Eliteserien 2021 Scout Picks – Runde 3

GOALKEEPER

Kristoffer Klaesson (VIF – 5.5mNOK, 26.4%) vs. Kristiansund (H)

  • Kristiansund (H) = I said before the start of the season Kristiansund will struggle for goals and after 2 games only 7 of their 26 shots have been on target
  • Played 1 key pass, got an assist and made 3 saves from 4 on target shots vs. Brann
  • His expected goals conceded (xGC) was 0.82 in his last match but he kept a clean sheet anyway
  • Only Andreas Linde (6.5mNOK) and David Mitov Nilsson conceded fewer goals from shots inside the area in 2020 (both 26) than Klaesson (28)

DEFENDERS

Erlend Dahl Reitan (RBK – 6.0mNOK, 17.3%) vs. Bodø/Glimt (A) & Brann (H)

  • Bodø/Glimt (A) = The Champions have faced 29 shots in their opening two games, of which 20 have taken place in the box and in their last match their xG was only 0.89
  • Brann (H) = xG vs. Viking – 0.64 & xG vs. Vålerenga – 0.82. They’ve scored just once and like Glimt have conceded a silly number of shots inside their area (22)
  • Dahl Reitan got his assist in the 5-0 demolition of Viking as well as keeping a clean sheet while looking confident on the ball
  • He’s registered key passes in both games this season and is an integral part of what could prove to be the best defence in the league this year

Stian Rode Gregersen (MOL – 6.0mNOK, 16.2%) vs. Brann (H)

  • Not only are Brann having a tough time of it so far, Molde are looking a good attacking team who should record an easy win on Sunday
  • At 1.91m, Gregersen is a good 2 inches taller than Brann centre-back Vegard Forren (5.0mNOK) and almost 3 inches taller than Ole Martin Kolskogen (5.0mNOK) – he could cause this defence real issues from set pieces
  • Despite conceding 3 goals in their last outing against Tromsø, I’m confident Molde will record their second clean sheet of the season against a Brann side which currently looks at home at the bottom of the table
  • Of all defenders to play at least 8 games (8x90mins) last season, only John Kitolano (6.0mNOK) could match Gregersen’s return of 6.2 points per 90 minutes
  • In the same fixture last season Molde actually lost 2-1, but they will line up with their preferred defence on Sunday evening while Brann are without Daniel Alexander Pedersen (5.0mNOK), Fredrik Haugen and Gilbert Koomson and look far more beatable for it

Vetle Winger Dragsnes (LSK – 5.0mNOK, 8.8%) vs. Stromsgødset (A)

  • Stromsgødset (A) = Strong likelihood they are playing their football in the OBOS-Ligaen next year – probably Lillestrøm’s easiest away fixture they’ll have all year
  • Dragsnes got 5 direct goal involvements (DGI) last season (2G, 3A) for Mjøndalen who themselves scored just 26 times – along with Markus Nakkim (5.0mNOK) – he was their best player and represents a huge threat from the left-back position
  • 6th highest point-scoring defender and one of only 8 to score over 100pts in 2020
  • Is still priced at 5.0mNOK while other defenders who scored fewer points are less affordable. His deviation from the average points scored for a defender in 2020 was 45.43, or a 77.57% increase – the fact he has joined a newly promoted team is probably the only reason he isn’t priced at 5.5mNOK or higher
  • Last term, only 6 other defenders beat him for Fantasy Points, FP/Million, FP/90min and overall value combined

MIDFIELDERS

Amor Layouni (VIF – 10.4mNOK, 4.7%) vs. Kristiansund (H)

  • It’s really not happening for the ex-Bodø/Glimt man, but I’m backing him to show us all what he’s capable of in this match mainly because I really do not think any of Bent Sørmo (5.0mNOK), Erlend Sivertsen (4.5mNOK) or Snorre Strand Nilsen (5.0mNOK) will be able to cope with him
  • 0 attacking returns in opening 2 gameweeks means he’s in less than 5% of teams, but he offers real potential and differential value this Runde
  • 18 DGI last time he played in the Eliteserien in 21 games for Glimt
  • His only teammate to attempt more crosses is Christian Dahle Borchgrevink (6.0mNOK) with 14 to his 7, but Layouni has actually completed more (2-1)

Kristoffer Zachariassen (K) (RBK – 10.1mNOK, 25.4%) vs. Bodø/Glimt (A) & Brann (H)

  • 2 goals in 2 games and 17pts = 2nd place behind Aron Dønnum (10.1mNOK) in the Fantasy Points leader board and with a DGW he’s surely odds on to be number 1 by the end of the runde
  • 3 of his 4 shots (75%) have been on target and he’s scored 2 goals – the only other player to match him is Ola Brynhildsen (7.6mNOK) (every other player with 3 shots on target has a worse goal conversion and taken more shots)
  • Between 2017 and 2019 he produced 28 DGIs at a rate of 1 every 2.93 games. Last season he returned 16 DGI in just 28 games = 1 DGI every 1.76 games. He’s clearly working on his productivity and despite the away fixture to Glimt, this DGW offers a good chance to add to those numbers
  • Like Dønnum last week, he will more than likely be the standout captaincy choice for this runde – it seems a bit foolhardy to back another horse when this one looks raring to go and is being given two bites at the cherry

Zlatko Tripic (VIK – 9.5mNOK, 2.6%) vs. Tromsø (H)

  • Tromsø (H) = Tromsø were brilliant against Molde for their 3-3 draw, and perhaps unlucky (but certainly wasteful) to lose 2-0 to Glimt but even still this is a fixture Viking will be favourites for and should win
  • After losing 5-0 to Rosenborg on Thursday, Bjarte Lunde Aarsheim and Morten Jensen’s men will be expected to silence any critics and take this game by the scruff of the neck from the start – I’m expecting goals
  • With Samúel Kári Friðjónsson (6.5mNOK) a doubt, Tripic has a good chance of starting despite budget midfielder Harald Nilsen Tangen (4.5mNOK) replacing the Icelandic attacker ahead of him vs. Rosenborg
  • Kevin Kabran (8.5mNOK) should retain his place in the starting line-up but may be moved into a more central position to accommodate Tripic on the left
  • Even if Tripic does not start and is brought on for another 25-30 minute cameo, if he can exploit the space behind Tromsø’s five-man midfield, his fresh legs could end up wreaking havoc

Eric Kitolano (TIL – 7.5mNOK, 2.2%) vs. Viking (A)

  • Viking (A) = A game in which Tromsø would surely be expected to score, despite not being favourites
  • Kitolano was in inspired form against Molde, bringing down Jacob Karlstrøm’s (4.5mNOK) long ball up the pitch beautifully before putting the ball into the back of the net for Tromsø’s equaliser
  • Scored 11 goals and got 6 assists in 28 games last season and can play up front or in the centre of midfield – he’s Tromsø’s most creative and attacking player so expect plenty of goal involvement from him
  • 3 shots, 2 on target 1 goal and 1 big chance missed in two games (against Bodø/Glimt and Molde)
  • Has 1 assist from 2 key passes and 1 big chance created and faces a far less-disciplined team and weaker defence this runde

Oliver Valaker Edvardsen (STB – 7.0mNOK, 8.3%) vs. Odd (H)

  • 2020 Stats: 125pts, 6G, 6A, 8CS, 13 BFP – pretty ridiculous for a midfielder at a midtable club like Stabæk while only costing 6.5mNOK at the time
  • Only 4 teams conceded more goals than Odd in 2020 and while Stabæk aren’t exactly known for scoring loads of goals, I think Edvardsen will looking at this game as one in which he should be scoring
  • There wasn’t much daylight between these teams last season (4pts) but Stabæk lost just 4 times at home and conceded 17 only goals
  • His team’s most creative and attacking player and actually played a mere 7 fewer accurate final 1/3 passes than Viking’s Veton Berisha (10.5mNOK) last campaign
  • Odd may have won this fixture last season (1-0) but they are without the evergreen Espen Ruud (7.0mNOK) due to injury and a plethora of talented players have all moved on, leaving them a much easier proposition than they were almost a year ago

FORWARDS

Ohikhuaeme Omoijuanfo (V) (MOL – 11.5mNOK, 10.2%) vs. Brann (H)

  • He might have missed a penalty against Kristiansund on the opening day of the season (and scored a huge 0pts before being taken off after 68 minutes) but he made up for that abysmal performance by scoring a brace in his last game away to Tromsø
  • He also created 2 chances from just 8 accurate passes and 18 touches
  • Scored with both of his shots
  • Has 52 goals over the last 4 seasons (scoring 12 and setting up 4 in just over 17x90mins in 2020)
  • 22/25 shots conceded by Brann in their opening two games have been inside the box – if they allow Molde the same amount of access, expect Ohi to take advantage

Ibrahima Koné (S08 – 7.5mNOK, 1.8%) vs. Haugesund (H)

  • Haugesund (H) = Not a game I expect Sarpsborg to win 3 or 4 nil, but I see goals in this one and the home team have a far more attractive team at their expense than Haugesund do
  • Kone made the switch from Haugesund to Sarpsborg at the end of last season and with ex-Bodo/Glimt forward Kristian Fardal Opseth (8.5mNOK) and Mostafa Abdellaoue (7.0mNOK) both injured, he’ll be leading the line this weekend
  • At just 21 years old he’s yet to find his goalscoring feet but is part of the Mail U23 setup is widely viewed as having a lot of potential
  • With creative players such as Ole Jørgen Halvorsen (6.5mNOK), Jonathan Lindseth (6.5mNOK) and the wonderful Anton Salétros (6.5mNOK) (plus others) providing him service, he has a good chance of opening his account for his new club on his debut

Petter Strand (7.0mNOK) leads the way for key passes this season with 7 so if I were to recommend a Brann player it would more than likely be him - but I struggle to see two worse games for them than Molde AND Rosenborg away.

Vebjorn Hoff (5.5mNOK) is another player I really like - he could be an astute budget option for this DGW

Stefano Vecchia (9.5mNOK) almost got the nod ahead of Zachariassen as he is on free kicks and corners, but I think Zachariassen will benefit from the creative players and service around him more than anyone else in the team which makes him more likely to get more attacking returns in these two games. Either way, they are both great options for this runde.

If Alioune Ndour (7.0mNOK) gets his debut away to Sarpsborg 08 then I'd be tempted to bring him in but it could be a case of too much expectation too soon. I'm actually surprised he's in as many teams as he is - 3.5% - but he's a talented player and could be Fantasy Gold this season - if he's in the starting XI I know which game I'll be watching tomorrow afternoon.

Andre Sodlund (5.5mNOK) is the only Sandefjord asset that interests me this week but I think Sandefjord will struggle for creativity at the best of times and even though it is a home fixture, an opening game against Mjondalen could potentially be a banana skin for the team I think will finish bottom of the league this season.

There are plenty of other decent options to choose from this week - I hope this article has potentially brought to light some additional options for you to ponder.

    Cheers!

And obviously Aron Donnum is highly-recommended but if I keep putting him in EVERY week it'll be rather boring, won't it?

Hi RH thanks for this my planned moves were Sorli to Zach and Gregersen to Reitan

I've double Molde defence which i want to reduce to one by bringing in Reitan for either Gregersen or Risa.

I was going to keep Risa, is there much to choose between them, thought Risa had more attacking threat ?

Risa will offer you more attacking potential but Gregersen will crop up every now and then with a goal. I think them both being 6m is fair as Risa was inconsistent last season and very frustrating to own.

Gregersen's biggest issue is his fitness - if he can avoid getting injured there's little reason to suggest he loses his place whereas Haugen will potentially rotate with Risa later in the season. For now both should be first team regulars.

If I had double Molde defence I'd look to keep it for this week as both Gregersen and Risa could get something attacking-wise from Brann (H) as well as high CS potential.

If you can bring in EDR without losing one of Gregersen or Risa I'd be in favour of that. If not and you're happy to get rid of a Molde defender I'd advise sticking with the one you think offers you more all round and that you'll be comfortable having in future rounds. It sounds like that would be Risa so I'd trust your gut and go with that. Long term I'd want Risa until the potential rotation comes in and I'd reassess.

Great article RH! First DGW of the season, exciting stuff. With Islamovic and Fridjónsson flagged I’ve moved to Zachariassen and Ebiye. Zachariassen with the armband, always feels good to bring in a player and captain them in the same week. Hoping that Dahl Reitan can continue to deliver for the double.

    Good luck everyone!

2FT: Bjørnbak & Saltnes to Reitan & Zacha. Having scored in both of the opening 2 GWs, Zachariassen had to be the man to come in, occupying some excellent positions in and around the box throughout both games. Only Islamovic has appeared more central & advanced when on the pitch, but despite some great pre-season form, he has not showed too many signs of improvement so far this season. Injury concerns added to the equation, Islamovic is a no-go for me. Vecchia has also looked quality so far this season, but seems to be opting for a more deep & creative role, often sitting wide on the left and looking to spark an attack rather than being the man to score. Despite Vecchia's set-piece and assist potential, Zacha takes it for me., even for 0.5m more. I actually preferred the look of Andersson to Reitan vs. Viking, but Reitan comes in due to little competition at RB. Henriksen would also be high on the list if it wasn't for injury doubts.

Re. Scout Picks: love Dragsnes & Edvardsen. Just seeing Ohi in there was scary enough in itself - think he could be on for a huge GW but not worth shuffling the whole team around to fit him in. And, go on, be boring and stick Dønnum in there. How can you resist?

    GW3: Karlstrøm, (Trige);
    Borchgrevink, Reitan, Risa, Adekugbe, Bjørkan;
    Dønnum (V), Zachariassen (K), Hestad, Sørli, (Hopmark);
    Berisha, (Hafstad, Sivertsen).

Another okay GW2 puts me at 5.4k OR, a fairly good score overshadowed by a poor captain selection. Especially gutting having owned Dønnum since around the middle of last season - should have more faith in my man to come through, but again he takes the vice again in GW3 with a Zacha DGW the priority. That said, if I didn't own Zacha, I'd probably (K) Dønnum vs. KBK over Vecchia or another RBK asset. Berisha an option too. Good luck all!

Andersson is Reitan's competition at RB. Before Augustinsson got injured, Reitan was maybe 60-70% certain to be the starter. Andersson being better offensively, but Reitan fitting more into the role of letting Ceïde do whatever he wants on the right. The right back situation is really not much different from last season. Hedenstad and Andersson are both better offensively than Reitan, but also have to cover LB when there's an injury on that side. Once Augustinsson is back from injury, likely from GW4, he will start every match if his fitness allows it. At that point we might see Reitan dropped at times.

Yeah this was my main concern for the start of the season - where exactly all these defenders fit in.

I think Andersson is a very good player who should be the full-back who probably misses fewest games. EDR is good for the time being and for me it was a toss up between the two for the DGW. I've gone with Reitan mainly because I don't feel the boat needs rocking just yet.

At times, perhaps. But as you rightly said, Augustinsson will be nailed on return, thus making Reitan more likely to start than Andersson at least for the time being (60-70% as you said). The explanation you have given sounds like you are disagreeing, but overall I think we are making the same points & agree that: Reitan is more nailed than Andersson, haha.

        Hansen
        Reitan/Andersson, Eyjolfsson, Henriksen, Augustinsson
        Hoff, Skjelbred, Vecchia, Zachariassen, Ceide
        Dino

Is that the XI we should expect when everyone is fully fit?

I had it in my head that Andersson was ahead of Reitan in the pecking order but I'd rather know I'm wrong than convince myself otherwise!

        1. Ramboros

That's pretty much it. The pre-season XI was basically:

          Hansen
          Reitan (Andersson), Eyjolfsson, Hovland, Augustinsson
          Zach, Henriksen, Hoff (Holse)
          Ceïde - Dino - Vecchia

With very little deviation. Then there's the talk about Henriksen moving down to CB when Skjelbred returns. I think Hareide will try some more offensive variations with Holse in midfield once the Molde match is done. The first 4 games of the season were always going to be tough.

Henriksen being injured for 3-4 weeks changes things for the coming GW. I don't think Skjelbred will be risked on artificial turf, meaning Zach - Hoff - Holse will likely start against Glimt. I also doubt Skjelbred will be risked just days ahead of playing Molde, which likely means the same midfield get another chance against Brann.

Let's be clear: Rosenborg's midfield is a mine field. We have no idea where or how much Tettey will play. My understanding is that he's available from GW7, just like Henriksen. I would treat every GW until then as an audition for how Rosenborg will ultimately set up.

            Cheers for the info.

I agree in that it's a bit of a minefield going forward. Hareide won't be wanting to risk anything over the next 3 games but will ultimately have a plan in mind.

I think when everyone's fit the best defender to have would probably be Augustinsson but by the looks of it we have a few weeks if not longer until we have to worry about that.

I do think Zach is the best offensive asset to own as Holse can pretty much play anywhere as he showed in pre-season and Ceide is far from the finished article.

It's a team with a lot of depth at the moment but Zach probably stays in my team for the long haul.

If I was braver I'd have gone with Vecchia and Andersson over Zach and Reitan but I've done what everyone else will have done as I'm very happy with the rest of my team to make up the points.

      Karlstrom
      Reitan, Borchgrevink, Bjorkan, Risa
Bell, Zachariassen (k), Donnum (v), Aursnes
      Botheim, Berisha
      -4
      2.5itb

Have a good idea how I'm attacking the next few GWs so not too fussed about the hit. Would have Vevatne instead of Reitan so I can see that points difference being very close but Reitan's ceiling is much higher. Overall it's a very low-risk hit - I certainly wouldn't do it in a single GW... I'm learning from last season!

I think Glimt are going to lose tomorrow and I can't wait to see how Reitan approaches this game.

Hits are a slippery slope, my friend 😉 Think you've learned that lesson the hard way though! Agree the RBK will win that fixture & that your hit could pay off - its pretty 50/50 so, given that you back it, it's gotta be done.

We're ending up very similar despite differing reason/strategy: Adekugbe, Sorli & Hestad vs. Bell, Aursnes & Botheim this GW. Too close to call. Good luck!

I thought you were going to adopt 451 or 541 this season based on your Allsvenskan team!

It's a really bold strategy and I like the positivity but that's just too full on for me!

I'm hoping that the Viking Tromsø and Molde Brann fixtures give us some good goal action - I think they really ought to which is why I'm really happy keeping Bell and Aursnes.

I have a plan to downgrade my defence over the coming weeks and know exactly what my next transfer will be as long as no injuries or other setbacks are inflicted upon my team.

I suppose this year is more a case of trusting the stats to find the players who are going to do well before they become template but if it was that easy we'd all be rich and we'd all win!

I would like to think so, yes!

    Interesting stuff once again!

I decided to pull the trigger on the wildcard! I love a good start and this seemed like a good time to go for it with the rest of the teams coming into play, and also the RBK-BRA match. Furthermore, the uncertainty with Islamovic is frustrating and messes up any plans for this runde.

    Karlstrom
Gregersen - Dahl Reitan - Borchgrevink
    Za(C)hariassen - Donnum - (V)ecchia - Edvardsen - Aursnes
    Berisha - Ebiye

Stople, Bjorkan, Fosnaess Hanssen, O. Sivertsen

I don't know... Let's see if I turn this team upside down before the deadline.

Will sleep on it but the obvious move with 2FT seems Solbakken and Islamovic → Zachariassen and Botheim. The latter two still slighly cheaper and just spend more time nearer the goal. Solbakken went clean through a couple of times against TIL but looked very wide against KBK.

Not enamoured with RBK defence even in a DGW. Brann look awful again (would've got very short odds on them being booed off in their first home game of the season) but Bamba's guaranteed to fashion a chance for himself.

    1. ReindeerHotdog
      • 3 Years

True, can't disagree too much with that but I'd say Rosenborg away is probably Brann's toughest game for creating chances and scoring and both full backs have looked good going forward.

Glimt will be attacking and they've looked vulnerable at the back. I just think in a DGW it's a relatively good time to have one of their fullbacks especially as I 1) don't want any Brann and 2) can't afford any other RBK players other than Hoff or maybe Ceide 3) EDR is easy enough to accommodate coming and going out.

I have Botheim too so ideally no ciean sheet in that game but Reitan grabs another assist - stats are showing him getting involved in attacks so I'm happy to have him.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts, did Sørli/Islamovic to Zachariassen and Botheim, maby A bit sideways, but want RBK player who will start in dgw and c.

Would you play Vevatne or Moses this week?

If in doubt, always go with the attacker.

I'm not a Viking fan so I can't say for certain, but Pattynama is eligible to play for them and has been brought in to be their primary left back, so if he starts it'll mean Vevatne pushes back into a CB position.

Vevatne was more of a one week punt for me at the start of the season as even though I could see Brann scoring, he offered good attacking threat and hey maybe you get lucky with a CS.

I think Tromso score this week and I think Vevatne could potentially (don't quote me on this as I don't know where he will start) offer less attacking threat. The game is one of the early kick offs though so you will be able to see who is playing.

I'd recommend Ebiye for this week if both start.

Picking Islamovic from the start with GW3 in mind has really backfired, and I'm thinking about anything from a -8 to a -12 to fix my team right now. Possible transfers are:

    A) Hopmark + Islamovic > Zachariassen / Ebiye (-4)
    B) Hopmark + Islamovic + Jonassen > Zachariassen / Ebiye / Dahl Reitan (-8)
    C) Hopmark + Islamovic + Saltnes > Zachariassen / Ebiye / Vecchia (-8)
    D) Islamovic + Saltnes + Aursnes > Molins / Zachariassen / Vecchia (-8)

    Which transfers should I prioritise?

    Karlstrøm
    Bjørnbak - Bjørkan - Borchgrevink - Gregersen
    Jørgensen - Aursnes - Saltnes - Dønnum
    Berisha - Islamovic
    (Thomas - Hopmark - O. Sivertsen - Jonassen)

It only leaves me with one player for the double though, which feels a bit short considering most will probably have two.

I feel like B/C/D are all just hits for the sake of taking hits. If you are confident in Rosenborg, then fair enough. The double will probably cover the extra hit. Long term you will want Saltnes/Sørli/Solbakken in the team for the doubles in GW7 and GW9. Rosenborg also have Molde next week, so you have to consider the pay off over the next two GWs. I think setting up a 5 man defence of 5.5-6.0 defenders is too unbalanced at this stage of the season.

      A) is a very sensible move.

I do agree with this but at the same time I think it wouldn't be too unreasonable to be using your WC on either GW7 or 9.

It's always a balance between trying to take advantage of the DGWs but at the same time not ruining your team for the other games to come.

The thinking behind the -8's are primarily to benefit from the DGW.
        – For B, my plan is to downgrade one of the Molde defs the following GWs, and target a player from one of the teams that blanked early on.
        – For C/D, I plan to bring Saltnes back again in time for the double, as well as Botheim in for Berisha.

A is the easier route of course, but this puts me at a real disadvantage to many teams, which already has one or two playing RBK options in place.

Can you not get one RBK mid and one def with a -4?

-8 feels quite high to me.

I'm not sure about Molins as I don't know how long Dino is out for. If there's a chance he's back for the Brann game it feels like a bad decision to me.

I feel your pain though - I had to settle for a -4 to get EDR and Zach in for this week.

I *can get a RBK mid and defender, though it means keeping Islamovic, who we don't know will feature much this GW at all. The only solution would be to do Saltnes or Dønnum to Zachariassen and one of the Molde defs (with a good fixture against Brann) to EDR.

        1. ReindeerHotdog

Oh in that case I would just stick with prioritising bringing either Zachariassen or Vecchia in.

The downside feels too big to me. I wouldn't want to be losing any Molde players this week and getting rid of Donnum feels like a bad move.

Saltnes out I could understand - I currently just have Bjorkan and Botheim - but you'd be wanting him for the Brann game the following week.

You could go seriously left-field with it and maybe go out on a limb to get Bamba (as he'll offer 3 games in 2 weeks) and Zach/Vecchia or just go with A as Ramboros says.

If it's simply damage limitation then do not approach this as trying to be anything more than a plaster over a small cut - you don't want to overcomplicate the situation and make it worse than it already is so you have bigger problems down the line.

Learn from my mistakes - last season I took too many hits and overcomplicated captaincy. Avoid that at all costs. If you lose out on 10pts in this round then that's fine - you'll make them back later.

Indeed, dropping Dønnum and Saltnes now feels very risky. I did briefly consider Bamba as a left field pick, but Brann are just so terrible. Also, at 9.0 he's a bit expensive too – though I could just about squeeze Zach in for Aursnes with the funds from selling Islamovic for him.

This gameweek will be damage limitation, no doubt. Those that avoided Islamovic and instead covered Rosenborg with Zachariassen, Vecchia, EDL or one of the defenders, have got a easy way into this gameweek and beyond, while those of us that brought in Islamovic early with the double in mind, have been badly punished. Hopefully it is possible to make up those points along the way, but this season is off to a rocky start, that's for sure!

So you've been punished for planning ahead. Would you not rather that be the case?

You came into the game with an idea for the first big hurdle but when things go wrong there needs to be a back up plan.

One eye on this DGW another on GW4 wouldn't be a bad way of looking at things.

I'd love to bring Kitolano in for this week but not at the expense of Aursnes Vs Brann.

Very true. Planning ahead was always the preferred option, but the frustrating thing with the Islamovic situation is that he could have been a very easy transfer in for GW3 rather than an option through the trickier first two fixtures. I'll be glad when GW3 is over to be honest, to see other teams in action and to plan ahead for GW4 and beyond!

Am in the same boat. Picked Islamovic over Botheim with DGW3 in mind. Taking hits now, just to end up with the same team as everyone else, just makes me feel uneasy.

Anyone have any news on Islamovic? RBK website reports on Henriksen (ligament injury but not out for too long, although photo on crutches doesn't exactly make him a transfer target). But nothing on Islamovic.

Have rolled 2FTs but still looking at a -4 or -8 and having Hoff in my team.

Indeed, picking the team most people will have going into this gameweek feels wrong. I'm likely to be without Botheim for another GW at least, which makes me a bit nervous too.

Haven't heard or read anything about Islamovic, but Henriksen looks to be out for four weeks.

    Recent Transfer Update:

    Bodo/Glimt
    IN:

Tomas Rataj (18, CF) from Opava
Centre forward from Czech Republic with brief experience in the Fortuna Liga (first division of Czech Rep. football)
In 27 games for SFC Opava has scored 3 goals in 27 games
On loan until December 31st 2021

Lasse Nordas (19, CF) from Strommen
U18 Norway forward who played in 26 games for Strommen last season in the OBOS ligaen, scoring 9 times and getting 2 assists.
Was on the bench vs. Kristiansund last Runde
Expect him to start ahead of Rataj if Botheim and Pernambuco both aren’t available
1.94m tall so is a big, big target to aim at

    Brann
    IN:

Vieux Yakhya Sane (31, CB) Free Agent (previously at KV Oostende)
Centre back from Senegal with experience playing the Eliteserien and the OBOS – 55 and 53 appearances respectively
Is well-travelled having been at Tromso, Bodo/Glimt, Brest, Bursapor, Auxerre and most recently KV Oostende
Adds even more experience to Brann’s defence – something I’m pretty sure they already have enough of.
Not too sure where he ranks in the pecking order but will add cover if Forren or Kristiansen can’t play, as well giving an alternative to Kolskogen if needed

Lars Cristian Krogh Gerson (31, LB/CB) from Racing Santander
Born in Luxembourg but had dual nationality with Norway. Primary position seems to be CB but can also cover at left back. Not too sure if he will eventually take Kristiansen’s place or not. Is a bit younger but Kristiansen seems competent enough.
Previously played for Kongsvinger, Norrkoping, Sundsvall and Racing (Norway, Sweden and Spain).

    Mjondalen
    IN:

Sebastian Soraas Sebulonsen (21, RB) from Viking
Played in 20 games for Viking in the Eliteserien last season but only racked up 639 minutes. Played 3 times as RB and once as LB.
Not sure if Mjondalen will use him at left back since the departure of Dragsnes or if he’ll be pushed further up into midfield and used in a wider position.
Struggled to get much info on team line ups and positions for Mjondalen over the pre-season so can’t advise too much here – if anyone knows more, please do chip in.
Seems over-priced and reverse OOP for me, unless Mjondalen do actually utilise him in midfield

Sivert Overby (21, CB) from Fana
I know next to nothing about him other than he’s Norwegian, 21 and used to play for Honefoss before Fana IL.

    Rosenborg
    IN:

Alexander Tettey (35, CM) from Norwich
It all began at Rosenborg for Tettey, so it’s going to end there for him, too. He looks set to be integrated into a coaching/development role at the club so I’m convinced this move is nothing more than honourary. He may get a bit of game time but as a lot of the pitches are artificial turf, he will more than likely not play in those matches.
Has good pedigree in playing for Stade Rennais and Norwich previously, but he offers pretty much zero Fantasy appeal.

    Sandefjord
    IN:

Alexander Ruud Tveter (30, CF) Free Transfer (previously at S08)
If you’ve been playing ESF for a few years you should know who he is. Previously at Sarpsborg but played just 358 minutes last season and 276 minutes the season before. In my opinion he’s more suited to the OBOS Ligaen (33 goals & 13 assists in 103 appearances compared to 5 goals and 2 assists in 60 appearances in the Eliteserien) and I’m not too sure what he offers Sandefjord.
It feels like a desperate signing.

    Sarpsborg 08
    IN:

Felix Michel (26, CB/DM) from AIK
1.93m Lebanese international joins on a loan deal from Swedish outfit AIK. This really isn’t a bad signing at all as he adds even more cover in defence as well as being an option in midfield. Sadly I don’t think this translates to give much Fantasy appeal – he’s got just 10 goals from 128 games (half of those were in U19 Allsvenskan Norra) and only 2 assists.
If he gets game time – which I’m sure he will if only in sporadic doses – he will only make Sarpsborg that much more solid at the back.

    Stabaek
    IN:

Oleksiy Khoblenko (27, CF) from Dnipro
OK so this is the one we’re all interested in – have Stabaek landed themselves an ACTUAL forward capable of scoring?
Well, maybe. In the 19/20 season he scored 5 goals in 13 games and before he joined Stabaek this year he bagged himself 4 in 18 appearances along with 1 assist. Bear in mind this is in the Ukranian Premier Liga and in some of those games he played for literally a few minutes.
He’s got 51 goals and 16 assists throughout his career, over the spread of 244 games. That’s nothing to shout about but he’ll be seeing this loan move as a way to get his career back on track so I’m confident he’ll be thirsty for goals.
He’ll surely be battling out for the space up front with Fitim Azemi but I’d be holding off for a while to see how he settles in. At 7.0m he could genuinely be a decent cheaper option up front as Stabaek have a lot of creative, dynamic players in their squad and he could genuinely do well here.

Uche Sebastine (?, ATT) from Kanao Pillars
Nigerian forward who comes on a loan deal from Kano Pillars. That is pretty much all I know about him.

    Tromso
    IN:

Niklas Vesterlund (21, CB) from Trelleborgs
Young defender whose highest level of football is the Swedish Superettan. 37 of his 101 appearances have been in the U19 Boys League so he is incredibly inexperienced at anything near this level. I wouldn’t expect him to play much and I wouldn’t expect much from him. I am encouraged by Tromso recruiting and playing young players so perhaps he’ll be played more than I think. At 4.5m he’s hard to recommend as the spots in defence are all taken but as cover/back-up he may see a bit of game time.

Joachim Rothmann (20, FWD) from Nordsjaelland
Young Danish forward (U17 International) who, like Vesterlund, has played most his football in the U19 Boys League, scoring 14 goals in 36 games.
Genuinely quite excited about this purchase and I’m not too sure what it means for Ebiye but it almost certainly means Hafstad is simply not going to play much football this season (I would think). He’s one to look out for as he’s got a lot of potential and is rated very highly.

Felix Winther (20, CM) from Fremad Amager
U19 Denmark international who was part of the Copenhagen U19 setup for two years before moving to Fremad Amager in 2019. He’s seen his stock rise considerably since then, securing his move to Tromso just a few days ago.
I really don’t know too much about him and I’d imagine he’s very unlikely to feature too much this season and at the very least I hope it does not get in the way of August Mikkelsen’s game time as I think he has a lot to offer and could become a really decent Eliteserien player.
Winther is a wait and see for me and even still, if he does get game time I’m not necessarily expecting him to be a good Fantasy option anyway.

Simon Thomas (31, GK) Free Agent (previously at Sarpsborg 08)
31-year-old goalkeeper from Canada. Used to play for Huddersfield, Glimt, Sarpsborg – but he’s not even reached 100 career appearances. He won’t dislodge Karlstrom from the number 1 position and has been brought in as backup. You do not need to transfer Karlstrom out, I repeat, you do not need to transfer Karlstrom out.

    Best Fantasy Options:

    Khoblenko
    Rothmann
    Sane/Gerson

I’d keep an eager eye on Nordas and Sebulonsen but I think Ruud Tveter is a trap and I’ll be certain to avoid him.

This list is by no means definitive and if anyone else can add more to this breakdown that would be great!

I'm likely to be taking that hit, as otherwise I won't even be able to afford Sorli > Vecchia due to price rises and 0.2m being sucked out of my team in Sorli and Hussain.

You'll want Bjorkan vs. Brann and when Augustinsson is back, Andersson and Reitan will probably share minutes.

DGW appeals but let's say RBK defender gets 6-8pts more than Bjorkan - you only get 2-4.

On the flip side, Bjorkan is not guaranteed more than 2pts vs. RBK at home and RBK defenders have good probability of CS vs. Brann (yes I know Bamba and Taylor et al. will potentially get something but I think it's their toughest game of the season).

It's short term vs. long term isn't it?

Do you think EDR or Andersson haul this week and Bjorkan won't? Is Bjokran more than 4pts behind one of them over the next two GWs?

I'm not sure FOMO is a good enough reason to make the move but it could definitely work.

Depends what your planned moves are from next week on.

Planned moves are what got me into this situation in the first place. Had a think about Molins, but RBK fans don't think he's capable of playing two games in a week.

Might be time to calm down over DGW. They often end in disappointment.

I get that but there needs to be more method than reacting to what happens I guess.

Best laid plans often end in tears. Winging it sometimes works. Hard to work out where to draw the line!

At least if you approach the weeks with back ups in mind you can jump from idea to another.

We're only a couple of weeks in - OR means nothing at this point. I'd rather have a decent team ready to go rather than having to spend weeks or a chip early on to rectify the mess of poor team that was built with the sole purpose of getting through GW1 and 2.

Well you have to react to events unless you want to go into GWs with injured expensive players and I had to get at least one RBK for their DGW. I spent a whole summer working as a cook in Trondheim for heavens sake!

It was a choice at the start of Botheim + Zach vs. Islamovic + Saltnes/Sorli, and owners of the latter have been unlucky. My team otherwise has balance while just about scaring through GW1/GW2.

At least now we get to see what the likes of SO8, Odd, Lillestrom have to offer and no, I certainly wouldn't be wasting a chip at this stage.

Sørli + Henriksen > Vecchia + Dahl Reitan

I'm putting the captaincy on Vecchia. Long term I think Vecchia is a better pick than Zachariassen. For this GW I think Zachariassen is a bit safer. I still think Vecchia has a higher ceiling than Zachariassen by the nature of how he plays.

Henriksen's injury really screwed with my plans to fix the team. I probably would've transferred in Kairinen for Fridjonsson if it weren't for Henriksen's injury. If Fridjonsson starts on the bench, I'll play Ottesen ahead of him.

I wouldn't necessarily say that he's considered a great Fantasy asset. He's one of the box-to-box midfielders in 4-3-3 and was Lillestrøm's best player last season. He should be nailed on for penalties until Helland is fit. In a short pre-season he managed 2 goals (1 penalty) and 2 assists. Bonus points and penalties are a big part of the reason you would pick him.

I think they're very close. Vecchia on set pieces is a plus but Rosenborg have more players to rotate with him than Zachariassen, surely.

Main reason I've gone with Zach is because I think he's a better player and feel this season is going to be his 'Zinckernagel' year. I'd be very surprised if Vecchia outscored Zachariassen on his debit

There's merits for both but I think Vecchia is 0.5m too expensive personally. But again, it's a close call and I can understand the arguments for one over another.

Underlying stats would suggest so, yeah.

Just depends on rest of squad and what else you need.

Also Valerenga are so confident they've let KBK start all 20 players...

Not sure why they wouldn't want Layouni terrorising Snorre Nilsen. I'm sure Sahraoui can do a job too but surely this was a fixtures they're always winning and a great opportunity for Layouni to get a bit of confidence back.

Think it's a really poor decision to bench him unless there's other reasons. Christensen certainly doesn't deserve to start ahead of him. Looks like they want Sahraoui in that LW spot so Christensen gets the start in midfield.

Layouni hasn't been that good so far, and his fitness is also not up there yet. He's had limit minutes through pre-season.

I know he's not been that good. I did allude to that in this actual article.

My point is that KBK are woeful and are weak on that right side of defence and he could exploit that.

    Craninx
    Bjorkan, Borchgrevink, EDR, Risa
Aursnes, Bell, Zachariassen (k), Donnum (v)
    Botheim, Berisha

    Karlstrom, Hafstad, Hopmark, F. Hanssen

-4: Vevatne to EDR, Sorli to Zachariassen

Shame to feel the need for a hit this early but I'm happy enough even though RBK have Molde next week.

Can easily bring in who I want next week without too much hassle and even if things go slightly awry I'm in a position where I can adapt easily enough.

    Good luck all!

Gjertsen with the drilled cross into the middle of the box for Strand Nilsen to convert from about 6 yards out.

Really poor goal for Valerenga to give away.

Berisha yet to get into the game today. Same can be said about Ebiye.

I'm not too sure Mikkelsen us suited to a role so high up the pitch. I'd rather see him drop a bit deeper and let Kitolano roam a bit further up.

With Antonsen on the bench I'm hoping we see him come on for Ebiye in the second half - though Mikkelsen hasn't put in a refined performance he has looked lively and deserves a stab at the second half in my opinion.

Erlend Sivertsen replaces Bent Sormo at half time.

According to KBK he got a small 'bang' in the first half:

46 min: Andre omgang blåses i gang. Vi kaster utpå noen kilo med fesk & potet når Sivertsen kommer inn for Sørmo. Sistnevnte fikk seg en liten smell i førsteomgang.

And something about fish and potatoes? Any Norwegian folk in here to explain this to me? I love the sound of it haha.

Ebiye has touched the ball 11 times and played 4 passes. And he gets an assist. Seriously hah.

Some people getting lucky early on this season for sure.

What a difference a Runde makes...
    4 players in Runde 3 = 6 points
    4 players in Runde 2 = 60 points
    That’s why we love it!!!
