How the top 10k FPL managers set their teams up for Blank Gameweek 36

Mohamed Salah (£12.7m) returns to the summit of influence among the top 10,000 Fantasy Premier League managers for Blank Gameweek 36.

Two goals and one assist in his last three matches and a Sunday afternoon trip to West Bromwich Albion were enough to help him become this weekend’s most popular captain at that level.

The armband debate proved to be rather one-sided in the end as 77.3% of the top 10k handed it to Salah for Blank Gameweek 36.

As you can see from the chart above, that made for a huge majority against the second-placed Harry Kane (£11.8m); 63.4 percentage points.

Outside of those two premium assets, there was mostly pocket-change handed out to the other captain options.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin‘s (£7.6m) Sunday-evening meeting with basement boys Sheffield United was enough for 2.8% of the top 10k to take a calculated risk with their captain’s armband.

Meanwhile, Salah and Kane’s respective colleagues Son Heung-min (1.5%) and Trent Alexander-Arnold (0.8%) completed the top five armbandees.

Salah is some way clear in the effective ownership department as well, offering a figure of 170.7% in the top 10k.

Kane sits in second place with 96.5% effective ownership while Alexander-Arnold (76.9%), Jesse Lingard (74.2%) and Son (67.2%) complete the top five.

Chip season is very much in its closing stages as we approach the end of the 2020/21 campaign.

The Free Hit was the most deployed for Blank Gameweek 36 but attracted just 2.4% interest among the top 10k.

Just under 2.0% of them went for a Wildcard while 0.1% used the Triple Captain and just 200 managers at this level Bench Boosted.

With two Gameweeks left of the season, 94.9% of the top 10k have exhausted their chip supply.

Salah is now the most-owned asset in the top 10k, sat in 93.4% squads at that level after an increase of roughly 10 percentage points between the two most-recent deadlines.

Bruno Fernandes‘ (£11.5m) backing has dropped off considerably. His 88.8% top-10k ownership for Triple Gameweek 35 was perhaps influenced by Free Hit chips and he comes into the latest round owned by just 56.6% in the upper echelons.

Kelechi Iheanacho (£6.3m) has also seen his ownership drop off a cliff. He was the top 10k’s favourite player for Triple Gameweek 35 (95.1%) but is no longer among the top three most popular forwards.

Calvert-Lewin (51.2%) and Patrick Bamford (39.3%) have replaced the Leicester man and Ollie Watkins (£6.5m) in that regard.

Feeling a bit exposed with Dallas as my only Leeds but hopefully Burnley having two GKs will ease the damage.

    My history with Dallas:

    Man City (17) benched him
    Liverpool (1) played him
    United (6) benched
    Brighton (1) played
    Spurs (9) benched
    Burnley (?) played

32 benched points from one player in 5 weeks.

Lesson: Never bench a midfielder who has an applicability of a defender's points.

When I look at my team for the weeks I benched him it made sense. He's playing every week for me until the end of the season now though!

I know what you are saying. If you shift him to the mids or the strikers table he will be the 5th highest point scorer in both of them. My biggest regret has been transferring him out mid-season. And I was one of the earliest ones to get him.

Same for me in the last six but I did captain him in the glorious gameweek 25 for which I’ll always be grateful

I think I did exactly the same as you, Bewater.

I think next season, if I get him I’m just going to play him every week regard of the fixture.

In fact, next season I’m probably going to get Martinez, Dallas and 2 other attacking defenders and just plug and play every week.

It's so frustrating when a player you actually own hurts your rank that much. I've had Emi from week 1 but sold him on WC this week. It's strange how you develop an attachment to these players.

I reckon that’s more to do with Dyche’s approach against City. Pretty sure he ends up losing heavily whoever is in goal.

Bit of a niche question here, and can't seem to locate the answer anywhere.

So I captained Mahrez and he didn't play (I know - I put too much faith in Pep). Luckily Salah is my vice, but my mates reckon that since I have no subs coming on to replace Mahrez (all United players) then the captaincy won't be handed over, since the captain can't be in the final 11 and hand still it over.

Tough one right? Does anyone know what will happen?

Scout has two Man City players in its starting 11. Do people never learn ! There is nothing clever in playing Pep (Russian) roulette 2 players with a 50% chance of playing in a blank game week when if you have 10 or 11 players, you are doing well.

    1. Ajax Hamsterdam
      • 9 Years

The point I was trying to make is ownership depends on circumstances. My hope was Mahrez and Dias will play 2 from 3. 1 from 3 is ok provided cover on the bench is reliable.

    3. Mweene
      • 10 Years

Exactly - this was not the week to take a punt on players who aren't nailed. More understandable on a FH where you can have a decent bench though.

It's basically a FH team anyway. People who watch the video content can see that most of the experts weren't considering Man City this week, but a beginner could easily be fooled into thinking otherwise.
