FPL

Which FPL players have changed position in 2021/22?

In our latest reaction to the Fantasy Premier League relaunch, we run through the six players who enter the game under a new positional bracket for the 2021/22 season.

From goal threat to expected stats, you can find official Opta data on the players listed below and much more besides in our Premium Members Area.

FPL price reveal and launch reaction from three-time top 200 finisher Lateriser 1

Stuart Dallas (Defender to Midfielder)

Stuart Dallas (£5.5m) is the standout name on this list, having been reclassified as a midfielder after his goalscoring exploits as a £4.5m defender last season.

The Northern Ireland international would have scored somewhere in the region of 120 to 130 points as a midfielder in 2020/21, with the lack of three extra clean sheet points the obvious big subtraction from his mammoth score of 171.

Team-mates Jack Harrison (£6.0m) and Raphinha (£6.5m) earned 160 and 133 points respectively over the previous campaign. The ever-present Dallas played 600 minutes more than Harrison and over 1,000 more than Raphinha but while Dallas’ durability is a favourable factor, both of his team-mates have the potential to outscore him over the season given enough pitch time.

With Gjanni Alioski now gone from Elland Road, there seemed to be the chance of Dallas beginning the season at left-back – but the capture of Junior Firpo (£5.0m) from Barcelona seems to have lessened the likelihood of that scenario developing.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Midfielder to Forward)

Had Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (£10.0m) been classed as a forward last season, it would have made a miserable Fantasy campaign even worse. The Arsenal striker, labelled a midfielder last term, would have seen at least 20 points shaved off his 131 total.

Aubameyang, at least, starts at £2.0m less than his £12.0m price tag last time around. He could, however, just as easily be used from a left-forward role by Mikel Arteta rather than as a central striker.

With games against Chelsea (H) and Man City (a) in Gameweeks 2 and 3, the Arsenal forward will struggle for suitors. That period will allow FPL managers to gauge the Gunners and Aubameyang, ahead of a Gameweek 4 home tie against Norwich City.

Allan Saint-Maximin (Midfielder to Forward)

Spot the Differential

The appeal of mercurial Magpie Allan Saint-Maximin (£6.5m) has been lessened after time spent as a second striker saw the attacker reclassified as a forward in FPL.

That leaves the Frenchman just £1.0m cheaper than his penalty-taking colleague Callum Wilson (£7.5m). The latter also managed 500 more minutes than the somewhat injury-prone Saint-Maximin (1,554), who scored only three goals in 2020/21.

Matt Ritchie (Midfielder to Defender)

Saint-Maximin’s team-mate Matt Ritchie (£5.0m) is on the opposite end of the scale, having moved from midfielder to defender.

The Scotsman came back into favour under Steve Bruce well into the second half of last season, nailing down a spot at left wing-back.

Only four midfielders delivered more crosses than Ritchie (57) from Gameweek 30. In that period, three of the 12 opportunities that the Newcastle man created were deemed big chances.

Considering the glut of budget defender options this season, Ritchie may struggle for attention but he is definitely worthy of a watchlist posting.

Cheikhou Kouyaté (Midfielder to Defender)

Considering the state of flux that the Crystal Palace squad is in, Cheikhou Kouyaté‘s (£4.5m) starting position under new manager Patrick Vieira is unclear.

But he does come in as a defender in FPL, potentially offering an out-of-position prospect. However, Kouyaté’s attacking threat has always been limited even from a midfield role.

With a difficult opening schedule and a level of uncertainty surrounding the set-up, Crystal Palace assets in general may be ones to revisit later in the season.

Ainsley Maitland-Niles (Defender to Midfielder)

The best Arsenal players to consider for a Blank Gameweek 18 Free Hit squad

After a successful loan spell as part of the West Brom midfield, Arsenal’s Ainsley Maitland-Niles (£5.5m) has duly been classed as a midfielder.

He tallied two assists during half a season at the Hawthorns, while failing to get on the scoresheet. Even if Maitland-Niles does break into the Arsenal first team, he doesn’t currently display the attacking threat to rival an option such as Dallas at the same price point.

Even if so, you can benefit from his clean sheets by getting Targett for 0.5 cheaper and have a cheaper keeper who ends up better value.

"At the prices we are not going to buy any strikers. It is impossible, we cannot afford it"

Pep Guardiola says Manchester City are being priced out of signing a replacement striker for Sergio Aguero this summer.

    Sounds like no Kane then!

Maybe but it's the truth. They won't get a world class striker for anything less than £100 mil and City haven't spent like that on one player under Pep. And tbh he can win the league without strikers.

I don't think Spurs will sell Kane for anything less than £100 mil. I think even that's less. Levy must be expecting 125-150.

Vills going hard for ESR after bagging Buendia suggests to me Jack is on his way to City. They won't have the funds for a 100M+ striker on top of his fee, but 25M for Ings is doable.

The absurdity of this and thinking City desperately need a striker. They already have a top striker in Jesus and another top attacker in Torres that can play as one. Aguero barely kicked a ball last year and they did just fine he doesn't need replacing.

The most underpriced player has to be Raphinha. A lot of players are very reasonably priced making it easy to assemble a nice-looking draft. You'll soon see how similar yours looks to all the others!

            Is this template then?

            Schmeichel 4.0
            TAA Coufal Dunk Ayling 4.5
            Mo KdB Grealish Barnes Cantwell
            Nacho Wilson 4.5

Cantwell despite fixtures naturally - history there going that way with Norwich - looks a bargain at 5.5.

              2 years, 9 months ago

It's not actually. Schmeichel has low take-up here. Most spend 4.5 on a Brighton defender. Almost no one is taking KDB at the expense of Bruno and almost everyone is going with 3 strikers in the 8m-6.5m bracket. Yours makes a refreshing change!

              The (ownership) template is

              Martinez
              Shaw, Fofana, TAA
              Bruno, Salah, Grealish, Raph
              Toney, Watkins, DCL
              (4.0, 4.5, 4.0, 4.5)

But that works out at 1.0 so replace Martinez with Sanchez and you’re at 100.0

                Hi Max

Interesting. Martinez doesn't tempt me much at 5.5 and curious to see no Nacho. Rather forgot about Watkins. Switched him in immediately.

What's your take on Greenwood? Does Sancho make him less ,likely. He looks genius value if he's a regular. I'm assuming Rash will be out for a while with an op.

general template here I'd say is:

                  Sanchez - 4.0
                  TAA - Shaw/Digne/Coufal - 2 from Forfana/Lamptey/Coufal - 4.0
                  Salah - Bruno - Raph - 6.0 - 4.5
                  3 from Antonio/Toney/Watkins/DCL/Nacho

Much prefer Barnes to Raph - certainly on last season the 0.5 is well worth it but most of that adds up. Though looked at in the round it's mighty curious that both City and Chelsea are absent from defence.

Hiya pingi - No idea on Greenwood tbh (other than him being a world class prospect) but Utd now have Rashford, Martial, Greenwood, Sancho and Cavani (plus all the benchies - James, Diallo, Mata etc) and only 3 of them can start each week so I wouldn’t be jumping in with two feet on any of them without seeing how things shake out first

Ole himself probably hasn’t even got a clue who will start from one week to the next or whether form or opponent will dictate different approaches etc

I do think though that in terms of Man Utd’s attack - Sancho’s signing, Cavani being settled, Rashford getting the shoulder fixed, Martial back fit and Greenwood being a year older - we’re looking at a *very* high likelihood of them as a team scoring at least 5-10 goals more than last year, possibly even more if Sancho really brings his A-game early doors

And with Bruno starting every game and hoovering up goal involvements behind the front 3 I think he’s looking good for another productive season & will be captainable in any fixture with his penalty duties

                    Yep

There looks to be goals aplenty there but a bit of a FPL minefield beyond Bruno as you say.

You missed Pogba out of your list! Watching him at the Euros he looks a different animal and if OGS could harness that talent by allowing him a freer rein in a more forward role then it could get really exciting for United.

Deliberately didn't mention that Pogba clown!

Hate him so much and wish utd would just sell him, the team, squad, and dressing room would be sooooo much better without him

They have plenty of (younger, and homegrown) players who are as effective as him going forward and if he plays in Central midfield you need two other midfielders to do dirty work for him/ clean up after his laziness, plus Bruno is a much better attacking midfielder for utd

Sick of saying "but his ability is second to none" - he only turns up when he feels like it, and is so prone to lapses in concentration its ridiculous

Get angry even thinking about him lol

Given the generous pricing of the defenders, I prefer a 4th premium defender in a 4-3-3 than a 6m mid.

e.g. I expect the likes of Chilwell, Dias, Cresswell, Digne, Shaw, etc will outscore most of the mids in that price bracket.

If Kane signs for City I’m thinking a back 4 becomes very attractive

As you can fit in TAA, Kane, Salah, Bruno much easier than playing 3 at the back

I am considering 4/5 hybrid even without Kane. Cheapish midfield options are basically Buendia, Sarr and Raphinha. I am not certain that they will outscore defenders with similar extra money spent. Yet flexibility may be an issue if there is too much money in defenders.

I would add Trossard, Benrahma and Harrison to that list, but I understand the point. Backline of TAA, Shaw, Digne/Stones and good 4.5 defender looks solid.

      No Leicester?

City in week 4 is poor of course but a number of decent ones in the first stretch. They were really very good last season until the run in and ditto season before. Barnes is a high priority for me at that price. Interesting call on Harrison - defo an eye for goal there.

Ayling could become Fofana, and considering attacking options the only one that interests me is Ihenacho, but Daka arrived, so the situation is not clear. Some will say Ihenacho wasn't nailed anyway because of Barnes, but I don't believe there would be change of effective 3-5-2 system just to accommodate Barnes straight back into the team. Three strikers fighting for two spots is more worrying for Ihenacho imo. Also, first five fixtures, besides Norwich are not that great, imo.

Preseason will be fascinating there.Real riches in attacking areas but you're right they need to find the system that works.

Barnes was absolutely electric before he got crocked. Vardy I imagine is the player most under threat from Daka.

I don't say it is not a template team, it's roughly 75% template. Maybe even 80%. But it's difficult to ignore Brighton defenders at 4.5, Shaw at 5.5, Watkins with opening fixtures, Antonio etc.

        And some 50-50 could go horribly wrong: Digne-Shaw, DCL-Bamford, Harrison-Raphinha, Watkins and Antonio - Toney/Wilson/Ihenacho, Jota- Grealish/Foden.

If you have Salak , KDB , Fernades and Kate, you can have 3 x 4.5 def and Goalkeeper , 4.0 subs but your 3 remaining playing mids and fwd have only 16 million to spend

There's no room for any movement or transfers throughout the season what so ever, after selecting four premiums. Aside from transferring one 4.5 for another. Personally it would take the fun out of FPL for me doing this.

So much value in the mid price bracket in all positions. Maybe I am spreading the funds too much here or too much in defence ?

    Sanchez
    Taa, Vvd, Digne
    Salah, Pepe, Barnes, Buendia
    Dcl, Antonio, Watkins

    Steele, Cresswell, Shaw, Gilmour

No. Just downgrade your bench to upgrade the starting 11.

I’m happy with the starting XI though. I won’t be changing the strikers. I won’t be changing the back 3. I won’t be changing Salah or Barnes. Rest is up for debate.

Issue I have with this is that it will take 2-3 transfers to get in a premium i.e. Kane/Bruno/Kdb when necessary.

I think so. Personally I would downgrade two of the mid price defs/mids/fwds to fund Bruno. Any reason you are thinking of going without?

      1. Paqueta Rice
        • 3 Years
        2 years, 9 months ago

Bruno is obviously a great pick as is Kdb. No particular reason for going without other than that he looked knackered near the tail end of last season and was poor at the Euros. Happy to put him in again he was in most of the early drafts. I might go with Rashford(if he doesn’t have surgery) or Sancho instead

Fair enough. Just not a fan of having that much money on my bench, but the team looks good so was being nitpicky really 🙂

Ah sure, in reality it will chop and change a whole lot before the season begins! Thanks. I am starting to think Brunoless in an unnecessary risk to begin with just to have the funds spread on the bench…

Yep too spread out. You’ll need multiple transfers to bring in either an expensive mid or forward should they start firing.

      Steele, Lamptey, Gilmour, fodder

Sabitzer & Aouar are available for only €20-25m. They fit the profile and walk into our midfield immediately. Both will probably be sold soon because we're apparently focussing on Bissouma & Maddison. Arsenal move slower than a snail when it comes to a good opportunity.
I bloody hope that they have clear transfer plan, talks with targets behind the scenes and more money to spend than we know.

45m on Partey, 40m on Xhaka, 25m on Torreira, Elneny still there, Guendouzi and Willock out on loans, ESR there… even going back to spending 30m on Mkhi…

Arsenal definitely need another couple of big money central midfielders on their wage bill

Brighton have broken their transfer record, paying in excess of £20 million for Red Bull Salzburg midfielder Enock Mwepu

He has played CM, DM, AM, LM, RM, RB and CB in his career.

    Alright everyone need big help.

I’ve lost my account, one day I could login the next I couldn’t. The email doesn’t even work so I can’t reset the password.

The team is named ‘restored’ after I deleted my account but then deactivated.

I have 4 years previous of rank history.

Is there any fancy tool that can locate me based off of team name and actual user name (Daniel Nash)

    Cheers everyone.

"The email doesn’t even work" Pretty sure you can access the email ID even if you dont remember the password. Email ID wont get deactivated.

Unless you have joined FFS H2H league, its tough to locate team with owner name.
