should bring in foreign refs if they want to retain any little sanctity remaining in the league.

Normally referees take a few steps back and do a bit of posturing to indicate to the keeper that they are ready to blow - not a rule I know, but otherwise the keeper has no idea.

I think Lee realised his whistle blow was too stealthy to allow this, hence giving an unfair advantage to the attacker. Imagine if every ref did that - keepers would no longer be able to organise their wall.

Whilst it's not a rule, I think he brought it back in the spirit of fair play.

The same scenario last week with Saints was frustrating but I kind of got it.

This time though it’s borderline cheating. If Brighton lose today and god forbid get relegated by a few points. I’d get the lawyers involved.

Chances of Lee Mason getting dropped ?

If a player did such a rookie mistake he would immediately be dropped to the bench. If a manager did an amateur mistake, he would be sacked immediately. So what's stopping the FA on punishing their employee? Is it because they match the incompetence of FA ?

If Brighton go down, it won't be because Lee Mason disallowed the Dunk FK 'goal' vs WBA. It will be because they miss penalties and big goalscoring chances (such as against Crystal Palace)

If the players and the manager hide behind a refereeing decision, then you have to question their resolve. The players and the manager have to take responsibility for the fact Brighton can't score goals.

Maybe then they’ll realise that Maupay and Connolly leading the attack simply isn’t good enough

if Brighton lose this game, it'll be Lee Mason's fault

If it finishes 1-0 you can’t blame Lee Mason. Brighton are just rubbish if they can’t score v WBA

Nonsense, they've had chances and a penalty. They wouldn't even score the freekick if mason hadn't messed up and blown the whistle early in the first place

Doesn't justify referees disallowing obvious goals which should stand. If Brighton can't score goals, then it makes it even worse.

But the obvious goal was because the ref made a mistake in the first place, 99.999% of the time refs don't blow the whistle while a keeper is setting himself

Doesn't matter if it's in the rules it's an obvious goal.

Refs hide behind the rules a lot of times to justify non-sensical decisions. They are equally liable to take the heat if they meesed up.

Common sense shouldn't go out the window, and we don't need to pretend it isn't the case that a ref blowing the whistle while a keeper isn't ready is a very very rare occurrence, in fact I can't think of a single other example this season

He's made mistake after mistake but I don't feel that sorry for Brighton, they nearly profited a free goal just because Lee mason is a clueless idiot

But we see common sense go out of the window a lot of times (armpit hair offside, RC for unintentionallly clipping last man's heel from behind etc), and all these stupid decisions justified by saying "it's in the rules" and refs facee are saved.

So what's not to believe Dunk's goal was within the rules however non-sensical it might seem ?

I don't care about Brighton but tomorrow it could be against my team and I'd be fuming then.

So because other decisions lack common sense this one should too?

Also technically it's within the rules that he can blow the second whistle

Also I think you're not being truthful here, if my team conceded a goal like that my first thought would be why the hell did the ref blow the whistle when the keeper was setting the wall? As every other team is allowed to do

It's about taking ownership. English refs screw teams over every week just because of their incompetence and walk away freely saying "it's in the rules".

And to make matters any worse, they're not even consistent at doing that based on what we saw today. Ref messed up, didn't want to take ownership so panicked and made random decisions. Let's see how he gets away with this one.

Partially true for sure. They’ve tried to bring Welbeck in, at the end of the day they’re working to a very limited budget.

A team that creates so much should probably be in the top half of the league. But then they have Maupay up front!
